I'm really between the chairs. I love the supercharger whine of the TRX and the aggressive look, but I also love the R. At the moment, I can't decide which one I would buy. The plus for the TRX, is the much better availability here in Germany (imported from the US), compared to the Raptor R (also import) with the long wait list in the US. Right now, I could get the 2023 TRX in the Havoc Edition for €147.900, but no dealership has the 2023 Raptor R available and when asked, they sometimes predict the price to be €200.000 to €250.000, which is insane. In case you are wondering, importing Pickup Trucks is pretty expensive here in Germany. Transport & Insurance is about €3000 to €5000. We have to pay 22 % customs penalty for importing a Pickup Truck and at the end, the total sum gets also 19 % VAT on top. So the 2023 TRX Havoc Edition, for €147k, is a fantastic price.
For some reason I enjoyed the videos on the Trex so much more. It was such a fun truck. Maybe it was because it was the first to really put out the crazy horsepower. Great video guys. You ought to check up on the old truck and see how it's doing.
the TRX starts at $86k and there are ones available for MSRP. The Raptor R starts at $110K and there isn't anybody getting that price unless they have million TH-cam followers. I'd take the TRX for now.
People say that the TRX brought out the v8 in the Raptor, but wasn't it already planned by Ford to bring out the v8 considering the chassis was already built before the TRX, they even had plans for it before the TRX was introduced since the Raptor came out before. The R came after but that still means the only thing they changed was the engine, it always was overbuilt to prepare itself to have a v8
@@bryanhersman4037 Well yea that's basically the case. People claim the TRX brought about the V8 super truck, but that already existed as the 6.2L Raptor existed. If a super truck is defined by it having high horsepower from a massive v8 engine and is a off road ready truck than the Raptor fits all of that criteria even if the TRX has more HP, because at the time of the 6.2L Raptor it was the highest hp for a truck of that time and it was the only truck of that time with that much hp and capability off road to match. So basically Ford already had it all yet people claim the TRX is the one to had done it.
Worse thing the big 3 ever did was run the exhaust straight out the back on trucks. Dual exhaust that have been ran straight out the back has been getting mangled for decades on trucks. First thing I ever did to a truck that had the duals running straight out the back was have them changed to come out at a angle to the sides behind the tires more out of harms way. But new trucks has indentations in the rear bumper to where it would look stupid moved.
Reducing air pressure (air down) the tires would avoid tires spinning and would allow "crawling" up and also improve traction over all on this type of terrain.
For all you Ford fan boys, all you need is to watch 19:50-20:23 and you can see how much more the TRX is. Sledgehammer is obviously much more satisfying.
I'm with Tommy, $110,000 is just too much money. Really all trucks are too expensive. Hopefully the prices can come down at some point. Why is a XLT with V8, off road package, 5 1/2 bed, center console, and leather seating $65k? Just insane!
Yup. I was just thinking my 2018 Lariat had a sticker a little over $60k, which was a lot then, but with little haggle and incentives was $48k plus tax and fees. If I build the same truck now its $75k and little to no inventives. A base Raptor in 2018 was $52k also. I could afford a new one but its such a waste of money. Ford needs to bring back a more entry level Raptor with a 5.0 for the $60k range.
What i love about these guys is you know theyre the dweebs that werent popular in high school, considered nerds probably, and have made a living out of it. I love the fact that you guys actually take these high dollar performance trucks off-road and use them as intended. At first I thought as well that they should've done more with the Raptor R other than a badge, some stickers and a slightly bigger cowl. However, I've changed my mind. I love the subtlety. For one, I'm not a huge fan of gawdy trucks. Just look at that trend of putting on low pro tires on huge, wide wheels and putting on underglow. Not for me, sorry. I really don't feel like I need to announce to anyone else what I'm driving. If they know, they know. I think it looks way classier keeping it subdued. Plus, think of this. 20+ years down the road, these will be rare trucks indeed. I like the fact that you'll have to get a little closer to it see if this actually a Raptor R or "just" a Raptor. Think like Grand National vs. GNX and you'll get the vibe. Also, I'm totally with Tommy on manufacturers producing a more budget minded off-roader. Think of like a combination of a F-150 XL and Raptor. Keep the suspension, all the off-road goodies, and a high performance engine. That may even be desirable for some businesses that need a more rugged and off-road worthy truck that need to get to places that are off the beaten path. And yes, Roman, to your point, you can go buy an older generation Raptor and save money, but there is something to be said about buying a new pickup. Sometimes it's just nice having a new truck. Everything is clean, nice, not worn, and by being the only owner, you know how it's been taken care of.
