That is one of the best car videos on TH-cam!!! Thank you for that. You can hear the turbo whine and everything!!! Awesome driver and awesome car!!!!
My compliments to Patrick. Driving a GT2 so smoothly and clean is really a great performance. Must be very confident with the car, with the track and in total control. Well done!
I love this track!!!! I was on it in May,06 when I visted my friend in Germany for holiday. It was raining that day. Thanx for sharing this vid, it bring back a very fond memory.
The gearbox sounds like music!
Awesome video!
the guy is taking such a nice smooth line, i can only take a line like that in a video game such as GT4 etc, but there's no way i could in real life without some SERIOUS practice and a whole lot more guts.
even the gearbox got a perfect setup for nordschleife...damn nice work ... congratualtions
love the smooth taken lines. true expert.
Amazing. I love this track. I have it in rFactor, and drive it all the time. The mother of all racing tracks :)
Incredible driving as well, i have just managed to get below 9 mins in a Corvette C06. Still learning the track and car, so some improvement is of course possible. Thank you for posting this great video.
That's sooooo smooth. Driving is stunning. Respect.
I can't even go this fast in Gran Turismo 4... Excellent video.
Great car and beautifully driven! Awesome video.
I love watching vids of this track. Very nice lap. I enjoyed watching how great those racing lines were through turns. Would have liked to see the exterior of the car to see what was done to it.
Nothing like quick onboard round the Ring and this is a doozy. Great driving and good vid quality.
Love the torque from the car - so many times he powers out of corners in 4th or 5th, relatively low on revs, and it just screams out of the corner.
It just seems about 9.5 tenths in a few quick places, though, he leaves some margin. Compare it to the SR8 vid - that is just mad.
Amazing track, amazing car and amazing driving! Thanks for sharing.
This is a very good video showing very good driving skills and setup.
flawless lap. ive just finished the 24 hour race here on GT4, yeah i know its just a game but it still gives you an idea of how demanding and awesome the track is. i'd love to drive it for real.
Yeah!! So fast, Oh my god!! Good hands and good driving Patrick Simon!!
Thanks for the heads up mate, greatly appreciated! :D
I was at the "Ring" 20 days ago. Awesome place. Got to say that practicing on GT4 was invaluable help when driving there for the first time. I'll be back.
Thanks for the information, Bayer89. This also shows that performance limitations will never allow cars to become faster and faster with advancing technology. It's actually just the opposite on race tracks. I remember Schummi driving a 25 years old turbo Ferrari and beeing afraid of the feeling of danger, even though it was down-powered by 200 bhp. I miss heroes like Bellof, Senna, Clark and Fangio, they raised racing to it's pinacle.
Your're God, this is insanely awesome! I even have problems playing this on Gran Turismo 4, and you can make it THAT well in real life! Congrats!
Gut gemacht! Bin schwer beeindruckt! Bravo!
Excellent driving performace. Nürburgring is the ultimate race track to test your abilities and this guy did the job. Congrats.
That looks so very neat, great lines, thank's :-)
wow that was just crazy fast! actually frightened me how fast he was going and im sitting here watching it off a screen!
Thank you for the enlightenment. Is the gearbox modified with close ratio gears? It is still an amazing sound!!!
Man, Listen to the whine! The lon and lat g-meter is a cool touch. Thank you for not adding goofy music to this.
That was just beautiful to watch!! Wow!
Sehr schön gefahren! :)
Awesome driving man!
I second this comment. I was the passenger in a non turbo porsche on this track and we were being held up by a skilled rider on a gsx-r 750. Once we passed the bike every turn we pulled away.
cool. that was a while ago. the simplicity of a race car never changes.
the sound.... god the sound. made the hair on my neck stand straight up. What an awesome sound.
Super gemacht!
extremely impressive, surprised he gauged his tires so well. for a car that tops out around 170mph, this is insane. he's obviously grown up racing on this track, my hats off to him.
took the last corner greatfully !! respekt
If i didn't remember wrongly, there's one Top Gear episode.A lady in a van with seats removed finished the track at 8 minutes plus.
And someone already broken this record at 6 mins plus.
This is by far one of the best tracks in the world to test your might as a racer specially in winter snowing ;p
those few faster corners are almost impossible to get right, fantastic lap.
great video bro
wow, very smooth
Skills, a little bit of craziness, and huge balls
I love the way the transission whines. Is that stock or do I hear spur gears?
insane driving skills.
Great lap
perfection
Unreal! Good Job man...
