  • On 27 March 1963 the police were called to Cobden Street, Salford where they found Kathleen Parkinson suffering from stab wounds in the entrance to the premises of Snowden & Bridges at 9.24am. the police called an ambulance and then went to Laundry Street near the steps of Cock Robin Bridge where they saw Dalip Kumar lying on the footpath near the bridge.
Kathleen Parkinson soon died and a post mortem examination was carried out on the same day at 1.45pm which revealed that she had six knife wounds. the cause of death was determined to be haemorrhage and air embolism from stab wounds.

Great video Anthony! This is a sad but all too familiar story, well at least here in the states it is. I think what is especially terrible, apart from her actual murder, is how justice was never really served. His parents were able to hire the best lawyers their money could buy and how the media portrayed Kathleen didn't help her image. No wonder her father became a recluse, he probably was living with an overwhelming feeling of loss and powerless. Loss for losing his wife, then the murder of his daughter, and powerless his daughters killer was able to walk away. Nowadays Dalip would be considered a stalker and there are new laws to protect women from his kind, still I am sure money and media play a big part in cases like this. What I think is very sad is how you tried to locate her gravesite with no luck, which says to me there should have been better information of exactly where it was. You would hope there are still some family members alive today who remember her and would tend to her grave, but It's almost as if time has erased the memory of Kathleen. I think it's a noble cause you trying to locate her gravesite and lay some flowers for her, hopefully one day you will be able to find it. Cheers mate this was a good one!

Ant, this is a *wonderful* video - not only because you finally do justice to Kathleen's story, but also because of your reaction - as a young man - to this behaviour being unacceptable 💗
Sadly, this stalking behaviour is *not* only not a thing of the past, it's a behavior the law is still unable to protect its victims from. Injunctions, Restraining Orders, do not work. I was a victim of it from a Serial Stalker, known to Police, who had victims before me and also after me. He was 'just-a-man-at-the-office', I didn't even know him other than polite exchanges passing in corridors. But with each of his victims he created a fiction in his head that he believed. His previous victim told me the *very first time* she ever spoke to him when she challenged him for following her, he replied 'it's ok, we don't have to get married straight away'. I was fortunate in that a Police Detective (*who came to interview him at our place of work following the murder of a woman!) informally kept in touch/advised me. I left the job and disappeared after two things happened: (1) the Detective said I had severely worried him after saying "but when he attacks me, then the Police will be able to arrest him"; as he said, my brain had already accepted this was an event that was going to happen; (2) after HR had been 'fairly' good over the issue but were getting to the stage where they were potentially going to have to fire him for failing to comply with any instructions, an HR person told me '... but he also has the right to come to work unmolested'. This was at a stage I'd had to approach Police Officers in the street to help me on multiple occasions. Those two events told me no-one was going to protect me except myself. This is why I get *INFURIATED* by the current management of 'mental health': mental health issues are extremely tragic, but unfortunately our current policies (a) provide little/no support for people with issues, (b) alleviate them of all personal responsibility. Mental health issues can only be managed if someone accepts they have a problem; current strategies alleviate people of that responsibility, and push all responsibility onto the people around them to manage ... sometimes with fatal consequences. A stark example of where the system lets people down is the term 'I'm a Functioning Alcoholic' is now an acceptable, passive term ... contrasted with 'there is no Alcoholic who is not violent' as described by Gavin de Becker in his book 'The Gift of Fear' - a man who took the alcoholic traumas of his childhood to become a professional Behaviourist who advises the US Govt on the behaviours of Stalkers, Shooters, and Terrorists.
Men are also a victim of this type of stalking behaviour, but it is predominantly women. You have done an amazing job in highlighting what the outcomes can be with Kathleen's story. What I would ask is that if *any* men see these types of intimidatory, stalking behaviours in their friends/colleagues please talk to them. *Frightening* organisations - like Incel - exist online which tell men women do not have the right to say 'No' to them. This is completely wrong and unacceptable - we are equals and deserving of equal respect. But if men pick this up and are active about it being unacceptable behaviour within their peer groups, maybe things change. Because Kathleen's fate can be the end result otherwise. I read a degree paper from a Policeman recently, commenting on the bomber in the taxi at Liverpool Maternity Hospital - the current thinking is that he wasn't part of a Terrorist network, but part of a group like Incel; that he believed no woman had the right to refuse him and because they did that was going to be their punishment. Fortunately he failed. You've raised an *incredibly* important hidden issue, Ant, and if men start to talk about it amongst their peers/friends so that it becomes unacceptable then maybe the risk of becoming the next 'Kathleen' reduces. Thank you for a superb piece of work ... and RIP Kathleen 💕

I totally agree with you. Justice was not served. Also I believe his mind set was that if he could not have her no other man would. This is a case of obsession and jealousy. He obviously planned this got the knife in advance. She rejected him and he killed her because of it. Horrific and so very tragic. Feel so bad for her dad as well. In this case money did talk, it talked him right out of jail. He should of been charged at the very least with second degree murder, but he was guilty of first degree. I pray you find her gave to place your flowers upon. So very kind of you. Love the gentle way you told this story. Thank you so very much.
