The V8 isn't able to do that. Then again, it's not built for that either ;) I'll be keeping my 2020 I reckon - an upgrade to a 2023 with 37's is tempting but not tempting enough to make me swap!
The HO 3.5 is really the ideal engine for the Raptor, with plenty of low end torque, great fuel efficiency, and lighter weight up front so you don't pogo as much on hard hits off-road. The TRX is a lot slower bajaing because they added a lot of weight up front without beefing up the shocks.
@@T4nkcommander Raptor R is way over priced and not a massive improvement in performance over the HO 3.5 yet you give up a lot to get the V8. For $50-80k more when you consider ADM on R over standard raptor and 5mpg hit and forced premium fuel...not worth it.

I do have the money, and a Gen 2 Raptor. Not really interested in the R. Like you mentioned it just doesn't offer a significantly better experience over the regular Raptor. I live near a desert playground (Northern NV) and get to open mine up very regularly. I would do more suspension before more power as the 450 HP is not limiting things. On towing, there is a case to be made in towing a travel trailer so you can go set up a base camp near the trails, dunes, beach, etc. you want to run. I used a true tow WDH/Leveling hitch with a 5k lb travel trailer, got the truck level and hit the road. Tows like a champ, 400 mile range, 70+ mph uphill passing slow traffic. Get to the campsite, unhook the trailer, air down and hit the dunes. It'll never be an HD tow pig but it does tow well if you just level it.
@@T4nkcommander That's been the issue with the TRX as well. A friend of mine sold his Gen2 raptor for one and said he loves it on the street but the weight in the front makes it not nearly as good on trail.
@@bigslacker666 I was saying the TRX would be worse off-road way before it came out for exactly that reason. Sure enough, seen it many times in person and on TH-cam - TRX can't keep up off-road because of the weight and relatively small shocks.
One thing I can recommend is when you have an amazing engine like that don't play music over the best part.. that exhaust note! The intro with the truck would have rocked if it was just that V8 screaming
Ron, in all fairness, Ford's been pushing the envelope for decades. Dodge wasn't around when the F150 lightning came out. Dodge wasn't around when ford came out with the Original raptor Over a decade ago. The TRX is an insanely capable and quick vehicle. I think if the raptor never existed, neither would the TRX. Just my opinion.
@@RidersInBlack as a TRX owner I believe you sir are correct. You assessment is spot on. Too many people get caught up in the weeds of bickering due to brand loyalty. I for one am glad these exist and I can tell you the Ram is a blast and the Raptor is the reason.
Ford had a big displacement V8 in an off-road truck. They decided to push the Ecoboost and made it the only option for the Raptor. A V6 in an off road truck makes a lot more sense due to the lighter weight but let's be honest most Raptors and TRX's will not even see a washboard road let alone go off road.
Great video !!! I did have a question, I was wondering with all the tech in the new vehicles which truck in your opinion does best in cold weather situations. Specifically starting and running -15 degrees Celsius.

Crazy how well the TRX did with the 0 to 60 with 7000lbs compared to the Raptor R but then again those hellcat engines have a lot of bottom end where the Raptor R is more top end
@@dor1tomcswagger69 I mean the obvious answer is yes, of course it would but as it sits with only a 10 lb ft difference between the two you have to look at other variables. I think if they would have made it a little more equal, by putting the raptor in 4A, it would have been pretty much equal.
@@dor1tomcswagger69 but then again maybe not, I mean the raptor is pushing way more tire mass. I've never driven either so all I can really speak for is from what I've seen on videos like this and reading the spec sheets

bfg at k03s are terrible mud tires in the sticky stuff. been stuck deep in the east texas forests a few times and i switched to koyo mts. havent been stuck since switching to mts and ive been through much much worse stuff since then
I think something that would look good on the Raptor would be a ram bar but Ford and a tire carrier in the back with 2 tire like a hummer and remove spare tire underneath
A Fantastic job your dad did driving the Raptor R. But for the money if I could afford a new truck I would go for the Ram Power wagon and if I hit the lottery I would go for the TRX!
When are you testing the 0-60 MPH time for the Ford Lightning while towing this 7k lb. trailer. And just curious why you did this test on a curved road?
