Rear Shocks Install - Chevy Silverado

- Installing some new Monroe Reflex shocks on a 2007 Chevy Silverado. Some of the tools needed will be 21mm sockets or wrenches, breaker bar (possibly), and penetrating oil such as WD-40.
If you mess up like I did while cutting the plastic retainer, you can easily take a ratchet strap to collapse the shock again.
Doing this tonight, glad to see the rears look pretty easy like the fronts

Gonna be fighting a hoard of mosquitoes tomorrow morning, but looks like I’m doing all four and rotating the tires.
Does vehicle have to be lifted or be supported by jack/jack stand to do this? I have shock extenders that only require I take the bottom shock bolt out but don’t know if I need a jack to do so
I didn't have to use jacks to lift the truck up. The truck was sitting on the tires the whole time.

you forgot to put Anti-Seize on the bolt's before putting them back on, did you jack the rear end up or no ?
The bolts on my ‘02 were galvanized and still in great shape 19 years later. No need for antiseize. And the shocks don’t support any of the weight of the vehicle they just absorb bumps and stabilize the vehicle. No need to Jack it up.
Currently have the bed removed on my 1990 chevy c1500. I'm assuming it would be easier to remove and install new ones right ??? Do you think I need a jack to raise or lower for this job ?? Help !!!!!!!
If you have the bed removed, this should be a fairly easy job and I doubt you will need a jack. At least that’s my guess.
How do you like these? I have the Bilstein 5100 but I feel they are a little too stiff
Ben Garcia I like them. I have Bilstein 5100 in the front and these ones in the rear.
To those who said he forgot to “prime” the shocks…monotube shocks do NOT have to be primed before installation.
Did you have to raise the back on jack stands?
No. I had room to do it while it sat on the tires.
How they holding up? I got the newer Monroe's without the rubber boot. I was hoping to get some Blistein 5100's but all the auto parts stores were bone dry.

I did not need to use jack stands. I left the rear tires on the ground the whole time
No jack stands? A lot of other vids I seen make it look like if the entire diferencial is going to fall off if you don’t use them lol
Nope. I didn't need to take the tires off at all.
If you have a large pickup truck or suv that has room to crawl underneath you won’t need to jack up to replace shocks. But if you have a car that’s lower than jacking it up is required

I seen another video saying you could removed the plastic strap from the shock before installing, and said you should compress it 3-5 times to get the gasses working? Thoughts?
U should it’s called priming the shock.
I don’t think it matters. I researched it quite a bit and half the mechanics say it’s not necessary, the other half says you should 🤷♂️

JH Williams S-52 Super Ratchet. It’s old. It was my grandfathers but still works perfectly. I’m guessing you could probably search around for one but it’s vintage.

I’m not sure. I just tightened them up.

just did the fronts on my 08. Need to do the rears now. I used ACDelco up front. Would you recommend the ACDelco or the Monroe for the rears? I heard good things about both and they are about the same price. Thanks
I used Monroe on mine, but AC Delco is just as good.

@@mjfdiecast1303 I did not use any thread locker. I checked them about a month later and they were fine. Probably not a bad idea to use thread locker but I don't know for sure if it is required or not.

@@mjfdiecast1303 Yes. I plan to change the transmission fluid as soon as it warms up outside. My truck has almost 100,000 miles on it and its probably a good idea to change it. I'm going to post a video on how to do it once I get around to changing it.

You forgot to prime the shocks by fully compressing each shock 5 times, I made the same mistake on my 1st install of the Monroe Reflux shocks, they only drove good for 7 months, reinstalled the same shocks the next time, compressing all 4 shocks 5 times, it is now 3 years 46 thousand miles later with no issues.
Is that in the Monroe manual / instructions or something just being repeated? Wondering.

No. Probably supposed too but there has been no problems.
Will any bolts work for these? My truck is missing a bolt and the others are rusted out and I'd like to replace them.
I would personally use new shock bolts from an auto parts store. The reason is I know many regular bolts have different strengths and grades so I wouldn't want to use something that isn't strong enough.

My Monroe shocks went bad at 2000 miles
I received pretty bad reviews of Monroe and Gabriel.. i'll be trying kyb on mine.
