FYI the engineers at Ashtone Studio have confirmed that the vocals are a one-take recording at the same time as the guitar. Drums are also one take but recorded separately as the drummer is the guitarist...

This two-man side project has the entire deathcore scene shook. I mean seriously, these guys are absolute creative geniuses.
I really feel like he tries to keep Darko vocals fresh from Chelsea grin which is very smart. You can tell it’s still Tom in Chelsea grin but he’s definitely doing different stuff in both bands.

I highly recommend watching a video of Chelsea Grin performing live on Warped Tour 2018, when Tom was already their lead singer. This video for the track "Hostage" can be found on CaliberTV.

This makes me hope he breaks down Traitors- menace II society soon. Tyler brought back the moose vocals and I need to see Marks reaction and analysis lol. Tom and Tyler are 2 of the more immediately identifiable vocalists with odd techniques and sounds.

They use the US in the name because there's another metal band named Darko which is not from the US. That's how I see it at least.
I love the alien guitar noises mixed with Tom's vocals. It's so much fun to listen to and makes you want to move so much.
I have no idea what any of this means, but I really enjoyed how you broke it down and explained it. I just want more Darko US, because damn they are refreshing. Keep up the great work!

I love hearing the vocal breakdowns that you put out, I've followed Tom for years and took vocal influence from him. Hearing the science/anatomy behind how we do these vocals is so intriguing to me
I honestly don't know why Tom is my favorite extreme vocalist. There is just something about his vocals that I think are unique sounding and so brutal. I can hear a song for the first time that I have never heard before and from the first scream know that it is Tom Barber. That is what happened to me with Darko. A friend showed me Insects and I immediately knew it was Tom and was curious to what project it was. He is just so good and if I could pick any vocalist to start a brutal project it would be him without hesitation. There are a bunch of vocalists who are as good as him or maybe even better technically, but he has that x factor for me personally. Love him and love Darko because it is so brutal and allows Tom to be more experimental and take chances!
Tom is a Beast! One of the top best out there period! He has different styles he uses for different bands and its amazing. Darko is Legit!!!!! Cant wait til they tour, gonna be sold out shows!!!
Ever since I heard funeral moon Tom has been one of my fav vocalist.
First Lorna Shore song I ever heard and I immediately fell in love, so I feel you there. Tom really never misses with the shots he takes.

Great reaction, and vocal lesson. I love Darko. I've been practicing my metal vocals since 2010. I sound like Cradle Of Filth/Dani Filth. That's just my natural scream, but I can switch to black metal and metalcore/deathcore vocals as well. 🦇🎃🦇🤘🏽🎸

The reason they have "US" in their name is the fact that a hardcore/punk band from the UK formed in 2009 with the name "Darko"

Ok so Tom is a beast....but the guitarist playing upside down just blows my mind!
I only know of three guys who play that way: Baby J (Emmure, Glass Cloud, Darko US), Buster Odeholm (Vildhjarta, Humanity's Last Breath), and Austin Evans (Orthodox).

I love Tom's highs, and for his distinction in the field his lows as well, but I definitely had a subconcious thought of them being "lazy" in a way too...I never would've brought about that adjective on my own but it is a good one because it does mean overall his technique is perfect as far as longevity, but I remember hearing his lows for the first time and thinking "he's getting away with these?? Barely-articulated, dry, word vomit?" Haha - but it's akin to some minimalist painting where hey it is art, subjective, gets the job done/evokes the necessary emotion without needing to lean so hard into it

The breakdown/“weird” vocal part I believe is fry. I can fry scream and have 0 grasp on false chord, but I can get extremely close to the same. I’m also new to the vocal game as well. I start with a basic speaking into a fan style sound and apply some distortion over that. Only way I can describe it if that helps at all 😂
I’ve always gotten it by doing the “Cookie Monster” guttural technique but more “safely” (I have a tutorial on my channel) and just moving the resonance up into my nasal cavity kinda
