Thank you very much. Yesterday my son and I, replaced the CV joint axle on my daughter's Ford Focus 2017. We are pleased with this helpful video. Greetings from El Paso TX.
I've complemented you guys before on producing some of the best 'how to' videos (and you guys have humbly & graciously acknowledged the praise) but when you guys keep putting out tip top videos, i'm going to keep telling you guys you second to none! Writing the visual text book of DIY auto repair!!
A big thank you, with lots of help from my brother and his tools and this video, we successfully replaced my passenger side axle. I wasn’t too sure we could pull this off in a driveway but we did and changed the transmission fluid.
Mate U r a legend...Ur commentary was informative and details helped me to do this job myself without the help of any mechanic...Great work, Bravo!!! aBHISHEK
I have been utilizing 1AAuto vids for years, and this one gave me an extra smile since you used anti-seize. Nice to see you be proactive for future work on the car. Keep up the good work.
I just used this to replace my 2006 Focus axle. Excellent step-by-step instructions. Thank you. Also, I found out there is no ABS ring since it is built into the wheel bearing.
You can also do it by taking out the pinch bolt on the strut where it goes into the steering knuckle and then hammer the knuckle assembly down off the strut where it goes into the knuckle instead of messing with the lower ball joint and upper outer tie rod.
Hey guys - great video! Just keep in mind that 06-11 manual trans Focus uses a different style (2 piece) passenger side axle. The basic removal/install is similar but not the same. Paul
7:47 Protip: That bracket comes in two flavors. A two piece one like shown and a one piece cast part with the bracket/bearing/intermediate shaft pressed together. cast bracket must be unmounted from block by 3 bolts. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WITH THE BRACKET TYPE THAT IS ON YOUR CAR. replacement brackets of the two piece seem to be non-existent.
Another great video from A1Auto. You definitely give a good heads up of the job ahead as well required and suggested tools for the job. Always best to have everything ready so you don't have to stop in the middle to go chasing tools or anything else for that matter. Keep up the great and informative videos. Thank you.
I just received my cv axels, I have my strut assemblies all from 1A Auto. Today. I might be cussing. A lot. A lot of cussing. XD Thank you guys. These videos bring me to your store.
Len in the video the brake hose looked good but of course you could see better then I was it in bad condition ? also I watched both videos the drivers side and the passenger side on the drivers side you disconnected the sway bar link but not on the drivers side. was there a reason for this ? I know there is one on each side
I was really confused... I was doing the Passenger CV Axle on an 2006 ZX 3 with MT....it has an intermediate shaft and it took me about 2 hours of doing some research to find out what I was looking at an NO TH-cam video dealt with this, so I had to figure it out on my own.
I found out about the fluid the hard way lol Nothing like taking some tranny fluid to the face when you pull out the axle. Glad I had my eye protection on :)
So for a baby driveway mechanic like me, with limited arm strength (I’m a gal with hand/arm occupational damage to nerves) and a single parent budget, what are some good assistive tools you can recommend to supplement my weaknesses? I can do basics on my 05 Focus and 03 Windstar and want to safely expand my skills so I can relieve my mechanic brother-in-law from having to bail me out all the time. I don’t have a garage or access to a lift, I work curbside at home or in my parents driveway. Many thanks for anyone who can offer ideas, keeping myself out of debt!
You mention near the begining a reason to be careful with the hammer on the lower control arm is danger to the rubber on the axle. Why would one need to worry about that if they are changing it out?
I know this is quite a old video but do y’all have any tips to remove a stuck one ? After soaking the cv axle and I even used a air hammer and Multiple other things and I can not get the axle to free up from the hub ! I wish it came out as easy as y’all’s😢😢😢
My 2006 focus wagon does not have a carrier bearing bracket as shown in this video, it’s one solid piece of cast metal with no bolts to remove. I’m reluctant to remove it and find out the bearing is a different size. Is this specific to the wagons? I’m not sure why this would be the case.
You did that on purpose!! trans. oil bath , good thing your not a mouth breather, LoL When I was a teenager I crawled under to a lower radiator hose with my face to get a good grip and yank off the hose with all my might! The radiator emptied out all over my face. Kind of a sweet syrupie texture. Good on waffles or crepes! Do you also rent that balljoint seperator tool like Auto Zone and the others?
+MB ST Thanks for checking us out! We didn't flush the transmission, we just added more to replace the fluid that came out when pulling the old axle out.
Ford did a study on lubing lug nuts and concluded the extra fiction on some critical parts keeps the parts from loosening up! careful with the anti seize even on spark plugs, research first.
Good help for a way to save $$$. Except for the Fordulously expensive manual transmission fluid. Apparently the dinosaur blood used is rare and costly. Two quarts from Amazon Prime was about $65.00 US. A damn shame it spills out when you pull the inner axle shaft. But unavoidable. 😢😢😢
Normally, you have to add just a little bit of trans fluid to make up what leaked out when the axle is removed. All cars are different so maybe just a bit comes out or a lot comes out, depends.
+Ranger1 We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
My axle popped out while driving had it fixed by Firestone the one I did was fine but there’s popped out while driving literally less that a quarter mile up the road why is that.
+Christian MacKenzie We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Probably didn't push the axle in far enough into the transmission. There is a C clip that will automatically expand and hold the axle into place once it's far enough into the transmission. It should make a faint "click" sound. Most likely that is what happened. But like the pro says, they need to physically examine the part to see what happened for sure.
Correct. The passenger side CV axle does not have the "c clip" retainer inside the trans. So once you unbolt the carrier bearing bracket, it just pulls right out. Easy peasy.
Looks Easy any regular Man with Tools..skill etc .. Could Do it, but if you're Still Figuring Out how To change A Tire Or Check oil...go Ride The Bus...lol

Break the axle nut on the ground with the wheel still on, then jack it up to remove, simple.

