This was very helpful. Just had surgery 3 days ago and they didn't give me any instructions other than to walk as much as i can handle. I'll be incorporating this going forward. Thank you!!
I had surgery almost 3 weeks ago, I was released with a paper saying how to walk and to ice, no more! I went this morning searching to find help as I have issues like some pain and stiffness and found this video. I am surprised at the information I didn’t get at the release from the hospital!! Thank you for this video, I was desperate for help, and I hope that these exercises will still help me, as I am having discomfort and felt helpless with a very tight knee. I was also never told about elevation of my leg and so on…. Thank you and God bless!
I feel your pain I was woken up after operation and given a paper and told to go home. No after care was provided, no follow up call or physio and that’s when I came across this video. I had to do it all myself and now I’m so much better!
I just had knee Arthroscopy a week ago. The only way I could’ve done those exercises on the first day, is if someone actually did them for me. The second day the pain was worst because the nerve blockers were wearing off. I had to have help getting in and out of bed for the first 3-4 days. It does get better as the days go by. I just take my time.
Oh whew. I just had mine done on Friday, and honestly I couldn’t do the knee bending with the heel slide one even if someone did it for me! And I’m only 35 😭 so thanks for saying it gets better since you actually had it done too
@Cassandra what was your recovery ? I just had mines ( knee arthroscopic w/ removal of cyst)) which we didn't know it was there) yesterday. How long before you drove? My doc said i should be back to normal in April.
Ditto to everything all of you reported. I’m barely managing, I even avoid the steps as much as possible and it’s been ten days for me. I don’t want to be on pain meds unnecessarily.
One of the best videos that clearly explains what to do .unfortunately it’s not everyone are like you and explain what to do when you are out of surgery. All they say is rest and ice and elevation. My knee is swollen and it doesn’t go down that easy. So I am doing your exercises. Thank you
Same to me. They repaired my meniscus and just told me to ice elevate and keep the brace on. They only told me about ankle circles. But none of these other exercises. I'm going on 3 weeks after surgery and still have swelling. All this time I thought the knee was still to fragile to do these other exercises so soon.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I had knee surgery 3 weeks ago and had no idea how to elevate my knee and exercise to prevent blood clots. My swelling went down tremendously after following your direction. Bless you.
I’m grateful for your video. Meniscus surgery a week and a half ago. My surgical nurse gave me standard exercises to do, but on paper with images. No clarity about how to do them or gradually add a new exercise as days went on. Too much hip muscle strain left me with irritated hip muscles. Your video gave me a clear option, and I’m feeling no hip strain. Feeling less knee pain. Thank you.
Meniscus repair this week. Surgeon said no pt needed. I'm suspicious so looked you up and will def be doing these exercises so my knee gets strong again. Thank you so much!
No PT?! That is VERY suspicious and does not seem right at all. I had a meniscectomy (trimming the torn part basically) and I have been in PT for months. I would imagine with an actual repair, you definitely should have gotten PT! Sometimes these surgeons say silly stuff. I know your comment was 4 yrs ago but for anyone finding this in 2023, GO TO PT. It is life changing and essential to your recovery!!!
Over a month ago I had sepsis due to a Cortisone shot that went bad then had to have arthroscopy to get the pus and bacteria removed. There may have been some miniscus trouble as well. No one at the hospital or rehab center showed me any of these exercies. I've been doing all right but want to do much better. Thank you for this video with its clear, simple instructions. I know this will be a help to me.
I had knee arthroscopy 12 days ago due to loose bodies. My knee is still swollen but I can walk already. I tried these exercises in 10 counts with 5 reps and they helped reduce my pain and stiffness. Will continue to do again tomorrow until my walking is back to normal. Thanks to these exercises.
