Balisong is a town in the province of Batangas, about 100 kilometers south of Manila, the Philippines' capital city. While still living in the Philippines, I had two balisong knives custom made there sometime in 1980 for the equivalent of about $8 each at that time. Most Filipinos carry one for self defense.
Shit...only the chosen ones can do such an opening...people don't know it..but there is a fourth rank in the balisong trick..it's called "God"...and this man is one of the chosen ones..
Fun fact: The Russian in 1:14 actually got stabbed. What happened was the prop guy forgot to switch out the knife with the prop. He didn’t even flinch!
Fun fact thomas hane actually stabbed the Russian because the props guy was flirting with a girl and forgot to switch out the butterfly knife with a retractable one, but the guy had been a wrestler before so he he was used to being hurt and staying in character, the kept the scene he only asked for super glue so he could finish the fight sequence
Im so freaking pissed that they say balisong knife/butterfly knife was invented in France total noodleheads Is balisong even a French word? Filipinos first invented this thing from the early 1900s
Doing tricks aren't necessary during a hostile situation. Most people would use the simplest or fastest opening because of the incoming danger and adrenaline rush to do everything quickly.
There def is double sided ones, there's also ones where the latch is on the bite side so unless you knew youd slash yourself on most openers lol. I have a few
I mean to be fair it took me a day or two to learn the double rollout efficiently, but with some of these movies budgets they should hire someone to teach them the correct way to flip. I mean once you got the basics if you actually commit to practice they could probably be doing helixs in a month or even maybe 2 weeks
I love the slow open in the Falling Down scene. It’s super hard to do!! I’m disappointed that its portrayed as a fail in this. That scene is the first thing I think about when I think of Balisongs in movies!
and these movies are why balisongs are illegal in most places. they were pictured as dangerous killing tools. in reality, they are impractical for self defense.
Watching this as a young Asian man made me realized how poorly Hollywood portrayed Asian men back then. Portraying us as weak in some scenes and abusive or evil in others. I’m glad things are changing now. Although it’s different for sure in how they portrayed us but still overall more negative than positive.
Everytime I see a balisong in a movie, I cringe. As a flipper, there overly exaggerated. The sounds are cancer. Example at 3:40, all she is doing is swinging it around without doing anything.
I like how they gave the one character in The Outsiders a Balisong instead of them all just having black stiletto switch blades. It makes the characters a little more unique and makes them feel like individual people and not just caricatures of greasers.
I'm 31 now. I can't believe I used to carry one in my bag when I was in highschool cause I didn't want the "tough guys" or any bullies to belittle me. But I haven't owned one since I lost it but I've learned a lot of flipping just naturally cause I used to play a lot with it at home, even now I can imagine the knife in my hand and how it moves exactly when I flip it. I think I'm going to buy one for myself since I'm an adult now. It's not a Filipino thing but I only got that balisong from one of my classmates, it still got me thinking what was I doing in highschool lol
The first opening from Big Trouble in Little China is the best opening in film history. The stuntman, Jeff Imada, literally wrote the book on balisong openings.
In one of the scenes in the punisher where the fight is going on, they actually got stabbed by a real knife since they forgot to swap it out with the fake one, but the actor was too excited and didn’t notice the bleeding
Thanks, when i heard the balisong was from the Philippines i knew it must have been shown a lot in movies, its so familiar. All young kids know this knife for its coolness in the 80s.
Definitely cool; it's like one of life's essential skills - know how to drive a gear car, know how to keep it up for more than 30 seconds, know how to flip a balisong knife. I'm working on it, I'll get back to you once I've had the stitches inserted. It might be an idea to use one of those blunt trainer things, still, you learn fast, using the real thing.

While still living in the Philippines, I had two balisong knives custom made there sometime in 1980 for the equivalent of about $8 each at that time.
Most Filipinos carry one for self defense.
4:04 I LOVE THE OUTSIDERS

Me to great book and great movie
Btw fortnite is trash
We are barely in chapter 4 and we’re going to watch the movie in the last week of school, I think this scene is in chapter 3 if I’m correct
Yes finally a comment that had the name I read the book and seen part of the movie in school but I forgot the name
4:04 i like how twobit broke a bottel on a chainlink fence
Fictional ! Especially with that little of force
Hehehe
He's so tough he could break sugar glass without any force 😂😂
what was the original book called again?

Whenever I make a movie/video, and include balisongs in them, they won't be cringingly over exaggerated in opening moves, sounds, etc...
CaptainAmericYang Hey i know you! :D Your a really good flipper m8
CaptainAmericYang omg I had no idea you commented on my vid lel
CaptainAmericYang Hi dad!
CaptainAmericYang oh hey, didn't expect to see you here
I would sure hope not, being that you are a very good flipper.

