- During this month's meeting, a packed house watched as Molly Cason finally got the keys to her office building more than four months after swearing in as the Village of College Corner's mayor.
The father and daughter definitely needs to be investigated further!
Call the feds. A town this small should have no secrets, let alone tyrants.
2024 Government
And are the Feds any better?
Avoid getting the feds involved.
I think the state government is good for the job. Having a state rep and the county auditor shows both the state and county are watching.
State audit
the same people that took 4 years to say that weed is just as dangerous as ketamine and steroids?
If they won't let the mayor see fiscal records, it's time for an audit
This isn't a 'big win' - this is a grudging step forward. Until she has the keys to document storage, the Mayor is still locked out of anything actually important. They've had months to hide any evidence of wrongdoing, and even now are *still* stonewalling. The window to catch this 'fiscal officer' and his daughter in the act is shrinking. The auditor needs to put a freeze on this village's finances until a complete audit is done and - if necessary (and they almost certainly are) - criminal charges are filed.
They won't hand over those keys until they can destroy the evidence. She should have a locksmith come out and change all of the locks.
Let's go crack the case
Why can't they just drill out the locks?
> The window to catch this 'fiscal officer' and his daughter in the act is shrinking
They can still go to the bank to get all the transaction records. This is how they catch internal accounting thieves who cook the books. Then, they will file embezzlement charges, and the perp will go to jail. Just let it play out. It may take another 3-4 years, but the process has started.
The auditor being there means it's probably too late for the accused anyway.
The father and daughter act like this is their personal property. It’s not. It belongs to the residents you were supposed to be serving.
now fire that father-daughter team
Well we’ve had four months to get rid of anything embarrassing or actionable. Give her the keys
Right? They probably looked through everything in there to remove anything incriminating, or to make false books so they don't get in trouble..
No matter what happens, it looks very suspicious..
If I were the new mayor, I'd just call a locksmith.
Fr lmao you’re the mayor
My thoughts exactly!
She could have, but it was the blatant disregard for the rules of law that she was fighting. Having her locked out only helped more people see the basic problem, without needing to understand the accounting side of the embezzlement.
Ever hear the expression that 'nobody's above the Law'?
Fire department has pry bars
Fire the fiscal officer immediately.
I say keep her and her years of experience. Find the average pay for a city that size and add a little extra for 20 years work. That way they are getting paid fair wages and can't say how unfair it is.
@@countbenjamin1442 no why would you want to keep paying corrupt people? You seem sketchy
@@growinglifeorganic940 no fr, got that "im not a bad guy....but" kinda vibes lol
@@countbenjamin1442 You must be out of your mind. There isn't no way in hell that the village should keep her. There are plenty of people capable of doing her job right there in the village.
@@countbenjamin1442 73K for 120 days of work each year. That comes out to 158K if they actually worked 52 weeks a year. Pretty good pay for a tiny town. Sounds like Daddy and daughter have been ripping off the town, and are now trying to keep from going to jail where they belong.
That contract needs to be null and void. Don't care how long she has "worked" there. Time for all old party members to be moving along.
Mmmm
Amazing how once the news gets involved... this father and daughter give the mayor the keys. I'll bet you there is all kinds of crap that is going to come out of this town now.
If it wasn't for your reporting this wouldn't have happened. So thank you!!
Right. I'm really glad they did the update too.
Exactly, it took the news to get something done! Way to go WCPO!
Local news is still a good source for this kind of journalism
According to Ohio Laws & Administrative Rules Section 733.262, the village fiscal officer may be removed without cause either by the mayor with the consent of a majority of the members of the village legislative authority or by a three-fourths vote of the village legislative authority with or without the consent of the mayor.
Isn't it in Indiana?
This case is in Indiana. But there is likely a similar law
So refreshing to see real reporters protecting the public, keep it up!!!
They had plenty of time to remove and destroy all of the incriminating evidence of their many, many crimes
120 sick days.
No office hours.
CALLING THE FEDS
KEEP IT GOING!!!!! This is crazy good reporting for such a small location. This journalist doesn't play! I love her!!!
if the town wants to hire me I'll get into that records room, guaranteed
I have been falling this from Belgium. The internet is amazing thing.
Thank you for your commitment to journalism!
So why can’t she have the key to office with records? What are they hiding? 👀👀
Thanks for actually following up, so many news outlets post an initial story then never revisit.
Definitely a investigating is needed
That father/daughter duo were busy covering up crimes and removing evidence.
That key dont even get into the door where the records are stored
Bet someone empties that Office one night pretty soon
I was thinking fire but either way...
Hopefully the state police are monitoring it or something.
Confiscate their office computers ASAP.
Please keep us updated. As the Mayor why wouldn’t she immediately call a locksmith to gain access to that locked office?
Now do an audit. You will be amazed at what you find.
Daddy Administrator looks pissed! HAHA!
I'm not even from the US and I'm so invested in this story .
120 sick days a year? That’s 1/3 of the year for being just sick.. how many vacation days are we talking about?
This is what investigative journalism is about. Good job
Thank you for covering this story! I don't live there, but I care about what's happening.
