Well spoken regarding being content with what you have. The younger generation could really learn a lot from the older generations. My father always likes to talk and make friends with anybody. My father also grew up in a plantation family in Kohala and told us stories of hard times growing up. Nice to see your family reminiscing.
I just watched your Pork Guisantes, I’m so impressed! I cook it the same way! I am 3rd generation Filipino. Kau kau Tin brings back memories too from my grandpa and parents. You have a beautiful family!!! 😊. Great cooking!
We are old "locals' born and raised in Kalihi but now living in Pennsylvania. The food brought back many good memories but best part is your ohana talking story. Mahalo
Cari you are so fortunate to be a part of your close knit family. Everyone has their own way of doing things, but as part of a family those differences can be set aside for the love of family. Especially in today’s world that is moving so fast. This is coming from a 70 year old. I was born and raised in Aiea. My dad had huge thick belt, back in the day.🤣Love and blessings to you and your family❤️🙏🌺❤️
Great video! Simple onolicious recipes. I grew up with shoyu mayonnaise on veggies and fried fish. The pimento gives the pork peas great flavor. Talented Ohana 🤙🤙
Love your ohana videos. Reminds me of my childhood when we would get together at different relatives hale. Miss those simple days. Many of my relatives have since passed but I have those treasured memories. Food is so important in bonding. So many of us can relate to your family. Mahalo for sharing ❤
Aloha from Hilo. Watched several of yr videos this week. Loved them all n warmed my ❤️ having the family cook together n njoy time together at the dinner table I think keeps the family close n connected. In this time that we live in,with busy schedules etc....dining together as a family at the dinner table may be less done. Thank You for sharing all yr yummy recipes n yr Beautiful family with us♡ pls keep the videos coming♡ Sweet Blessings to u all♡
Hi Sandra, Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging comments. I do hope that my videos encourage more families to come together over a pot of good food and enjoy each others company.
Ah great video of family stories that's the best. Back in the days we call that discipline. Now days kids call CPS on you. Love your meals. Beautiful family thank you for sharing.
My dad grew up on the Waialua plantation and would prepare the same dishes especially from the part one series. Thank you for bringing back my simple life childhood with my parents through your videos.
Cari your uncles are so mellow like your mom. Simple men but I think they are all professionals.. Love watching them cooking with so many memories they can share. Small gathering is life time memories.
Your family is very precious! Watching this & your part 1 video really brought back many great memories of our family as well … my mom was even a barber like your grandma, working so hard & selflessly. Grandpa worked in the plantation while grandma made & sold her own tofu throughout the camp. The simple food, especially the red shoyu sausage, shoyu/mayo dressing, Teri sticks, still made today. Keep these videos going!
Wow, such similarities! Thank you for sharing your memories about your family. It's always so special to read about how these videos stir up old memories and feelings of family within the TH-cam community!
My Grandma does the same use the pork fat instead of oil and pimento’s instead of bell peppers, I love how your family helps and you all cook and talk story..keep posting and I hope you get more subscribers,,🤙🏽
Bravo Everyone 👍🏼Yes Please😃more videos with your Ohana♥️Mahalo Kari Reid Ellie keep your traditions alive and well! Grandpa is smiling as always and Granma is smiling too! They started it♥️And. Kari & Reid you both have the vision too show and share your passion with others 🌟Mahalo & God’s Blessings 🙏🏽
Love these vids with your mom and uncles! Also… it brings back memories of these recipes growing up! Great idea to make these types of videos Start thinking of what you’ll be making when your keiki make videos of you 30 years from now, haha
Aloha, Cari ~ my parents were also plantation kids from O'ahu & Maui; Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese camps w/ kau kau tins. Mahalo for sharing your ohana stories and cooking. I loved your Aunty Claire's explanation of Grandma. Your vlogs are comforting and filled with much aloha, however, I felt your pain w/the fried chk oil...(I now use a tall pot and also shake the flour/spices in a ziplok all together to coat evenly)....awesome family, missing Gail's cooking too ~ aloha from 9th isle !....🤙
Hawaii Plantation Pork Guisantes (Pork and Peas), Teriyaki Sticks. The video has impressive details and is very realistic. Watched the video on April 8, 2023 very like. Thank you
These dishes you’re family made are so similar to what my grandparents and parents made which I’ve learned and plan to pass down to my children. Even the mayo mixed with shoyu on the nasubi (eggplant). I like to dip carrots, broccoli, green beans, and cauliflower in mayo and shoyu.
What a great combination cooking & talking story... I love having the whole family presenting mom & dad food memories while you guys were going up. Mahalo! Can't wait to see more family videos... God bless your Ohana..
I enjoyed the first and this second part please do more of these, love them you have a beautiful family. Maybe part three with siblings and aunties and maybe your young nieces and nephew. Thumbs up
Nice cooking show, and the most interesting part was hearing the older folks talk about what it was like for them when they were younger, passing on their parent's wisdom, and how they go about living life. Just a suggestion, it was hard to read some of the things written on screen. Black would have been a better choice than pink. Thanks for posting. This was one of the best things I've seen on TH-cam in months.
Thank you for the comment! And yes, I agree about the words on the screen... I should've chosen black. Thank you for the encouraging and supportive words!
@@Caritaira Thanks for responding. To tell you the truth I really didn't expect a response. Again, must be the influence of your parents which caused you to be so considerate and diligent. I know you must be very busy, especially with all the comments you are getting. I think you've got something special going on here. Good luck and, again, great show. I will be subscribing and looking forward to other great shows. ps: tell all the old timers their knowledge and willingness to share is greatly appreciated.
What a great and special video! Cooking and just spending time together to reminisce of the good 'ol days. Cherish these family times. I did laugh when they said "I waited one whole week to eat this food".
Love your videos with your family doing old plantation cooking, very simple but Ono recipes that anyone can prepare and enjoy. Looking forward to more videos like this.
Pimento in a jar = marinated ripe red bell peppers. This recipe looks yummy! It's so wonderful you guys are documenting your Ohana's recipes. Thanks for sharing!
HI thank you for allowing us into your family home and watch everyone cook. But I have a question? I love the family T-shirts and where can I get or information on how to obtain the family tree. Love the videos and the shirts.
It was fun seeing your family create dishes they grew up with. Sounds like they all did a great job on their recipes! Really like your cooking videos :)
Aloha from O’okala, Hawaii Island! This food is still very much a part of everyday life out here on the Hamakua Coast. As the siblings know, O’okala is a plantation just 7 miles north of Laupahoehoe.