I had a small meniscus tear in my left leg. I had surgery this morning. This was great information!! Thank you. I have saved this to work on at home. I am doing ankle circles because of the blood clot situation. I was told about taking aspirin only. Thank you❤️💯💪🙌
We live in Portugal and I just had an athroscopic surgery to right knee. We had an amazing experience but the post-op instructions are in Portuguese and are slightly daunting. Having seen your video now was very very helpful and I am glad I found it. Thank you for putting the efforts in to show others like us far abroad how to manage the exercises. 👏💪👍
I’ve had five knee scopes . Filth one just recently. Started leg raises immediately after surgery. Started immediately trying to put some pressure on the knee with use of crutches. On third day short walks in the house being careful to turn cautiously. Ankle rotation, slightly bending knee as pain allows. Then rehab at a local office. The quicker you start exercise’s the better. This helps stretch the muscles and keep them working properly. You will see it makes things easier.
True, but as a therapist i'd Say It depends on the type of operation you went through. The general rule tho Is to start asap to work on It, but some times u Just Need to wait the healing process (meniscus repair for example)
Informative video on strengthening knee following knee arthroscopic surgery. Gonna have arthroscopic surgery in the next few weeks due to knee arthritis and I find this video very helpful
You have undergone a knee surgery? Or some femur fracture surgery? Because i have got femur fracture surgery 25 days back and i cannot bend knee properly , so i am doing exercises...if you have gone knee surgery for stiffed knee ? Then tell me can you move your knee full bend to 180%?
My surgeon didn’t give me exercises. It’s been 12 days. I can walk without crutches. I can bend my knee but it sure hurts after a long day. Getting in the tub shower hurts in the morning. It feels very tight inside. Swelling is better. No one had mentioned these darn compression socks! Hate hate hate! 2 more days! Still icing and still elevating a bit.
I'm one week post op, and they gave me no excursuses. I actually had to call the surgeon's office to ask if it was normal to have major swelling and dark purple on my thigh. Thank you for these exercises, it's much appreciated! )
I had my scope on 3/17. Day 3 was the worst for me. I started physical therapy on Monday. But the way you show and explain your exercises is great! Mornings are definitely the worst stiff as a board. Sleeping was pretty difficult until I came across a video on here about where to place pillows between your legs to make it more comfortable to sleep.
This is best knee exercises I found on internet . I had removal bone spur & meniscusectomy last Tuesday 8/6/21 in slough 🇬🇧 Silly me age 56 years I tore my meniscus while on see saw with my granddaughter ! Pain is still there but I am doing these exercises however still cannot bend my knee probable . All hospital gave me was an leaflet how to do exercises. I hope to return to work in august as I am an nurse .
I had my cartilage trimmed 3 days ago. Was told I can bare weight on both legs. I'm just worried about doing the exercises incase I make things worse :( things were not entirely explained about aftercare. Also in the UK!
This is very helpful video, Thank you. Today I have 4th day after my Meniscus Muscle Arthroscopy Surgery. I will follow same before I will see the doctor.
On day 4 after meniscus surgery, tears repaired on both sides of my knee. Only instructions I was given was to elevate and ice and use crutches, but allowed to put weight on the leg immediately if tolerated. I’m 71 years old, I don’t think crutches are very safe, instead I was using a walker with front wheels which is much more stable. I was allowed to take the wrapping off my knee after 48 hours and shower, my knee doesn’t look very swollen and I’m able to walk without the walker. However, my knee is quite stiff and sore. My return appointment with the surgeon isn’t for two weeks. I had the left knee done two years ago, and followed up with a lot of physical therapy. I’m going to try the gentle exercise this time around. I think they will help me to progress faster.
Good video. My doctor never told me any of those. He just asked me to be back at his clinic after 2 weeks. It is 3 weeks post op and ive been watching exercises of youtube. At first, i couldnt straigthen my leg but 3 days after the surgery ive been trying to extend it. Now i can fully extend. My problem now is i can only bend my knee 135°. Ive been working it out though. Still on crutches, cant walk without it as the op spot is still painful.
