His Mids are pretty interesting to me because most people think that mids don’t belong in Death Metal/Deathcore, but Joe’s vocals still have this “death metal” edge to them. Yeah, they’re definitely mids, but they also fit perfectly. Like you could put those over a Cannibal Corpse instrumental, and they’d still fit in. I find that incredibly impressive. CJ McMahon is really good at those types of mids too
I agree. His mids have a certain tonal quality that makes them sound pretty brutal despite the fact they're not the most gutteral thing in the world. I think the way he pronounces the lyrics is a big reason why. He emphasizes certain words or syllables by varying his tone or growl, not unlike how death metal vocalists do. His vocal cadence is also pretty disgusting.
Joe is a fucking BEAST. Saw FFAA live on this most recent tour and my god. Dude sounded incredible. The whole band did. He was also super nice and signed my vinyl

I'm excited for this FFAA has been in my top 2-3 absolute favorites for many years. I'd die of happiness to hear you chat with Joe B on here. They've been getting some much deserved recognition, they were criminally underrated in the past. Appreciate your videos so much! I'd also like to state that the video I watched yesterday also really made me pleased, seeing some black metal on this channel! ♥
Really liked how you said just by shaping the tounge and mouth shape you get different tones. That’s what I’m working on the most rn and I am seeing better results and also more comfortable. I Wouldn’t be able to figure that out tho without your videos, thank you
This is a great song and I love the album, but as far as vocals go I think there would've been more interesting songs to tackle. In Shadows is one excellent example
I listened yo these guys a ton in high school and even rememberr when this song came out. I haven't listened to them in years at this point (not in a bad way), but this hits WAY different as an adult and knowing what he went through in life. He'll be forever a missed artist!

I would love any insight into how Joe gets his vocals! does that "old man" voice Mark demonstrated lead into some sort of a false fold scream? Any more details I can get on that would be awesome!
It can get you either to false chord scream like Mark or fry like Joe. Same starting point, the old man's voice, for the placement of distortion but Mark keeps his throat fully opened while Joe uses some closure in the throat.