How do?? Doing mine right now
Exactly. Thank you I’m sitting looking and things aren’t lining up.
Best part is the commentary. New word alert "Bonk", "skoach", "veerhickle"
Common words in England. It made me smile.

Again love these videos and very much appreciate it.. but why does he call it a veerhicle? Gets me every time
I replaced mine with these cv shafts from you guys. My abs and traction lights are on now. Can feel pulsing when braking. Any ideas?

Do you have a 08-09 automatic transmission swap video??
Lenny, you didn't mention the torque specs on those two 13mm nuts that hold the bracket for the carrier bearing.
Can you do an output axle seal on this same car it would be greatly appreciated thank you
great video what is the name of the air gun you are using, ty.

How much difference is this vs the SVT focus? I have to do both left and right axles.
I broke the pinch bolt when I was removing the nut. I tried to get it out with a prick punch but will not move. Any advice?
Hi, do you deliver in South africa 🇿🇦 if yes how so because i am struggling to make an order
Is there a difference between driver side and passenger side axles like is the passenger side manual and the driver side axle automatic
That is a realy good video
Thankyou very much
+Filiberto vargas Thank you for your feedback!
Is there a link for the pickle fork used? Mine is way too fat to get between the trans and the area the lower control arm connects to.
You did that on purpose!! trans. oil bath , good thing your not a mouth breather, LoL

Thank you Sir. I really appreciate this
Could I use an impact put on that axle but u reckon?
I have the one piece bracket but I can’t get it out of the old axle and I can’t find it anywhere to buy it
which tool you use to push the axle out from the transmition ?
Do you flush the transmission oil completely? Or just add some ?
+MB ST Thanks for checking us out! We didn't flush the transmission, we just added more to replace the fluid that came out when pulling the old axle out.
@@1AAuto thanks!
Excellent vid. Bonk. Bonk.
What size was the torx bit for the pinch bolt?
Little anti-seize on the back of the rim helps when you need to get the tire off again.
Ford did a study on lubing lug nuts and concluded the extra fiction on some critical parts keeps the parts from loosening up! careful with the anti seize even on spark plugs, research first.
I always replaced the output shaft seal the sametime.
Shouldn’t need the air hammer. Those babies pull right out nice and easy. Great video as always though.

Yeah, that halps a LOT!
My cv barrel came out while replacing lower control arms and tried to put it back in place but wouldn’t stay. Any ideas why anybody?
Your brake rotors are on backwards.
Drill and slotted rotors are directional

wow so amazing you make so easy thanks
+Daniel S Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Do you have to get a front end alignment after this?
It should be all the same if everything was put back the same, if you put new tie rod ends on and such then it would be advisable to get an alignment.
I got a 06 and it don’t look like that at the bearing and I can find one that fits
Did you have to add trans fluid
Normally, you have to add just a little bit of trans fluid to make up what leaked out when the axle is removed. All cars are different so maybe just a bit comes out or a lot comes out, depends.
Is the manual transmission replacement the same?

What is the torque spec for the 2 13 mm
Dude is faster than a nascar pitstop
Are the CV axles that 1AAuto sells remanufactured or are they all new parts?
+L.A. Commander 1A Auto just sells new items, nothing as being remanufactured.
@@1AAuto Thanks!
Can a bad axle make it feel like your struts are bad?
Yes, it could
In 6:14 what is the name of poll piece attached to car left to tool in video?? that snapped off as shown in video
+Yahdiah Crutcher Are you referring to the tie rod?
Great vid

I replaced my seal while down that far. Its foolish not to. Also good and tight is not a torque spec on the carrier bearing strap...
Yo, what seal? And do you have a part number? Sorry I'm about to do this
Goodntite is one word
how much will cost you if u want to do it in a car shop?
The local shop I know down the street charges $160 for the labor to do this. Price for the part varies depending on quality.
(changes axel) drilled and slotted rotors have entered the battle

Firestone knows tires only, hee hee

Who gets this completely rebuilt Focus veerhicle?
Congratualtions to the owner of the focus on the worst-looking friggin rims in the world :D
Never ever dbl click a torque wrench basic 101.
Man i didnt need an air chisel, the thing just came right out.
I really hope mine does, there's a big wobble under acceleration so maybe mine is already coming loose.
Correct. The passenger side CV axle does not have the "c clip" retainer inside the trans. So once you unbolt the carrier bearing bracket, it just pulls right out. Easy peasy.
what about the fluid?
