After acting in multiple feature films Matthew Mcconaughey thought to himself what should I do next? Then it dawned on him. "I'll write, I'll write, I'll write."
The fact that Jordan is talking openly to Matthew is incredible, but the fact the Jordan is on his way back from hell is just extraordinary. Please accept this virtual warm hearted welcome back Jordan.
@@user-yn2ct2ie9m Amid the stress of his position in the world and some tragedy in his family, he began taking stress reducing medication. He became physically dependent on said meds and as a result, even after breaking free of them, still struggles to do even basic tasks or achieve physical comfort for any extended period of time. He is battling.
@@milo8425 It might be useful to note that this was prescribed medication by his doctor that shouldn't have been used but for a relatively brief time to avoid the physical addiction. So in a way mis-prescribed in fact.
@@user-yn2ct2ie9m he was misprescribed benzodiazepines by his doctor as stress relief medication. Benzos may have the worst physical dependency effects, because they change the way the nervous system works. As far as I know, Mr. Jordan Peterson still has side effects almost a year clean of benzos. Also, to stop taking them he ended up needing to go to Russia and then an eastern European country which I can't remember the name of right now. That was because every clinic in both USA and Canada could NOT successfully get him off benzos. Money was no problem, just that the west did not have the knowledge. Seems they only prescribe them, and don't know how to get people off benzos once they get physically addicted.
I have a girlfriend, and we will talk 4 - 6 - maybe 8 hours at time. Jordan's interviews of diverse people feed my intellect and my soul. Thank you, Dr Peterson!
I met Matthew on a beach in Malibu when I was a 1st year dental student in California. Being a prairie girl from Saskatchewan, Canada, I was so excited and starstruck. He could not have been more kind, more humble, and more friendly. He asked me questions about school and took time away from surfing with his friends to chat with a stranger. Such a nice man!
I started to cry as I read this. What a truly, truly kind, selfless, pure, angel of a human being he is. To actually make conversation with a young female college student in a bikini. The word 'saint' is thrown around these days, but here it's an understatement.
I wish Dr Peterson the best of health. But I think it would be even more refreshing to see him tear someone of Cathy Newman's ilk a new one. Lol. I just watched tje channel 4 debacle again last night. And the 20 or so minute build up to the decimation that came a a result of the interviewer's misconceived preconceptions is worthy of a Pulitzer prize or Oscar (for Peterson I mean, Newman would get a Razzie at best) or whatever the hell prize category it fits in. It was just amazing to watch. And he did it with patience and humility.
@@Lark993 I'm sorry I don't follow him closely enough to know details about his health. I'm sorry to hear that and pray 🙏 him nothing but the best. I do get that the continuous assaults must have an impact on his mental state and deplete his energy.
@@Lark993 Dr Peterson was like a tree in a storm. When the storm subsided he was still standing...but the price he paid! As a child I was bullied a lot. I remember at high school the school tough guy grabbed me but I kept looking him in the eye. I refused to show fear. I didn't fight back...that took time to learn but I refused to kneel! Dr Peterson refused to kneel. I admire his courage and integrity as much as his intellect.
Never had a father or any good men in my life. Now in my 40’s after years of misdirected emotions and anger( money and women can’t fix this) I find Jordan Peterson, Wim Hof and Eckhart Tolle, Aaron Abke , David Hawkins and Rupert Spira. I’ve found my peace and purpose. Thank You 🙏🏾
Two deep and thoughtful gentlemen sharing a fantastic conversation with the world. Also love that genuine, almost moving, mutual respect and appreciation expressed especially at the end.
All I see is another pseudo intellectual hollywood moron trying to position himself for a political run and ingratiate himself to the people he'll screw over the minute he gets to D.C. - thankfully his experiment about running for office didn't go anywhere.
That’s what I feel I must do with my new born son 👍🏻 My brother existence now is to try my best to build my life the way I want and teach that little man to be better in every way than me.
"..and that we all might have the good fortune to eventually turn our attention to rebuilding the world after the deluge." (Peterson, Beyond Order, 382)
‘That’s an excellent place to end... I would say’ ever the genius. So happy to see Jordan looking sharp and clear-eyed. Never ever take people like this for granted, their existence is one of the few things that keep pushing back the evils of this world.
Don't underestimate the part you play and countless others do to repel evil. If we were closer to evil than its opposite then we would not have such a scary concept of it.
he's wrecked. 1st rule of new book, after all the talk of society becoming communist, he tells everyone to believe in the system. it's ok, Jordan had a family but he's toast. now he's just another fake.
I’ve been an asshole lately judging Matthew because of his motivational speeches and I feel guilty not knowing anything about him..like “you are not a victim” thinking what does he know? A handsome, hugely successful movie star that has everything, what does he know about feeling victimized until I read and heard all of the terrible things he’s been through..I feel so bad, he’s a very strong person..I would never have the mental strength to push through the shit he’s been through
As an ex addict I'm really curious to hear the details of his struggle lately. It's a very personal thing so we may never know the "dirty details" of what happened but dealing with benzos is a very precarious situation. I was addicted to heroin and benzos and heroin was much harder to stop but benzos give some of the most dangerous withdrawals of any substance. The fact he went all the way to Russia (if I remember correctly) for treatment really concerns me and leaves HUGE questions. Edit: I watched the interview of him describing treatment and to be honest he just sounds like a drug addict lol. I love him and his message but going to Russia to be given PROFOPOL for a week is pretty much cheating his way into sobriety. Even hearing him talk about I get the feeling that he's not completely over it yet. I didn't sleep for months, I was throwing up all the time and got extremely depressed and had every symptom he described on top of opiate withdrawal but it was a much needed learning experience in accountability. Everyone has there own journey but I think it's a mistake to be treated in that manner. It would have been soooooo much easier for me to get clean by having someone knock me out for a week and a half while I detoxed but then I wouldn't remember all the pain I went through to get clean. I hope he gets over this eventually but everything I see leads me to believe that he's still not in the clear yet.
@@menwithven8114 There's an interview between Dr. Peterson and his daughter Mikhaila over on her channel that goes into detail about the whole ordeal. It wasn't an addiction in the sense of substance abuse in any case, it was a paradoxical reaction, something that some psychiatric drugs are liable to do in rare cases; The medication ends up amplifying your symptoms rather than reducing them. You have my absolute respect by the way for quitting those two drugs you mentioned, that's goddamn impressive, especially the heroin!
Hello everyone! So am I understanding this right? This is Jordan Peterson as he is today? Please God make it so. If it is he is on his way to recovery! So hope he is! The world needs him so much

