  • Tops Knives Silent Hero
The Silent Hero was designed by Anton Du Plessis, who at the time of the design was the Chief of Operations for the Specialized Interdiction Unit of the Silent Heroes Foundation. His task was to combat the poaching crisis in South Africa. This knife had to be durable, versatile, and able to fill Anton's needs in the field, which affected the design of the blade and the handle. It will definitely hold up to hard use. And with a weight of only 12 oz, you'll be able to use the knife without getting fatigued too quickly.
There is a lanyard hole in the handle along with another in the finger guard. This is meant to allow the user to add a safety cord in order to improve the grip on the handle, which already allows for a solid grip. The finger-guard hole can also be used to assist in lashing to a spear when the situation warrants it.
There is a finger choil up into the blade to give you the ability to choke up and execute precise, fine cuts. The drop point design makes this knife great for slicing and gives the tip extra strength. So this knife will be a great knife for bushcraft, survival, and tactical purposes.
The black leather sheath is durable and looks great paired with this knife. The Silent Hero is held in place with a single snap loop that curls around the finger guard.
The Silent Hero is a great design and a very versatile blade. It is large enough that it can be used to chop but is also still small enough to complete most of the tasks you can do or want to do with a smaller knife.

I have had my Silent Hero since 2014 & it has served me well in the African bush. Even though I live by the coast, I have not had a rust problem, but upgrading to a Kydex sheath is a must.

One of their best models i reckon if not the best one IMHO.

Yeah I agree. They have a few more that are usable. Like the trail seeker, silent hero 4, HOG4.5. But yeah I agree with you I don’t like all Tops models. They border the ridiculous.

Yeah I think this one worked because it was actually designed by someone who really was in the field and knew what works and what doesn't.@@LegionTacticoolCutlery

I did a review of the Tops Silent Hero years ago and still love the knife. It and the SH4 are my favorite Tops knives

Bartenders keep or comet works great for rusty blades

I've always wanted one of these ever since they came out with it. I saw mixed reviews that said the handle sat too high and wasn't centered relative to the blade. It looked to perform pretty good in your review. Maybe I'll get one.

@@LegionTacticoolCutlery my Tahoma field knife had the same rust issue. It came rust free, but before I coated in fluid film, where I touched the knife, it formed small spots of rust. It discovered the finish in those spots of rust and I just lubed it up thoroughly.

My man I had mine wrapped in saran wrap in WD40. I was pissed but does not affect performance.

That sheath needs to be sealed that’s why it bleeds, coat it in melted bees wax. It will water proof it too.

I carry a coldsteel srkC and a vaquero xl, utica utk-n2. Ive got all my bases covered.
I really like that silent hero design im just not spending anymore on tops. They are extremely overpriced an they always need work. Plus im lefthanded so that's even more for a sheath.
It blows me away a $30 knife from china comes with a reverseable kydex sheath. Yet name brand companies all have junk.
My next blade im making out of 8670. I want a indestructible beast.

I cant agree with you more! I tested a ton of Chinese knives and they are at the same level or even better than American made knives…. It’s just a fact! And the prices are realistic where American knife makers are just going nuts with pricing.

If so, I was wondering which you prefer.

3 in 1 oil fix that right up and really prevent the rust from coming back also frog lube works real good you got to heat up the blade with a hair dryer or heat gun and let the frog lube soak into the blade and then cool down and wipe it off the frog lube will penetrate the pores really good and keep the rust away that's what I use on my knives and my pistols
