Fantastic video. Thank goodness none of your suggestions for therapy included knee replacement. Had my right knee replaced back in 2011. Works fine so far. I now have issues with my left knee, but at 73 years old I don’t want to do another knee replacement. Thanks.❤
I see most of the treatments to knee pain are knee area strengthening...yup, I have been doing this for the past 6 months and my knees could not feel better.....you just have to dedicate yourself to regular exercises and they will be life changing.....it worked for me
Those videos must have cost the predatory health billing system millions in vague early exploratory consultations. Bravo! Too often people go to the Dr and because they have no idea about their own physiology can't describe coherently where they have pain and never end up with any concrete diagnosis or require loads of expensive additional exams to try and get additional information.
A brilliant Exposition on pain in the knee(s).This is the 1st video I've seen, which clearly demonstrates the several different issues with knee pain. They all talk about 'Meniscus' problems to the exclusion of all other possible problems. As a result of this video, I now know which one is causing my problem. Thank you 👍😊
Thank you this is so informative. It’s really helped as you showed allocation on the knee and what can be done to alleviate the pain like what exercise to do. Best explanation. Thank you 🙏🏼
After watching this video I’ve realized I have tibiofibular joint pain on outside of left leg, just below the knee. I’ll have to go to a doctor to confirm this but how I injured it makes total sense. I experienced a chipped fracture in my left ankle in 1999/2000. Then I thought I had a MCL tear a few years later after injuring my left leg at discus/shot put practice. Felt like a snapped rubber band and a hot poker in my leg. Got an mri done a few years later and it was a bakers cyst I had in the back of my knee. No mcl tear. I’m 39 years old now and last week experienced a very sharp pain and an intense snap in that same spot. Flipping hurt. I’ve done the whole RICE method but I will be going to the doctors to get it checked out. Thank you for this video!! Very helpful in identifying where around my knee is the pain.
Dr Bellemans, Your videos have greatly helped me with my knee. You are so skilled in anatomy and your detailed analysis and treatment recommendations are explained very well
Very informative! So helpful. We just had an appointment with our doc yesterday, and didn’t have enough time in our appointment slot to really solve much. now with this video, we know what topics to start looking into, and be be better prepared when we go see our next health professional.
Wow! I was recently terminated from my job after my knee 'injury', because they felt I was unable to perform my job duties, of course did not happen at work... but while awaiting my MRI I've been putting in my due diligence and researching possible causes. I would describe my symptoms 1st as a burning sensation in the inner/ lower portion of the knee, more recently becoming very painful to even walk. This video brought back memories I'd forgotten about having very high arches and years ago being told I had collapsing arches! I completely forgot all about it. I'm 55 and should be wearing good arch support shoes. Chiropractor told me 'don't compensate for what good shoes should be doing for you', as in buying arch supports for dumb shoes. Here I am quoting him after completely forgetting about this issue from more than...20 yrs ago? Thanks Prof Bellemans, I will take this information and proceed with knowledge!
Thank you so much for this video, Dr. Bellemans. Can you please make a video of best "strengthening exercise therapy" for patellofemoral syndrome/patellar tendinitis/quadracep tendinitis? Also best exercises for patellar endotorsion? I know I can search youtube for suggestions from other people, but I trust your knowledge more and want to be sure to do them correctly - would be very grateful. If you don't have time to do a video, then maybe a simple descriptive list? Thank you!!!
Thank you. I had an impact trip and fall on concrete 3.5 years ago. I think I was incorrectly diagnosed as X-rays showed no breakage. I did six weeks of uninformed general strengthening, which led to me discontinuing treatment when exercises continued to cause pain. After six weeks, I was expecting some results. I lost 50 lbs, and at a very reasonable weight for my height. I still have knee pain, and take Pilates once a week to strengthen my core and legs. I don’t know what to ask if I go back to an Orthopedic doctor, but, I will study this video and try to pinpoint my pain so I will be able to discuss my pain and triggers with a new doctor. Squats have been very difficult where there was none before, even though I was overweight. Hopefully I at least have a tool to use to communicate what I need. Thanks again.
Thank you for your very interesting and informative video Sir. I am watching it while waiting to see an orthopaedic surgeon this afternoon as my knee collapsed some 6 weeks ago and is unstable and unable to bear wait. It is suspected that I have ruptured my ACL and/or MCL. I bave myelomengocele so of course I aleady have underlying weakness and in fact my other ACL ruptured some years ago and required reconstruction. Only a couple of hours now before I know the resulrs of my MRI and the resulting decision about treatment. Blessings and peace from UK
10 mos. ago I injured my knee by slamming it down twice really hard, putting something in the ground. MRI showed complex meniscus tear, Baker's cyst, bone contusion & loose bodies. 6 mos. later I had surgery a partial meniscectomy & loose body removal. 4 mos. later it's better, but, still hurts. 3 wks. ago I hurt the other knee. I somehow twisted or put a lot of strain on the knee getting up from a low bench.. Extreme pain at times. 10/10. No arthritis in either knee, my DR was surprised, no swelling either time. I have not been to my ortho about this yet. My knee hurts in ALL the places you mentioned. I don't think it's the meniscus. Is there such a thing as all over pain? I am in denial as I cannot accept another injury, as I'm still dealing w/my first one. I've had it. I enjoyed the info, but, watched your video trying to figure out which section my pain is in. I say All of the Above.
I have pain behind my knee and also in the front. I've had an ACL repair many years ago and an arthroscopy more recently. I'm currently doing the GLAD program for knees and hips, which I hope will help. Hope to avoid surgery. Thanks for the video.
This novice finds this video to be stellar in all aspects of the production. Super helpful, subscribed, congratulations on your excellence & efficiency! This will definitely improve my understanding & communications with my Dr. & therapist moving forward.
Well I have all the stuff years ago had a severe accident and a patella luxatie, now years later it’s getting worse I always have done exercises, it helped a lot. There are some things I may not do like jumping, biking and running, an operation is not an option because there is too much gone, a new knee replacement is not possible because there is not enough to keep it in place 😢😢😢
Looks like the area of the inner lower right side of the left knee pain I've been experiencing and reviewing my previous doctor and surgeon notes were correct in that I just needed to strengthen it again as I've been very sedentary for the last few years truthfully. I got hurt during a Amazon delivery driver job where all the up down movement day in and day out result in one day me putting my foot flat on the ground walking back to my vehicle and then suddenly I was in very high pain where I couldn't move my left leg. It's not the first time I've dislocated my knee, it was my other one as a kid growing up playing sports and recovered with physical therapy. As an adult, I can't even afford to have physical therapy or get surgery let alone see a doctor so this really helps me holistically figure out how to self heal on my own. I've mostly recovered and I'd say by this time next year I'll be able to do all of the normal things I did in the past making it a 2 year recovery period in total as I'm mostly but not all the way able to do things like walking downstairs normally, especially with weight and extending it in a seated position.
It looks that some people complain about not having their pain location listed here. Maybe they should listen again to what Dr. Bellemans said @0:30...
Dr Bellemans: I have arthritis & a Baker Cyst on my left knee, When I go to the gym, I ride the stationary bikes & I peddle backwards. Does that help my knees, like walking backwards? Also, if I use the stair master, will that help my knees too?
im 15 and I have some knee pain. When I sleep less it flares up. Its not terrible. I think I might have runners knee or arthritis idk. Its around the bottom of the knee cap. It also goes away almost immediately when I do leg extensions and make the knee burn with excercise.
I've had several of these except for ligament damage. I don't understand why you don't suggest keeping the quads stretched to prevent patella issues or to de-stress the tendons to allow healing
I have severe arthritis in all three compartments with torn menisci and osteocytes and 4 floating ossifications, edema of the femur and tibia. I have been in severe pain for two years and finally went in. I was given a steroid injection. I had exactly one week of any relief and now it’s been a month and I’m back in exactly the same horrible pain. I can not see how cortisone is going to remotely fix my knee. I feel they are just trying to use a bandaid when I need a new knee.
I could really use some help diagnosing what part of my knee is hurting. I have extreme pain when I bend my knee past 110° roughly(like sitting cross legged or squating deep) I also have pain if i over stretch -1° or further(i can go pretty far on my other leg). Very rarely my knee buckles a little backwards and it clicks sometimes when i turn sideways. It was caused by a sharp turn(not too much pressure or speed) when skiing, i did hear a pop when it happened too but was able to ski fine after for a week. It did swell a lot though.
I’m 15 with knee both of my knees I ran cross country for a a whole year for my high school and I started to have knee problems I think number three is what I have right in the middle
I had a very strange event a month ago…I went to just sit on my bed and my knee kind of locked…it wasn’t dislocated as such but I could not move it even a millimeter up down or sideways…I was in absolute agony and I had to go to hospital in an ambulance…the pain was on the right side of my right knee…the pain relief didn’t even touch the sides…my leg had to be held straight out.,go to hospital and they took me to X-ray…with my whole leg supported…then suddenly just a quick as it came on it went back into place…X-ray showed nothing…the relief was instant and I felt 100 percent better…no one can figure out what happened…any ideas🙏🏻