This was fantastic. I’ve always enjoyed Matthew McConaughey’s movies, but over the last 5 years give or take, his personal growth that he’s shared with the public has been inspiring and makes me enjoy him and his work even more. Jordan Peterson came in to view maybe two or even three years ago now and just blew me away. I too felt like what I thought and felt, he was able to put into words that made me shout, yes! That’s exactly it. I enjoy listening to both of these gentlemen separately and together. Thank you for this. Can’t believe this has been out a year and I’m just now coming across it.
Optimism is bullshit, because it contradicts the laws of nature. The universe is always increasing in entropy, it is impossible for entropy to decrease in a closed system. The idea that something good is just around the corner is akin to religious belief, not based in scientific reality. Existence is merely a journey towards maximum entropy (thermodynamic equilibrium of the universe). Nothing in the universe will survive. Not stars, planets, or civilizations. Stars will eventually cease to form as Hydrogen gas clouds are depleted, black holes will eventually decay due to Hawking radiation, and even atoms themselves will break down as the universe gets closer and closer to maximum entropy, rendering all forms of intelligence impossible. The laws of thermodynamics dictate our fate. Oswald Spengler was right all along: optimism is cowardice. We are all doomed, and we've been able to prove it scientifically for decades. Optimism is a fantasy designed to give comfort to our primitive human minds to help us cope with the brutal reality of the universe in which we exist.
@@ApocDevTeam I'm pretty sure he was referring to optimism for the outcome of an individual's life, with respect to whatever goals that person may have, not the grand fate of the universe.
I think the road is full of presumptions and felt crossed despite Jordan Peterson's intent. It's a natural reaction but can benefit from attempting to approach situations in a better faith. The road isn't any more or less crossed from what intent was meant, but it's important to know the reasoning.
Jordan Peterson causally denying the nihilism ideology so effortlessly is pure genius. “If your objection to life is it’s suffering, adopting an attitude that will make that suffering worse is probably not a reasonable solution”
Nihilism says that suffering outweighs momentary satisfaction. Suffering is the fundamental mode of all human beings. Recognizing this is not making anything worse, if anything this puts ascetiscm and reasoning into the foreground and promotes not just blindly following your will to live.
@Chris Jacobs I believe it's a reference to the opening chapter of his book where he talks about lobsters and how scientists have studied their nervous system to draw parallels with the human nervous system :)
Jesus, that part with "Your father wants you to be even better than him" hit really close to home. I never thought about it that way. I always resented my dad for not living up to the standards he put on me. I now know that he just wanted and still wants me to be even better than him. Thanks Mr. Peterson.
I’ve fortunately already learned that lesson - bc I’m McConaughey’s age - as I attempt to teach my children lessons of right & wrong & reality - who to be and how to be. I’m very flawed in many ways, but really effective in other ways.... as are MOST, IF NOT ALL, HUMANS. So I get to see it from the side of the flawed parent, and then reflect on the pretty tough flaws of my own parents. It’s one of the most critical lessons of life.
i have a 7 year old and ive told him that many times, but worded differently. i always say all that matters to me is that you can be better than me, so you can have a better life than me. just coasting along is a good way to die miserable. there are too many people trying to do that these days. life used to be a lot harder and people were happy just to make it to the end of the day. but life isnt like that, so people need to push forward and figure out some new things. learn to love what you do, do just do what makes you happy