The TRX not only has a better supercharger whine, the exhaust also sounds better. It sounds muted from the inside because of good sound deadening, but make no mistake, outside, the TRX roars like a hellion unleashed - a thunderous proclamation of unbridled ferocity.
So why did you only rev to a low RPM in the quiet mode but once you got to off-road mode you almost tripled the revs? Doesn't really give a good one-to-one comparison on the difference in exhaust
I love both truck but until Dodge takes a factory TRX and runs it in the BAHA 1000 and can place 3 or better overall then the Raptors will still be the better of the two trucks but I can’t see Dodge ever putting it to the test
MSRP between Raptor and TRX are close. However dealers sell Raptor R with market adjustments of $90k to above $100k; Fortunately TRX can purchase below $10k below MSRP or at MSRP. No brainer to spend another 6 figures for Raptor R.
Incredible! I understand that it is a limited production vehicle but nearly doubling the price only cements consumer's opinions that many dealers deserve never to be trusted. I wish the reviews from TFL would acknowledge the reality of pricing for the public for the Raptor R that is in their fleet. A vehicle that they purport to only cost $114K that most likely bypassed any involvement from a dealer.
I’ve taken both off-roading and from what I can say is that the Raptor r is better, especially for rock crawling. Every inch of clearance or suspension travel counts when off-roading and the raptor beats the TRX in all of those.
Drove both raptor felt way less responsive. TRX had way more clearance. 🤷♂️ Never see raptors off-road when I do they’re being towed out unfortunately. Always tacos tundras rams. Floridas terrain is more muddy tho and just my opinion. Raptor is a hell of a machine tho.
@@JamiesonWilliams-xp7bp we all got our different opinions but I felt that the raptor felt more responsive… I think it’s cause it weighs less but steering felt better and it was easier to get moving. The raptor does have better clearance though one of the reasons why I bought it. One thing I miss about my TRX though is that it’s way louder, sounds more aggressive.
The reason it is so much more expensive than a “base” TRX is because Raptor Rs come with every option as standard. If you check every box on a TRX I think it’s about $106,000.
Love both trucks neither loses here. The TRX sounds better coming at you with the supercharger whine and all. While the Raptor R sound better pulling away from you, with it's more higher pitch race sound exhaust. As far as looks, TRX definitely has more presence and it's bigger as a T-Rex should be. I wish Ford did something more to the cosmetic of the Raptor R. And it's more agile and quicker as a Raptor should be.
Fords trucks are always better performance, better quality, better reliability than Dodge. They just not on Fords level. Instead of Dodge trying to carve out a unique "off road" truck of their own. They just took a Ford play by play and still losing.
Great video Roman/Tommi/Kase , i would still buy theTRX if i could afford one, My dentist here in Manitoba just got his 2023 TRX loaded just not that ultra fancy one and paid sticker for it and it was a factory order, he has had it for 4 months at the end of July and has already 12,000kms/7500 miles on it and loves it and also purchased the longest most expensive extended warranty from Dodge he could, it is an expensive truck and repairs could be pricey, I think the colour is gunmetal grey, he luvs it especially the exhaust note, and said it still burns less gas than his 454 powered stern drive boat does,LOL, 👍
LMAO...try getting your hands on a Raptor R for $110,000. Dealer ADM's our insane on these trucks. My last three trucks were Fords including a Gen. 2 Raptor. After my dealer told me the mark up was going to be anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000 I opted out and just bought a 2023TRX. Whatever marginal difference the R has over the TRX in no way warranted that price premium. Besides, the TRX is a better looking truck.
