- I got these parts very cheap. i paid 217 euro for all including the 970
Here are all the upgrades:
cpu: 2630qm 2-2.9ghz - 2760qm 2.4-3.5ghz
ram: 12gb 1867mhz corsair- 16gb 2133mhz hyperx
ssd: samsung 830 - samsung 850 evo
gpu: gt 540m - msi 960 but now msi gtx 970
psu: dell da2 220w - coolermaster b400 v2 400w for the egpu
this is like watching a father that cannot let his son go and the father is a mad scientist that used advanced technology to keep his son alive
if you change all parts in your laptop over time then is it still the same laptop?
the laptop type is the same, but the specs ain't, if you put 1000 hp in a golf mk1, it's still a golf mk1 i'd say, i think a laptop makes it what it is by it's own limit, the motherboard supports for some reason my 2133mhz 16gigs or ram and the 2760qm (even though it shouldn't), also egpu is also supported so i'd say it's the same laptop but on life support haha, but it's more like a cyborg because it's not "being kept alive" but actually incrases its power to a level it never had :D
you are very determined to prolong your hardware's life and for that i salute you. most people just keep their machine in a box(or even worst in the trash) never to be used again and buy a new one. but your sir, you gave it new stage of life like some sort of metamorphosis
oh yeah why put something away when it still can be used, even if i do one day stop using this laptop, i'm still gonna salvage anything i can from it, the 1080p panel will be good as a diy monitor and of every part inside of my upgrades will go towards a future build!, everything can always be used in some way! my only issue with this much power in this old of a laptop was that the cooling was not build for it, it runs 4x 3.2ghz instead 2.6 which made it run at like 93c but i got that sorted too :D so horaay for a succesfull upgrade :D
have you tried undervolting the CPU? i really recommend that to get the best temp possible. maybe even lower the clock speed just a bit can impact the performance. you should do careful research before attempting this though
Why not just get a desktop?
because i paid 217 euros for all the upgrades including a gtx 970, a desktop would cost me 1k (it will i know what's up), and i don't need it at all. this laptop performs better than i need it to, it runs gta 5 50+ fps at maxed settings, tomb raider at 40-60 fps at maxed settings and doom at 60-110 fps, and here's the full joke, I DONT GAME, i don't need this performance. but i got real good deals on all the parts, and it shows what can be done, this laptop will surffice my needs for the next 3 years atleast.
526 is still more than double then what i've paid. and that's secondhand i'd say. my ram/psu/ssd were brand new. and i got them so cheap it's not even funny. also your pentium g4600 is just barely above my 2011 cpu. if i'd invest in a desktop i'd not invest that much money on getting 10% faster. i'd go decently up. meaning 4790k or higher. why would i spend that much money to get what i already have? again this laptop is faster then i need it. i don't game. i don't stream. i don't even render my videos on my laptop. please go do a userbenchmark on your setup. and post the result, please. i really want to see. the cheapest i could find from all the parts you have, i come to a total of 708 euro in the netherlands, i took a gamble on the ram, and took 1866mhz 16gb which is low. because i run 16gb 2133mhz and took the cheapest of that i could find for 120. i need the 16gb of ram for cemu. still means my setup was much cheaper for nearly the same performance, i still really want a userbenchmark from your setup
Lel, I got G4600 for $90, H110 motherboard for $40 (used), 16gb ddr3 for $80(used), GTX 1050 Ti for 130, add a 450w psu for $40 then I got a PC. It can out perform yours since the CPU is better and no bottleneck even if you game. Sorry to say this, if you have to buy used, buy used PC components, not laptop.

yes but he means it's a general thing, people indeed often say "desktop are better, laptop's can't be upgraded" and yes that is stated by many idiot's who think they know stuff, i have many of those commenting on my video's, telling me that i could have taken the money i spend to upgrade (which is 217 euro's but they don't know, they just think they know it all) and tell me what killer desktop i could have build with that money, it's so stupid haha

What impossible is, most of the newest laptop today have been soldered together between the CPU and GPU with the motherboard, so it's impossible. But, back in the day, Laptop are upgradable because they were MXM type where GPU didn't soldered together with the CPU if I'm not mistaken

Michael Street seems like you don’t know what Frankenstein is, this is not about repair. Its about taking bunch of stuff that does not belong together and make it 1 odd creation that still works. A desktop gpu on a laptop, as example. You should look up what frankenstein is. Its a tale about a guy who build something like a zombie from different parts, his creation is called frankenstein.