If Big Flips or 50 Blades of Gray were one of these actors, it would be infinitely awesomer

That's how normies do it

Matess 36 I asked for a trainer butterfly for Christmas
What's the title of the movie ?
I love how everyone just does basic opening and quick draw and it makes them 'the real deal'
Fun fact: The Russian in 1:14 actually got stabbed. What happened was the prop guy forgot to switch out the knife with the prop. He didn’t even flinch!
Bro, really? God damn
6:07 that fuckin handle play
LOL
Im so freaking pissed that they say balisong knife/butterfly knife was invented in France total noodleheads
Is balisong even a French word? Filipinos first invented this thing from the early 1900s
Ryoichi Toshihiro the French always try to take credit
At least Kick Ass got it right.
balisong has been around earlier than 1900's
good thing nicholas cage and his daughter knew well
How tf balisong is even a french word. ? Stupid peepz.
Can no-one do anything more complicated than a double rollout? I mean seriously?!
Doing tricks aren't necessary during a hostile situation. Most people would use the simplest or fastest opening because of the incoming danger and adrenaline rush to do everything quickly.
I mean they're actors and most probably can't be bothered to spend hours on a hobby that they give zero shits about so I can sorta empathize
@@_Aldi1337 why not a quick draw then? Most of these movies are trying to make the double rollout look fancy and intimidating, not speed.
@@lordpotashmallow2443 quick draw is way harder than a double rollout so in a scenario when you can't think obviously you'd do what's easiest
@@Eeeeerisssss wdym harder than a double rollout, QuickDraw is just release the other handle and flick it up, so simple.

Yup, me too
Fazbears Figures me too
edit: we just read it in class and watched the movie a week ago
I was wondering if they had Kickass, and The Outsiders was my second thought
Yaassssss
5:52 what is this a double edged balisong what how do you do tricks with that
Everyone said my name was stupid so I changed it.
Look up the Rising Sun.
It either looks double sided but really isn’t or its just not supposed to be flipped like a regular one.
Dro Tenks but how do you know which side is which?
There def is double sided ones, there's also ones where the latch is on the bite side so unless you knew youd slash yourself on most openers lol. I have a few
A quick draw is the only thing you can do with a D-eged Bali
I mean to be fair it took me a day or two to learn the double rollout efficiently, but with some of these movies budgets they should hire someone to teach them the correct way to flip. I mean once you got the basics if you actually commit to practice they could probably be doing helixs in a month or even maybe 2 weeks
I learned the 8 ball within a month and then the helix like a week later because catching it was basically the same principle
You don’t even need a teacher to flip, just pop up youtube tutorials
They don't got that time, though. Most of these people don't care about the hobby, so it would be a waste of time
7:42 well those are certainly some interesting sounds
I love the slow open in the Falling Down scene. It’s super hard to do!! I’m disappointed that its portrayed as a fail in this. That scene is the first thing I think about when I think of Balisongs in movies!
Buddy it's the first trick you learn in that scene
4:05 The Outsiders❤
0:39 ctf in TF2
Lmfao i love this comment
Jesus, that first clip sounded like it was going to fall apart on its own.
and these movies are why balisongs are illegal in most places. they were pictured as dangerous killing tools. in reality, they are impractical for self defense.
6:34 omg that flip was E P I C

@@Kabal_speed the punisher
thumbs up to this guy for actually putting quality movies from the 80's and not the shitty modern ones
Some of them just sounds like they’re just shaking a bag of metal chains
4:06
Randy lost with that stutter
I love how they do really exaggerated sound effects when they actually just sound like, "Click click click"
Watching this as a young Asian man made me realized how poorly Hollywood portrayed Asian men back then. Portraying us as weak in some scenes and abusive or evil in others. I’m glad things are changing now. Although it’s different for sure in how they portrayed us but still overall more negative than positive.
00:49 was actually dope not a fail imo
I love how they always swinging around in like a figure 8 motion like anybody who really does this does not do that
Everytime I see a balisong in a movie, I cringe. As a flipper, there overly exaggerated. The sounds are cancer. Example at 3:40, all she is doing is swinging it around without doing anything.
Just started and yeah they look basic exept for the 2:44. Do you know what she does?
Jiraiya Sennin It’s a mix of double rollouts and transfer loops. Yeah she actually does something.
Kipknock10 did she click the lever on the bottom by applying pressure to it ?
you don’t deserve to have Papu Frank as ur profile pic
i don't really mind i just cool to see them in movies. but it just looks like a load of double rollouts :/
6:54 The most difficult opening move of all time
It takes so long to learn that
Ikr, I keep on trying but I just can't get the hang of it, I keep slipping up, does anyone have some tips
1:11 Where's Waldow's dad?
the sound of a balisong flipping in Hollywood movies are now the loudest noise at 185 decibels
Did you get one?
The Blood in a blood out scene has to be one of my all time favorites lol...”You wanna see how it feels to get stuck puto? Come on get up!”

I like how they do openings and closing all “cool like” when they are some of the easiest tricks to learn
The first opening from Big Trouble in Little China is the best opening in film history. The stuntman, Jeff Imada, literally wrote the book on balisong openings.
They are all the benchmade 42....
Crafty Fruit are they? wow fucking give it to me they do weak shit with it

@@kovid5274 no they're real knives but they're not real Benchmade 42 like they claim in the movie.
@@honestdave its a real one in some clips but when she flips it hard its a fake one clearly
In one of the scenes in the punisher where the fight is going on, they actually got stabbed by a real knife since they forgot to swap it out with the fake one, but the actor was too excited and didn’t notice the bleeding
0:29 that was badass
Thanks, when i heard the balisong was from the Philippines i knew it must have been shown a lot in movies, its so familiar. All young kids know this knife for its coolness in the 80s.
Im filipino who has kali experiences and it is true that the origin of the balisong knife tricks came here, my grandfather and i both own one.

The best move I've seen here is with that girl doing underhand transfer and basic opening/closing over and over.