You can't purchase a Raptor R at list. I just checked. The minimum markup was $20K up to $70K. There are less than a dozen in "being shipped" status nationwide. The waitlist is very long. There are over 600 TRXs available some with mark up, some at MSRP and some below MSRP. You said the price for the Raptor R was $111K. Maybe that price is available for a dedicated off-road channel but not for the 1% that can afford a Raptor R. Ford is pricing themselves out of the market for trucks, suvs and EVs even after the recent price cuts.
Roman is right, when you compare to porsche etc it makes more sense. I do think ford should make a supercharged v8 version with the rear coils that's more for street/towing and less offroad.
Agreed, this is still cheaper than a base 911, much more practical if you exclude MPG or urban parking, and just as likely to see off-road as a 911 is to see a track. At the end of the day they are just toys, and as such, the Raptor R's competition is way broader than just the TRX. Reminds me of what they used to say a Jeep Wrangler's primary competitors were... a Jet Ski or a Mistress.
@@chrisgill7824 yeah just won't have the beefier transmission, transfer case, rear coils or 60k warranty. but year a 5.0 tremor with supercharger is probably going to be popular.

Agree with Tommy. A Raptor without all the jewelry and lip stick would be perfect. Would be nice to have a truck that can be used as envisioned without worrying about getting a run in its panty hose or breaking a nail.
Used to 30-40k for a truck? Hell no. I remember years ago when TFL truck started complaining that 60-70k for a heavy duty pickup was way too much. 50k for a decently equipped half-ton. That was literally near the beginning of the channel. You guys said it was inflation and I kept arguing that yes, it's inflation but it was self imposed because back then the price to manufacture hadn't changed and the average American wage hadn't changed. Wages are still basically the same and vehicles have gotten more expensive. The dealer markups are disgusting. I love the vehicles but I'd literally have to take out a second mortgage to get one. The only thing good that's changed is our house was just under 300k and now it's worth almost 600k. No way I borrow against that though. I'll move in about five years and pay cash for most of it and probably get a used pickup.

R1T destroys both. And its cheaper
I went to the EU (Germany, Italy, and Spain) and a compact suv like a rav4 barely fit, I wonder how this would do

Excellent video fellas
For some reason I enjoyed the videos on the Trex so much more. It was such a fun truck. Maybe it was because it was the first to really put out the crazy horsepower. Great video guys. You ought to check up on the old truck and see how it's doing.
Power is only as good as the chassis it’s bolted to.
the TRX starts at $86k and there are ones available for MSRP.
@@raionshishi8290 the Raptor was a V8 before it wasn't a V8. My dentist has a 6.2L Raptor. I wish they still made that truck.
Excellent video fellas 👏 Beast of a truck for sure!
What a monster this baby is ❤
Go to Harbor Freight buy a tri ball and put it upside down in the hitch an ruin a $25 hitch ball not a $110,000 truck.....
Or buy a hitch slider
Worse thing the big 3 ever did was run the exhaust straight out the back on trucks. Dual exhaust that have been ran straight out the back has been getting mangled for decades on trucks. First thing I ever did to a truck that had the duals running straight out the back was have them changed to come out at a angle to the sides behind the tires more out of harms way. But new trucks has indentations in the rear bumper to where it would look stupid moved.
Smart mf
Reducing air pressure (air down) the tires would avoid tires spinning and would allow "crawling" up and also improve traction over all on this type of terrain.
For all you Ford fan boys, all you need is to watch 19:50-20:23 and you can see how much more the TRX is. Sledgehammer is obviously much more satisfying.
I'm with Tommy, $110,000 is just too much money. Really all trucks are too expensive. Hopefully the prices can come down at some point. Why is a XLT with V8, off road package, 5 1/2 bed, center console, and leather seating $65k? Just insane!
