I tend to spend a large portion of my time outdoors. It’s my goal to bring my passion and insight to my videos. Hopefully it’s a help to some and entertainment for others.
I’ve been wrapped up in a house project for the last year. 2023 is going to be a great new start for my old channel. I’ll be out doing all my favorite things and make vids for those interested.
Lots of adventures to come!

I hated the accuratemag magazine that my gun was shipped with. Why would Christensen sell such a nice gun with such a noisy steel magazine. I replaced mine with an MDT 3 round polymer mag and it’s now one of my favorite rifles to take to the deer woods.
Definitely has the accuracy. What's your issue with the trigger? I have the sams HACT trigger in my Weatherby and it's my favorite,at a crisp 2 lbs 10 ounces. Also, I need to see more of a rifles functioning abilities in a review. In other words, does it feed, extract, and eject flawlessly every time.
@@briankelly2886 it functioned perfectly. The trigger itself had a sloppy feel. I have a Timney two stage in one of my rifles. The difference between the two is night and day. I wonder if your Weatherby has a different trigger then the Howa? Either way, my opinion on the trigger didn’t affect the accuracy in the end. I should have done another vid on the Howa before I sold it. I’ve got a few more rifles I’ll be reviewing this spring so keep a watch out for those.
🇦🇺😎👍Hey mate , I’ve got one in Howa 20” Varmint 7.62x39 , leupold 3-9x40 10 shot Mamba mag and aluminium mag well trigger guard and just the hard plastic Howa stock . While I haven’t got mine shooting as good as yours I’m very impressed with its accuracy and performance. Great guns yeah🏁🎄
@@bigtrev761 love the action. No in love with the trigger or plastic bottom metal. But, for the price they are unbeatable. Plenty of room to upgrade. You get yours to shoot the way mine does with the right load. Thanks for the view!
🇦🇺😎👍🎄🏁
Just received a Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel. Will see how mine works with the VMax
Agree. I have the same jacket paired with the Talus hybrid pants for something like 4 years. Very rugged and works great for so many conditions.
Seems as though from your comments this will be another fail for tracking/still hunting. I love my Axis pants but they are a tad noisy. I was looking at these or the stratus pants. The intercept pants are where it’s at early season but not late.
@@Ridgerunner_802 for my hunts in the Adirondack mnts where I do the vast majority of my still hunting/tracking I wear either attack pants from Kuiu or lite weight pants from stone glacier. I’ve got two pair of axis and one guide…they definitely wear in and get quieter but never silent.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907my attack pants got ate up fast and my Dehavilands are one of the nosiest pants I own. I save them for camp and the range instead. I would highly suggest trying the intercept pants for early season. They survived Wyoming this year through a lot of thick country. If those Encounter pants aren’t as durable as the attacks, I won’t be using them in the Daks. I guess I will opt for the Stratus pants.
My mesh pockets always get holes or items stuck in them.
What scope rail is that? How did you find it?
6:54 #2 were in the same hole
Just went out to today and i saw the biggest brown trout I've seen. Its a nice change the the chigrin and Grand not crowed like crazy.
Hey man, you mentioned about the proximity jacket camo being different than the medium. What did Kuiu say about that. I got my jacket and notice the camo is a little dull in color compared to others I've seen. Thanks for any information. Good video too man!
Ok Jimmy! Thanks for the reply. I just saw the Haven released. The kuiu team told me they think the Haven will be too warm (is really meant for below 0 or in the mid teens and below) if I do any still hunting, so I'm going to see what the Proximity looks like and feels. I get friggin cold now (it's always that last 30min to an hour when the deer are moving I start shivering in my wool clothes. This Damp / moist bluster weather we get in November is cold now for me. I always wore wool, but I"m told the new technology will blow my mind away. I ordered the Axis like you have for those warmer say 35-40 degrees and still hunting in wet damp conditions. Thoughts if you have any otherwise thanks for your comments. I hope I don't kick myself on not getting the Haven instead of the proximity. Time will tell.
