I worked in an aquarium store throughout college and I can tell you that octopuses can distinguish people by sight. One of the guys was a rough tank cleaner but I was fascinated by the octopus, hand feeding it and otherwise interacting with it.
When the other guy came to the tank to clean or feed, the octopus hid but when I came it would come to the front of the tank to interact with me.

I wonder if it was about the photo since they mentioned the objects were put there by divers, so I imagine divers visit there.

@@Wizz15 That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm not so sure if it has anything to do with thinking the person might be lost, but maybe the octopus just saw a human, had seen other humans erecting that thing, and perhaps thought that's where this human it found belonged.

The main point of life is to reproduce from a biological standpoint- so what is the point of members of society who cannot do this anymore? What do they provide? Support, wisdom, leadership, expertise, skills, knowledge/educational preservation, the truth, etc. our elders are around for a reason and the same with elephants and whales. Something needs to be done and if you need something to take your mind off your problems, use games, art and other distractions that won't hurt others and themselves.