I really need to see a physical therapist because every time i try strengthening my painful knees with following video exercises at home, they get so much worse. I have pain in like half of these places and im sure its because of my foot tending to be turning inwards and some strength issues.
I don’t really know what my pain would be considered, when I squat down and bend my legs it hurts when I get too deep on my right leg, then it really hurts if I push my foot/leg to the right at all. Still can walk perfectly fine and can bend it left just fine, anything would help.
A bad clean gave me a miniscus tear that would lock the knee during sleep. Awful sensation. It generally worked fine all day and i could even squat without pain but full flexion would sometimes be impossible, other times the knee bent fine. It thankfully healed on its own after 6-8 months. (I guess it was minor).
I watched this video to see what my knee pain could potentially be before my Dr's visit. Turns out an MRI concluded I had a lesion on my bone which caused my knee pain. They want to remove the damaged bone and replace it with cadaver bone. Oh joy.
From the video I gather I get Tibiofubular joint pain, a piercing pain on the right knee outside or just below the knee. I get it after lot of hiking on hills. The pain is pronounced when you go down an elevation, even small elevation like 5 degrees, while going up it does not pain. What is the best way dealing with it? any exercises alleviate it? thanks
Greetings Doctor, My left knee always pops whenever I perform squat. There is no pain associated with it. Is it something to get concerned about. I have had this since 8+ years. But now it's just more prominent. I'm 22
That's more than likely your miniscus. Do some backwards sled drags starting with 45 lbs and slowly building. 10 minutes a day 3 days a week. Also look at knees over toes guy sled drags. You'll be fine.
What about the pain at the back of the knee? I get one when i climb stairs by loading the heel. If i climb stairs with the load on fore/mid foot, there is no pain. Thoughts?
I have number 2. On the outside of my right knee I have a bone growing out that's the size of a half golf ball and my knee pain stems from this. Can exercise be a cure for this..
suffering with knee pain...has MRI to rule out meniscus tear, surgeon wrote in report I have no pain, which is incorrect, now lost as to what to do, surgeon not replying to my contact. My appointment with him lasted 5 minutes and not much hands on.
Well we are here because we can't get to see a doctor. Ive been phoning up for months and most times they dont even answer the phone but when they do ,there are no appointments and try again tomorrow.
"Well we are here because we can't get to see a doctor. " When I come to videos like this it is usually because I have found doctors to be uninformed fools that provide superficial and incorrect diagnoses.
I have pain above my kneecap due to chondromalacia and also bone ache at the lateral side on the femur. I don't know if it is due to IT band friction or because of the patellar tilt which I maybe aggravating with cycling. Maybe the IT band friction causes patellar tilt. I am only 52 kgs and 1.74m tall, 44 year old male.

