Thank you for the post-op exercises they are just what my doctor told me to do. I had surgery on 1/13/17 and started on the exercises yesterday, three days post-op. They help increase the circulation and prevent me from getting stiff. Anyone who has had knee surgery realizes that we are different and recover in our own time, depending on what kind of surgery. I had three tears in my meniscus, a floating piece of meniscus and a Bakers cyst that inflamed my entire leg, from the top of the knee to the tips of my toes. I did not recognize my own knee and leg. Dr. Ott went in arthroscopically and shaved the torn areas, smoothed them out, removed the fragment and cyst and left as much healthy meniscus as possible. I've always been very active and want to continue my active lifestyle. Now I will adapt and modify so as not to injure the area again. Healthy maintenance.
Good clean video, with no unneccesary babbling. Thank you! Also, to those who say they can't do this in first week Post-op, I started ankle flexing 1 day after arthroscopic surgery, and knee bends 4 days post-op. Today is day 5 and I am following this video. I am age 61. If I can do it, YOU CAN TOO!! Just start slowly, a little each day, and you will notice each day gets easier!
hello, just had my surgery 4 days ago, started with the sheets they gave me and then found this video. this is better as you can see the correct movements. currently I can slowly step down the stairs, slow going but we will see.
I recommend doing leg lifts and holding raised leg to strengthen quad muscle. Start this after 3 weeks of reg. therapy. This cured my tracking problem with the patella. I can now hold leg up 35+ sec. Work up to it slowly. 10 sec, 15 sec. 20 etc. After a month or two of doing this, I am 99% back to normal.
Thank for posting this video, my surgeon gave me a choice to either go to PH therapy or at home or gym exercises. For week one and two I am doing the exercises at home. in 9 days I will be going to the gym and doing what he told me to do at the gym. The day after surgery he told me I could loose the crutches which did. My surgeon was amazing.
thank you for posting these easy, simple exercises. i'm 1 week post op rt. knee scope and i can feel these exercises helping me. my surgeon gave me no directions for stretching or anything. luckily I've been in medical field for 25 yrs and know that in order for my knee to get strong and continue to get better i have to exercise them. thanks again !
Thanks so much! Physical therapy is really expensive and I can't afford it, but I showed my surgeon this video and he said this is perfect. Thanks! I had a knee arthroscopy with partial meniscectomy done and I had to wait until day 3 to do these exercises. Im sure these are helping because every day I wake up I can feel that the swelling has gone down a little and I can walk better.
I'm 62 y.o. had a partial medial meniscectomy ten days ago, was able to bear weight later that day without much incident and did toe/ankle then slowly started partial knee flexion. Three days later could walk without a limp and started performing modified versions of most of these exercises then a few days later increased to all on this video at the end of the week. Doc says to keep my walking down to an hour a day (very hard to stay sedate most all the day) then increase to two hours next week. So here at ten days post-op I have full range of movement with only pangs of pain just after exercising. - certainly less than before the surgery. I'll progress to the next set of exercises recommended here in a few days. I'm confident this combined with the excellent surgery I'll return to work at a physically demanding job at six weeks. Also, ditto on the recommendation of leg lifts (further down the column) for the quads as it really seems to help.
Having this surgery 10 days ago, I have a good amount of my flexion. Developed a DVT and SVT so I had to delay starting by 5 days. Give it two weeks and don't be in a rush. Being within your IBW help tremendously.
People, do these exercises significantly slowly and up to the point where they don't cause you ANY pain (in my case, when I found the point where I felt just a mild discomfort, the next reps after that would just be performed with a slightly smaller Range of Motion, just to be safe). SKIP the exercises which your body complains about! It's OK to be afraid and extra cautious when doing these exercises, nobody is pointing a gun at you to perform them at ease and with the same ROM as this gal... For me, 1st day was HARD, with shitty ROM, 2nd was about the same, 3rd was way better, and after that I was progressing rapidly AF. Now, 2 weeks post op, I feel like I can do Bulgarian Split Squats with weights (though I won't yet, since I don't wanna rush things)! Hope u have a nice recovery!!
my doctor never gave me exercises to do post op, just told me to walk after 5 days but my friend recommended i do these. I was doubtful so i didn't start until day 11 after surgery. I figured it wouldn't be hard since I can already walk pretty well, but i have a noticeable limp, can't bend my knee very far, and have trouble lifting my leg on it's own. Doing these exercises has already helped so much, I've realized I definitely need to be doing these everyday, maybe even twice a day since I've missed out so much already.
Same I have physical therapy appointments scheduled. They wanted me to go twice a week. I made one appt. only. This is what they will most likely have me do. If so not going to return to pt. Thank you for these exercises.
Thanks these are working really well! I had a freak accident and was in an antique shop and I knelt down to pick something up and a sewing needle somehow went strait into my knee bone! They called the surgery knee arthroscopy. I am gradually working on these exercises!
This is awesome! I had a meniscus tear and had arthroscope surgery 3 days ago. Some of these exercises were prescribed by the physiotherapist at the hospital, but you've got a few extra here and I like that it's timed and I can just follow along. One question though, my knee is making a clicking sound in the towel assisted knee mobility. Should I be concerned? Unfortunately I don't get into my own physiotherapist until I'm almost at 2 weeks, so I'm on my own right now.
Yeah my knee is clicking as well, and occasionally locking up and doing a huge crack if i force it! OUCH! Is this shit normal? I was back at work after 4/5 days and now starting rehab at 2 weeks as i have just been so busy with work, what a struggle

I have my PT consultation tomorrow. I am sure most of my routine will be done at home. Just looking at these moves showed me how immobile I have been before surgery and How I dread the pain of healing. But I have to deal with the pain. The whole point of the surgury was to get mobile again
