April, what's so cool about your videos is seeing how much joy you get from each and every project. That little dance you do followed by that big bright smile and laugh, is always awesome to see. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride. You're very much appreciated!👍🏾
Don’t forget to insulate around the bookshelves as a far amount of heat will be transferred through the bookshelves if they’re mounted into the roof space. We have built in shelves upstairs and found this.
That’s a great way to build and install shelves! I especially like your stud cavities. They look great and are an ingenious way you can increase your storage area with some very nice trim! Thanks for sharing this one April. Hope you’re having a great day and please keep on building!
Very cool install! Love the explanation on the stud seperations between the 3 boxes. I'm tired right now and the how you're doing that wasn't clicking for a second until you covered it. I totally get the happy dance over it! That was me a couple years ago when I built my grandsons crib!! Came out amazing and I was patting myself on the back and didn't need anyone to tell my it was awesome! Lol.
Good morning, April! I love this idea. I hate knowing there is wasted space, so this is the perfect remedy. I did this in a few rooms of our old home. I haven't yet done it here, even though we've been here over 20 years. SO MANY projects to finish. Everything in it's time, I guess. Thanks so much for posting this awesome project. Have a great week. God bless.
I love those fits. I helped a buddy of mine build an island for his kitchen. He framed out the spot on the floor with 2x4s. When we carried the island up and set it on the frame is just slowly slid in to place making this amazing "tttttthuck" noise.
As someone with quite a severe fear of heights (I get dizzy when I stand on a piece of paper) seeing no railing and you walking by the edge so casually I get tingles down my spine. Will you add railing eventually or will it stay like this? Love your videos, long time subscriber. Keep up the good work April!
Yes, the glass railing was being custom built so took a bit to arrive but that install video will be out soon. When up there, we are extremely situational aware so no danger in falling. Thanks for watching.
Nice ideas here. I have a traditional colonial house with a typical staircase leading to the second floor. The area/ceiling space above the stairs, that is also a boxed-in wall cavity next to my 3rd bedroom/office is just dead space because the builders found it easier to leave as-is. I bet many colonials like this have the same dead space above the stairs. I plan to open that odd dead space in the 3rd bedroom and use it for a new closet. It can't be a floor to ceiling closet because the bottom is angled and part of the staircase ceiling structure, so an off the floor built-in would be perfect. My brother did the same for my parent's house... made a nice ~3'Wx4'Hx4'D nook with a couple shelves for long term storage items... yes, 4+ feet deep!
Awesome job April n Jake, sure looking great around there. Lots of great information and show of skills always worth watching. Stay safe and keep up the fun. Fred.
Awesome design. Guess you could make a partial inset bookcase and flank it with narrow shelved convential bookcases using the top as a knick knack shelf If you put it in a standard room wall - if that makes sense.
April, great video as usual. Informative and entertaining. I watch all your videos, even if I don't plan a project like that, because it inspires other ideas. Can you tell me which Stud-Finder you use?
You need to figure out if your studs are 16" or 24" on center. Or, if you live in an older, crazily-built house, you need to find the studs (or at least get close), cut the hole(s) in the wall(s) first, then measure the spacing. LOL I installed a pre-built in-wall ironing board cabinet some years ago, that was designed for 16" on center stud placement. I think the 2 studs I had to put it in between were about 15" on center, or some weird measurement. Too tight at any rate. I ended up having to cut out one stud, put in a new one the right distance from the other that I'd left in place (yes, I made sure it's plumb), & add the blocking in between the new & original studs to support the cabinet. As I said, this house is all sorts of weird construction. We even have a random stair stringer fastened to the upper (inside) part of the back wall of our garage. WTH??? Anyway, thank you for sharing your process & progress, April. I always love watching your videos & your creativity. Hope you have an awesome day! :)
Are you worried about the amount of weight that the brad nails into the studs can hold? I'd probably support the bottom with a 2x4, or at least run something heftier like a countersunk screw into the sides. Love the video, lots of good ideas for maximizing space here
Great series. Love the loft and all storage ideas. Just one note: in most parts of the world, buildings are actually built solid and this is no (easy) option.
Great video but marking that wood with a stanley knife like you did at 7:57, is not a good example of safe practise, since you applying force when you slip the knife it would be in your lower arm
I hate to be critical but the bottom and top pieces of a cabinet should lay between the two veritical sides, not the vertical sides resting on the bottom and top. The way you made the cabinet the bottom shelf does not have any sheer strength. Other than that, great job and way to use the wall space.
??? I'm 49 & I still find it neat. I'm sure I'd find it neat if I were pushing 70. Not something I'd want to do myself even now, but I still appreciate April's designs & enthusiasm. Just saying. :)
"If you want a bookshelf and outside of the wall is not an option, inside the wall is always an option" Well, let me tell you about the buildings we build here in the EU, everything is concrete / bricks 🤣 Good luck cutting holes there. But yea, really cool idea for the types of house you live in though!
Lock in your rate now at bit.ly/AprilWilkerson. Thanks to Ethos for sponsoring this video!
I couldn't find the playlist for projects with hidden compartments. Can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks

I’ve had two friends fall from a height like that. Every video I’m nervous someone will step off the edge. I hope to see you put up railings soon!
Yes, that video showing railing install is coming soon. We are very situational aware when up there. Thanks for watching.
I get the "clenchies" too when watching- I look forward to seeing the rails in place! ✔✔

Yes! It's an amazing feeling when things come together perfectly. Thanks for Sharing and for watching.
While built in’s can be intimidating, thanks for showing that built in’s are actually fairly easy! Awesome Job April! 😃😊🤩
Thanks so much!
I ❤ when you complete a task your joy is contagious 😊😊😊
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy my Channel. Thanks for watching.

I like built in shelves in any room. I think it adds a classic look to a room. While also providing more storage and beauty to a space! 👏😃👍

The loft is looking awesome. Just this nice chill happy spot to get away from everything.
Exactly! I just love it. Glad you are enjoying the Series. Thanks for watching.
Freakin' awesome, indeed! I don't have a need to make something like this, yet, but I loved the moment when it fit into place, too!
Thank you very much! Yes, that was so cool. Thanks for watching.

How does Jacob get to the attic? Does he use a "Jacob's Ladder"? 🤣🤣
Good one! Thanks for watching.
That turned out really neat April! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍😎JP
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson Your very welcome April! and Thanks! Have a wonderful week😎
Glad your studs in the wall were plumb. I have seen way too many houses where they are not. That would have been a big wah wah moment.
Another good one April. Thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching!
You always inspire me. Now i want to make holes in my walls. Unfortunately they are 1 1/2 inch deep 😅.
Practical video for an impressive outcome. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
DANG YOU Now you gave me work to do ! But it is something I should of have thought of. TAKE CARE and STAY WELL
Thanks! I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
I have got to come up with a setup to create bookshelf dadoes like that.

Hey! You read Clive Cussler! I have over 30 of his books and I don't read them - I consume them like a hungry teenager eats a hot tasty pizza 😂
So easy, just cnc everything and voila... you're done.
I happen to have one so I use the CNC but as I'm always saying, you can do it with lesser tools, it just takes longer. Thanks for watching.
8:02 What was that creeping along the floor 😱
Awesome April! 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you! And thanks for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson You are a very welcome April! I had seen so many videos that I always enjoyed it.
I find it easier to cut the angle first and then measure the square side to make the cut
Thanks April!
looks so cool😃👍🏾
