Ruby is the smaller, simple, more honest soul and i believe the sending her to the same pitiful demise is more of reference to the huntsman and guardians failing rather than killing Summer.

Summer Rose was a Silver Eyed Warrior and Qrow said that was a rare trait. I think the they were the guardians Salem mentioned and Summer was just her most recent casualty and the simple honest soul is definitely Ruby. The Four Maidens don't really strike me as the total warrior type although Amber and Cinder did show tremendous skill the SEW were meant to live and follow the path of fighters. So does this mean we'll find more SEW and have them join forces with the remaining maidens and stop Salem?

Her character reveal was awesome. She was genuinely scary. And Vol. 4 Episode 1, that creepy music when she slowly walked into the room was amazing. I do like Salem's character and I want to know so much more about her.

MY OWN ANALYSIS: Volume 1's narration is something from the past. Perhaps this is a court hearing for the death of Summer Rose? A little battle that happened long ago? Anything can spark this conversation. It's more probable that this all happened long ago, in the past. Now, the narration at Volume 3 is in the present. Salem recalls the conversation in the past and says to herself "A smaller, more honest soul..." This is perfectly normal for anyone to do when thinking over the past. Afterwards, with all the chaos happening in remnant and her plans coming to fruition, she says "I can't wait to watch you burn." *Queue Yang* ♫ I BUUURN! Caaaan't hooooold me now, you got nothing that can stop me. I buuuurn! Swiiiing aaaaall yoooou waaaaant. Like a fever I will take you down! ♫ *Cough* *cough* Sorry. I had to do it. It was just Yangtastic.

The one problem with hope is Salem, is that the harder you try to snuff it out the Brighter it burns so send your monsters bring your darkness to cover Remnant and try and snuf out this honest soul the is the last ember of Hope in this dangerous deadly world but all you'll do is stoke the flames of your own destruction because hope never truly dies it is mearly passed on from one to another so we'll just see who's burning in the end witch!
I like to imagine that Ozpin finding a new body isnt instant. It takes time. In this time he sort of floats around as a spirit and takes the time to check on salem. He isnt able to do anything and neither is she, but they take the time to hold small conversations and that is what’s happening here.
salems reveal, her slow transition from a very familiar narrator to straight up villain was a masterstroke, showcasing someone bigger than cinder, and to top it all off, a 'human' grimm that moment, that showcase, and the absolute escalation of stakes it represented, was the final nail in the understanding that shit had gotten REAL.
True. They also left Remnant according to the story. I sorta think those brothers are a reference to the Grimm brothers, the writers of the original versions of almost every popular fairy tale we know today! I actually really like believing that because it's so subtle yet seems very logical^^ :)
I forgot what video it was from but someone said that in the old times when there were powerful figures in mythology, they would always make them male even if they were female. It sounds weird but where I got it from it made much more sense.

After all these years, I don't think I've ever truly nailed in my head that that was Ozpin in the middle of the speech. Maybe just a quick thought, but I never looked into it or confirmed. Part of me thought it could've been Roman lmao 😅. But seeing for the first time how closely tied and continuous the two speeches are back-to-back (beyond just being made by Jen Taylor) is utterly insane attention-to-detail 😱. The team really knew what they were doing back during the golden age of this show 🙏🏿.
Some say that Ozpin was the Wizard of the Fable of the Four Seasons, and considering Salem's intent on the Four Maidens, it's considered that she was once one as well, most likely the Winter Maiden.
Well "Ozpin" the entity (we'll see how that works more, I assume) is clearly immortal. So, he could easily be said wizard. There's also the fact that his name is Ozpin. Like every other RWBY character, he's based on a fantasy character. In this case, the Wizard of Oz. So, him being a wizard fits perfectly. As for Salem, the obvious implication in her name is that she is a Witch. Wicked Witch of the West perhaps? I don't know enough of Oz lore to know if that gives her some relation to Ozpin. I'd also like to point out that there are 4 seasons as well as 4 Witches.
Came back here after the current episodes finally having revealed Salem's past, and I'm actually very intrigued by her saying here that "man was born from dust" especially considering the God of Darkness destroyed ALL of humanity, meaning the humans we see today, their ancestors did spawn somehow, but how? Apparently they did not appear from the fountain of life, but instead just from "dust". Whether this means the magic dust or something else remains to be seen, but it has me very confused at the least that how humanity came back from literally being wiped out was completely cut out of the explanation.
My current theory is that Dust is lunar debris, suffused with the God of Darkness's power when he left, and the God of Light used some of it to create the new humanity. Course, I'm super behind, but whatevs.
I have a theory that when Salem said something like “when you turn to ur smaller soul you send her to the same pitiful demise” meant that Ozpin sent Summer Rose to try to kill Salem and she failed and that Ozpin might try to send Ruby to kill her when they're desperate or at least she thinks that. When I first watched the series, I thought that the female narrator was Summer Rose, bitter from beyond the grave, right up until said narrator said "to snuff it out." Then I was scrambling on who she could be (Neo was the only other one who felt likely) until we saw Salem.
I understand people's theory about Summer being Salem but literally the only evidence is when the camera pans from her grave to Salem and that's circumstantial at best. It was also confirmed that Summer is dead and Miles & Luna said that they're never gonna lie about something that will happen in the show, they'll just doge the question
Well from my past experiences with shows, the creator or creators in this case, they will always "confirm" stuff so that way if you have any theories on stuff that they already confirmed will or will not happen, can't happen. That way they'll end up surprising you to make it that more exciting. I don't know if it's that way with this show though.
Despite the fact I'm not a big fan of the second half of RWBY volume 3 and the rest of the volumes forward, Salem is my all-time favorite villain in the entire series because of how scary, sadistic and menacing she is along with a tragic backstory.