Most exspensive truck and ford still can give u a rear-end with no rust. Anyways id save my money buy a new truck build it buy a beater like an older tacoma drive that until the build is done and then build the tacoma and still have money left over after the ridiculous mark up every raptor will get
I own a tacoma and have driven several raptors... you're comparing apples and giraffes. to modify a tacoma to perform like a raptor it would probably be cheaper to just buy a raptor LOL

@@davidporter7051 kind of hard seeing as you think fords trim lines offer that much of an advantage off road an f150 with a 5.0 is just fine and will have no issue keeping up with a tremor as for the R well that’s what boost is for also what 5.0 engines like but go on
truly a golden era for big power and capability. the modern power era in American V8s to me goes back to the Terminator mustangs. the Cyclone and Lightning to a lesser extent. the 80s and 90s were mostly a lull for mainstream big power from the factory.
Bad ass truck for sure. I would take any of them. Nothing better then truck talk with your dad. I’ll keep saying they. As much as I love my dad , I never got a chance to talk trucks and cars.
In terms of pricing, everyone complained for years that the Raptor “needs” a V8. Then when Ford takes their absolute top of the line truck and put a V8 in it and it cost 6 figures everyone puts on the surprised pikachu face. The V6 Raptor is more than enough for 95% of truck users. I love mine and can’t justify spending what will probably be around $150k for a V8 truck
$110k for an f150? That's insane. No one is going to be buying that and then dare to take it in mud. I'd like to see this channel have this raptor or trx go off road and then have a base model ram or f150 with some aggressive tires on and see how it compares. Whether all these cameras and features and fancy color combinations make a difference. An $80k difference that is
I think it's a bargain (admittedly I am not in the market for a super truck) - if you were to attempt to build one of these from a stock F150 you would likely spend upwards of $200K and have a hatchet job of a truck when done. This thing is insane and completely drivable, it would probably go 150K miles before needing major service (assuming you don't go crazy off road).
you can punch a Ram 1500 5.7 Limited over 6 figures, a TRX seems like a bargain. Same with the F-150; it's not hard to get a Limited that high. edit: i know this because a hockey buddy was in a motorcycle wreck and used his insurance money to buy a Ram Limited, when he said the price I thought he got a TRX, he did not.
@hissinggoose right, but all I'm saying is I drive a 17 big horn I bought for 23k. I have Goodyear wranglers on them and while I don't do extreme off roading, I've never worried about snow or the muddy road we live on after it rains. Just curious to see how it would stack up on a course they took this truck through.
Its all SALE HYPE. Its all bs. A base truck 4x4 with good tires right driver is just as capable. All these special off road packages are grossly overrated and stupidly overpriced. Its for rich kids who shouldn't have $$$ they have, to make it easier for them to drive off road bc they can't otherwise, and as status symbol.
@@Matts000 same could be said of a Tremor no? I’m perfectly happy with my base F-150 5.0 4wd, not even an FX4. But I’d still rock a Raptor R if given the opportunity, can’t deny the cool factor.

That’s why Dodge clowned Ford by having the TRX eat a Raptor. Ford had time to make it happen but failed. And what’s up with all the v8 graphics videos it should have always been a fuckin v8.
The Offroad capabilities have to the capabilities of the driver. Anything short of an tracked vehicle will get stuck crawling into a frozen ditch full of mud and water. Have fun
I’m glad I’m not the only who noticed that. For the price that should not be happening. My TRX doesn’t look like that and I’ve had it a year and a half. I’ve took it off road many times, never had rust. They should try to remedy that regardless if it has no effect on anything, it looks like crap.
I’ve had two raptors. The front hub problem where the vacuum system fails and causes the hubs to grind against each other while driving plagued both trucks. Two of my friends have raptors, same problem. To this day the dealer ship won’t acknowledge the problem. You can’t see the damage without disassembly. No recalls……… done with ford. Sporting the TRX now……… trust me it’s a way better truck.