@Janusha In factory testing, the Lexus LFA did sub-7:20. And that's a car with "just" 552 hp and 3,260+ lbs curb weight. Of course, it has wonderful suspension, weight distribution, ULTRA light engine, and I totally love it, being a Toyota/Lexus guy. But STILL, the mere power to weight figures say everything. And when you have a car that is light AND has great power/weight ratio, built by Formula One people and Formula One related people, WOW! No wonder it STILL kicks ass even after "centuries".
Beeindruckend !
i've seen it on touristenfahrt-days. you can only drive on the circuit during the touristenfahrten when your car is street-legal, because the ring is considered to be a normal public road.
Amazing track and great driving.
Its wierd to watch a real car go round a circuit i learnt in a game...that guy was amazing, not a corner out of place. Took me about 30 laps of that damn track to complete the final challenge on GT4.
wow, patrick , du hast es drauf. wahnsinn !!
Damn!!!, mad skills...I make 8:00 mins, and you drive a 911 GT2 that cars are difficult to drive on curves you´re my hero, I raise my hat to you good sir !
Yeah ... it is. We had to learn it the hard way. :P
Though we only had a Suzuki Swift with some changes (suspension, cage, weight reduction etc. but with a stock 125hp engine) and we still managed to loose control at Karussell. We only knew the track from video games and were somewhat surprised by how rough it is when you drive over it with a sport suspension and sport setup in general. We were kicked out of the Karussell but going only 55-60 km/h - no crash :P
Stefan Bellof did this in 6:11 that puts things into perspective a record that does not look like getting broken soon in a race or road car.
the actual record for the competition vehicles holds back since 1983. 6:11 set by Stephan Bellof, Porsche 956
AMAZING, love it.
@Janusha The thing is that since a humongous over-simplified truck-derived 8.4 can generate 600 hp AND weigh 500 lbs without any forced induction, it makes a sofisticated 8.0 with 4 turbochargers look strange with 987 hp and 882 lbs. The McLaren stuff - 600 PS from 150 kg (330 lbs) engine weight - is amazing. Even if the 150 kg most probably aren't complete. E.g. the GT-R cannot even dream about such power/weight efficiency - despite having essentially the "same" specs (3.8 twin-turbo V8 vs V6).
you are right, i would too, and the vette could be your daily driver to work.
But you got to give props to the porcshe. That was a sick lap.
I've run on slicks with a darkened (tinted) windshield in a Daytona while in Germany! A friend of mine up in northern GR had six exotics..the Daytona being #3 in his favorites. You just have to know the right people. "Nothing is ever illegal as long as no one knows about it.."
its a porsche 996 from edo competition and the driver is patrick simon, who drove the land motorsport porsche 996 at the 24h race...
So amazing
Also: A guy who's boat/yacht repair/modification facilities are right next to my mechanic's garage actually had a Veyron. He sold it after 1 year, unimpressed. He literally called the car's feel DULL. He expected the greatest car ever, as VW/Bugatti claimed, but was let down by the actual experience... I bet he'd love the F1 or the Koenigsegg CCXR or the 458 or the LFA, etc...
*applause* Fantastic driving.
@Driftuner Suprisingly, on Monday, August 01, both tracks were connected together! (at least between 12:30 - 1pm when I did my last lap and had to go back home). How happy I was! Especially because on the day before you had to pay addtional fee to drive around GP track and it wasn't combined with the Nordschleife.
@JohnTheHater You are correct. It probably would take btwn 25 to 50 laps to commit it to memory enough just to not go off the track, let alone drive it as fast as possible for the car and conditions.
beautiful drive!!!!!! what car is it ??? porsche 911???
@jakubkrcma
7:40, the estimated Veyron time by Wheels Magazine on touring session, which is never official. "When you double the power of a car at the same weight etc., the lap time usually only gets around 15 % better." Trade-off is handling, traction which require more training skill and also reliability. McLaren F1 might have better power/weight ratio, that advantage is countered by Veyron torque and brale power. Of course, I refer to stock model i.e. unmodified.
According to Wikipedia, the Radical SR8 is the current lap record holder (6:55), per previous post.
Great video, however.
damn thats quick! what a buzz that must be
imagine riding your bike through that track. whoo, it would be a freaking endurance event just to finish one lap. would be fun to try, though.
lol
awesome!!
@Janusha The CCXR way is THE way to go - twin-supercharged. No turbo lag, no stupid 4 turbos, "just" two superchargers. Since there are single-turbo engines with over 1,000 hp, the Veyron's ridiculous 4 turbos just underline the lack of reason, especially with the original car's LOW 123 hp/liter. It almost looks like they added weight on purpose... Madness
awesome!