+Hunt Volume 1-3 were in the present, but they were meant to be set up for the ACTUAL story of RWBY, which is the cast's efforts to stop the plotting of CInder and the unbeknownst to most of them Salem... Volume 1-3 was basicly the first book in a series, which just set the tone for the rest... It's all the present, but the actual conflict and story begins from here on out.
I believe he asked the question in the first place because of the fact that she seems to be responding to a conversation they seemingly had months ago. And, if you compound on that the fact that as of the end of Season 3 (as established in Season 4), Salem is of the belief that Ozpin is dead, there's no reason to be talking to him at all, this whole conversation makes little sense. So, I think the entirety of the conversation actually takes place when we first hear it at the beginning of the show, but we don't get the full conversation for dramatic effect until the end of Volume 3. Yes, it SOUNDS like she's talking as if her plan has already succeeded in the second half of the conversation, but that's not necessarily the case. She could just be assuming that her plan will go off without a hitch. "This is merely the first move," is really the only descriptor, and it is not necessarily referring to a plan that has already happened. Everything else is equally vague. I'm interested to see if we actually get more of this conversation at some point. It would be cool if Ozpin had some retort to this that will become relevant in some Volume Finale.
With the first three volumes being bookended by Salem’s narration, I bet, as a counter, the third-to-last volume will begin with a narration by one of the heroes (my bets are on Ruby or Ozpin), and end with the second half of the narration.

Salem, YOU were the one who rose up against the gods and thus the Dark God killed all of humanity and made them have to evolve all over again. You and Oz are the only ones that were alive back then (and even Ozma was dead at that particular moment) who are still alive today. I wouldn't call that easily forgetting. "But even the most brilliant lights flicker and die" Like Ozma, you know, the husband whose death you should have accepted. "There will be no victory in strength" well you certainly learned that one, didn't you? Also, a large amount of Salem's V3 speech about "how does it feel?" is more poignant now that we know her rebellion against the gods and how that turned out.

MY OWN ANALYSIS:
Volume 1's narration is something from the past. Perhaps this is a court hearing for the death of Summer Rose? A little battle that happened long ago? Anything can spark this conversation. It's more probable that this all happened long ago, in the past. Now, the narration at Volume 3 is in the present. Salem recalls the conversation in the past and says to herself "A smaller, more honest soul..." This is perfectly normal for anyone to do when thinking over the past. Afterwards, with all the chaos happening in remnant and her plans coming to fruition, she says "I can't wait to watch you burn."

Volume 6 Episode 3 brought me back here
I like to imagine that Ozpin finding a new body isnt instant. It takes time. In this time he sort of floats around as a spirit and takes the time to check on salem. He isnt able to do anything and neither is she, but they take the time to hold small conversations and that is what’s happening here.
salems reveal, her slow transition from a very familiar narrator to straight up villain was a masterstroke, showcasing someone bigger than cinder, and to top it all off, a 'human' grimm
that moment, that showcase, and the absolute escalation of stakes it represented, was the final nail in the understanding that shit had gotten REAL.
Hearing this after watching volume 6. Episode 3 it all makes sense

After all these years, I don't think I've ever truly nailed in my head that that was Ozpin in the middle of the speech. Maybe just a quick thought, but I never looked into it or confirmed. Part of me thought it could've been Roman lmao 😅. But seeing for the first time how closely tied and continuous the two speeches are back-to-back (beyond just being made by Jen Taylor) is utterly insane attention-to-detail 😱. The team really knew what they were doing back during the golden age of this show 🙏🏿.

Some say that Ozpin was the Wizard of the Fable of the Four Seasons, and considering Salem's intent on the Four Maidens, it's considered that she was once one as well, most likely the Winter Maiden.