Just had surgery 2weeks ago I’m a teacher and I’m really ready to get back to my students. I can stand and walk without crutches but my doctor has not took me out the long leg wrap and put me in my knee brace. (Frustrated) I can bend me knee while sitting but only to a 90 degree level… no pain meds so i will start trying to drive soon because my independence is really driving me crazy
Thanks for these exercises it is very helpful for me. I'm on my one week post operation not started exercise just a little bit walking now will start the way you showed my here
Left patella fractured very far away, just done TBW operation 3 days ago, left leg below is protected by a long piece of hard plastic sheet, can walk slowly with a cane, what should I do? TQVM.
I had this surgery done 3 wks ago and I wish I had seen this video before then. This is a much better healing and strengthening process. I was told on my 1st visit after surgery to start hm exercise and I was experiencing stiffness along with weakness in the knee.
I have dislocated my knee and got a cast for my left whole leg. I have been told to do strengthening exercises which involves lifting my legs a bit while in sleeping position. But the cast feels too heavy. I cant lift my injured leg an inch, while I can easily lift my other leg. What do I do.
Thank you for the great video. Doctors in this neck o' the woods tell you nothing, not even to ice and elevate. Just medicine a crutches. It's rhe pits. I'll to do these exercises daily, like you said. Would like to know when to start on stationery bike.
This is so helpful! 7 hours out of surgery right now. Literally walked straight from the operating table with hardly a limp. I can certainly bend the knee and lift a straight leg though it does make a squishy fluidy sound when I bend my knee to sit. I don’t want to push it, but...how much can I push it? I really want to rehab as quickly as possible, as I’m a dancer who needs to get back to work :) I don’t expect a reply but any advice is appreciated. :)
I’d say 97% recovered. Certainly stronger than before the surgery, but I have one issue currently. Occasionally when I stand and lock my knees (I’m hyper mobile) I get a really sharp pain at the base of the patella. But overall great. Able to work out hard on it and run a couple miles with no pain. :)
I’ve had my surgery yesterday and I’ve been doing some stretches and feet circles. I am unable to bend my knee as I’m still bandaged up and my knee just won’t listen to me. I’ve managed to walk around the house slowly to put some pressure on my knee and leg as I don’t want to be bed bound all day. I will slowly start to do more excersise as time goes on.
@@shacarra061 it took me realistically around 2 months I had lost a lot of muscle from my leg and as we were in lockdown due to covid worse time I had to do a lot of trekking and walking to build it back up as you couldn’t physically go see the physio. I had surgery loose bodies today I’m walking already but I did a lot of strength work before my surgery. I’ll be icing tonight an doing my exercises from tomorrow on.
I gad a partial knee replacement on May 3 2021 and then i had gave surgery again on my right knee to remove the scare tissue that was 7 weeks ago and my knee wont straight out it still at a 4 degree strengthening to and knee bend is at 100 of last Wednesday to. I just had my left knee done on October 21 2021. I have sharp shooting pains to when dies it go away.
Thank you. Please, can you tell me, when may I start cross-country skiing after the arthroscopy on knee plica removal? Had my surgery done 2 months ago.
I had surgery about 3 weeks ago. Also had a lateral release and a Chondroplasty…I’m having a hard time with knee stiffness and leg lifts without that pain in the middle of my knee, so frustrating and laying on my back trying to bend my knee up with heel slides but it’s sooooo stiff. Also still on crutches to walk around, Feel defeated 😢
These replies are killing me. Did none of you do any pre-hab prior to your surgeries? I spent the 6 weeks between diagnosis and surgery killing myself in the gym strengthening my legs. I walked un-aided into my house after surgery and could do all of these the next day with no issues or pain.
What if doing those circles causes severe Charlie horses? In fact I can't do any of these without my feet locking causing severe pain. I have a neurpathy, fibromyalgia, and am on medication that causes leg cramping. There's no way I will be able to do many of these, I'm worried.