People are living in fantasy land if they think gas and diesel vehicles will go away. Reality will sink in at some point that it's just not possible. Our economy will collapse if we keep pushing this insanity. EVs have their place, but it's not goin to happen overnight. I see no reason why we can't have both. Most people don't like this shoved down our throats.Just my opinion. Love the Raptor R. I wish I could afford one. I was glad that Ram built the TRX because I figured Ford would counter it by putting in a V8. I would like to see the godzilla in it though. Ford needs to put that pushrod engine in more of their vehicles, not just the super dutys. Learn from gm with the LS. Flood the market with this engine so they'll be less expensive to purchase in the future.
Nice guys these two. Dad says, “everything begins, everything ends” (referring to ICE engines). That said, these two need to end dinner time early. Damn. Good review.
The consumers need to stop playing the dealer markup game. After a month or two when dealers realize consumers wont purchase markup vehicles they will sell at msrp or less. The market controls prices!🤷🏽♂️
Price is pretty steep not everyone can afford a Raptor let alone a very select few can afford the Raptor R, especially with the economy right now. A Predator crate motor is 28k though so they arnt really up charging from factory since you get the 37 package standard and only options are a bedstep with moonroof and the tailgate step.
New subscriber here from dawson creek bc Canada, this is a sweet truck then you hit the price and think I need to be in the patch to own this thing lol. Great work guys.
So the TRX is still quicker sicker truck. Is a full 1.5 seconds faster to 100km with 7k pounds towing. So I'm thinking the Ram is faster and still more powerful truck? So what am I missing here? Isn't the R supposed to be an answer to the TRX?

@@T4nkcommander That's been the issue with the TRX as well. A friend of mine sold his Gen2 raptor for one and said he loves it on the street but the weight in the front makes it not nearly as good on trail.
@@bigslacker666 I was saying the TRX would be worse off-road way before it came out for exactly that reason. Sure enough, seen it many times in person and on TH-cam - TRX can't keep up off-road because of the weight and relatively small shocks.
Interesting the auto park feature when booking up. How did it know you were perfectly aligned and didn’t need to adjust?
What was it booking? A hotel room?
One thing I can recommend is when you have an amazing engine like that don't play music over the best part.. that exhaust note! The intro with the truck would have rocked if it was just that V8 screaming
Never disappointed on this channel!!!!!…… thanks guys💪💪💪
Always fun to watch these extreme trucks. Going out to get my lotto tickets.
Nicely done Ford. Thank you RAM for pushing the limits for others to follow. Now will a mfr make it affordable. TRX and Raptor-R are collectibles.
@@RidersInBlack All true. I like that RAM put that Demon/RedEye engine in everything. I really like the V8in the Raptor-R, V6 not so much . Thanks 👍
@@PatriotJK1776 so glad you enjoy your truck brother! One day I'll have the pleasure of taking one out for a spin. If I can get my hands on one! Lol
I may be old by the time i hit the lottery but i will one day get a Raptor such an amazing truck and thank you both for taking the time to make this and have fun doing it stay blessed and humble 👊🙏😎
I hope you get that Ford Raptor bro 😎
@@BruceDragon-sf1tr Thanks my friend I hope you have or will have everything you ever wanted we will pray for you either way I appreciate your kind thought's💪🔥🙏😎
Crazy how well the TRX did with the 0 to 60 with 7000lbs compared to the Raptor R but then again those hellcat engines have a lot of bottom end where the Raptor R is more top end
Peak torque comes in lower on the Ford.
@@AK_Ray don't you think if the predator engine had more torque it would have a better 0 to 60 time than the TRX?
@@dor1tomcswagger69 I mean the obvious answer is yes, of course it would but as it sits with only a 10 lb ft difference between the two you have to look at other variables. I think if they would have made it a little more equal, by putting the raptor in 4A, it would have been pretty much equal.
@@dor1tomcswagger69 but then again maybe not, I mean the raptor is pushing way more tire mass. I've never driven either so all I can really speak for is from what I've seen on videos like this and reading the spec sheets
@@dor1tomcswagger69 it on 37 inch tires
Right on!! Howard drives it like a Boss !!...The Elmer course isn't easy..Awesome testing grounds!! Enjoy the day guys!!
Always great videos thanks for going over all the aspects of the vehicles. Raptor R is sick!!!