Well "Ozpin" the entity (we'll see how that works more, I assume) is clearly immortal. So, he could easily be said wizard. There's also the fact that his name is Ozpin. Like every other RWBY character, he's based on a fantasy character. In this case, the Wizard of Oz. So, him being a wizard fits perfectly.
As for Salem, the obvious implication in her name is that she is a Witch. Wicked Witch of the West perhaps? I don't know enough of Oz lore to know if that gives her some relation to Ozpin.
I'd also like to point out that there are 4 seasons as well as 4 Witches.

I think this is the first series I've ever seen where the narrator turns out to be a villain.

Came back here after the current episodes finally having revealed Salem's past, and I'm actually very intrigued by her saying here that "man was born from dust"
especially considering the God of Darkness destroyed ALL of humanity, meaning the humans we see today, their ancestors did spawn somehow, but how?
Apparently they did not appear from the fountain of life, but instead just from "dust".
Whether this means the magic dust or something else remains to be seen, but it has me very confused at the least that how humanity came back from literally being wiped out was completely cut out of the explanation.
My current theory is that Dust is lunar debris, suffused with the God of Darkness's power when he left, and the God of Light used some of it to create the new humanity. Course, I'm super behind, but whatevs.

I have a theory that when Salem said something like “when you turn to ur smaller soul you send her to the same pitiful demise” meant that Ozpin sent Summer Rose to try to kill Salem and she failed and that Ozpin might try to send Ruby to kill her when they're desperate or at least she thinks that. Idk just a theory.

When I first watched the series, I thought that the female narrator was Summer Rose, bitter from beyond the grave, right up until said narrator said "to snuff it out." Then I was scrambling on who she could be (Neo was the only other one who felt likely) until we saw Salem.

I understand people's theory about Summer being Salem but literally the only evidence is when the camera pans from her grave to Salem and that's circumstantial at best. It was also confirmed that Summer is dead and Miles & Luna said that they're never gonna lie about something that will happen in the show, they'll just doge the question
Well from my past experiences with shows, the creator or creators in this case, they will always "confirm" stuff so that way if you have any theories on stuff that they already confirmed will or will not happen, can't happen. That way they'll end up surprising you to make it that more exciting. I don't know if it's that way with this show though.

Despite the fact I'm not a big fan of the second half of RWBY volume 3 and the rest of the volumes forward, Salem is my all-time favorite villain in the entire series because of how scary, sadistic and menacing she is along with a tragic backstory.
OHHHHH OZPIN AND SALEM CAN SPEAK TO ONE ANOTHER? It seemed like they were speaking but OZPIN wasn't coming through as much so can they speak to one another like in dreams or something? And when she says your second soul is she talking about Ruby?

So was Vol. 1-3 a storytelling from Ozpin from his perspective and Vol.4 is were the present is while Vol. 1-3 is in the past? I am so confused.

It's generally assumed that volumes 1 through 3 are flashbacks, and we are just now catching up to the present.
+Hunt Volume 1-3 were in the present, but they were meant to be set up for the ACTUAL story of RWBY, which is the cast's efforts to stop the plotting of CInder and the unbeknownst to most of them Salem... Volume 1-3 was basicly the first book in a series, which just set the tone for the rest... It's all the present, but the actual conflict and story begins from here on out.
I believe he asked the question in the first place because of the fact that she seems to be responding to a conversation they seemingly had months ago. And, if you compound on that the fact that as of the end of Season 3 (as established in Season 4), Salem is of the belief that Ozpin is dead, there's no reason to be talking to him at all, this whole conversation makes little sense.
So, I think the entirety of the conversation actually takes place when we first hear it at the beginning of the show, but we don't get the full conversation for dramatic effect until the end of Volume 3. Yes, it SOUNDS like she's talking as if her plan has already succeeded in the second half of the conversation, but that's not necessarily the case. She could just be assuming that her plan will go off without a hitch. "This is merely the first move," is really the only descriptor, and it is not necessarily referring to a plan that has already happened. Everything else is equally vague.
I'm interested to see if we actually get more of this conversation at some point. It would be cool if Ozpin had some retort to this that will become relevant in some Volume Finale.
With the first three volumes being bookended by Salem’s narration, I bet, as a counter, the third-to-last volume will begin with a narration by one of the heroes (my bets are on Ruby or Ozpin), and end with the second half of the narration.

Salem, YOU were the one who rose up against the gods and thus the Dark God killed all of humanity and made them have to evolve all over again. You and Oz are the only ones that were alive back then (and even Ozma was dead at that particular moment) who are still alive today. I wouldn't call that easily forgetting.
"But even the most brilliant lights flicker and die" Like Ozma, you know, the husband whose death you should have accepted.

Also, a large amount of Salem's V3 speech about "how does it feel?" is more poignant now that we know her rebellion against the gods and how that turned out.
