I can sing this song pretty good but I agree Casey is indeed amazing and she's so good she's probably used to singing songs like this that would make your voice tired.
The song is in three parts, all in Weiss's perspective Part 1: lost and bound by the way she was raised Part 2: starting to find herself Part 3: F*%# YOU DAD I'LL DO WHATEVER I WANT TO DO!
Dude, that's me when I was on my way to become a typical angsty teen. "Oh, shit, middle school. So close to being an adult, what do I want to do?" "Huh, that seems cool, maybe I'll do this for a job." "FuCk YoU, mOm! GeT oFf My BaCK!"
Now I understand why her father gave her a look instead of applauding like everyone else. Her first step in rebelling against her father. Still a beautiful song.
The rest of the audience didn't hear the deep seated meaning, implications of abuse or attack on their lifestyle... all they heard was a pretty song...
Really? My takeaway is that her father didn't notice the many, many insults peppered in the song but Whitley did. His clapping was a "Well done, worthy enemy" sort wherein he still is trying to screw her over, but he can appreciate a subtle "fuck you and the whore who bore you" like Weiss' towards her abusive father.
It wasn't hers, she was still being controlled and now she's broken free. She realized this life was always here's, so she took it back, telling him that he no longer controlled her.
this songs says how much changed at first we thought she was just some snobby rich kid brat then we figure out she actually had a heart this song is about her breaking the things that held her back, she broke her family's hold on her and set herself free.
Casey Ashlynn Angel Matthews It is cool because the first theme is, Mirror Mirror hide me from me, I need you, help me be hidden, white is cold and always urning burdened by the royal test, and this is, I am done hiding, mirror mirror we are done, I am not burdened by the royal test, I am no longer hidden.
Something in folk lore Jacques would say. One good thing Ironwood did was vaporizing him especially as his daughter was only one of thousands had abused and even killed for sure.
@@VegetaLF7 And then her father leaves without speaking a word after the song is over. Yea, fuck the Schnee family (not you Weiss, your beautiful and have done nothing wrong)
This song blending from slow and dramatic, like Mirror Mirror, to accelerated and adrenaline inducing, like the opening songs, perfectly encapsulated Weiss' own transition. It shows that while Weiss does retain elements of the perfectionist, calculating heiress her father raised, she's changed into the free, independent, and friendly huntress her team wants her to be.
yes. And while she'll never be as friendly and upbeat as the other team, she's still changed a lot and develops while keeping that familiar "Weiss vibe". She's one of the best-developed characters in the series, in my opinion
She also wanted to be that, sure getting out from under her father's thumb and with her team helped, But she changed on her own, and a lot quicker than it took some other characters to grow out of their more negative traits. She's living up to who she wants to be it's not her father or her team, it's her!
The entire song was so much better than I could have imagined! However the spot for number one RWBY song for me is still Red Like Roses. Hell that song is in a couple of my non-RWBY playlists on spotify. Although I love most of the songs created by the Williams, and I can't wait to add this one to my spotify collection! (None of the season 4 songs have been added yet)
I’m just happy that this song exists at all hell I’m 35 and this is one of the songs that’s in like all of my Spotify play lists lol. But true I wish this song was around when I was younger as well. Inspirational with a phenomenal young singer
Honestly I was disapointed in how this song turned out? Im not saying its bad but I was more hoping to hear it as it was done in the show and after the second chorus it just doest feel right. I didn't envision this song going from opera to rock. It just seems like this should have been the remix rather than the original
I used the Spanish subtitles and there's one touch that I adore which doesn't occur in English. Spanish has formal and informal words, all informal words are used. It shows that she has no more respect for her so called father.
I've been trying to imagine what the rock parts would sound like with the sound/feel of the charity concert. I like to imagine that she did sing the whole song before that scene started. It's pretty clear that Jacques was not confused by the meaning as he stares down while not participating in the applause. He may have even decided in that moment to revoke her heiress status, and the party incident only added to his "justification."
Jacob Wilger Well If you already done it. You had or still have Three other Kingdoms that you could chose from, as in Vale, Vacuo, and Mistral. And I know what people are going to say “Well Mistral is part of Mantle which is run by Atlas.” And I’m going to say that Mantle is it’s own Entity started by Mistral for trade as well as Transportation between the other Kingdoms.
I feel like Weiss is one of those Role Models for people who are being abused because she's basically telling her story and how she was able to get away from her abusive father. She sticks up for herself and she really develops as a character. She's telling people that if they're being abused, then they need to tell somebody, like how she did. Edit: Oh...wow...that's...a lot of likes...um, thanks guys? [Doesn't know how to feel about this]
TsukiAquaMoonCat Streble I personally relate to Weiss in the way I show emotion. I have never felt as if I was able to show any negative emotions around my mom and that’s made me completely stop showing emotion around most people. Not only that but I always feel my mom wanting me to stay home and do what she wants and go to the college she wants.
Weiss Schnee's father is a textbook narcissist, which are commonly child abusers. You can research "narcissistic personality disorder" and it fits him to the T.
Jasmine theSnowwolf Same here, I still like Weiss but I wasn't too happy with her when she started harassing Blake about her past. But then again I just really love Blake, so I'm probably biased lol.
Anyone else agree that Casey has improved as a singer drastically since volume 1? Not saying she was bad but there's a massive difference between then and now