@@mysecondaccount7887 That's the problem. It's not a pointless statement. It's obvious that everyone is flawed, that no one is perfect, and yet, we see time and time again that people's lives are being ended (metaphorically speaking) because of poor choices or indiscretions. Not just famous people, but regular Janes and Joes; the consequences of indiscretion today are FAR more severe than they were just 20-30 years ago, and those consequences linger far longer.
@@historyteacher5821 I couldn't find the timestamp for this quote myself, but I interpreted this as the proposition that coming to logical conclusions complex enough to solve the problems we face as humans, regardless of tendency towards poor discretion, is actually extremely difficult. Creativity is an evolutionary process of coming to logical conclusions by trialling candidate ideas in a sea of possibilities, in hope of stumbing upon a conclusion that would prove too difficult to solve analytically otherwise, at least for an imperfect being. Much like nature cannot produce a perfect being, but rather one that performs well enough to survive, people can't produce perfect ideas - but rather a small subset of ideas from the entirety of those generated that prove useful enough to survive. This is why the statement is pointless - because no material construct that necessarily had to evolve is perfectly optimal

I haven't even finished the episode yet. But the words that Matthew speaks about taking hold of the wheel in life and not letting yourself off the hook so easily have really impacted me. I'm at a point in my life where I have been ashamed by my actions and the results that they produce are so toxic and they are eating away at my relationship with my wife. I wasn't capable of understanding how I knew that God has forgiven me of my son's and yet I let myself of the hook so easily. That was until Jordan pointed out that there is this higher standard; an ideal; that we are called to be and I knew that from the start but I couldn't connect the dots where I finally realized that all my actions, especially the ones I choose to ignore that negatively impact my life, really do impact me down the road. So if you're reading this Jordan or Matthew. Thank you to the both of you for helping me come to a revelation in my life tonight. [1:00] Jordan Peterson kicks off the conversation by asking why and how Matthew McConaughey wrote his book Greenlights. [4:00] Matthew realized he needed to write the book himself without a ghostwriter as initially planned and dig back into his journals as a form of necessary reflection on the past. [6:00] Matthew’s old journals revealed their common thread through all the stories, poems, and bumper stickers. That common thread was the creation of good things in life through mindset or action “Greenlights.” [12:00] Jordan talks about his initial response after reading Matthews’s and how his expectations were changed. [14:00] Matthew talks about his solo trips when starting to create the structure of his book. Jordan comments that this was a book written by a celebrity that did not really focus on the traditional parts of being a celebrity (very family-focused and foundational). Matthew states, “When we were editing the book I found that the more personal the stories became, the more relatable they seemed to become, to the human condition, and that was my hope.” [18:00] Jordan and Matthew revisit the African trip, chasing dreams and having the same exact dream multiple times over the span of many years. [24:00] What was the personal impact on Matthew during his trip to Africa where he got to strip away the identity we all know him for and exist as something else? Jordan comments that very often, people confuse their reputation with who they really are, they start to act as a representation of their reputation instead of themselves; it’s an easy trap to fall into. [22:00] Matthew discusses dealing with the pitfalls of fame. Matthew covers his changing relationship with his mother due to success. [25:00] Jordan B. Peterson asks Matthew McConaughey about some of his acting work in True Detective and playing dark characters. “How do you play a dark role very well without letting the darkness invade you?” [32:00] Matthew talks about the positive aspects of the sometimes tense relationship with his father and having a childhood that balanced love and hardship directed from the same people. [37:00] Jordan and Matthew continue talking about going deeper into the psychology of a dark character like Rustin Cole on True Detective [45:30] Matthew expanded on the short-term effects of initial fame. [51:30] Matthew and Jordan discuss the long-term effects of fame. [55:00] Jordan points out “If flawed people were incapable of creativity we would have no creativity.” [1:03:00] How Matthew and Jordan got connected [1:07:30] Matthew shares a comical review of his own book written as if Jordan was the one reviewing it.

Finally seeing this. Mccaughey does laugh in unexpected places sometimes but the Mephistopheles quote about deserved demise earned through basic existence amused me as well -taken on its own and not in the context of the moment in the play or story, anyway. Recap by Tammy AI
As a Dudeist priest, I gave devoted a good deal of introspection into the battle for humanity's spirit between Nihilistic Despair and Existential Bliss... I have found all philosophies are more or less valid in their own way, the main differences simply being perspective and scale. If you expand your mind until you are considering all time and space as the frame for your own sense of validity, then of course your every possible potentiality is infinitesimally dwarfed to the point Nihilism becomes a mathematical undeniability. However, a careful examination of alternate frames of reference will reveal a panoply of equally valid "bounds of scope" which offer philosophical continuities ranging from the dark limits of Nihilism to the utter bliss of personal godhood. Only careful examination of one's personal priority and goals in life can lead directly to the proper place on the spectrum for you to reside. So, Optimism IS courage! courage applied on a subjective scale such as "all the lives of people alive when I am" or "all the people with direct DNA link to me, or "my generation" or the"space age" or "all the people I physically see or meet or interact with in any way during my lifetime", or "withing my direct cultural frame of reference", or "as my life-partner experiences"... So basically while nihilism is technically a sound philosophy it is merely one of countless potential philosophies and moreover it is an extremist philosophy in that one aspect overrides all other equally relevant aspects. Sure everything is meaningless when compared to all time and space but that is completely irrelevant in that we do not exist or operate as sentient beings on any scale even approaching infinity.
@@jonathanryals9934 Great answer. and i’ve basically came to the same conclusion as you… im wondering what kind of books you have read to come to this conclusion about Nihilistic despair and existential bliss, and so forth..?

3 years later, this was great. Matthew McConaughey is such a care-free kind of guy. My husband got me the book and I was very skeptical. I steer clear of books written by celebrities. But I read it and it was actually very good. I thought McConaughey a bit odd at times. Especially with his dreams. But it was a well written book and he had a lot of good life lessons to share along with a great outlook on life. I often have to cycle through books and get rid of ones I don't plan on reading again. His book has a solid place on my bookshelf. I won't be getting rid of it.