Jimmy are you concerned about noise? I was debating on whether to get the proximity instead. Originally I was going to get the axis hybrid for north east November white tail and then when sitting put on the super down pro, but just received and feel it is crazy noisy. Thoughts as a white tail hunter. Thank you Ryan
@@ERC-n7g I agree that the down with any outer layer is noisy. Now…can a deer hear it at 20yds? I would doubt it. The proximity is a good jacket. I had one and it was warm and quiet. If you don’t have burrs where you are it would be good option. I know it gets lots colder there than where I am in Ohio. So, might want to check out the new haven down jacket. But really, as long as I don’t wear any down mid layers my axis apparel is quiet enough for me.
What you pay seen a mesa 1400 and Ridgeline like 2000
@@dannysavagedraftguru the last time I checked Christensen web page the only rifle chambered in 450 was the Ridgeline scout. If you want a Christensen mesa or Ridgeline you’ll need to buy used. Plenty of them on gun broker for a good price.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 they brand new on line both mesa and ridgeline. But I read lot of reviews lot of problems with that brand. Question I was asking you was to see what you paid to see if they went up or down in price
Why would you go out in the rain with non-waterproof pants to do a review when you know you’re gonna get wet?
@@BROVERLANDER the purpose was to see how long the set would last before they wet out. I was 200 yards from my back door so I was in no danger of hypothermia. My question to you would be, why would a company make clothes with waterproof provisions if they weren’t meant to be worn in wet conditions? Wouldn’t it also be nice to know how they preformed in those wet conditions before needed them in a less forgiving situation.
Congratulations on your build. Hard to beat this performance for the price! The Grendel is an exceedingly efficient round. Enjoy yourself! I recommend LeveRevolution under the 123-130 grain class bullets.
polymer mags work much better in my ridgeline
How did the wind pro fleece hold up in the field? I see people online say the peloton 240 is actually a good wind break so wondering between the two for bow season.
@@matthewmichalek436 I found the wind pro camo to be frosty and not vivid. It’s very quiet and does block the wind well enough. The peloton 240 is a great jacket and does everything they claim including wind blocking. The only detractors are that it has no hole for safety harness and it’s is kinda loud. If you’re buying check the new proximity LT jacket. It’s replacing wind pro.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 Thanks. I have been using a saddle, so the safety harness hole hasn't been necessary. Probably come down to price when they have a sale soon on either option. Good videos on fitment and sizing! I will be sizing up to layer after watching.
@@matthewmichalek436 I personally like the 240 better. I’ve got two and they both are “loud” but with a few washes they calm down some. It’s probably nothing a deer would hear from 20 yards…
I'm curious how that encounter 200 fits compared to the peleton 200. Or compared to any of their garments. I'm back and forth between XL and XXL in the their garments.
@@nathankimbro2639 I found the bottoms to run the same as all the other pants I’ve got. 32” with no layers and 34” with. The top was roomy in the chest but like must Kuiu it’s narrow in the sleeve cuffs (elbow to wrist). I had a large and I could wear any layers I needed except for a puffy layer like keni….FYI I sold my encounter jacket and pants…. I personally found them to not be very warm (no wind protection at all). The pocket layout is great and it’s not a bad garment. But, if the wind blows cold you might feel it and if it rains they wet out quickly too.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 Thanks for the feedback. I was primarily interested in the Encounter 200 which is the waffle top tee. My Peleton 118 zip tee I'm XXL vs Merino 120 in XL. Its always a guessing game with fingers crossed when I order.
@@nathankimbro2639 ah…sorry. I find the 200 to be as expected. It’s warm and fits as normal. I had a peloton 190 hooded too. In my opinion the encounter is better worn over a merino or any other next to the skin layer. The peloton is more suited as a mid layer over the encounter if needed. That’s how I used them last season.
@@nathankimbro2639 AND! In my experience with Kuiu…the merino clothes run bigger than the synthetic clothes.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 absolutely. Except the Merino short sleeve then I'm back up to XXL
Thanks for your dedication on reviews of the Kuiu gear. I was thinking about purchasing the Encounter series. But from the looks of it, I don't think that material will do well against PA thickets and thorn bushes. It will probably get torn up. I might consider the Guide or Axis series. It seems that fabric would hold up better. What's your opinion on that?
@@enjoytheoutdoors101 I’ve got a vid about to come out on the Encounter. I hunt Ohio, PA and Ny. I was very disappointed with the encounter line. I’m also going to do a vid on my kit for this year that will replace the encounter.