I get what you guys mean but also those external gpu's are made universally for laptops
this ain't one of those. those use thunderbolt. that are the "regular egpu's" i don't have a thunderbolt port, also i gave the gpu as example. my keyboard is backlit, which i did, my laptop does not come with a backlit keyboard, i've made a grill under the cooler to pull more air together with my external vacuum cooler. i've switched all the colors from white to green on all led's etc etc etc, there is a full list, that make this something it shouldn't be :P it's painted, it has a apple logo that lights up bla bla bla you get the point, btw my n3ds is far more impressive.

Dude you've got to teach us how to this stuff in a full on guide! Like "How to upgrade your laptop for dummies" and really get into all the details. Maybe even get a more recent budget laptop and turn it into a beast? Just an idea. I would definitely try this if you have a step by step tutorial :)

@@Gagliano17 When it comes to a high refresh rate or high resolution, you will need an eDP port. if you have LVDS or any proprietary port, you're out of luck. You can try to use an external monitor with the GPU or if you have DP port on your laptop to see if you can achieve a high resolution/refresh rate.
If you can't do any of these things, you can try installing CRU monitor to attempt to overclock your display panel. I had a 2009 Alienware M15X and i overclocked the refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz with minor color defects. I also got 2560x1440 with 29Hz interlaced. So, luck may be on your side.

People like why not get a desktop? Because not everyone like sitting in one spot all the time and maybe people need a laptop on the go and when they get home it's they pc plugging it into a gpu etc. It's they preference not yours.
yeah and i had the laptop already, it was just the best option, ditching the laptop and building a desktop now would have not been smart, the gpu and psu will be good for a future build. i'll build a desktop, but not because i need it more for funs, and for the people that depend on laptops, this video shows what is possible

I have upgraded my old desktop pc with an lga 1155 motherboard 4gb ram and an pentium g2030, i upgraded the case bought an i7 2600 with an coolermaster masterliquid ml120 rgb cooler, added an extra 4gb of ram an 240gb ssd and last but not least an rx 570 gpu a rgb strip for like €10 and a 500w bequeit psu in total everything cost me around €360, its pretty sexy looking since the case is sleek but still has good cable management some rgb effects and a big window, in my situation this was better than what you did but everyone has different preferences. the price is high because i live in the Netherlands, the only pre owned thing in this build is the cpu. it is performing like a beast even with the newest AAA games i can play at v.high settings at 60fps and lighter games like gta 5,bf 5 and cs it just absolutely crushes. What you did was also awesome btw dont look at this as me flexing im just showing what i did with a shitty old pc😀
Btw i live also in the netherlands, people have this urge to replace stuff, rather than investing in to it with a bit of money and time, its insane what can be achieved

+Mohrez N thunderbolt does not decrease the performance at all, i’m running it by a mini pci-e slot and even that does work good, check my last video out, it’s called about bottlenecking i explain there
it bottlenecks in high end cpus. but yea being able to run desktop gpus has been an option for so log...was easier when they had the mini pci ports on the side.. who needs wifi when you could just get a gpu +P
wifi can be replaced easy with a usb dongle too, or just a cable :), i have made a hole in my cover so i can plug the pci-e in fast

It May be soldered to the motherboard, but u can probably hook up an external gpu through the WiFi card slot. Then use an ethernet cable.

