its okay thank you for putting this together! Poor oscar and what did oz mean "I experienced the same thing?" Did he die before and go into another body????? He's also going to have a friend forever so he's never going to get lonely lol
You're very welcome! I interpreted it to mean that Ozpin had a voice appear in his head one day when he was boy, much like Oscar has now. Popular theory is that the wizard who gave the maidens their powers passes from one body to another much like the maidens do. Ozpin was the current incarnation of the wizard until he was killed by Cinder, which is when his consciousness was transferred to Oscar.
josoi; Actually, in the world of Remnant episode that talks about the Great War, it said that the King of Vale founded the Huntsmen academies. Ozpin tells Oscar that he (Ozpin) founded the Huntsmen academies. So, refrigerator brilliance states that the King of Vale was the voice that Ozpin heard when he was a boy and shared the Aura and memories of the King. In fact, when put into that context, it adds another layer of when Ozpin tells Ruby he's made, "more mistakes than any man, woman and child on this planet." Still possible the mind transfers may go longer than the King, so the wizard might've been real if the Maidens do exist.
My only problem is that Oscar gets too little onscreen development. My idea would have been to give Oscar something of a flashback to when he agreed to go on the journey.
I really like the scene where Ozpin is trying to convince Oscar that he isn't crazy. I don't know why, but that scene felt like one of the most emotional ones in the series. You can hear the pure anguish in his voice.
So far Oscar is kinda reminding me of Luke Skywalker; he a farmboy living with his aunt but secretly wishes for greater aspirations and now he is being guided (and mentored maybe) by a some wise ol' wizard that had his body destroyed but now continues to interact with the living realm in some incorporeal form.
ReduxEditor335 Damn I didn’t think of it like that. That’s all 100% true, Oscar does dream of being something other than a farmer, but I don’t think he wanted...this. I think he’s still a bit reluctant too.
'I didn't say you were NORMAL, I said you were SANE.'Big difference kiddo. Also, something I can totally picture my friends saying to me... Or me to them, depending on the day.
I think that when Oscar wakes up, he looks like he had a nightmare. In the later seasons when Ozpin came back he said “your starting to tap into my longest held memories” I think Oscar is remembering when Ozpin was killed by Cinder, when he wakes up in a fright.
But what's stopping him from NOT going? Just being nagged repeatedly? What reason does Oscar actually have that relates to his situation? Like if Hazel or someone on Salem's team knew Ozpin was there and that made Oscar realize he had to leave or else his aunt would be killed, THAT would be a reason. Not "okay, I guess I'll just run away from home on a random journey because a voice in my head told me to and would not stop bugging me."
"I know you don't want to live the rest of your life working as a farmhand in Mistral." "So you just decided to read my thoughts!?" Oscar seemingly has aspirations of being a Huntsman, or at least someone more important than a farmhand, but initially resists because of how completely absurd the whole situation is.
Okay, that's step ONE. Step two would be actually having him face some PHYSICAL thing that would give him reason to leave. Ozpin just saying "c'mooooooooooon" for a long time is not that.
How about preparation? I don't know, maybe tolerance? At some point the shock of a dude inside your head fades and you're able to think about what to do. If this is the chance you've been waiting for and you decide to go, there's gonna be some time for decision making and getting ready to leave for a while.
my question is did Oscar see Salem's meeting before he awoke? Like the scene cuts RIGHT at the end and usually that's a sign of foresight or something. Did he feel a disturbance in the Force? Hear Tyrian's shitty laughter from another continent? Realize the Frodo Rose was in danger? What?
When we first saw that early in the volume I definitely was thinking he might have some sort of ability to sense things / prophesize, but I don't think I subscribe to that theory at this point. I think it was just an interesting transition. It's great food for thought though. There seems to be some significance with Ozpin and time so perhaps seeing the future plays into that in some capacity and that transition was the first indication of Ozpin and Oscar's relationship. Intriguing stuff!
I remember thinking "who cares about this but. Skip to the good parts" and here I am, Oscar being by far my favourite character, looking back and kind of going "Oh I was such a fool"
I find Oscar's story,to be the most interesting, because,if he learns how to use Ozpin's cane,he could kill cinder,or,even team up with RNJR,but at Haven,Watts is already there,so,I think Watts might kill Oscar and the others,or,at least try, what do you think?
I could see Oscar joining with team _NJR as Ruby will presumably want to reunite with _WBY as they all seem to be headed to haven, but in all honesty, I don't expect there to really be clear cut 'teams' in volume 5. The story lines are likely going to intertwine in all sorts of interesting ways which should make Volume 5 a blast. I don't think that Cinder or Oscar will be dying any time soon, if ever. Though Oscar killing Cinder would be an interesting turn of a events from the more predictable Jaune or even Ruby doing it. I definitely don't think Watts will be killing Oscar though.
josoi You have a point,I especially see Ruby wanting to reunite with Yang the most,or,Blake and Weiss,as she never really got to say, goodbye,to them, they just, left, but Salem probably knows that Ozpin and Oscar, are, technically, one in the same,so Oscar may be a target to Salem, but team JNR is probably still gonna stay with RWBY,but,it appears Blake may be arriving last,it'll take a while before she gets there. Since she's in Menagerie,so Oscar is gonna take place of Pyrrha, possibly.
DG SeventeenLives i think Watts might meet Oscar and he just plays along in a conversation. Maybe a couple of threats but just like a untrusted conversation
I wonder if Oscar will end up in with team JNR, if so, how would it be called? Team JORN? How do you pronounce that? Probably Journey... I don't know, that's the first word that came to my mind...
It could be ORNJ (Orange) implying Oscar is the new leader. Alternatively his last name is 'Pine' and it could actually go back to be being JNPR with Jaune once again as the leader. Either of these will still keep the color rule.
This whole story reminds me of the original beginning to Star Wars. A farm boy goes on an adventure accompanied by an wise, old man. They eventually meet a smuggler for hire at a bar, who is cool and bad-ass. The cane at the end reminded me of when Luke ignited his first light saber.
This is some avatar shit right here and I love this series don't take it as offensive words I really need to go back and watch the series I've been living under a rock for a long ass Time
You’d think he was suffering from schizophrenia (a mental disorder where you hear voices in your head. If you’re wondering more about this disorder you should look it up.) but in his case, it’s not. 😄
Y'know after watching the last chapter of Volume 7, at 0:54 - 1:24 the piano rendition here sounds similar to the Vol. 7 end credits song! Like whoa... 😮
Last transition in this one is a little rough. I thought it was smoother, but I must have messed it up shortly before exporting. Oops.

josoi I totally agree with that. People are shipping Oscar and Ruby but it's like she's dating her teacher. Can't wait till they meet though

Nothing you said contradicts anything I said. So it sounds like we agree!
I can see the conversation between Oscar and Ozpin.
Oz: "Try the bar."
Os: "Why would he be there?"
Oz: "Urgh, trust me, that's where he always goes."

So all Ozpin had to do was annoy Oscar into going?
We seem to be missing some steps in the Hero's Journey, here...
What's he gonna do? Live his entire life on a farm with a voice in his head constantly nagging him to leave? I'd do it.