Sounds good 👍
Kuiu sizing is infamously small. I am a XXL in every other type and line of clothing. But the only Kuiu Axis that fit me is the 4XL, which provides some underlay opportunities. It’s not waterproof, it is warm, and is good for Fall hunts where you are moving, like still hunting. Despite trying all the high tech brands (FirstLite), I still find no substitute for virgin wool of all makes, and Cabela’s Wooltimate line.
Man kuiu has THE WORST quality control on size , diff lines all have size issues , THE ONLY FUCKED UP THING with this company , I KNOW what I'm talking about have, large and XL jackets , All my pants I had to go up a size
Would the guide pro be good for late season
@@flushot6513 the guide is only a shell with no real insulation. You may layer beneath it but it’s not a warm layer by itself. The Axis jacket is way better than the guide by the way…you might want to compare the two.
Love the HOWA Mini Actions. Got one in 300 Blackout and one in 7.62 X 39. Smashed the bottom “metal” (definitely the wrong word), torquing it down. It’s a shame if HOWA is going to head down that road; it’s a road to nowhere.
Hi Jimmy, i want to get a set of hunting clothing. Since you had sitka and now you have kuiu , why did you switch to kuiu and are you happy with kuiu. Is it better than sitka?
@@Brno67x both companies make legit clothing lines. I prefer the Kuiu camo patterns. What is your method of hunting, species and geographic location?
I have the pelton 200 xl and love it the vias camo wanna buy the 240 so i assume i would get that in xl as well
@@flushot6513 I find one size up gets you midlayers and two sizes up gets you room for a puffy layer.
I really like my Axis jacket.
I'm not seeing this on the web site.
Oh crap! Looks like they stopped chambering all rifle lines for 450. Go on Gunbroker and get you one fast before they are gone or get over priced.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 yeah thanks. I was mostly curious about price and passing on what I saw. I have one of a more budget friendly option
the fanatic is way better as far as how warm it is but Im with you not a fan of the camo.
What color Camo do you think blends better in Ohio the valo or the verde?
Valo would be my choice if I had to choose one. Verde works very well in the early season. In the later part of the season when there are no leaves I feel that verde is a little dark. The softer tones of the Valo realy blend well while in a tree and on the ground. Hope this helps👍🏼 thanks for the sub
Thank you for all of the Kuiu reviews! I’m just getting into Kuiu & your reviews have helped me tremendously, especially the sizing info
Just found your channel and subbed. Great reviews on kuiu stuff man. Ive done a few reviews on them myself. Bummed to hear that encounter line let you down!
I’m getting ready to upload the Encounter vid today. I had high expectations but it’s the first line that’s let me down. I’ll look up your channel. Thanks for the comment.
I’m trying to decide on a camo pattern that would match the terrain here in southern Indiana which i’d assume is fairly similar to Ohio’s, would you recommend the valo or the verde?
Valo is my choice. Verde is great for early season but when the leaves drop I think it’s a little dark. The Valo is subtle and blends better while in the tree. I’ll have a vid on the Encouter line very soon. Wait to make a purchase till you see it.
Please please please do a glove comparison video!
Will do! Thank for your interest👍🏼
Good stuff thanks for sharing. So many weight fabrics of everything they make.
After getting to use this some, would you say the encounter or guide pants are warmer?
I’m planning an up coming video on this very subject. In my opinion the encounter line is a little disappointing. I’ve read some reviews where guys were very impressed with the warmth. I was not really happy with the warmth factor. It is supposed to be an outer soft shell layer. I found it to have absolutely no wind blocked ability. The only thing redeeming is the quietness, pocket lay out and the treestand harness port. Now for the guide. Good garments for hunting without a treestand harness. I’ve had guide and axis hybrid and with the water proofing I just go with the axis. Hope this helps.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 Very much, thank you.
I have a lot of their gear but the Axis is not my favorite and it sure isn’t very waterproof. Not very warm either and it also takes forever to dry once soaked. Stick with straight rain gear when needed and the guide jacket when not. Layer accordingly.
Really? For a few hour hunt they hold up for me. Haven’t really needed them to dry quickly without the use of a clothes drier. It’s nice they offer real rain gear. I’m fixin to do a vid on the Encounter line. That line is a disappointment to me.