i know im a little late on this but you say that you got this stuff for a laptop because it was cheaper and that buying stuff for a desktop would cost more but all of that stuff you bought would go in a desktop except the ram. you basically bought everything you need to build a desktop (if you count the fact that you've bought 2 replacement motherboards) and you would have probably spent the exact same thing with maybe the exception of a little more or little less on ram depending on what you buy.... i mean with the fact that it is running off of a desktop graphics card and psu at this point it already basically is a desktop just with lower limitations....
svelteknave 89 only thing I can say is a pro is portability maybe I guess idk what this monster is, desktops are FAR cheaper then all of these trust me. That laptop alone looks like about $400+ with everything else $550
And a good desktop for 1080p gaming easily $300-$500
@@shawndickerson3109 i had this processor, it has heat issues, 32nm, its slow and goes quickly to thermal throttling. I'm glad he's happy, i was not sold it and bought new 6gen i7. It's so much better and quiet.

for the size this laptop has, the cpu performance is more then impressive, it's really neat what this 2011 thing is still capable off, most of the "buy a desktop" comments are done by sheep who don't use logic and just follow the mainstream trend where the laptop vs desktop shit is going on, just like the samsung apple bs.
i don't game at all. but here's the thing, i don't care where my cpu is located. if it's in a ugly square box. or under my keyboard in a laptop. as long as it does what i need it to do i'm good. desktop/laptop. it's the same bs as apple/samsung, you get what you need. not what others think you should get because of their own bias.
well, some laptops are, and most are limited depending on how old it is, but if you arent trying to game i would recommend a Surface Pro-like pc , i have personally had a full sized laptop before , currently a desktop and a surface, and each kind of have their own usage so i find it a little dumb to categorize them together , desktops are made more for gaming or heavy work loads where as portable pcs are more for like casual and light use
but who cares what things are made for? my laptop is not a stock laptop anymore, so it can't be categorized in what it was intended for. i broke the intention seal a long time ago lol.

Steven young nah man, this laptop cost me 900 euros in 2011, the first mobo died because of me in like 2013 and i paid 80 to get a new and the second died to a burning chipset in 2015 and then it cost me 50 euros, new laptop would still be 600+ atleast

KATLEGO CYRUS 16 GB of RAM, if possible an upgraded CPU, if possible an upgraded GPU(like a 1660M or 1050M, or 1650M or something), an SSD, these will produce alot of heat so maybe an Opolar LC-05 external vacuum cooler

Why you need 16gigs of ram?
cemu emulator uses 16gb with no issue, they did fix that recently so it can work with 8 gb but it used to eat 16 for lunch at the time

I have a 15.6" vevobook that I just unhook and hook up to a external GPU when I get home from school. Its last years I7 with 16gb of ram and a 256gb SSD with a 620 gpu built in and a 1050 for when I get home. Works great and the total set up taxes and all was 1650 Canadian.

you've gotta take out your keyboard, take the "model number" research what other keyboards might fit, check the locations of the flatcables if they are the same and stuff. there was some gaming version of a asus that had around the same keyboard with led's but had a different key layout ( a better one !) and that i used. if you check on my channel i have a video called finishing upgrading my laptop and that one contains some info on my keyboard + another video a bit older also shows it, i think i also mention it in the cooling mod video

@@Gagliano17 I probably will mess something up (Though I have actually successfully done a repaste on an old 2008 unibody MacBook, yeah not much) , apple solders everything, I don't have a heat gun, and for the newer models, the t2 chip doesn't allow any tampering with it. My CPU is technically upgradeable with a heat gun and experience, but it will still thermal throttle, not giving me the full performance of the chip, even with repasting. And for my 2012 MacBook air, it is actually cheaper to get another computer than the parts itself. Also the one I am using currently is a MacBook Pro. Lastly, I do not have the time nor the patience to actually do it.
Well yeah, its not suited or for anyone, i just show its possible and had fun doing it, like always :)
@@Gagliano17 Understood, and honestly I would also find this fun. I was actually thinking of trying to make a laptop, as my school has 3d printers I could use, but unfortunately the math wouldn't work out right using off the shelf components and an x86 single boat computer. It would just be too bulky. Anyways, you got a good deal for those products, and very few computer enthusiasts have the tools and knowledge to carry out such a procedure.
Do it with a laptop, people have made desktop enclosures from laptops, just as a fun project