How are U doing? I'm having a partial meniscectomy on Nov 22 Did U have other injuries? I have loose bodies, bone contusion, complex meniscus tear,& Baker's cyst. A nightmare injury. 7-17-19. Very shortly I will be undergoing partial meniscectomy for a very large bucket handle tear. The injury occurred 3-15-19. In those past 4 months, I have been doing very extensive/very intense home pt with particular focus on the featured exercises and quad strengthening. However, I have been unable to achieve proper quad strength, it’s not even close to pre injury status/contra lateral side. I can not hyperextend! Now I’m faced with the proposition of going into surgery with extensive quad weakness as well as ROM deficiency. I couldn’t get these things back in the last 4 months despite very diligent efforts. How will I ever get that back after surgery? Perhaps never. Please feel free to share.
In my *very* non expert opinion, I'd focus more intensely on glutes, hamstrings, calves and hip rom. Having these strong will be a boon to your recovery post surgery. Throw in some core work as well to help you get around easier on one leg.
@@mikeray353. Had surgery on 10-17-19. The surgeon removed all of my meniscus and did not address my 70% torn ACL. Surgery was supposed to last 40 min. It took him 1hour and 40 min. I should have never gone through surgery, it lessened me. I have some nerve damage and I needed a cane in order to walk for two years after surgery. Today I can barely walk unaided. What started out as an injured left knee, has turned out to be an extremely painful right hip and flank as a result of my bad gait. My suggestion to anyone in a similar predicament would be to act quickly (not haphazardly) and decisively so as to not allow for further injury due to compensatory movements. If PT is an option I would find the best and give it all I’ve got and then concede to surgery as a measure of last resort and if happens to pan out that way, again, do some homework and find the very best doctor. Mine was a unique situation, most people would not have to deal with a nightmare like mine. I’m sorry to hear about your knee, I wish you good health and happiness!
I had Infection over the KNEE and the Infection was cleared by doing a Surgery a month ago. After doing the Surgery, I lost the Muscle which is at the upper leg and the muscle on the KNEE became very strong enough where I'm unable to bend my Leg. When ever I'm trying to bend my Leg, I'm feeling like something was holding the upper and lower leg and was paining. After completing my surgery, I was supposed to take Bed rest for a fortnight. Till that fortnight doctor didn't suggested or ordered me to do exercises. After that fortnight, Doctor suggested for Physiotherapy. I'm attending the Therapy sessions from the last 15 days. Till now also when I'm attending the Therapy sessions, I'm unable to bend my self after returning to home. Need your tips related to Exercise Steps and I've to move as like earlier....Thank you
Hi All I'm a Ship Surveyor and while crawling inside ballast tank I twisted my left knee while under load, it was minimal but the next few days I get pain and my knee was swelling. From MRI à meniscus tear appear on the white part of the meniscus. Now after 6 weeks of rest my knee is getting better but question is can I still doing my crawling and climbing on the ship? Or is better to be on the safe side and reduce my work activities?
The arthroscopy ended up speeding up the arthritis that was already in the knee. One yr later, I had a knee replacement. It has has been 7 weeks post and the pain is real. What kind of surgery she had? Did she have a repair or something ? I had surgery done and doctor told me no weight bearing for 4-6 weeks. I’m trying to see what can I do
Most of the issue comes from the swelling of the knee that limits everything. I am in y fifth day . I walk but i am limping , I can’t contract my right muscle , I have swelling on my quad and limits my muscle to work when I walk. Cortisone shot is a miracle and it will help with swelling and pain tremendously. I have had it 2 years ago and it does take off the swelling in 12 hours to zero swelling.