mike mizfan I think it's more like I don't see myself more the way my father see me (the mirror represent how her father saw her and how he make her see herself)
peleg ariely i see in any case the mirror is finally broken and hopefully instead of little bits and snags of mirror mirror in instrumentals will hear This song instead
My favorite part of this song is how it's not just Weiss basically telling her father "you are wrong", she's also saying "I was wrong too, but now I know better". It's admirable that she's taking a step back from everything she was taught and now she's figuring out the differences between who she was shaped into and who she really is. Weiss is definitely the best, most thought-out character in the show so far and everything about her is inspiring.
Weiss is incredibly deep, she came off as this pretentious little bitch, but as she developed and grew, she has grown to be one of the best written characters in the series. And this song shows her growth from Vol.1 to now. The beginning of this song is Weiss accepting her role back at Atlas and the singing at the donation concert. That 2nd part is the show of care for Vale, the slap, her being disowned, and her finally saying enough as she summons her white knight. The final part is her escape from prison where she hits the chopper and heads off to do what she wants. A beautifully written and song of sorrow and realization.
Essentially. Her father locked her in her room, and said she was mentally ill to the public so he could freely shift the heir-hood (I think that's what you call it) to Whitley, who is a conniving little shit and would thus make a better businessperson than Weiss. Because, lets face it, very few people can make lots of money in business and keep their heart from turning black.
I believe in this case a better metaphor would be a heart of ice.... ;) Anyway, I so want this song to be an actual dialogue from Weiss when they come back to Atlas.
She may be going back, but at least now she's free, and isn't alone anymore. Also, I'd hardly call that "imprisoned." She was merely... detained, for a short while. She could have broken out at any time. Kinda hard to imprison someone who can summon up 15ft tall armored knights at will.
If you listen to all of Weiss' songs, you *really* see how far she's come. Start with Path to Isolation, then Mirror Mirror I, then Mirror Mirror II, then (I think) It's My Turn, and finally This Life is Mine. She goes from being her father's puppet to her own person.
i like how in the last verse of the song, it feels like she rips off her nice clothes to reveal punk black and lets her hair down before the guitar riffs begin
I can just imagine Weiss as a little girl, small and unsure, already aware that there's something wrong with her family. Her father comes to her room and unveils a beautiful mirror, saying that it is the family's most treasured heirloom. Before every performance, she would look in the mirror, uncertain of... something. She would stare into the mirror, trying in futility to find something that wasn't there. One day, she realizes it. She was always looking for her family's approval in the mirror, but she knew that whatever she was looking for couldn't be found there. Breaking her father's hold on her through her family's facade allowed her to retrieve her heart, and shattering the mirror's glass allowed her to be free. Also I can just imagine Weiss just freakin rocking it on a guitar
"First it was separate lunches and dinners.. opposite balconies at my recitals.. a glass of wine here... a glass of wine there... then, it was no dinners... no recitals... a bottle of wine here.. and well, you get the idea"
This song hits so deep. One year ago today, my father ran away in the middle of the night. I was only 21 at the time, working full time and desperately trying to carve out a small piece of the world for myself, saving up to move into an apartment one day. My mom is disabled but not on disability payments- scared my father would run away with her money or spend it on booze. And waking up on February 1st with a sickening feeling knawing at all of my senses, I discovered he ran away and didn’t pay a penny on any of the bills. But today, TODAY, I took my life back. I paid off his debts that unfortunately had my name attached to them. I took care of my mom. I provided better living situations for both of us. I did what he couldn’t. I took my life back, and now I’m finally free. I might be his blood but I am my own person, and I can leave him behind because nobody gets to hold me down anymore. I’m never going back.
The song itself says how far Weiss has grown. At first her songs were more relaxed and slow like Mirror Mirror and Mirror Mirror Pt. 2. Then you see a progression with It's My Turn. Weiss is telling her Father: "Ok you may have gotten the best of me, now it's my turn." Then BOOM here comes This Life With Mine, basically breaking down all precedents of how Weiss' songs are. She breaks down the mirror and basically tells her dad to go screw himself. This ladies and gentlemen, is character growth. This is why I love Weiss. This is why I love RWBY.
i can strongly agree with this and i personally LOVE weiss, but seeing weiss jump and hug and hold yang told me she changed and grew as a person and a member of team RWBY.
*Red Like Roses:* "White is cold and always yearning, burdened by a royal test" *This Life Is Mine:* "I won't be posessed, burdened by your royal test" Anyone else notice this?
I love all characters of RWBY and characters like Cinder I love to hate. But I honestly do believe Weiss shines out from everyone in how she developed and how they wrote her. It's just beautiful to look at how far she has come, how she changed. From the girl who discriminated the Faunus' to someone who rushed in to save Velvet and shielded her. From the perfectionist who learned the the true values in life thanks to Port. From a girl who was chained to her father to a defiant young woman. Not sure if the comparison is appropriate but I always thought of it this way: Weiss at the beginning was a princess who now turned into lady.
I'm guessing she has the most songs out of the four characters because with each song she got, it told her story and how she was breaking through her fathers control. How she wasn't sure at first if being on her own was the right choice but then finally In this song she realizes that money and a family name can't intimidate her to gaining freedom.
