It’s not just 31 year olds who like them. I’m 60 and on my second S1000RR M-Sport. It really is as Papa Yam describes it. And 250-300 miles a day is easy. Tracked it, toured it (northern Spain) , scratched it - local roads, loved it. As for the XR? No! Just NO! As the old man in Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail said - “I’m not dead yet”.
I'm considering changing my RR for a XR. But as you say, after reading your comment I think I can just tour on the RR. The XR is such an ugly bike. Also I have the older generation RR that is even more comfortable.
Just need to add - the ABS is sophisticated but, downhill hard braking will get you into a lot of trouble - the rear lifts and the ABS cuts the pressure and you don’t stop till the rear gets back down. The only option left is to look through the bend and apply the gas and hope the TC helps you out - it will, by the way, but ask me how I know😅
I’m getting a used 21 s1000xr here this weekend. I took it for a test ride today and honestly, it’s super smooth. Even though it has way more power than I need, I love how tame the bike is on city streets when it’s lower in the revs. The electronics are also a nice touch as well.
The Isle of Mann video of Peter Hickman riding this bike to a record lap is simply unbelievable. He is a unreal talented rider and that BMW he is riding simply seems indestructible.
You feel old at 32? I'm more than twice your age and have ridden Harleys only for the last 40 years. But last October I bought a 2016 S1000XR, and I absolutely love it. The engine has a split personality. Under 6000 rpm, the bike is mild manner and controllable. But when you hit 8,9,10,000 rpm, it turns into a beast. I can only imagine a RR. My dream Beemer is the MXR.
That can be problematic when entering a corner. You hit that rev band entering a corner and the bike suddenly lunges forward and gains 30mph, it can be tricky. Best bet is to either get a bren tune or bmw offers a midrange unlock now which really helps with power delivery
On the surface, it sounds OK. Buuut. Safety in mind it's a terrible idea...I would never trust the mechanical integrity of anyone I don't know. Half the riders I do know don't torque spec anything and have 5 zip ties and missing bolts. 🤣
I think you would love the s1000r or the m1000r It has the comfort and position of a naked bike but all the electronics and almost all the power of the s1000rr
@josh_cline Yeah, but no one will be able to tell Still a bmw i4 engine, still all the electronics but different forms. One is a sports bike. The other is a naked bike But i get your point 😊
11:30 yeah I feel you. Got my first 600cc bike at 27/28 years old (A Yamaha XJ6F Diversion). Dude, I used to ride 250 300cc bikes, and I'd be dead if I got de XJ when I was younger. The power of the engine, the four cilinder sound when you rev it, it blows my mind. Thank god He only gave me conditions to by a sportsbike now. Otherwise, I'd be a dd squid :( Cheers from Breeeziiiillllll Yammie!
"Feel like it's got your back". That is a great description of how I felt when I got some experience with the S1000XR. It's just "there for you", do something a little dumb, electronics are there to jump in. It's just so good at going fast, making you feel like you're as safe as possible doing it, and keeping you comfortable while it's doing it. I got my XR at 45. You might still be a little young. ;)
Personally, I look way too small on that bike; standing at 6'3" tall. That's why I bought the 25th Anniversary Hayabusa and bought the TTS Performance 400 Hp Supercharger and outfitted it with custom carbon wheels with ceramic bearings. I had Moore Mafia do 100% of the installation and it's a monster to say the least. I fit on the busa like a glove without any back aches, butt aches or knee pains from long distance riding(600 miles in a day while achieving over 180 miles to the tank ! )
I also had to pass on the s1000rr because it didn’t have room for my giant PP. Now I just ride a supercharged Harley Davidson with a hellcat engine swap. Average 125 miles per gallon with the reduced weight 🤯
@@silent_fluo6917 I have rode a r1 don’t know what people talk about, such a boring bike. I borrowed my friends 2020 s1000rr and it made me want one. BMW is faster and better than any r1. Calm down
@@wrxluis2175 while I wanted to retort, I just can’t. The R1 is more expensive (base). Doesn’t look as nice, has less hp, and if memory serves correctly the brake fade was almost immediate on the R1 when he went to the track. As someone who wanted an R1 and an S1000 RR, I have determined I 100% prefer this bike. I say this as if I can afford either. So I’ll just keep my R3 pinned everywhere I go 😂
How you describe your feelings about the s1000rr is how I see the Hayabusa. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I do. As for the power, it’s so much better having and not wanting than wanting and not having.
