I have ocassionally seen plastic, like for covering a crock to ferment, bottle lids that seal, airlock in the beer making, gloves for washing wool (though that really isn't necessary, it can be easier) some clothes definitely look synthetic, and of course the boots. I too live very simply and close to the land and also use plastic for a few crucial things where it is just really helpful. Resuse of course.

I don't know why this is one of my top favorites out of all her videos...but every time I watch it I am amazed not only at the beauty of each scene, but also that you can tell she worked all day and into the night harvesting, grating and washing all those sweet potatoes. She must have been so exhausted that night.
And didn't get to enjoy it till the next day to boot... I was wondering why so much potatoes, but she was collecting the starch to make flour for the noodles.
Just my thought, but i think we are living a very stressful life nowadays that watching someone living peacefully is very appealing and relaxing at the same time. Kudos to this girl, made me realized that true happiness does not come from worldly things like money and fame, but to be able to live simply and peacefully you can feel a sense of fullfilment that no wealth can buy😊
Sj Sendo How you know this girl is content with poverty. Obviously not because she has an online store. Are you blind? That girl works hard and some chores she’s doing it all day and then she gets up early and start working again. There’s nothing relaxing in working your ass off. Matter of fact it’s stressful.

it's common in china about 30 years ago. most of women in rural areas in china like her. that's why most of us respect my mother for her effort to rise me up with hard work.

I watch this beautiful young lady in awe. The look of peace and tranquility on her face could stop wars. The land she lives on must be Eden. I've seen just about every fruit and vegetable I know, as well as fruits and vegetables I don't know. Chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, cows, pigs, fish, shrimp, honey, silkworms, mushrooms, berries, herbs, roots, spices, flowers, running streams and waterfalls... you name it, she has it there. It's paradise. I would die a happy man just to witness the harmony and peace of that life. Please, please continue making videos.

I remember helping my mother make sweet potato starch when I was a kid. She did everything from scratch, very much like this pretty lady. We dried the starch under the sun, on our rooftop. Now it’s easy for me to buy from the grocery, but nothing beats my mom’s. I have memories of this tucked neatly away in my heart’s pantry. Love you, Mama! 😊

Coming across this, seeing how the starch was made by hand, i felt the memories flooding back. I wish there was a way i can do this again with her one more time. I grew up in a similar region in China and ate similar food when I was a kid. Though I never made these things in her video by myself from the beginning to the end, I did participate in some steps as a little helper. I know how hard things could be, dirt, cold and tired. She did an excellent job not only in making these things but also in documenting the processing in such a beautiful way. Thumbs up!!!
Me too. Actually when I watch her video, A lot of memories come to mind. It’s very hard work and makes me missing my mom. My mom is a good cooker too. Good thing is that I will back to China and I can taste all the good dishes made by my mom.

I can't possibly be wasteful and still survive, but I wouldn't want to be if I could. Do your best, and if things still aren't great then at least you made an effort. We never know the effect our action can have, the world is undoubtebly better on some level when people care and make an effort. If not, you will never know if things could be better.

True. The green cooking shows you normally see are for people that have jobs/live in cities and want to cook in a way that doesn't impact the environment too much. But her way is more of a job with in of itself. Regardless it's amazing and peaceful to watch her
This girl is amazing . A credit to his grandparents specially to his late grandfather . He learned a lot from him . From tilling the soil , planting up to harvesting + carpentry .Cooking and preserving are great skills instilled in her mind .
she is an expert in vertical integration of food production....from planting and growing the food sources....then processing them into basic raw materials.....then curing, fermenting, drying them into handmade processed ingredients...finally cook them into delicious dishes.....wow...just wow....

This kind of life is possible when you eliminate property tax. Property tax is design to force you to always need to earn money to give it to the Government. Without property tax, you can be truly self-sufficient living off your land and producing your own goods.

Henrietta La Immortelle I mean.... a lot more sustainable than most people in the world. She uses just about what she needs, with low energy use, and doesn’t create much plastic pollution from things like packaging. She also uses food scraps for compost, and doesn’t waste much. So yeah she’s living sustainably.

TT Zhang Not just Chinese wisdom...50-60 years back growing up in Europe, everyone either feed food scraps to the chickens, pigs, etc and had a compost box in the back yard. There was very little waste. Then the modern, educated man became to proud to continue their ancestors old fashion ways and the lacy modern way followed. Hard work and chaffed hands were looked down on. The wisdom of the parents and elderly was laughed at. Now our landfills create us problems as a result, pesticides cause health problems and kill our food pollinators, soil erosions etc.

I love when we can see her spending time with her grandma. I think that`s so cute and her grandmother is very lucky to have such a grandchild. Her video endings are always unexpected to me since I don`t know anything about Chinese cuisine or that much about cooking. I did not expect her to make noodles in the end.
Me too. I also raised by grandma and have more connection to her than any other family. My Grandma passed many years ago and watch this make me feel so touch.
I really love the end where her grandmother reaches over to eat out of her bowl, and her immediate reaction is "oh yes here take more!" That's just so sweet.
If you really want to do these things, start with a small garden, containers even if space is limited. Learn to dry foods, learn to can foods, james first,t hey make great Christmas gifts too. Start making your own bread, start cooking your food from scratch rather than buying canned or boxed. Start small and work up!
You can tell this channel has provided her and her grandmother a better lifestyle and gave her the support to maintain her beauty. By the looks of her grandmother, who raised her with her grandfather before he died, the weathered skin of the grandmother tells you they had a rough life. What a brilliant young lady to know how to make money while caring for her grandmother. There’s more to the story than gorgeous, tranquil property and beautiful lady farming and cooking. She knows business. When you have to survive, you have to get creative. She is an inspiring and empowered woman!

Just my thought, but i think we are living a very stressful life nowadays that watching someone living peacefully is very appealing and relaxing at the same time. Kudos to this girl, made me realized that true happiness does not come from worldly things like money and fame, but to be able to live simply and peacefully you can feel a sense of fullfilment that no wealth can buy😊

Now it’s easy for me to buy from the grocery, but nothing beats my mom’s. I have memories of this tucked neatly away in my heart’s pantry. Love you, Mama! 😊

Though I never made these things in her video by myself from the beginning to the end, I did participate in some steps as a little helper. I know how hard things could be, dirt, cold and tired. She uses just about what she needs, with low energy use, and doesn’t create much plastic pollution from things like packaging. She also uses food scraps for compost, and doesn’t waste much. So yeah she’s living sustainably.

Not just Chinese wisdom...50-60 years back growing up in Europe, everyone either feed food scraps to the chickens, pigs, etc and had a compost box in the back yard. There was very little waste. Then the modern, educated man became to proud to continue their ancestors old fashion ways and the lacy modern way followed. Hard work and chaffed hands were looked down on. The wisdom of the parents and elderly was laughed at. Now our landfills create us problems as a result, pesticides cause health problems and kill our food pollinators, soil erosions etc.

I love when we can see her spending time with her grandma. I think that`s so cute and her grandmother is very lucky to have such a grandchild. Her video endings are always unexpected to me since I don`t know anything about Chinese cuisine or that much about cooking. I did not expect her to make noodles in the end.

Start making your own bread, start cooking your food from scratch rather than buying canned or boxed. Start small and work up!

By the looks of her grandmother, who raised her with her grandfather before he died, the weathered skin of the grandmother tells you they had a rough life. What a brilliant young lady to know how to make money while caring for her grandmother. There’s more to the story than gorgeous, tranquil property and beautiful lady farming and cooking. She knows business. When you have to survive, you have to get creative. She is an inspiring and empowered woman!