Not too expensive to those that can afford it - it's all relative
Don't hold your breath, they won't, unless you dethrone the ruling elite who have enslaved the world via the evil banking system.
Talking about your original Raptor took me back to old videos on Goldmine Hill and the Raptor Rescue videos. Good stuff!

What i love about these guys is you know theyre the dweebs that werent popular in high school, considered nerds probably, and have made a living out of it. Most of us will wheel with what we have and thats not your market. Cheers!
The point is he got the R for $110k. Nobody else will for less than $150k.
It is not worth that money
What happened to the used AEV Wrangler that you guys bought? It disappeared...
Tommy and kase in a off-road video I’m happy. The goats of Tfl.
These videos are for entertainment purposes only! 95% of people who own a six figure truck (like myself) will never, ever take it off road! That’s why smart people buy a Polaris or a CanAm to play off road! My 2022 TRX Havoc Edition will never seen off road. It stays on toad and in the garage next to my ZL1/1LE and my Shelby Super Snake. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don’t get the point. Is it a fragile toy?
Ford should name their next truck called “Astroid”.
killing off the Trx & Raptors.
The raptor started the game and I’m glad to see them keep improving. Boss ass truck!
I’m not knowledgeable about the EPA guidelines but would a NA 5.0 v8 with cylinder deactivation be more fuel efficient than a v6 tt?
They say money doesn't buy happiness but I've never seen a sad guy driving a TRX or a Raptor R.
raptor r all day honestly i would take a tuned v6 raptor over trx. But nope best way to go is buy a 35k v8 f150 for 35 to 55k and the coyote just needs boost and fuel. which means 15 to 20k for that and another 5 to 10k for a street or offroad suspension depending what you are into. and a coyote can make up to 1200whp on stock sealed engine and watch midnight performance they make so many stock sealed coyote f150s that run 8s in the 1/4 mile which is faster than multi million dollar bugattis and other Ferrari and lambos that are even modded a awd coyote f150 with a big turbo blows them away light to light
So which one is the "clearly better" one ?

What is the name of this trail?
It annoys my ocd that Ford made different "R" red. On the bedsides its (R)aptor, and on the tailgate it is Rapto(R)
The bed sides it is red on the back R. Rapto(R) on drivers side and (R)aptor on passenger side.
How much energy is released during the decay of a deuterium nucleus?
Forget that give me a stripped down raptor with the 7.3l.
When is the Colorado ZR2 going to take on MOAB?
I really wish you guys would not stick the mic in the exhaust when rev'ing. Hold it back 3ft so it doesn't over drive it into static.
You gradually rev'd it higher after each exhuast mode change..... amazing test
Yeah! I want more Raptor R!! It doesn’t get old, keep up the videos and conversation about this super truck please
The TRX not only has a better supercharger whine, the exhaust also sounds better. It sounds muted from the inside because of good sound deadening, but make no mistake, outside, the TRX roars like a hellion unleashed - a thunderous proclamation of unbridled ferocity.
Sounds like my ex-wife...
I forgot, supercharger whine and slightly different exhaust really helps it on offroad trails!
@@samuelisch2196 Sure, because most buy these trucks for their off-road prowess, not their cool quotient.
I like it. I really like that they put 37s on it. I like the TRX too. The Raptor R though is just way too expensive.
I love the sound of the exhaust I would be leaving that exhaust mode in the loudest all the time😅😅😅
Raptor R is way better. I have a Raptor SVT so, I'm a bit partial as well. 🖤🧡
So why did you only rev to a low RPM in the quiet mode but once you got to off-road mode you almost tripled the revs? Doesn't really give a good one-to-one comparison on the difference in exhaust
Could you do the rubicon trail in this truck?
Where's the TRX ?
You cannot get the Torsen Front locking differential in the Raptor R?

@10:30... WTF is an Aptor???
I love both truck but until Dodge takes a factory TRX and runs it in the BAHA 1000 and can place 3 or better overall then the Raptors will still be the better of the two trucks but I can’t see Dodge ever putting it to the test
TRX all day...... Raptor way too expensive. Ford is just a follower.