BMW is like the Apple of Motorcycles. Everyone likes to shit on them until they try it. They make user friendly products that have features you didn't know you needed
This is legit one of the most fantastic plot twists of all time lol. I love the S1000RR (I remember watching baron von grumble riding one back in the day when I could only fantasize about affording something like this) so I'm a bit biased, but love seeing Yami enjoy the ole beemer.
First bike O owned was an S1000R, then I bought an S1000RR M-Sport and I love it, amazing machine. I have ridden a few other bikes, but nothing compares to the BMW. Yep 8 hours on this bike is easy as.
Yammie Im thinking about the s1000rr and a V4 and I really need a video of yours comparing feelings on the bikes... differences between electronic suspension and daily pains for a daily rider like me... as always love your content 🤙
The more Yam sings the praises of this bike, the more it harkens back to the R35 (on first release). You know what it is. You know what it’s supposed to be. But as you get along with it, it becomes so much more. Let’s just hope unlike the R35; BMW continues further development on this weapon of a vehicle and not just be satisfied with what it already is
I would like to see BMW have a power setting that actually reduced HP to less than 120 hp, and more around 80 hp rear wheel HP. Even 80 HP is still a lot on public roads. Currently owning a 2022 XSR900; with much less HP on tap the bike feels a lot more "balanced" in the sense it's neither overwhelmed by its engine nor dog slow like a Ninja 400/650. I think a power mode that acted like a 400cc inline four, that's somewhat difficult to ride if you're below a certain RPM, would make the BMW RR a really fun bike on public roads. There's a good reason insurance on these bikes are so high.
i agree is one of the best bikes ever made the most strange part its a bmw and they dont have the hi tech the japanese have to build engines so i believe the engine is a copy of a japanese engine probably a suzuki and thats why the bike is that good incredible for a a bmw
I've watch🎉you for at least 2 years now. It was obvious to me, early on, that you did not like BMWs. I currently own 6 of them. I bought my first one 3 years ago. It was a R1200RT. I don't currently own a S1000RR, but at the age of 69 I am considering it. I will be 70 this year. I live in Denver and love riding the canyons. My F900R is a lot of fun. Anyway, this video made me want 1 even more.
11:38 The most powerful thing I've ridden is my bike, at only 70ish hp. An underperforming, old Bandit 650. It's still fast enough and I get the sense of teleportation, but it must be next level on something with so much power. Some day I'll try it, but even with my bike, there's a lot of places I can't use the power, and on an even more powerful bike, those few places I can, it'll be extremely dangerous to do so. I'd be happy with an old mk1 B12 tbh. Tune it right, bout 120hp like you said. Usable, just enough for trouble 😉
I seem to remember Yammie dissing the s1000rr years ago calling it clinical,cI live in germany and love german engineering 🙏🏽 I have a zx10r 2013 and would love to swap for a bmw....
Well BMW appears to be getting ready to upgrade the 1000rr for WSBK. As its stockish bike series. They hired crazy toprak a champion and are pushing patenting VERY interesting aero but not being in motogp its gotta be for production run=wsbk. So yeah 1000rr may get crazy next few yrs
New to the channel love the videos. Looking to get my first bike do you still suggest the ninja 400 over the ktm 390 or cfmoto 450? I’m not a speed demon just want to enjoy riding with that style of bike. I'm a complete new beginner as well
I do not support the "Dad bike" narrative myself. Bike choice does change over time for sure because our disposable income, physical health and time available changes. At 70+ I still like to do the things I did at 16 but I also like to do other things I wouldn't have done at 16.
It hurts so much. Use to own this bike, sold it to go to school. Once I finish looking at something less expensive that gives me that X factor. any recommendations?