well its becausethe first few seasons development focused mainly on weiss and blake when it came to the main four. now Yang is getting some but Ruby still hasnt gotten much development only some around the ending of season 4
I don't know. I mean, I'm sure Ruby will grow as a character and a lot of her past innocence will continue to be shed, but I feel like she is going to be a fairly static character through the series. And that's not a bad thing. She will always be strong, kind, and determined to protect the people and the world she loves. It brings me back to Volume 2 when the other three girls were discussing the reasons why they wanted to be huntresses, admitting their motivations and identifying their faults. Volume 4 has shown them each dealing with these motivations in their own ways. Weiss wanted to find a way to uphold her family's honor without cowing before her father, and now she has faced up to him and openly defied him. Blake admitted she always ran from what scared her, and her conversation with her father made her realize that she hasn't fled nearly as much as she thought, and now she is determined to face her fears once and for all. Yang admitted she was carefree and never thought much of the future. The loss of her arm forced her to really think about the value of her life and what she needed to do to move forward. Ruby has pretty much always been on the right track, unlike the others. Her struggle is to not lose faith in her cause.
First listen: Ehh, another song about Weiss being lonely and taking back her life... Big deal. Second listen: Not too bad. But I still prefer Mirror Mirror. Third listen: *BUT I DON’T INTEND TO SUFFER ANY LONGER!* *HERE’S WHERE YOUR DOMINION FALLS APART!* *I’M SHATTERING THE MIRROR* *THAT KEPT ME SPLIT IN PIECES!* *THAT STOOD BETWEEN MY MIND AND MY HEART!*
Fifth listen: *I'M NOT YOUR PET!!! NOT ANOTHER THING YOU OWN!!* *I AM NOT FOR GUILTY OF YOUR CRIMES!!! YOUR RICHES AND YOUR INFLUENCE CAN'T HOLD ME ANYMORE!!*
Eos Iachini It matches? Guess you could say it.. Mirrors my intensity. Yes, I get it, that's Yang's job. I'll just sit in the corner of rejected puns now.
I LOVE the change that it progressively made from being a calming piano tempo to a rock song! It clearly shows Weiss' character development from Volume 4! This is officially now my top favorite RWBY song!
*I love everything about this song... from the symbolism to the vocals, it's all flawless. It truly shows what a strong character Weiss has become, with the soft and whispery voice at the beginning, building up the power as it goes along. Definitely one of my favorite RWBY songs of all time...*
My favourite thing about this song is that throughout it all, the structure of each section doesn't change. For example the phrase at 4:26 is basically the same as 0:58 - 1:20 but faster and in a VERY different time signature (I think it's a combination of 9/8 and 7/8 time instead of 12/8 but I'm not 100% sure about that)). Really beautiful technique.
I like that this song shows the development of Weiss compared to the start of the series. In Red like Roses pt. 1 there is the line: "White is cold and always yearning, burned by a royal test" but here it goes like: "I won't be possessed, burned by your royal test". This shows, in my opinion, that Weiss finally was ready to face up father and was ready to leave.
Why Ever After trying to get her sad looking at image of her lost home did not hit her very hard. She had already decided to leave and never return she did not lose something she had already given up.
Weiss is not my favorite character (I'm not saying I dislike her, I just have other characters that are my favs). Yet without fail, whenever there is a Weiss song it becomes my favorite of the season. "This Life is Mine" is no exception. I'll admit I wasn't expecting it this time but the rule holds true
See, I only felt that way for Volume 1 and Volume 4. This Life Is Mine and Mirror Mirror are probably my favourite or second favourite songs of their respective soundtracks, but I didn't like either of the Weiss-focused songs from Volume 3 (It's My Turn and Mirror Mirror Part 2). In my opinion, the first just didn't sound good. It wasn't Casey's greatest vocal achievement, nor did Jeff's usually amazing musical talent shine on that track. And MM Part 2 was just far too slow and simplistic. In some cases, this can work, but for me, this song just didn't. I preferred Cold and I'm the One from Volume 3's OST.
I know she only sang the opera part in the fundraiser but just imagine if she organized a full on rock concert in the high class amphitheater and sang the part about her dad being a rich loser.
That would have been the most epic thing in the whole show. But really, the courage of this girl singing a song like this in front of everyone... Many people would like to have this type of courage.
Weiss... Just darn. She basically says "Screw you dad" in an elegant way and I love it. Jaques just let it slide too, considering he doesn't get mad at what Weiss is singing in front of all his business partners and all the others that listened. This isn't even the first time it happened either. The white trailer, who knows how many people were there?
I guess it didn't matter what she sang as long as she sang, actually saying things like at the party embarrassing him in front of his rich friends is his red line
vol 1, and 2 : people thing Weiss is a snobby little brat • volume 3 : Weiss is strong and cool but still cold • volume 4 : HOLY FU***** SHEETS. *SUDDENLY WEISS BECOMES THE MOST BADASS RWBY CHARACTER IN THE UNIVERSE*
But then you realise she loses so often it gets annoying White Trailer, gets a scar Vol 1, doesn't become leader Vol 2, get beat by a guy with a chainsaw Vol 3, gets taken down in the doubles round Vol 4, she gets her heiresses status taken Vol 5, fails to save pilot and gets impaled by Cinder I don't remember what it was in Volume 6 but I know something happened.
To this day I have never heard a song that spoke to me so deeply Rejecting a father's abuse and gaslighting is an experience we both share and the lyrics here cut to the core and are so tragically heartfelt I felt nostalgic today and came back to see if it was still as powerful and moving as I remembered and it certainly is
Okay I know this would be impossible but how freaking EPIC would it be if Rooster Teeth originally showed this song in it's entirety? Like the whole thing is super somber and regal but then BOOM! Epic guitars and drums come out of nowhere all because Weiss wants to be super extra when she roasts her dad.