@@zpr592 it sure did ,,,, the stationary bike is what works best ,,100% ,,,, start with low resistance and just getting the knee to flex is the impportant part ,,, then slowly build up resistance and within a few weeks you will notice a huge digfference

@@emilialigorio4889 i am as active as they get , plus i fish lobster for a living so my knees are important when lifting 100 pound traps while walking on a moving floor ,,,, so i was worried that i couldn't fish anymore or be active like i was,,but for a good week or 2 after surgery i just rested alot while doing minimal stuff while in my bed, Leg raises , and knee flexion ,,then after that 2 week period i hit the stationary bike to improve my quad muscles but more importantly improve knee flexibility,,,and gradually when you feel you can better move the knee i increased then tension on the bike. i walked 2 times a day also. Do not loose hope because it's like all of a sudden after a month of this your knee will feel like 60% better over night, then from there it is easier to increase the tension on the stationary bike. Ma'am u can start cycling and check my video and start cones exercise
U will be back to sports ok
@Spez Naz I'm on week one partial meniscectomy I still can't walk or bare weight which scares me cuz most people can bare weight and walk first week 🤦

I had a small meniscus tear in my left leg. I had surgery this morning. This was great information!! Thank you. I have saved this to work on at home. I am doing ankle circles because of the blood clot situation. I was told about taking aspirin only. Thank you❤️💯💪🙌
Start cycling and cones exercise and ankle weight
Did they do the knee scope, and reconstruction or was it two different surgeries?
Bro go to a new doctor, 5 is a lot, If you been going to the same doctor, then that’s the problem
Informative video on strengthening knee following knee arthroscopic surgery. Gonna have arthroscopic surgery in the next few weeks due to knee arthritis and I find this video very helpful
Had right knee done Wednesday and today is Friday....started my exercises. Knee bends thank God.
Could you please let me know what exercises you do?
Thank you for these exercises, it's much appreciated! )
overthetopblues I have that now. Effusion and hematoma
Same no exercises were given to me . I am stiff as a board
Hang in there im 4 months out the recovery flew by you’ll be back at it before you know it
What video. Can you share please. Having a very difficult time sleeping on.back

ACL surgery or meniscus?
Thanks for these exercises it is very helpful for me. I'm on my one week post operation not started exercise just a little bit walking now will start the way you showed my here
How you are feeling.?? Actually I just had surgery before 3 weeks.
Left patella fractured very far away, just done TBW operation 3 days ago, left leg below is protected by a long piece of hard plastic sheet, can walk slowly with a cane, what should I do? TQVM.
Was it your surgery meniscus repair or meniscuoectomy??
I had this surgery done 3 wks ago and I wish I had seen this video before then. This is a much better healing and strengthening process. I was told on my 1st visit after surgery to start hm exercise and I was experiencing stiffness along with weakness in the knee.
How is your recovery now?
And how long did it take you to get back to normal? Im 5 days post surgery
How is now
I’d say 97% recovered. Certainly stronger than before the surgery, but I have one issue currently. Occasionally when I stand and lock my knees (I’m hyper mobile) I get a really sharp pain at the base of the patella.
But overall great. Able to work out hard on it and run a couple miles with no pain. :)
@@Sirbradford13 and how about now?
I’ve had my surgery yesterday and I’ve been doing some stretches and feet circles. I am unable to bend my knee as I’m still bandaged up and my knee just won’t listen to me. I’ve managed to walk around the house slowly to put some pressure on my knee and leg as I don’t want to be bed bound all day. I will slowly start to do more excersise as time goes on.
How long did it take you to recover? And how are you now?

I had knee meniscus surgery after a month pain resume, what shall I do?
I had a debridement of the later meniscus. Should I be using my ROM brace for the whole two weeks. My leg is starting to get stiff.
Thank you. Today had my surgery yesterday.
How is your knee today?
My doctor wants to do two different surgeries one is the scope and the second one is for the cartilage reconstruction should I get a second opinion?
Can this work for microfracture surgery?

Then had PT done on friday which i worked it very good but swollen the nexy day an still hatd to bend. I cut all mu ligamnets an a artery due to an accident. Surgery was also for a force bend. Still having issues. Any advice??
My story is very similar... how did it play out?

Or is better to be on the safe side and reduce my work activities?

Most of the issue comes from
the swelling of the knee that limits everything.