Edit: looks like the 8gb ram thing is a bios thing, so the bios locks it, but that's again something you have to test because my cpu in my laptop is also not supported by my bios and still it's fully functional, you could try to go to the bios mod site and have someone edit your latest bios available to support 16gb or try it, maybe lend some so-dimm from someone if you know someone

Pretty cool man ... you should prolly show how you removed and put the cpu back in ... most intel cpus especially sandy bridge are soldreed on ... so im just curious.
And to support what everyone is saying yes you could build a desktop for your build ... even a low end cpu would beat your laptops cpu. So budget desktop parts would out perform your current setup.
But as we all know a laptop is portable and on top of it I think its cool af if you restored performance for your laptop. I personally just did this to my laptop but I didnt upgrade the CPU cause of the soldered cpu I wasnt aware you could swap them.
i should have but it's very easy, here's the thing, if your cpu has a "M" in it's name, it can be replaced, anything newer then 5th gen i think is soldered, those U's and stuff can't be upgraded, but 2310M or 2760QM, all that has M is socketed, that's how you can know. and dude, a desktop is not just a cpu. i'd need, motherboard,ram,lcd,case,fans,coolers, it would have never been better for 217 euros that i paid for this upgrade.

You had the Laptop. Thats the Point. I asked whats the Point on Buying a Laptop in the First Place. If you already have one, ok, go ahead. But if you don´t then its wasted Money. You can get Full HD Monitors for about 80€
i bought it in 2011, i lived still at my parents home back then, just about to move out. i couldn't see the future, no knowledge where i was gonna live what i'm gonna need, laptop was best option. and i was just 18. and buidling a desktop in 2011 was much harder then now.
Its because u want a powerful device enough to play games and edit videos. And in case you need to take the laptop outside for meetings or gaming at a fds house or something else. A laptop is portable while a pc isnts. I mean you could buy a pc and buy a cheap notebook but then again where would you put your files. Lets say you put it on the pc. And you need it in your laptop because you needed to edit something with that file.
and really this was very cheap for how much gain in performance i got, desktop would be much more expensive, + desktop look not as good as this setup in my opionion

Yes but a newer laptop can do this even better, i have a old laptop without thunderbolt so i run it from a mini pci-e which Pretty much every laptop has (it's where the wifi module is connected to) and i just use cable internet/usb wifi dongle, and replaced the m-pcie with the egpu, but if you get a more recent laptop they will have thunderbolt 3 and that is better in performance, you can even use the m2 sata ports or if you have an even older laptop a express card. egpu's will work with pretty much any laptop, but the gpu you put in has to be at least with it in case of your cpu, if you put a 1080 ti in and have a i3, your laptop still gonna suck because of bottleneck of the cpu, my ram banks should also work with pretty much any laptop and you can get them up to 2666mhz. these are ddr3L and my laptop actually ran ddr3 at 1.5v and the old cpu i had only supported 1333mhz and still ran my 1866mhz banks and the new cpu supports up to 1600mhz and im still running 2133mhz haha i'm breaking all limits and it should work for pretty much any decent laptop. cpu is important though.

I thought i was the onlly one i upgraded my mums laptopwich she gave from a i3 3270u 4 gb of ram intel gpu to a i5 3320m 6 gb of ram and a gt 210 all the parts where saved so it cost me nothing , nice to see another broke handy man like me . Good luck :)

the first mobo cost me 80 euro's in 2013, the second one i bought somewhere between 2015/16 for 50 euro. and for the mods, keyboard i did for like 20-40 euro, and battery was 16 euro, drive bay was 9-11 euro, painting was couple euro lol i have liters of paint anyway. uhm what else. the grid for the cooler i had since 2007, free, keep in mind that these are things you do overtime and have nothing to do with a upgrade. if your car breaks you're not gonna include the repair of the car in the total price of the car.

Also it died twice, and one of it was just it dying by itself which could happen to a persons brand new smartphone on the first day of purchase.