So...Love the Raptor..Love the V6..love the V8...Love FORD..Owned a 2013 Raptor. Drove it 113K miles...zero issues..until a patrol car T-Boned me.....Mudding? Awesome..will that truck ever be clean again underneath after mudding? Damn...Ordering the 2024 R in September...Gotta Love FORD!
Bad ass truck for sure! I would never be able to beat a truck this expensive off-road though. I’ve got dirt bikes and side by sides for that.
I have a black 2017 I special ordered. I absolutely love my truck but it can be miserable sometimes trying to keep it looking nice while also having fun with it
Excellent video review! Pushing through that ice was amazing and bombing down the farm road was the best!!
I wouldn’t mind paying for that monster! Love it!!
bfg at k03s are terrible mud tires in the sticky stuff. been stuck deep in the east texas forests a few times and i switched to koyo mts. havent been stuck since switching to mts and ive been through much much worse stuff since then
I think something that would look good on the Raptor would be a ram bar but Ford and a tire carrier in the back with 2 tire like a hummer and remove spare tire underneath
Good job old man for getting Steve dirty 🤣.. finally a video showing what the Raptor R is all about .. for the V8 take my money ..
A Fantastic job your dad did driving the Raptor R. But for the money if I could afford a new truck I would go for the Ram Power wagon and if I hit the lottery I would go for the TRX!
Get a Ford or Chevy, Dodge trucks are junk after 6 years
I’m a v8 lover for sure and I have no doubt it will never end, where they are people to buy something there will be someone to make it.
Great video you showed how most would use this Raptor.
That thing is bad ass... Sounds proper and did not slow for any of the obstacles. I would pay what they are asking for sure.
last time i asked about the TRX with one dealer in Toronto, the price is close 15k for 2022 model. So the pirce to Raprtor R is same
DAMN!! My 2007 chevy tahoe 5.3L tows 8200 max....love that they put the V8 back in the Raptor though! Probably would buy that over the TRX...
When are you testing the 0-60 MPH time for the Ford Lightning while towing this 7k lb. trailer. And just curious why you did this test on a curved road?
We will be doing the Lightning 0-60 in mid-January. As for the curved road - that day it was where we got the strongest WiFi signal.
I would love a truck like this parked in my driveway, but I'll settle for a regular f150 with the Lariat 502a package as that what I have already
But an awesome review truck King
I love how the old man uses the mirrors and his neck when backing up instead of the 12 cameras available to him! lol.
Great 👍 review and show ! Lol my regular F150 with a 5.0 V8 can tackle most terrain but she would definitely have it's limits compared to the Raptor .
Off road a regular F150 doesn't compete with the Tremor let alone a Raptor R.
@@davidporter7051 calm down
@@leonseed4464 please post a logical reply.
@@davidporter7051 kind of hard seeing as you think fords trim lines offer that much of an advantage off road an f150 with a 5.0 is just fine and will have no issue keeping up with a tremor as for the R well that’s what boost is for also what 5.0 engines like but go on
@@leonseed4464 you really posted nonsense. And no the F150 stinks off road. TFL and Edmunds demonstrated how inadequate the regular F150 is.
truly a golden era for big power and capability. the modern power era in American V8s to me goes back to the Terminator mustangs. the Cyclone and Lightning to a lesser extent. the 80s and 90s were mostly a lull for mainstream big power from the factory.
Bad ass truck for sure. I would take any of them. Nothing better then truck talk with your dad. I’ll keep saying they. As much as I love my dad , I never got a chance to talk trucks and cars.
Nice review..I’m still gonna be holding on my 2021 raptor v6 it’s my weekend toy hauler
Look at how much rust underneath already, Jeeez
110K is for a TRX
Just in case your wondering it’s starting at 109k online which is never tru . Meaning by the time it’s a car lot 140k+ .. that’s dumb
I love Raptors, but that’s an absurd price. Just get a F150 tremor with a 5.0L and put a Whipple on it.
Then you’d have a Tremor with more power, but not the offroad prowess this has.
@@ALMX5DP I no but how many people are actually going to off-road a Raptor R hard? Not to many I’d be willing to guess.
@@Matts000 same could be said of a Tremor no? I’m perfectly happy with my base F-150 5.0 4wd, not even an FX4. But I’d still rock a Raptor R if given the opportunity, can’t deny the cool factor.