I still think the price is way too high even with all that technology. You're still better off building your own dedicated offroader.
Wish Ford could make the Raptor R more available so these dealers would stop adding these ridiculous ADMs.
MSRP between Raptor and TRX are close. However dealers sell Raptor R with market adjustments of $90k to above $100k; Fortunately TRX can purchase below $10k below MSRP or at MSRP. No brainer to spend another 6 figures for Raptor R.
How long do you think it will be before you get to try a Ranger Raptor? Half the price.
dealer markup will put them well over sticker........
@@lrlapua8035 I'm hearing from a lot of guys that are getting them at sticker. Some between 5-10k over.
"Haha it's america dude!" Yessssss.
I’ve taken both off-roading and from what I can say is that the Raptor r is better, especially for rock crawling. Every inch of clearance or suspension travel counts when off-roading and the raptor beats the TRX in all of those.
No TRX has more clearance
No one does this math lol
Wish GM would give Silverado ZR2 the same treatment as Raptor and TRX get.
You can always change the exhaust note
Lol
The 2024 R is redesigned
I love both and can afford neither
Ever since the first gen Raptor came out, I was in love with this truck. When I am ready to get a truck, this will be my first and last choice.
Excited to see the ranger raptor at some point since that’s the one I get to buy no f150 here
Where’s the TRX? Which one is better and why?
Punctuation.
I like how the starter sounds like the old Triton 5.4/4.6 starting up.
A sad thing you said most those trucks don’t see dirt lol
I still haven’t even found a Raptor R on the lot yet?
You can't purchase a Raptor R at list. I just checked. The minimum markup was $20K up to $70K. There are less than a dozen in "being shipped" status nationwide. The waitlist is very long.
There are over 600 TRXs available some with mark up, some at MSRP and some below MSRP. You said the price for the Raptor R was $111K. Maybe that price is available for a dedicated off-road channel but not for the 1% that can afford a Raptor R. Ford is pricing themselves out of the market for trucks, suvs and EVs even after the recent price cuts.
Just saw one had a 100k markup! 214k! Insane
Plus the MSRP on the TRX is $22k less to begin with
You guys forget about the red tow hooks? Easiest way to spot an R.
I think it’s cool that the R is a little bit of a sleeper
Roman is right, when you compare to porsche etc it makes more sense. I do think ford should make a supercharged v8 version with the rear coils that's more for street/towing and less offroad.
Agreed, this is still cheaper than a base 911, much more practical if you exclude MPG or urban parking, and just as likely to see off-road as a 911 is to see a track. At the end of the day they are just toys, and as such, the Raptor R's competition is way broader than just the TRX.
Reminds me of what they used to say a Jeep Wrangler's primary competitors were... a Jet Ski or a Mistress.

How is this the harder trail, your back yard farm track is harder then this ?
Agree with Tommy. A Raptor without all the jewelry and lip stick would be perfect. Would be nice to have a truck that can be used as envisioned without worrying about getting a run in its panty hose or breaking a nail.
FORD fired dad one day... The bitter for ford... let it go...
This dude wants to pay 55k for a supercharged truck dude come on its 2023 not 1970
Used to 30-40k for a truck?
So much technology and engineering that it's basically completely unaffordable...Tommy's got it right. The Few, The Proud, The Rich.
Tommy is being very hopeful. A 4x4 super crew work truck with a v8 will run close to 50k

The raptor r sounds great. I think Ford has the best sounding V8’s. Roman seems to be getting grouchy 😂
So here is the problem I have with the Raptor/R, they look just like a normal F150, where the body on the TRX is unique to the TRX. It is not bad but a preference.
Every panels is different width wise. So is the suspension. Stupid comment of the day right here.
@@arod6789 yet driving down the road, they look just like an F150. Maybe not side by side but they don’t stand out. Just like for did with the first Lightning back in the 90s. This just looks okay to me.
