Cari - I love watching your down-to-earth cooking vids, and your Mom is full of smiles and so cute.........I have gotten a lot of local cooking tips from you, as they are so authentic. All my best on your 2nd addition to the family
Oh my goodness! I'm 68 & my Mom died over 10 years ago. My Mom was in her 90's when she passed. My Mom, Uncles & older sisters all worked at the Canary trimming & packing Pineapples. They wore those white caps when working & they all smelled like Pineapples when they came home! Wow..thanks for the flash from the past & the great memories!
Congratulations on the 5000 sub. Your mom is so adorable. And yes keep up making home style local dishes. Your recipes is way back when and the best. As the years past things are added in nothing like the way back when ingredients the best. Authentic you can modified it but nothing beats the original. God bless you and your beautiful family. Aloha
Parker Ranch Locals....!! I absolutely love this, and I feel like we might be related.....Lol♥ Does Stanley Hisao Shioji ring a bell? How about my grandparents Minoru and Ayako Shioji.
Just stumbled across your channel. I’m from Maui and live in Vegas. Love how this is very comforting food and shows our local Hawaiian culture with family!
This is what Iʻm craving!!! Beef Stew and mac salad!!! Congratulations on 5K!!! I have to check out your Japan videos! Thats amazing you will be bring your show there! Wow!
HI Cari, Thank you for the vlog and congratulations on the 5000 subs. I just made beef stew last week. Just so comforting and ono. I think the recipe was very similar, I used some fresh tomatoes too from my garden and did it in a crock pot.
Congratulations on 5K!!🎉🎉The flour helps thicken the stew. Love a good beef stew. Browning the meat is key, imo Your mom mentioned hawaiian chili pepper..... we always had a bottle of chili pepper waste to add into our bowls
Which cut of beef do you use? My siter uses Chuck roast. In the past we have used "stew meat" labeled by super markets and costco. the meat gets tough and stringy.
Congratulations on 5K subs!!! Awesome channel!!! The food looked absolutely "Ono". Your Grandpa had such a unique Potato / Mac Salad, I never saw this recipe with pineapple in it. Must be a unique taste, so will definitely try just to taste it!!! I know it will Ono as well!!! Great video!!! Aloha!!!
Cari san, konnichiwa. Food looks so good. And your baby girl is very adorable. I made your grandpa's Hawaiian Mac/potato salad a few times for my family . They all loved it. Thanks to your grandpa!
Wow. Beef stew.. While watching you guys eating i am getting hungry. Your mom is so sweet, so calm, very soft spoken. I think when you said "there's no recipe" i am just like that, my kids asked me how to cook this and that i said sorry i do not have the exact measurements and doesnt have recipe its all about the ingredients inside the fridge. Eyeballing seasoning too, just like how your family cooks. I mean a good chef has no recipe. 😅😅😅 it's all mommy's love. I do love watching your videos with your parents. I wonder what your dad favorite food to cook for you guys while growing up. And I saw your dad took a kitchen towel and start drying the dishes. hehe. He is such a good sweet helper.. Maybe one day you can let your dad share his favorite food and show his cooking skills. Thank you. Congrats🎉 for reaching 5K subscriber.
I’ll ask my dad sometime… but he doesn’t usually cook. As a child though, I remember him mixing Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and mushroom soup together to make one soup! I thought it was delicious!
Congratulations on reaching 5,000 subscribers! My mom used to make beef stew without tomatoes or tomato sauce or paste, so that's how I make mine, but I add mushrooms and red wine. Your version looks good!
I loved my mom’s Hamburger Curry Stew. It was super popular in the 60’s and 70’s on the Big Island where I live now and grew up, I wonder if your grandpa made this for the family too? Can you do a video on this super ono dish?
Look so good I also add round onion and garlic in my stew. I discovered better than beef buillion I get it from Costco, no msg that adds to flavor. I’m pretty sure no msg the chicken version just as good. Oh and I add a little sugar supposed to cut out the bite of tomato sauce. But love having your mom on your videos. I’m pretty sure I saw one of your uncles at taniokas today. And congratulations on your five thousand subs. Thumbs up❤
We actually didn’t add in the bay leaf… didn’t need… but I don’t think it matters between the Dutch oven or stainless steel pot. It probably just depends on how long you cook it.
Your stew recipe is so close to my Mom's stew. Nothing like a good pot of stew! I love to see how your family casually walks back and forth behind you and your Mom. It can be done in a slow cooker and instant pot (still brown the meat for both versions) too. Fond family memories and passing it down to the next generation is what it is all about. 'Ohana no ka 'oi.
Haha thanks! My family still gotta do their thing even though we're filming. There's just too much going on in the house. Using a slow cooker and/or instant pot is a good idea. It will cut down on the prep time for sure (well at least the instant pot would).

Thank you!!! Agreed! So important to brown the meat!
Congratulations on reaching 5k followers. I always look forward to seeing your videos. Thank you for inviting us for your celebration dinner.
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed being a part of it!
Which cut of beef do you use? My siter uses Chuck roast. In the past we have used "stew meat" labeled by super markets and costco. the meat gets tough and stringy.
Honestly, we use whatever is on sale. Chuck roast is a good one! Tasty and not too fatty!
After browning da stew meat you gotta cook it long time. Minimum 45-60 minutes cause dey use the scraps. Dis before you add da veggies.
Aloha!!!
Yes, his mac salad is really special! It was actually one of my first videos on the channel that people really showed interest in! Such a good recipe!
Cari san, konnichiwa. Food looks so good. And your baby girl is very adorable. I made your grandpa's Hawaiian Mac/potato salad a few times for my family . They all loved it. Thanks to your grandpa!

Mrs. Taira is a true scientist. Measuring the salt and pepper is important for taste😁#favoritescienceteacher
Haha so true! Awww that's so sweet! I'll tell her! haha.
Hi Tricia, I do remember you!! Hope you are doing well, and so nice to hear from you! Take care!! 😊
Congratulations on reaching 5,000 subscribers! My mom used to make beef stew without tomatoes or tomato sauce or paste, so that's how I make mine, but I add mushrooms and red wine. Your version looks good!

Did u forget the bay leaf?
yes, possibly?

I wonder if your grandpa made this for the family too? Can you do a video on this super ono dish?
I will put that on our list! Let me see if my grandma has a recipe! and/or I'll ask my mom if she knows of this dish. Thanks for the suggestion!
It will taste even better tomorrow... if there is any left over.🤣🤣🤣
yep so true!

Oooh this sounds yummy too! My mom uses better than beef bullion once in awhile I think. And we love foods with no msg!
Is it better to make it in dutch oven pit over stainless steel? Did you add the bay leaf?
We actually didn’t add in the bay leaf… didn’t need… but I don’t think it matters between the Dutch oven or stainless steel pot. It probably just depends on how long you cook it.

Curious what age group your mom is in. I want to see if we are the same generation!
She’s in the baby boomer age group!