An amazing wealth of information! I can't thank you enough for your time and consideration for all of us with knee pain. Appreciated! ❤
Very clear, very concise, wide-ranging info laid out in an easy-going style. Wish we saw this more often in health-related videos. Thanks.

What exercises please mate
What exercises did you use ?
Which exercises help? Should one exercise even if there's pain?
Which exercises helped?
Which exercise please let me know🙏🙏?
Very clear video. Helped me identify my problem and I was able to fix it
Thank you

Highly recommended for viewing. Very insightful and professionally composed. Thanks for sharing
Dr. Bellemans, could you cover back of the knee pain? I feel it as I come up off a squat or sitting position.
I got TKR in April. I am so glad that I did. I was tired of shots and gels.
Dr Bellemans,
Your videos have greatly helped me with my knee. You are so skilled in anatomy and your detailed analysis and treatment recommendations are explained very well

did they say what caused it?? was it osteoarthritis?

Why nothing on the back of the knee
back of the knee pain is often because of baker's cyst - though you would usually notice a lump on the back of your knee if you have this.
PCL could also be the cause of pain in the back of your knee
What about the pain at the back of the knee? I get one when i climb stairs by loading the heel. If i climb stairs with the load on fore/mid foot, there is no pain. Thoughts?

What about if the pain is in the back of the knee ?
I normally encounter pain at the back of my knee whenever I ran, unfortunately you haven't touched on back knee pain
Yes my question also
If you see any grades of swelling, it could be Backers cyst. Which is treatable.
@@madanagopalrajendiran7279 I have a bone spur which X ray report shows. The back of the knee hurts.

"Well we are here because we can't get to see a doctor. "
When I come to videos like this it is usually because I have found doctors to be uninformed fools that provide superficial and incorrect diagnoses.
what about the back of the knee???
I have pain above my kneecap due to chondromalacia and also bone ache at the lateral side on the femur. I don't know if it is due to IT band friction or because of the patellar tilt which I maybe aggravating with cycling. Maybe the IT band friction causes patellar tilt. I am only 52 kgs and 1.74m tall, 44 year old male.
🪲 Just got a ‘Knee Replacement’💜 It was NOT too bad & my Doctor is AWESOME❤️ TAKE CARE OF YOUR KNEES😘😘😘