I'm in Australia and I want them to keep following up I want to know what that fiscal officer is up to... Audit 👏👏👏Audit 👏👏👏Audit👏👏👏
@@nalanimulcahy8451 wow, all the way around the world. Cheers 🍻 mate
Full investigation and charges against any fraud.
There needs to be some investigations in that village.
FOLLOW every PENNY
Great story. Watching from California.
I am one of many nation wide now watching this chapter unfold
Thank you for your continuing coverage of this story.
Should press charges for contempt
That means her term starts TODAY. And they’re gonna have to move their elections 4 months later to allow her to serve a full term.
They should! Or give her an additional eight months instead of an additional four, just to give her more time to help clean up the mess!
@@pvtbuddie The town should just keep voting this lady in to make sure that they break this father-daughter curse over their town.
This happens all the time in these small towns. You have typical good old boy politics. No transparency.
They'll find that all the $ is gone
The sad part is that even in small towns, there is unspeakable greed. It looks like corruption exists at all levels.
This is utterly insane.
Ooh, state rep involved. Now we're getting somewhere.
The paper shredder was running on overtime
Thanks for following up! A good auditor should be able to sift through the discrepancies.
Someone needs to get the FBI involve to investigation
Now get a forensic audit done on the administrator and his daughter. Bust open the locked door then find out what's been pilfered from the county.
I would have the town building checked to be sure it is safe and up to codes so there is not any suspicious or convenient fires.
If I was the news, I would be checking on the council members and the corruption they are trying to hide, and the police department to
It looks like that village needs an end-to-end audit and some criminal charges for these shady people doing dirty deeds with village money
You rock!!
A small town in corruption. Just one of many in the USA.
Yeah I am so happy for the mayor's small victory. The feds should be called in and a MAJOR audit be done. The administration person should be fired as well as her father A small village should not be held hostage like this.
Hiding the expense reports and bills is even more suspicious.
Now, bring in a state auditor
Please keep reporting on this story, WCPO. No one should be able to keep the town's elected officials from inspecting the town's financial documents.
They cleaned everything out and gave her an optical win.
The Village administrator needs removed, the Fiscal Admin and so does everyone else there. Clean house
Now, you need to audit!!!
The mayor needs to contact "The Lockpicking Lawyer." Building entry and show cause order in one package!
First thing she needs to do is audit the previous mayors.
recently alot of corruption in small towns has been uncovered and it is shocking just how much money and destruction that a few people acting out of line can cost a town of 2-6000 people can get millions of dollars extracted out of it year after year. makes you wonder what percentage of your overall tax dollars is lost to corruption nationally. its almost certainly a lot more than anyone would of guessed
Way to go! Keep up the good work!
Next, keys to the storage of documents😂
Document? Oh, they were accidentally destroyed!
Apparently Ohio has no locksmiths.
The 10 sick days per month: Use, or lose? Accumulate? Payout for unused days?
It sounds as if the State needs to send in an auditor team to review that villages books. The woman they mentioned is effectively being paid $75/hour. That village does not seem affluent enough to justify that wage.
I'd get a court order to produce the records and if they didn't comply .... A warant for arrest.
Most places, the mayor and board can terminate agreements/contracts. Hopefully she does that asap.
Why can't the mayor simply break into the records room?
Get a forensic accountant in there!
Both of these thieves need to go to jail, and provide compensation back to the village for there thefts. The stupidity of such behavior is really profound. The real likelihood of hiding something like this in a tiny village is really vanishingly small. The moment they decided to grift the town, they were going get caught. Such arrogant greedy behavior needs to be severely punished. I wonder how town took care of this stuff back in the 1800's...
The state auditor should investigate. That’s what their job is.
Call the Feds!!!!!!!
The administrator is stealing . You can see his face as he handed the key over. "Damn, I am so screwed"
She got the key because the right agencies are finally looking into this and more
you can tell who's in on it by who looks grumpy af and who's clapping
who agreed to that contract,... get that question answered
There are at least two more small towns going through this, that I know of.
Look at dolton Illinois if you want to know where this going.
Those records have been accidentally misplaced in a paper shredder by now.
I don't know what it's is but it needs to be uncovered. Sounds alot like show me the man I'll find the crime.
Uncover.... definitely
72,000 a year for working 126 days per year. Not if I'm the mayor😂
Probably preaches about how lazy poor people are, and how others need to work hard.
time for an audit
That whole town needs to be investigated, and those records need to be surrendered.
The Father and the Daughter know they're both going to jail.
They just needed time to cover up their crimes.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire!
Good Reporting; how many other “little” towns are being run this way…. 🤷🏻♂️
Those two need to the go. They both need to be in prison.
Surprised she just didn't call a locksmith or have the door removed once she learned she would not be getting the keys without a fight.
Mayor needs to hire a locksmith
Stay on the story until the financial records are available to the mayor and the public.
I dont know how the village is constituted, but i would have thought there would be facility for recall or oversight, which could be easily executed in a village of 400. And yes, i would have got in locksmiths and lawyers earlier in the process.
How is this legal? They clearly are hiding corruption, or they wouldn't be doing this. If they ever go e access, it will be after things have been covered up or not at all.
had to give the crooks time to clean up.
Those offshore accounts just got further off shored 😮