Weiss: Mirror, mirror, what should i do? Mirror: You should escape even if it's dangerous, just like my grandma once said "people make laws and break them 'coz yolo my child".
Favorite part: "i’ve been afraid never standing on my own i let you be the keeper of my pride believed you when you told me i was nothing on my own listen when I say i swear it here today i will not surrender this life is mine" Almost reminds me of Yukiko's song in Persona 4: The Animation, being locked in a cage and wanting to be free. ...SYMBOLISM!
The first time I played Persona 4 (a few months ago haha) I instantly thought of Weiss when fighting Yukiko's shadow, their struggles were really similar. Both having their path carved out for them by their family, both trying to break free from it and finding themselves, both struggling to know who they are and what they want...
Coming from a very controlling, borderline abusive family, this song hits hard. Even though I had a fight with my grandma about what she does and how I feel about it, and she said she would try to do better, I’m still scared. Change is never a pretty thing in my experience, especially not in such a homophobic, transphobic family, and I’m still scared things will go back to the way they were. I guess that’s why the beginning of this song is so emotional for me. The “There’s a part of me that’s desperate for changes” and “But there’s... part of me that’s scared I might be wrong” really resonate, at the risk of sounding cliche. But the rest of the song lets me believe for even a moment that I can break free, that I can be my own person, and become who I am on the inside. I want to be who I am and love who I love. I respect my grandma’s attempt at change, but there’s still dread that hangs over me all the time. I don’t know when it’ll go away, or even if it will. This song gives me hope, though. This song is beautiful. It’s amazing, and I am so glad I found RWBY. It’s given me something nothing else could.
This hits me, too. I had just realized that my mom was gaslighting me about my dad, who was clearly disrespectful. Her response? "He didn't mean it like that" and "Why was I crying?" Now I'm planning to stay with my boyfriend due to all that.
That twist though, makes you think it's another "Weiss" song, then shows her strength break free. (Breaks off the old pattern of her songs and into a rock-ish style). Showing her breaking off of her father and not listening anymore.
Does anyone else think Weiss' songs sounds almost theatrical? This one actually breaks the mold in stages. It starts like she's singing to a posh crowd, transitions to a rock opera before kicking down the door and going full punk rock.
The way the song goes from soft opera to rock shows her as a character. Soft for representing her still being a stuck up bitch in high society to rock representing her becoming her own self and realizing her role in life. Princess to hunter in just 5 minutes. Amazing work.
This genre of metal (it is metal given the musical patterns and dynamics, as well as the vocal range and similarities to classical) is referred to as Orchestral metal. This particular song does use a unique way of segmenting the orchestral elements from the metal elements, then blending them together at the end. Not sure how unique it is, given my admittedly limited knowledge of the genre, but from what I have heard, this method of splitting and combining styles is quite refreshing, and as you stated, suits Weiss' character exceedingly well.
Heh... Somehow I don't think Weiss played the guitar part ar 2:21 for her Charity concert. Imagine her singing like that in front of her father and the public of Atlas!
this song's so awesome, i love all of Weiss' themes that they made throughout the series. i didn't really care about her that much at the beginning of the show, but i later then grew up to like her more as she developed, and she eventually became one of my favorite characters of RWBY =)
man, this song hits all kinds of ways after figuring out that my parents are abusive. I guess I know now why I always loved Weiss so much. I've been looking for a song to get me through this. a song to let me declare my worth, my independence. this is it. this life is mine. they don't own me, I don't exist for them. this is my life and I deserve to be happy. I shattered the mirror. now I need to find a way out. It's gonna be ok. I've got this.
it's like Metallica's Nothing Else Matters fused with a nightwish song i'm learning to play this song on guitar but i have to drop down to Drop C and go C,G,C,F,A,D on the tuning
Slightly dofferent in that we hear an instrumental or orchestral variant of the 3rd verse. But THEN we go full out into the final verse complete with vocals. Ot was just damn badass
I kind of want to see a legit music video of this where Weiss is performing and halfway through she's flipping off her dad Band shows up and it turns into the most defiant thing Weiss will ever do
I clicked so hard on the notification, I opened like 8 tabs.... I'm not closing them, I'm listening to everyone of them I'll see if I can lend a hand with spanish subs, thanks a ton Flynt!
Weiss and Qrow are my two favorite characters from RWBY, so now that their full songs are out..it only gets better! This Life is Mine is spectacular and I loved it the moment I first heard heard it. From Mirror Mirror, when Weiss was trying to figure herself out to now...the transition is beautiful.
As someone who has had to formally disown 99% of my family for mental and emotional abuse, this hits differently. I'm tearing up... there's hardly anyone left.
Now I can just imagine when Weiss was singing on the stage a Swedish rock band just came up from the bottom and rose up, flames and all, playing guitar and shit behind her.
This song describes Weiss perfectly. It's like a summary of her life from episode 1 to the end of Volume 4. Man, I can't wait for Volume 5. Too bad there's no choice.
Weiss has the best character development in the entire series. It's amazing to think about how much I used to detest her way back in Vol. 1 and how much I love and root for her now.
It's telling that the second time she lays eyes on Ruby Rose, she immediately (though in the bitchiest and most stuck-up way possible) tries to make sure Ruby never endangers herself by sneezing on volatile Dust containers again. Her heart has always been in the right place. She just had to smash through that mirror to reach it.

