    3:13 you can just use a decimate modifier with the coplanar setting, it would fix all of the faces

    In reverse, this interestingly also shows that people put up buildings in a random uncoordinated way in big cities.

    • @lanewallace.
      @lanewallace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It depends on what kind of brand of blender you get honestly. Like some blenders can definitely be considered junk, but there are a lot of options to choose from that will work much better.

    My displacement is not coming out like yours, when I apply the dispacement to the subdivided plane ..the clouds come out more like pointed mountains rather than being flat on top despite the settings I applied according to your tutorial

    I couldn't get the blocky bits to appear when applying the displace modifier. Instead they came out more like pyramids. Suggestions?

    • @creatingwithlove
      @creatingwithlove ปีที่แล้ว

      For anyone who may read this comment, something I found that did give me the blocky textures like he's getting is to go back into the displacement modifier, turn the coordinates from local to uv, crank the strength up to 6.4 and the midievel to 0.5. Then go back and turn the cell noise down to 0.04 to give it a more city-like feel. I have my dimensions set at x = 100m, y = 100m, z = 20m.

    Ihaven't seen the whole video yet, but I just wanted to point ot that your amazing openign shot won't look jerky if you use 50% motion blur.

      Thank you for the tip :)

    • @kentjensen4504

      @@lanewallace. My pleasure. I'll give you a technical explanation, incase you're interested. My apologies if you already know this, but this may still be useful for others here.
      In the early days of cinema, filmmakers discovered that if the shutter that opens and closes to create each frame of film, usually 24 per second, is open half the time and shut half the time, then motion would get a blur that for the audience looks natural and smooth, i.e. it won't draw attention to itself.
      If the shutter was open a lot longer you get light streaks and a blurry, dreamy look, which is something you sometimes see in scenes if a person has been drugged and doesn't know where he is or what is going on. Actually, if you're really drunk, it feels a bit like your eyes have very long shutter speed. If the shutter is open much shorter, you get almost no motion blur and jerky movement, something that can be used creatively, like in the battle scenes in Saving Private Ryan.
      You don't have to be exactly 50% for it to look natural. Anything from 40% to 60% will look natural, and then you can deviate from that either way if you have creative reasons to do so.
      Important note: if 3D elements are superimposed onto live footage, for special effects, the 3D elements must have the same motion blur as the live footage, so the cinematographer must make a note if he deviated from the 50% so that the 3D creator can create matching SFX footage.

    • @lanewallace.
      @lanewallace.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is really great information. I did know about film and the shutter and everything, but did not ever consider matching that in 3D animation. So I will definitely remember this and use it :)