I have this set also and love it for wet weather. No issues in the rain or snow with water getting through and it didn’t take long to dry out.
Does the axis keep warm in like 40 degrees with just a tshirt ?
Great pant , used them everyday for ca archery season , busted tons of brush, no rips , snags or stickers. Love ‘em.
How tall are you and weight?
I’m 5’8” and 150lbs. In kuiu I normally wear large outer layers, and medium for most base and base layers. 34 for pants to be layered under and 32 if no layers.
Dude. You're using WAY too many layers, especially sleeves. That coat isn't ment for that. Think about a vest or something. Maybe a base, 1 200wt, then a down vest, then your puffer, then the proxy. Somthing like that. I would be miserable in that many sleeves
Hope you get him
I didn’t get to. Had an emergency at home and had to leave early. Really it’s all about the experience. Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for sharing. I have a Proximity jacket on the way so this was helpful. In terms of sizing, I’m wondering if you have on too many layers? I counted 4 at 8:58. We all run hot and cold, and KUIU sizing can be weird, but I’ve found 3 layers works great for staying warm and there is still room to move. Looking forward to more video!
I do tend to plan for worst case. I tend to sit all day during Nov and I go early in the late season. I find the warmer I am the longer I sit. I’m sitting in a tree right now. I didn’t take my encounter jacket with me…sun is out and seemed warm. This wind is not kind.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 thanks but comment replies can wait until you’re finished hunting.🍀 🦌 💥
I have the Super Down Ultra Vest XL, so I really can't comment on the sleeves length. But I can say, I only use it as a mid-layer (as stated on Kuiu web site). I think the fabric is too delicate for out layer coverage. After 3 years, I finally had a quill extending from the fabric. Again, only used it as a mid-layer under their Guide Jacket. Very warm! Lifetime warranty, they sent me a Noso Patch which cover the hole well. I think the outer fabric is just too fragile for an outer wear jacket or pant.
I had an ultra jacket and was very amazed at how warm it really was. I only switched to the LT for the hood and they were switch from ultra to LT at the time.
Is there a plenty of room under the armpits on the Super Down LT? I'm buying one for a mid-layer to wear under a Gore-Tex shell in 0-20 degree South Dakota weather, which can also be quite windy. Would that combination be warm enough for upland pheasant hunting?
The range of motion is very good. I can lift my arms without the bottom of the jacket lifting. Mine is a medium which is my actual size. Can layer beneath and it fits under my large proximity and peloton 240 jackets. It’s warm! As long as you’ve got an outer layer to keep the briers off it I’d say it should work for you.
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 Thanks. Your review was very helpful. Happy hunting!
Thank you and the same to you!
@@jimmytimeoutdoorz4907 My Kuiu super down LT jacket arrived this morning. This is going to work perfect with my outer shell jacket. Warm but not bulky. Thanks again.
How does this jacket compare to the Kenai?
Two totally different uses. The Prox is a wind proof outer layer….the Kenai is a mid layer and super delicate. In super cold temps you would layer a Kenai under the Prox jacket.
What is your size? You look similar in size to me. Im have the proximity in large and it fits perfect for layers. I would assume a large encounter jacket should be what I want.
Sorry for the delay. You are correct about the sizing. I’ve been wearing the encounter with layers during this current cold snap. To be honest, it’s not as warm or wind resistant as I had hoped. I hope they update it next year. Maybe I should sent them a hint…wind proofing and maybe some water proof layers. Similar to the axis hybrid.
Could you tell me if the magazine/bottom metal for that gun is the same size as the .308/6.5CM? Will that magazine that came with the gun fit a .308/6.5CM rounds in it? Reason I ask is I’m thinking about buying one and already have a nice Manners carbon stock that fits the .308/6.5CM.
The mag is stamped 308 in the Mesa. I’ve got a Rem clone custom build that the Mesa fits directly into. Except, the bottom metal that came with Mesa is a different thickness then the one bought with the Terminus action. So the action beds very nice but to use the stock I would have to use the bottom metal from the Terminus action and not the CA to make that all work. I hope this all helps. Thanks for the comment and if you have any further questions just hit me up.