Her father also probably taught her alot as well.

THIS LIFE IS HERS
It wasn't hers, she was still being controlled and now she's broken free.
She realized this life was always here's, so she took it back, telling him that he no longer controlled her.

Fully deserved it after what he did to her.... I really gotta day not a lot of things make me mad but what he did made my blood boil in a fiery rage.

this song is about her breaking the things that held her back, she broke her family's hold on her and set herself free.

Conflo Ashton Blake on bass? The most forgotton part of a band which secretly keeps it together? Sounds right lmao
*at the afterparty* someone: haha hey Jacques what was she singing about?
jacques: oh idk don't worry about it lmao
Something in folk lore Jacques would say. One good thing Ironwood did was vaporizing him especially as his daughter was only one of thousands had abused and even killed for sure.
Kids, am I right?
Remember that this song is about the same person who says "I love you most of all, Cake Butler" in their sleep.

@juan manuel Brac "there's no need to wonder where your god is, because he's right here.. And he's fresh out of mercy"

In the third chorus SMACKS so hard!!!
Just a reminder, Weiss sang this at the charity concert with all of Atlas' elite in attendance, including her father.
@@VegetaLF7 And then her father leaves without speaking a word after the song is over. Yea, fuck the Schnee family (not you Weiss, your beautiful and have done nothing wrong)
@@VegetaLF7
I doubt that he ever recovered from that punch in his reputation's face...
Paulidot The Peridot I honesty didn't expect it to be half badass rock ballad. Pure epicness
Me neither
Paulidot The Peridot anyone else imagining a SFM Weiss just doing the sick riffs in this, and going a little too far, ala back to the future?
She's living up to who she wants to be it's not her father or her team, it's her!
holy fucking shit, this is officially my favorite Weiss song!
Edit: favorite RWBY song
Edit: Favorite song.
Rygel Choong I love rwby music than more quote "normal" songd
It's my Turn stays my favorite, but this is really, reaaaaaaaaaaaaally close second. (As for the "Weiss Songs")
This,Die,It's my Turn and Boop,my personal favs.
I wish this song had existed when I was younger. 💔
Hola qué tal, no te esperaba aquí.
You ok?
Same here. I'm 33, just had an hour long cry, and this is my go-to "your father's opinion doesn't matter, you can do this" song.
You know I'm just 4 years old when I first heard this from my brother....
I’m just happy that this song exists at all hell I’m 35 and this is one of the songs that’s in like all of my Spotify play lists lol. But true I wish this song was around when I was younger as well. Inspirational with a phenomenal young singer
This was the most beautiful roast I have ever heard!
SegaStar Kind of ironic that it's targetting someone referencing Jack Frost :D
KeterLordFR than it will be even more effective
KeterLordFR I'd say hitting Jack Frost with a sick burn is just what you're supposed to do because it'll do more damage to ol' hee-ho.