Having seen a very accurent german comment, You're right. The Porsche run actually on Pirelli cut slicks.
They use the Nordschleife to race as well, it incorporates the GP circuit in some races like the 24 hour race they have every year
very impressive, does anyone know whether this was running slicks or road tyres?
very very impressive.
What a racing track, over 22 km long. It's still unbelivable that Formula 1 competed there in 1976.
The record is reserved for show room cars not cars that have been heavily modified with larger turbos and tweeked suspension upgrades
etc
Thats impresive!
@Tippotipo I did not refer to any Veyron time. What was it? But obviously, nobody sane expects the standard Veyron to beat the standard McLaren F1. Not only does the F1 have a marginally better power to weight ratio, but it is, crucially, MANY percent lighter. When you double the power of a car at the same weight etc., the lap time usually only gets around 15 % better. Guess what happens when you cut the weight drastically, while keeping or improving the power to weight ratio...
AWESOME TRACK! THE BEST IN THE WORLD!
And to think Heidfeld will be there to drive the BMW Sauber F1 car on April 28th! It will be the first time since Niki Lauda's horrible crash in 1976 that a F1 car will drive around the track!
what a circuit. a real drivers' circuit
The Veyron's 8.0 liter W16 engine produces about 987 hp (1,001 PS) with four turbos, while weighing about 882 lbs (400 kg). That's 1.119 hp/lb. For example, the Lexus LFA's 4.8 liter V10 engine produces about 552 hp without any turbos, weighing less than 359 lbs. That's AT LEAST 1.537 hp/lb. Even the Super Sport's 1,184 hp translate into 1.342 hp/lb. Who would have guessed a few years ago that Toyota/Lexus would make SUCH a great engine... Right there with Ferrari 458 Italia etc.!
wow nice driving, very smooth. People struggle to do a lap under 10 min, and he did it 7 min and some change, very impressive. I wish i could drive like that and have the oppertunity to race on the Nurburgring, Closest I can get is Le Circuit Mont Tremblant in Mont Tremblant Quebec, but it's much m uch shorter. great vid. thanks. PS, is it just me or Porsche engines just don't sound all that good?
Now to this vid.... The GTR was the new R35 GTR OEM that set that time! (roughly 18sec quicker than the R34) and was/is??? the quickest OEM street car around the ring, hotly contested by the only other rival for the title, the porsche!
(i have seen Dirk Schoysmen drive a Modified 600hp+ Street R34GTR around the ring much faster, hitting 200mph on several parts of the track!)
This a great clean lap none the less, a pleasure to watch! A great car, a good driver & the worlds most amazing track! A+
this is 270 kmh about 165-170mph
This car has a close ratio transmission that takes advantage of the Nordschleife's many corners to maximise corner exit aceleration. It only has around 600hp but look at the acceleration
@Driftuner I've been on the Ring on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a new Mercedes C180K. Not really a supercar but nevertheless, I had a lot of fun! I did a Nordschleife with a full GP track under 13 minutes and it was only my 6th lap there :)
the radical video is unbeliveable...open top track car ... crazy driver...
That driver was Tom Coronel in a Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR. That was a officially timed lap. With that time the Dodge is the fastest production vehicle on the Nürburgring to date. The car in this video is not a production car but a specially tuned version of the Porsche GT2 (996). So actually it's not competing in the same category as the Dodge. I do think the 7.15 is correct though.
damn that G force meter lol... imagine being in there as a passenger :O
Hi,
super Runde. Der Patrick hats schon drauf. Grüsse Baumi
now i have'nt heard that one before, does anyone know whether or not they let you use slicks?its a public toll rd,so you may be right..
OH DEAR GOD I'VE NEVER NOTICED THAT BEFORE.
@TheKatoom Basically, there are two things I don't like about the Veyron. It is quite heavy (while being praised for being light by the maker) and the use of 7th gear is not seamless. I would even say it isn't fair to call it the fastest car, because the McLaren F1, which it originally dethroned, did mindblowing stuff in a proper, regular way (while being MUCH lighter). Paradoxically, the F1, while being extreme, was a much more practical car for everyday use. Veyron change 4 tires: USD 95,000!
@t0rq21
Yes it has shorter gear ratios but still is able reach top speed of 325km/h+, but Simon said because of the wing attitude is not able reach more than 288km/h.