@@dertythegrower I would say there typically seems to be variance in how humans respond to any information presented. Dr Peterson, I appreciate you so, so much. I'm so thankful that I can attend your "classes" on the internet, in the form of podcasts, or watching you interview other people. I have journals dating back a while. Lost track. The important thing is to move forward. I encourage people to look back and reflect on their life. To change themselves by adopting ideas that challenge them. Many will not because they don't want to change. They want to be the victim and blame others for their problems. Those people will always stay put but those who are willing to go through it will find a better solution to their problems. Journaling, reading books, that includes mein kampf and the communist manifesto, the gulag archipelago, etc. Yeah, these things must be taught so history is not repeated but I believe these bad intentions that were created are already here. The political parties with corporate leaders also want a utopia but only Jesus will instill that. Any government officials that claim they are for the people, are actually forcing us to become future slaves...interesting enough, we have slept too long and we are paying for it now.

Petersen being the interviewer instead of being interviewed is really beautiful to see.. He is a very good listener and giving questions that are just spot on, bringing the best part of the other person to shine.
I find people who have done lots of interviews, end up being masterful interviewers themselves. I suppose they have seen both sides of the spectrum, and understand how a interviewee wants to be treated. It also helps Petersen is a trained psychologist and lecturer, whose profession is basically listening to people.
Yes, he is. I enjoyed it very much. I'm reminded, of course, that he is a clinical psychologist with years in practice. A related skill, really. Or perhaps a gift.
Yes being a professional therapist helps immensely, along with his talent. Imagine he is one of the best in the worlds and very much quoted in scientific journals
This is exactly the vibe i got here , it being an interview in stead of a conversation. And that is not the work of JP... i think MM just sits himself comfortable in being the interviewé. So that really limits the range of what's being said imo
"Mephistopheles's essential credo is that everything that lives should perish because of the sin of it's existence. And that is a logically tenable argument, but it one that needs to be rejected. You don't reject that argument rationally, because it is a rationally tenable argument. You have to reject it with your whole being instead, and say, 'Well despite this I am going to live, and I am going to live in an appropriate manner.'"
Also Mephistopheles is not Satan himself. He is a one ghost that denies. If I remember correctly there is a dialog at the beginning between him and god where god states that among all denieing ghosts, the joker is the least burdon. I think it is something like that. We had Faust at school here in germany and I always found those lines most memorable.
I am 74 & until very recently I was a “naive optimist “ I am gratified to hear that Dr Peterson considers non naive optimism as a form of courage ! Feeling a lot better about myself all of a sudden !! What a great conversation between these thoughtful/ soulful men 🙏
I can be cynical at times, but I tell people all the time, as someone who has dealt with depression and anxiety in life, things can be worse enough without you thinking negatively about things and compounding that toxic feeling. Hoping for the best doesn't have to be naive or idiotic, for some it's simply a better/healthier road than being miserable every waking moment of their life. You'll face disappointment at times, but that's natural. At this point in my life, I can't afford to be negative.
I am a "Realist". I want to face the fact that this life is temporary. I KNOW that one day, I will die. Therefore, I want to KNOW: Then what? That has set me on a quest for Truth that has been amazing. Whatever it IS, I want to KNOW!
Optimism is a coping system, and that isn't a bad thing whatsoever. You've gotta be at least somewhat hopeful in life and look towards something good to come, otherwise you'll just be chewed up and spat back out by this world. Just as we have pessimists we have optimists, yin and yang, balance. Ideally, we need each other to achieve some form of equilibrium. Right now we have far more pessimists than optimists and it's thrown our world in to disarray. You can call optimism naive if you want, but I don't think that's necessarily true. I think it's just a way of actually enjoying your life.