Honestly I was disapointed in how this song turned out? Im not saying its bad but I was more hoping to hear it as it was done in the show and after the second chorus it just doest feel right. I didn't envision this song going from opera to rock. It just seems like this should have been the remix rather than the original
This may be the greatest song on the entire RWBY soundtrack.

I used the Spanish subtitles and there's one touch that I adore which doesn't occur in English. Spanish has formal and informal words, all informal words are used. It shows that she has no more respect for her so called father.

Can you just imagine Weiss rocking out during that charity concert though? HAHAHA All of Weiss's songs are amazing, but this is my favorite by far 😍
Natassia Valerio I need fanart of The minute the rock hits she rips her dress and has like a black leather clothes and she rocks out haha
Imagine is all we can do,I just wish we can do more about it.
This song is basically a roasting,so yeah.
NO ,BUT SHE WOULD! *cue Weiss jamming to Chopsticks on piano*
The end of this song makes me want a new design for Weiss' outfit, something less formal, not total rebell, but something less... Atlas.
But still a combat skirt.
TheShadowQueen oh yeah, still a combat skirt
I imagine her getting something close to Yang's style, but ya know, white.
Agreed
And she sang this for a charity concert.
I was like is this even appropriate for this subject of charity?
I guess the audience was supposed to think the horrors of The Fall of Beacon was the thing Weiss was trying to escape by saying "my life is mine"
WAIT WHEN??? WHERE ?
I WANNA SEE IT!!!
kevin aguirre Somewhere in volume 4 just search up Weiss singing this life is mine in vol4
it was done intentionally as a "fuck you, dad". but she did it publicly because she knew he'd never reprimand her for it that way

There's thing called "Rock Opera" that you might want to look into
brendon195 oh shot really?
Look up Nightwish.
Look up Tran-siberian Orchestra.
Anna Selter Weiss Schnee: narrating her character arc in a point by point format since 2013
Weiss Schnee's father is a textbook narcissist, which are commonly child abusers. You can research "narcissistic personality disorder" and it fits him to the T.
Blake is a role model for someone with an abusive ex, and she also has severe self-image issues,
@True NightmareTale True she does/did have that aspect to her personality as well. I didn't think about it until you said something, but you're right.
I loved Weiss from the moment she walked on screen and never stopped.
Same. I never hated her to be 100% honest.
Weiss is my favorite out of team RWBY (^-^*)
TrueLiesLost I only hated her when she was targeting Blake for being in the white fang
Jasmine theSnowwolf
Same here, I still like Weiss but I wasn't too happy with her when she started harassing Blake about her past.
But then again I just really love Blake, so I'm probably biased lol.
And what was worse was Blake wasn't really "in" the white fang but in her eyes Whiess was basically insulting her family
Anyone else agree that Casey has improved as a singer drastically since volume 1? Not saying she was bad but there's a massive difference between then and now
even from the Vol 4 soundtrack to the Vol 5 opening. honestly every time a new season drops she gets better
"I'm not your pet, not another thing you own / I was not born guilty of your crimes" still goes so fucking hard

Also unofficial Mirror Mirror part 3
Scott Garrett this is like her breaking the mirror saying fuck this I'm not confused anymore
Scott Garrett no more Mirror Mirror from now on
mike mizfan I think it's more like I don't see myself more the way my father see me (the mirror represent how her father saw her and how he make her see herself)
peleg ariely i see in any case the mirror is finally broken and hopefully instead of little bits and snags of mirror mirror in instrumentals will hear This song instead
Scott Garrett
"Now this conversation's over
Mirror, mirror now we're done" :3
I like how it goes from classy opera (life as the Schnee heiress) to rebellious hard rock (Weiss the huntress who lives for herself)
I just want Winter to give her a big hug for finally stepping out of her father's shadow
Wait,she was disowned?
Essentially. Her father locked her in her room, and said she was mentally ill to the public so he could freely shift the heir-hood (I think that's what you call it) to Whitley, who is a conniving little shit and would thus make a better businessperson than Weiss.
Because, lets face it, very few people can make lots of money in business and keep their heart from turning black.
I believe in this case a better metaphor would be a heart of ice.... ;)
Anyway, I so want this song to be an actual dialogue from Weiss when they come back to Atlas.
She may be going back, but at least now she's free, and isn't alone anymore. Also, I'd hardly call that "imprisoned." She was merely... detained, for a short while. She could have broken out at any time. Kinda hard to imprison someone who can summon up 15ft tall armored knights at will.
Hawk of Battle
I mean, it was more of a psychological prison tbh.
"As the lone princess of ice cries her tears freezing before they touch the ground she prayed for her freedom as she froze the ground before her."
woah, where is this from?
She's the ice princess! ❄️⛸️
She is Elsa
You can FEEL the character progression and the complexity of Weiss in this!
If you listen to all of Weiss' songs, you *really* see how far she's come. Start with Path to Isolation, then Mirror Mirror I, then Mirror Mirror II, then (I think) It's My Turn, and finally This Life is Mine. She goes from being her father's puppet to her own person.
Character progression: it's happening right now.
i like how in the last verse of the song, it feels like she rips off her nice clothes to reveal punk black and lets her hair down before the guitar riffs begin
Kevin Barber true
You mean how she goes from a jerk, to a kind person, yeah, now that you mention it, I'm starting to feel her progression too.
This is beautifully crafted... =D XD
Love the story you've added to this song... Perfect.

