    Bro, this was so helpful. This is the first time I’ve heard anyone talk about the layering system and I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time. Thank you so much.

      Thanks for the comment. I’ve got more of these kinda vids to follow. I’m heading to up state NY tomorrow. I did a vid on my Kuiu layering system for mid Oct in the mountains. I’ll get that out with the vid of the hunt in a week. Thanks again!

    I bought the proximity jacket last year and it is a great jacket. I bowhunt exclusively and I absolutely love this jacket. I’m 5’6” and about 122 lbs. I wear a small. Kuiu came out with the proximity vest this year and I bought one in a small also and it’s a good fit.

      I really came close to getting the best too. It seems like it’s going to be great!

    Thanks for this vid. Just got this jacket and pants for bow season here in upstate ny. Seems like a great setup.

    Great video! Thank you for the review. I love their gear! I got the encounter coat after seeing your review. I think with my Kenai jacket as a liner this will go farther into the season.

      That’s awesome! The Kenai is a warm piece for sure. That sounds like a great set and I would bet it will get you very late in the season. Where are you located?

      Southwestern Ontario Canada.
      I pair it with the encounter pants as my legs do not get as cold, but I also ordered the proximity bibs.

      I have the encounter pants also. I didn’t get the proximity pants because we have too many burrs and things here in Ohio. I plan to layer under my Axis Hybrid pants.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. I have a Proximity jacket on the way so this was helpful. In terms of sizing, I’m wondering if you have on too many layers? I counted 4 at 8:58. We all run hot and cold, and KUIU sizing can be weird, but I’ve found 3 layers works great for staying warm and there is still room to move. Looking forward to more video!

      I do tend to plan for worst case. I tend to sit all day during Nov and I go early in the late season. I find the warmer I am the longer I sit. I’m sitting in a tree right now. I didn’t take my encounter jacket with me…sun is out and seemed warm. This wind is not kind.

    Helpful video! Was wondering if you maybe have the Yukon rain jacket? I’m looking into running that with the Proximity in medium under the Yukon. Thanks in advance!

    • @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907
      @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment! I don’t have a Yukon jacket. I do have two Axis Hybrid jackets though. I can tell you that the medium fits with one non puffy mid layer. In order to wear layers under it I had to up size: the sleeves are just too tight. I’m going to assume the cut of the Yukon is similar to the Axis. Hope that helps👍🏼

      Im 5’8 and about 150lbs. I live the Kuiu products but sizing takes some figuring out. I’ve got some Encounter gear coming next week. Watch out for those vids. Thanks for the view.

    Good to know you wear a medium but would be better to know height and weight. Also are you serious about wearing that big down jacket under this Proximity outer layer? Im in WI so i understand the cold but that seems a little extreme.

    • @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907
      @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll have to add more information in later vids. Still figuring this out. And yes, if I’m going to sit all day I’d rather be too warm than not warm enough. After all a layering system should include every layer you might need to stay comfortable in the worst conditions that might effect where you hunt. The super down LT is listed as a mid-layer after all. Thanks for the input👍🏼

    Would the guide pro be good for late season

    • @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907
      @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@flushot6513 the guide is only a shell with no real insulation. You may layer beneath it but it’s not a warm layer by itself. The Axis jacket is way better than the guide by the way…you might want to compare the two.

    So, as someone that’s been looking at both the Kuiu Proximity and the Sitka Fanatic setup (which you mentioned you had prior), and have never had the chance to try on either in person, here’s my question - if I’m primarily interested in warmth, how do these two sets compare? You mentioned the Fanatic was heavier, but would it keep me warmer with fewer layers? It’s looking like you’re having to layer up pretty heavily with the Kuiu stuff. On the Kuiu website for the layering diagram for late season they seem to imply this Proximity with the Wind Pro fleece, Kenai vest, and ultra merino 145 will work between 10 and 40 degrees. If you’re putting on that Super Down Pro it makes me think they may be overselling that comfortable temp range. :D So I guess I’m looking for your insight between the two strictly for warmth. Thanks! Good review video as well!

    • @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907
      @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In total honesty the fanatic jacket is by for the warmer of the two jackets. I was never cold wearing the fanatic. My only reason for switching it up was it’s too warm. I prolly wore it a couple times a year. The idea with going with kuiu is all the layers added up can/should equal the Sitka and all those layers can be worn at other times. But if you want warm…the fanatic might be the warmest jacket for bow hunting or short range gun hunting. (I’m sure the super down pro or the gale force jacket are as warm but noisy for treestand sitting). Hope this helps.

      @@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 Thanks! That helps! Come late season where I am it’s very typical to start the mornings in the low 20’s with 10-20 mph wind and it never really improve from that. In recent years I’ve been thinking about getting as warm as I can. Thanks again!

      Sitka fanatic is in its own category. Kuiu proxymity is in the same category as the Sitka stratus

      If you want warmth, the sitka fanatic is the best option for you. It is heavier than the kuiu proxymity. With a couple of layers underneath the fanatic, you will be toasty

  • @sonsofliberty3081
    @sonsofliberty3081 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Dude. You're using WAY too many layers, especially sleeves. That coat isn't ment for that. Think about a vest or something. Maybe a base, 1 200wt, then a down vest, then your puffer, then the proxy. Somthing like that. I would be miserable in that many sleeves

    How does this jacket compare to the Kenai?

    • @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907
      @jimmytimeoutdoorz4907  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Two totally different uses. The Prox is a wind proof outer layer….the Kenai is a mid layer and super delicate. In super cold temps you would layer a Kenai under the Prox jacket.

      I’m 5’8” and 150lbs. In kuiu I normally wear large outer layers, and medium for most base and base layers. 34 for pants to be layered under and 32 if no layers.