@@alrightalright4585 Exactly. I used to be far more pessimistic than I am now, but at a certain point in life you just get exhausted by it and sickened of the negativity. I also deal with depression and anxiety at times, so already having negative thoughts of what can go wrong isn't just unhelpful, it's also sometimes downright debilitating. I probably have my naive moments, sure, but at this point in life I literally can't afford to be that negative, as I prefer to have more stability in my overall mental health. It's also as simple as the idea that if you're putting energy back out into the world, why not let that energy be positive, instead of toxic, negative energy? There's enough negativity out there already, let's balance things out.
@@Bad_At_Parties Yeah, definitely. It's just not worth it to let yourself get so down if you're able to fight back and prevent it. Overcoming issues with depression and anxiety is certainly not always easy and sometimes feels impossible, but generally speaking it is often something you can overcome if you actually want to. I think a lot of people just don't want to even try to get themselves out of the depression pit, once you sink in too far, you get really lethargic, unmotivated, and can't even think straight. I used to be a lot more vulnerable and frankly pathetic when I was younger, almost as if I was looking for reasons to be sad, but you tend to learn more about who you are as you get older, how things effect you, and how to actually enjoy your life, at least generally speaking. It's just much more fulfilling and worth it to do whatever you have to do to be happy no matter what, as long as you aren't hurting people ofc.
It's funny how different they seem on many levels yet you can see a closeness that goes beyond the superficial. Each giving the other time to speak and express, listening and responding. Truly engaged in the conversation.
Two dudes, two celebrities, who are getting at the "real" world through effective dialog. Fame, suffering, nihilism and courage. No matter, we are still at the wheel trying to steer. What a great interview, what a humble man Matthew is. I worked in a frame shop in NYC for many years in my youth. Matthew came in as a customer and was completely non assuming and polite. I did not even know who he was at the time until after he left and my boss told me. I then proceeded to look him up and watch all of his movies. Nice guy and very talented.
Absolutely loved this interview. Two people discussing life and understanding one another. No judgements, just having a conversation about one man's work and both appreciating each other. God I pray the United States as a whole could have more interactions like this in daily life. Thanks Jordan and Matthew for being yourselves.
Two of my favorites! I am even a bigger fan after watching this . It's obvious that Matthew is driven to be the best version of himself, how fortunate we are to hear this. I also absolutely love Matthew's darker, more complex character roles. Thank you Dr. P for sharing this meaningful and valuable exchange.
Jordan Peterson is the most well intentioned person I have ever seen. He is a kind man who clearly wants the best for everyone. How the hell do people think this guy is a white supremacist?
I lean more to the left and Peter leans to the right. But his ideas are generally good ones. As I get older, you realize a lot of people don't want to or know how to process challenging thoughts. Far right and far left people feed off easy to digest arguments and echo chambers.
@@perryliu2952 yeah at least the right denounces the far right when they do stupid shit. But the left and democrats encourage it. Just look at what happened in many American cities.
I don't think they restore faith in humanity, I think humanity has been the same for a very long time: For every Jordan Peterson who is trying to find a deeper meaning there are countless who aren't. I don't think the prevailing culture of any time, not just of today, has a lot to offer to someone that is honestly looking for meaning, some truth or a way to live a better life and become more of the better version of themselves. So I think I should shift my focus (not 100% but to large degree) from the deliberately divisive, sensationalist, manipulated fast food streams of junk information to streams of information that are actually helpful in understanding more about the world, society and self.
You realize that the hollywood celebs are just moving to where the eyeballs are right? this should destroy your faith in the "honesty" of someone like peterson... he read his fucking book... jezus christ.