I’m never going back.
wow i'm so proud of you 👏🏻🤍✨
I hope you're still doing good to this day, you are absolute amazing and I feel so inspired by you, you did well
Good on ya
You're amazing!
You're an incredible person and I'm so very happy for you, i hope you're doing good today
Agreed Bro!
Mark Pabalan Do you Know what is a summary? If you know then please make It short as much as you can.
i can strongly agree with this and i personally LOVE weiss, but seeing weiss jump and hug and hold yang told me she changed and grew as a person and a member of team RWBY.

I liked Weiss.I knew she had a heart. You can see it in the fights.
You can see it in her second appearance in Volume 1, if you can translate the tsundere-speak.

Yeah kid it was a very obvious reference
I love all characters of RWBY and characters like Cinder I love to hate.
But I honestly do believe Weiss shines out from everyone in how she developed and how they wrote her.
It's just beautiful to look at how far she has come, how she changed.
From the girl who discriminated the Faunus' to someone who rushed in to save Velvet and shielded her.
From the perfectionist who learned the the true values in life thanks to Port.
From a girl who was chained to her father to a defiant young woman.
Not sure if the comparison is appropriate but I always thought of it this way:
Weiss at the beginning was a princess who now turned into lady.
Golden Witch your so right
m'lady
Love cinder she's great
Now if only Ruby got the same level of development...
@@james-xf2vn same
short version: Screw you Jaques! I can do whatever I want and you can't stop me!
The short version lacks a certain classiness that Weiss can hold over Jacques.
White Rose confirmed?
I'm having a tough choice of whose neck I want to squeeze until his head pops off first, Jaq or Whitley!
Is it just me, or is Weiss getting the most character development (and mostly from her songs no less😂)?
2:21 That guitar intro though!!😍😍😍😍
Renee Salinas don't forget 3:53 too. Jesus, Jeff can really make some KILLER guitar solos
Save the best for last(although I don't know how they will beat Weiss's devlopment).

Guys guys, *Let's Just Live* with the consequences of these terrible puns.
Same I love Weiss song

I like that this song shows the development of Weiss compared to the start of the series.
In Red like Roses pt. 1 there is the line: "White is cold and always yearning, burned by a royal test"
but here it goes like: "I won't be possessed, burned by your royal test".
This shows, in my opinion, that Weiss finally was ready to face up father and was ready to leave.
Why Ever After trying to get her sad looking at image of her lost home did not hit her very hard. She had already decided to leave and never return she did not lose something she had already given up.
@@milferdjones2573 She was able to leave her father's abuse. That doesn't mean she turned her back on the rest of her family, much less all of Atlas.
Same though
I preferred Cold and I'm the One from Volume 3's OST.
me at beginning: "this is pretty good"

Jolt Of Justice she will say f you daddy

Epic guitars and drums come out of nowhere all because Weiss wants to be super extra when she roasts her dad.
Weiss is crumping to the beat.
What makes RWBY: every weapon is practically a gun and expect to hear an electric guitar in every single song.

The first time I played Persona 4 (a few months ago haha) I instantly thought of Weiss when fighting Yukiko's shadow, their struggles were really similar.
Both having their path carved out for them by their family, both trying to break free from it and finding themselves, both struggling to know who they are and what they want...

