Grew tired of eating rich food over the Chinese New Year, so I made some pickled mustard plant stem
To go with a pot of hot congee with crushed peanuts,
In keeping with the season, I made some plum blossom pastries.

李子柒 she was born in Sichuan province in July 6 of 1990, her mom left the poor family when she was very little; she was treated badly by her step-mother at six when her father away from home. Then she became an orphan living with her grand-parents when her father died in an accident. She became a middle school drop-off and left the countryside at the age of 14 due to the poor farmer. She went to Shenzhen since then and worked as waitress or a bar DJ for 8 years (300-3000 RMB/mo, about US $50-500/mo until her grandpa passed away in 2012, who is a chef for countryside-dinner-party, such as for wedding and funeral. That's why most of her videos are related to Chinese countryside cooking. Now her video income on TH-cam alone exceeds $200k/yr. BTW, any videos before June of 2017 were made by herself. Some videos on TH-cam were made by a three-person team (li, assistant and photographer).
In Chinese her name spelling as: li (lee), ziqi (zeechee, 'i' pronounced 'ee' most likely). I know her childhood story by other Chinese videos and interviews in recent two years. She doesn't have an English name, and this official youtube account (as her real name in Chinese) is operated by her affiliates in China (via VPN, I believe)
How does she get income from TH-cam? There is no TH-cam in China. Don't get me wrong, I am glad she is making money. She surely deserves to be compensated for her beautiful work.

When I was young, I also lived in the mountains with my grandparents. That was the best time of my whole life. My grandpa passed away in the spring of 2016 because of cancer. I left China and came to US in 2017 for further study. I always miss my grandparents and I felt lonely from time to time. I am really grateful to TH-cam to recommend this video channel to me. She is Snow White of China.
The first dish is made with chopped mustard stems that are usually heavy flavoured and salty and is extremely common to the Chinese as it is best paired with the bland congee in the morning. The plant is native to her region and most household make their own with their own unique recipes.
The purple pastry is called plum blossom pastry with main ingredients of flower, lard, sugar, and sometimes ground red beans.

You know, to see a snowy landscape like that and to experience at least one day of seeing snow falling is one of my dreams. I'm from a country where it never snows. We have miserably cold and wet winters, very windy and stormy but it never snows except for one day every saveral years on the coldest days of winter (although it's a very very thin layer which melts right away), so you could say we have only the ugly part of winter and none of the fun. I know for people who live in places where it snows it gets tedious after a while, but for someone who's never experienced snow like that, this video is a visual delight.

If you follow the seasoning in the video, it's gonna taste like spicy salty pickle, it's really crunchy. That's why Chinese people eat with porridge.
Do not forget the Sichuan pepers. That's very important. Also, it's not onion, it's spring onion. She used chilli oil, you can also use dried chilli flakes instead.