What exactly happened to Peterson?
@@user-yn2ct2ie9m Amid the stress of his position in the world and some tragedy in his family, he began taking stress reducing medication. He became physically dependent on said meds and as a result, even after breaking free of them, still struggles to do even basic tasks or achieve physical comfort for any extended period of time. He is battling.
@@milo8425
It might be useful to note that this was prescribed medication by his doctor that shouldn't have been used but for a relatively brief time to avoid the physical addiction.

I’ve been an asshole lately judging Matthew because of his motivational speeches and I feel guilty not knowing anything about him..like “you are not a victim” thinking what does he know? A handsome, hugely successful movie star that has everything, what does he know about feeling victimized until I read and heard all of the terrible things he’s been through..I feel so bad, he’s a very strong person..I would never have the mental strength to push through the shit he’s been through
It’s so easy to have a victim mentality and push yourself out of it like he did
I really like Matthew alot, he is down to earth and very intelligent
It is wonderful to see Dr Peterson clear-eyed, alert and vibrant.

“Optimism is courage, if it’s not naive.”
Brilliant.

I met McConaughey a number of years ago when I was working at The Inn at Perry Cabin. I was the Guest Relations Manager and had the opportunity to meet him and talk to him. It stands out in my mind that, even so many years ago, he was so gracious, considerate, polite….and kind. Humility was already a part of his DNA even with all the adulation surrounding him. Great interview!