You legit just described my environment with my grandma....
This song can be summed up in 4 words, Weiss hates Papa Schnee also dope ass music
Thats 8 words
Shit i'm really late but eh
The 4 words is : " *Weiss hates papa Schnee* "
Something her and I have in common. I, too, hate Papa Schnee. I have a creepy feeling I will be hating him even more come Ssn 7
Does anyone else think Weiss' songs sounds almost theatrical? This one actually breaks the mold in stages. It starts like she's singing to a posh crowd, transitions to a rock opera before kicking down the door and going full punk rock.
I love this song it's so soft and powerful. It also says a lot about wiess
Never mind not so soft towards the end😂
Addy Macy i like your profile picture, it looks familiar
+rennie rivera thanks i just got it off of google images 😂
I wished that was the scene with Weiss crumping to the beat as well...maybe a scene for after the finale of Volume 4.
Her dad probably would have had an aneurism
I want her to call her brother "Shitley".
this song's so awesome, i love all of Weiss' themes that they made throughout the series. i didn't really care about her that much at the beginning of the show, but i later then grew up to like her more as she developed, and she eventually became one of my favorite characters of RWBY =)
Bluezone785 omg I feel the same way! So much character development UwU she's become my favorite aswell.
It's moments like this that make me glad I decided to give this show a chance.
She must truly be the ice queen with all the shivers this song gave me
Weiss: Mirror,Can you hear me?
Mirror: New Scroll,who dis?
(Edit:OMG how did I get this many likes!!!)
Genius
actually got a legit chuckle out of me XD
lol
Hahaha
😂
*Plays so loud that all mirrors in house shatter*
*No regrets*
Mirror... can you hear me? I guess not, you're broken
man, this song hits all kinds of ways after figuring out that my parents are abusive.
Hell yeah dude! You got this!
Yeah that's right! You can do it! I believe I you!
She just roasted her father
yup she did
Which is really strange, because you think that'd be _Yang's_ job.
Emperor Daniel Dude. xD
Emperor Daniel did u just
A middle fingermto Jaques inmthe best way
*Thinks it's just a ballad* 3... 2... 1.... *Epic rock and metal riffs* Ok, you got me there! :O
Sataandagi96
Mbp
it's like Metallica's Nothing Else Matters fused with a nightwish song
i'm learning to play this song on guitar but i have to drop down to Drop C and go C,G,C,F,A,D on the tuning
So glad to hear this song return in volume 5
Oliver Stretton Same. I think this is the first time a song was reused from a previous season's soundtrack.
Nope, "I may fall" was the first. It first appeared in volume 1 and returned in volume 3
And it was used in the absolute, most perfect way
Slightly dofferent in that we hear an instrumental or orchestral variant of the 3rd verse. But THEN we go full out into the final verse complete with vocals. Ot was just damn badass
Hold up.
Are we sure this is Weiss?
because that was Fire
mercury a2000 trust me, if you know her this is common. Although I would eat her ass.
but she's lit, she's been using fire since the ol' days.
mercury a2000 I see what you did there
when something is freezing enough it feels like it burns; that's probably what our resident Ice Queen did there
This comment, deserve a golden pun-joke medal from Yang....
I kind of want to see a legit music video of this where Weiss is performing and halfway through she's flipping off her dad
Band shows up and it turns into the most defiant thing Weiss will ever do
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THAT HAPPEN?!
MMD animators go!
I already have it planned in my head right before the guitar solo Weiss gives him the finger and she just starts jamming out
Why am I thinking of this happening in a rwby chibi animation.
And why do I think it’s going to happen!?
P.R.A.D this is RT we’re talking about the only Reason they won’t is because it’s supposed to be cute
Am i the only one who gets chills at 4:40?
No.
I do too 😭
Who doesn’t tbh
HELL YEAH BRO I GET CHILLS EVERY TIME 😭😩🤌
I clicked so hard on the notification, I opened like 8 tabs.... I'm not closing them, I'm listening to everyone of them
I'll see if I can lend a hand with spanish subs, thanks a ton Flynt!
Sir/Ma'am, I sincerely hope your doing alright.
Yep. You guys are not alone in that struggle that never should have happened. Respect and love to you both.
**virtual hug** sorry to hear that
I disowned 90% of my dad's family because they were takers instead of givers.
I disowned 90% of my dad's family because they were takers instead of givers.
A truly masterful exploration of Casey's range, as well as a symbol of the most beautifully developed character of the series. Truly incredible.
My life is complete with this song! BTW best song ever!
Ok, the last section of the song starting with “Now this conversation’s finally over” is the best conclusion to any song I’ve ever heard
Now I can just imagine when Weiss was singing on the stage a Swedish rock band just came up from the bottom and rose up, flames and all, playing guitar and shit behind her.
Just brings in Sabaton
i thought they would take a shit behind her.
Maybe with a tank too
The best song in the entire show so far, in my opinion.
Same here!
This song describes Weiss perfectly. It's like a summary of her life from episode 1 to the end of Volume 4. Man, I can't wait for Volume 5. Too bad there's no choice.
Literal TEARS were brought to my eyes.
"Shame it took so long..." Yes, about time this came out. XD
The best of all.
Agreed!
Weiss has the best character development in the entire series. It's amazing to think about how much I used to detest her way back in Vol. 1 and how much I love and root for her now.
You and me both, friend. I thought she was a stuck-up bitch back when we first met her, and now she's one of my favorite characters.
Sable Branwen I love her so much now!!