@@ALMX5DP that’s true the street presence would be insane, there’s no denying that. Lol good point.
@@ALMX5DP a regular f150 4x4 has plenty of off road prowess. With good tires. If you know how to drive can go through everything off road on this video no problem. Which is all you need in a daily driver anyway.
"The back end squats and it looks funny" hilarious because some people want this look with the truck unloaded lmao
Nice! Love the V8 rumble! Totally impractical for truck needs but soooo much fun!
CANT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO REALLY TEST THE TREMOR MAVERICK
I’ve owned three raptors and sadly this truck is way to expensive!! I will keep my 2019 802 A package with recaro seats and tech package….. raptor is king though
Thanks Steve and Howard. I like the Ford but would buy the TRX at the lower price.
Yes.....that will be how it is with many folks.
Not only that, the TRX beers the R from a dig
@@joemomma707
True.... but the RaptorR is pulling those 37's vs 35 inch tires. It makes a bit of difference. The TRX does have nice lower end torque.
@@joemomma707 but on a roll it pulls away from trx . Mine is kn order and I worked my ass off to get it with help from wifey but I will admit it will never see anything like that in its life 🤷🏾

It cost more
No launch control
Smaller engine
Less hp
Less tq
The only thing it has going for it is that it looks better.
It barely beats the TRX from a roll. Barley.
Ford fucked up
They should have made sure the R murders the the TRX. Just like Dodge made sure the TRX would murder the Raptor, and it did. That’s why Dodge clowned Ford by having the TRX eat a Raptor. Ford had time to make it happen but failed. And what’s up with all the v8 graphics videos it should have always been a fuckin v8.
Great review! Thank you Guys 👍
The launch control on the trx is what makes it so quick
Awesome video, just one question which one has to detail the truck before you give it back 😂
14:55 only using the mirrors, like a boss.
The Offroad capabilities have to the capabilities of the driver. Anything short of an tracked vehicle will get stuck crawling into a frozen ditch full of mud and water. Have fun
You need to pit the TRX and the RaptoR side by side
TRX will Destroy The Raptor R
Awesome video info guys!
And the Oscar goes, TRUCK 👑
What mode was it in when doin the 0-60
I'm a GM guy but I have to say this has my attention. I won't get out of retirement to afford $110,000.
The best truck channel on TH-cam hands down.
Like the other f150's that axel gets rusty as shit pretty quick.
I’m glad I’m not the only who noticed that. For the price that should not be happening. My TRX doesn’t look like that and I’ve had it a year and a half. I’ve took it off road many times, never had rust. They should try to remedy that regardless if it has no effect on anything, it looks like crap.
Raptor R the R stands for rust
I love my 2022 6.2 trail boss custom.
Well the Raptor R is made for going fast off road in sand dunes so the suspension is soft and will squat when there's a trailer hooked up to it
Did yous air down at all, or were yous at full road psi for all the tests?
Great Video! Beast of a Truck!
In the trench maybe if you turne me left down rather than keeping wheel straight would have climbed out. Obviously if sliding do turn in
Best channel on TH-cam
Nice review keep up the good work truck king
Thanks, will do!
Dude a 100k. 1 day this world will be unlivable
I think all things considered, price, looks, comfort, interior, ground clearance, speed, sound, I'm leaning towards the Raptor R instead of the TRX
Awesome truck. Awesome video. Good job guys!!👍👍
Awesome video fellas. Merry Christmas
Same to you
Nice guys these two.
The market controls prices!🤷🏽♂️
except they are all limited in production numbers. Did the Ford GT go down or up up up in every generation?
Crazy that the R is $50k more than a TRX and both are comparable in stats. The R is definitely not worth the price.

So the TRX is still quicker sicker truck. Is a full 1.5 seconds faster to 100km with 7k pounds towing. So I'm thinking the Ram is faster and still more powerful truck? So what am I missing here? Isn't the R supposed to be an answer to the TRX?
great video and feedback. So true ...V8 is V8
11:20 - 11:49 Bro, really? You have All-Terrains not Mud tires. I was actually impressed it made it out, you can see the passenger rear tire all the way up in the wheel arch meaning the other side is probably in the air.