Peterson and McConaughey, the buddy comedy we didn't know we needed.
That common thread was the creation of good things in life through mindset or action “Greenlights.”
[12:00] Jordan talks about his initial response after reading Matthews’s and how his expectations were changed.
[14:00] Matthew talks about his solo trips when starting to create the structure of his book. Jordan comments that this was a book written by a celebrity that did not really focus on the traditional parts of being a celebrity (very family-focused and foundational). Matthew states, “When we were editing the book I found that the more personal the stories became, the more relatable they seemed to become, to the human condition, and that was my hope.”
[18:00] Jordan and Matthew revisit the African trip, chasing dreams and having the same exact dream multiple times over the span of many years.
“How do you play a dark role very well without letting the darkness invade you?”
[32:00] Matthew talks about the positive aspects of the sometimes tense relationship with his father and having a childhood that balanced love and hardship directed from the same people.
[37:00] Jordan and Matthew continue talking about going deeper into the psychology of a dark character like Rustin Cole on True Detective
[45:30] Matthew expanded on the short-term effects of initial fame.
[51:30] Matthew and Jordan discuss the long-term effects of fame.
[55:00] Jordan points out “If flawed people were incapable of creativity we would have no creativity.”
[1:03:00] How Matthew and Jordan got connected
[1:07:30] Matthew shares a comical review of his own book written as if Jordan was the one reviewing it.

Recap by Tammy AI
“Optimism is courage” Mr McConaughey’s laughter at nihilism is sooooo honest.

Love JP❤ such a gracious interviewer- and Mathew M is so full of joy - it was a pleasure to listen to him talk and share his ideas.

Two dudes, two celebrities, who are getting at the "real" world through effective dialog. Fame, suffering, nihilism and courage. No matter, we are still at the wheel trying to steer. You guys went deep. It takes me a couple of two-finger shots of whiskey just to scratch the surface. Peace to you both ... glad to see Doc Peterson on the mend.

I had no idea Matthew McConaughey had so much depth and wisdom and I'm excited to hear more from him outside of the roles he plays. As always, Jordan is still one of my favorite people. So glad he's feeling better.
I’ve seen quite a handful of your comments on my posts and I just wanna appreciate those people whose wishes me good and encourages me and my team, I wouldn’t be the man I am today without people like you, God bless you. I hope to bring you so much happiness and joy 🌹❤️
Podcast with Jordan Peterson and Matthew McConaughey?
*Alright, Alright, Alright!*
I can heat that “Alright”
Si si si sugoi desu
Matthew McConaughey is so obviously himself. That is one of the things I most respect about him.
Absolutely loved this interview. Two people discussing life and understanding one another. No judgements, just having a conversation about one man's work and both appreciating each other. God I pray the United States as a whole could have more interactions like this in daily life. Thanks Jordan and Matthew for being yourselves.
@Brutal Honesty brutal yes...but that is it
@Brutal Honesty LMAO at how true that is!!
Because from the left anyone who disagrees with you must be insane
I lean more to the left and Peter leans to the right. But his ideas are generally good ones. As I get older, you realize a lot of people don't want to or know how to process challenging thoughts. Far right and far left people feed off easy to digest arguments and echo chambers.
@@perryliu2952 yeah at least the right denounces the far right when they do stupid shit. But the left and democrats encourage it. Just look at what happened in many American cities.
If Jesus walked the earth today he’d be classed as a white supremacist too! The left don’t like religion

Jordan Peterson: "You struck me as an intensely likeable character"
Journalist quote: "You struck me"
"you're hired" - msm
LOL!😂 good one
It's called "English".
well done sir, well done...
What??? Huh???
Haven't even watched it yet and they have already restored a ounce of faith in humanity to me.
😂😂😂 thanks for the laugh in these ......times😂😂😂
40:03 This is why I love Peterson, he put his finger directly on the function of religious thinking, He's exactly right,
You're a gamer clean your room.
You realize that the hollywood celebs are just moving to where the eyeballs are right? this should destroy your faith in the "honesty" of someone like peterson... he read his fucking book... jezus christ.
