Finally, a decent summary of the BMW brand. Most of what I hear is that these bikes are boring. I don't own an M/S1000RR but I've been riding an S1000R for a few years (2017 - 2020 - till now). Every time the motorcycle makes me smile and gives me the pleasure of riding in the city or at fast twisty roads. It is even suitable for longer trips. To sum up, I have never had any problems with these motorcycles, everything is done according to the instructions by the BMW dealer. Thanks and I hope there will be more videos like this.
I bought my 2010 s1k 3 years ago, I’ll be 28 this year lol. I hope to keep it alive and fill in the shoes of the old fast guy on an old bike. Even now every brand from my group loves my bike and can’t beat the OEM quickshifter or sound when shifting
Wideband sensors and slide control really took the 2023 bike to the next level, to me thats the best sports bike you can get for the money. I bought the '23 S1000R and I still want a RR, maybe soon. Great video man.
Thank you for the insight on S1000rr's over that length of history. I am still without my '24 after they took my '23 on 12/10/23 due to a stop sale on the connecting rods, or so I was told by the dealership. BMW Motorrad would not share the information to confirm this from the dealer. I have been in contact with your sales and since they took the bike with the tune installed, I have to pay that 400 to unlock and then add the new vin, I am not complaining but I tried to get BMW to cover that and they said I should have submitted it earlier in the process. I did beat my '18 RR pretty well and traded it in with 16000ish miles on it, for the '23. I am not very happy with how BMW Motorrad has handled my situation. I THINK, they should have told me to go to a dealership and send them the vin and we will issue it to you and keep the loan going. They are having me redo everything again, but whatever. Thank you for putting out all of this knowledge from your experiences and research, keep it up!!
i really wanted to buy an s1k but i was also worried about the reliability after seeing all the engine blown videos, but now i am really confident after seeing this video because if you are saying its reliable its goddamn reliable for sure. thanks for this amazing video
I appreciate vids like these I love the bmw s1000rr I did have an engine failure with my 2022 but since I had done things properly I did get my motor replaced I’ve just gotten the break in period on motor #2 and since we have had so much rain I’m trying to enjoy as much as I can
Great review video mate, I own a 2023 BMW S1000RR M SPORT, and I love the bike, the quick shifter is excellent, the electronics are excellent, the display is wonderful, I couldn't ask for a better bike.
I had a coil pack go bad at 13k miles on a 2023 s1000rr I don’t do nothing on this bike I haven’t done with any of my other bikes and this is the first coil pack I’ve had go bad . And yes I got the bike brand new
I own a 2022 BMW S1000RR M Sport (UK) had it from new so far covered 4532miles, my breaking period was about 700miles serviced and unlocked by BMW UK. Second service I done myself around the 3000 mile mark using BMW oil and filter, I have changed the air filter to a Sprint filter. I use the MotoScan app which I highly recommend purchased the upgrade to Ultimate version gives you access to a lot more, this I have used to reset the service light and changed the service interval from 6000miles to 3000miles. The BMW is insane totally reliable a real pleasure to ride
I sold my GSX-R600 and I bought one S1000RR 24, I have a feeling that both are good bikes. But… the RR needs more attention to the details and dealer instructions ❤
@@th33ng bmw Motorrad dealers suck honestly, I work for the cars side and our warranty kills motorads, you will think it's the other way around, with motorcycles
@@ghostvardy6693 Thanks for sharing this information. I'm not living in the States and maybe my experience is quite different. Where I live the Motorrad dealers are much better than other brands (Yamaha, Suzuki). BMW around here is like "cost to be a boss" 💸.
The s1000rr engine gives race bike power to the masses, with shift cam the engine makes a ton of torque in the mid range, they are remarkable. The m1000rr is the basis of the race engine, it's easy to forget that. I was worried about the spate of m1000 motors letting go, but over enthusiastic running in seemed to be common in all of them.
Appreciate this video and all the videos you guys make. I just got a 24 M1000R and will be breaking it in soon as per your method. Then, next year itll be time for a BT tune. Keep up the good work guys, cheers from up north in Canada.
I had TWO solenoids, a few months apart, give out on my 21 S1000RR. On the good side: BMW roadside assistance is responsive (can run circles around slow AAA). Traded the 21 in for the 23 M1000R. Happiness ensues.
Cool review. Thanks! My 2020 s1k m package on 7,600 miles got 4th cycle issue. When I bought this machine looks nice and fresh, but after 300 miles my owners engine blows up. The first owner put 1st stage BT and bike driving nice. The Dealer diagnostic over rpm abuses the reason engine failure. Not cover by extended warranty. When open engine the piston is crashed cylinder. Need replace the engine. New engine cost $11,750 labor include. Nothing to say, got bad experience.

If I had to place bets on which bike was more comfortable for both short term and medium term riding on the roads(including short 300 mile touring stints), out of all the bikes(bmw s1000rr, ducati panigale v4/v4s/v4R, Aprilia 1100 and kawasaki ninja h2), I would without a doubt choose the s1000RR every single time in every single instance 😁
I own an 22 M1K and SP2 and can unequivocally say that after riding the Ducati around for a couple days, getting back on the M1K feels like a cruiser bike, it's that comfortable.

I have a 22 with the BT moto stage 2 tune on it. It's around 4,500 miles. And I've only had 1 recall for a sensor. Literally never had an issues with it and I do ride it pretty hard.

I thought this was a well balanced review, my M1000rr is BT Moto Stage 2 with everything and ive followed this advice and its been fine and i hammer it hard, no smoking. My company also sponsors a team in BSB which runs BMW and they said the same, stick to BMW oil (which they said is developed by Shell) and they no issues with their engines either.

I had NO idea you all were at ShiftS3ctor events in an official capacity. I've got your stage 2 on my S1000R and have been mulling running it at Indy end of this summer. Hope to see you in KS as that's the earliest one I hope to have the M8 Comp prepperd for. Cheers.
Totally agree with your whole video, well done, you nailed it 100%. I’ve had multiple BMW’s, 2022’s & 2023’s, but was one of the unlucky ones that had a rod go on the 2023 @ 3500km. It was tuned with straight thru exhaust and ridden hard(not thrashed) but was serviced and looked after. Fully done under warranty by BMW. Service was excellent. Can’t fault BMW
Just bought a 2024 premium package. From the day I drive it home from The dealer, it had a “fault in engine” code come up on the dash. Bike broke down with no throttle response and then I was told they had to change a “cam sensor” if I’m correct.
Had the 2012 s1000 with bearing issue (recall was done) after that the conrod ended up out true the engine caseing nearly killed off it I can't articulate how difficult BMW where to deal with i WILL never buy a BMW again pile of crap Ps was broke in and was 100% Stock
Yeah that is an old bike but the new s1000rr are great! Now, Mani, over at Motomillion, had an engine blowout on his m1000RR and BMW didn't even honor the warranty. So, that alone would keep me from buying the m1000RR at least. But, I would trust the s1000RR since the internals are not exactly the same as that of the m1000RR. Also, Bill, over at CaliMoto, had a blowout on his M1000R bike while on the track and that told me NOT to get that particular bike...lol..lol
@@K-carbon that's a pretty sad state of affairs . The ONLY way around that is to ignore the bmw brand alltogether and go to one of their competitors and then ride the competitiors bike in the front of their store every day for a week...lol..lol
Sorry to hear that. There will always be a lemon here in there with every manufacturer. As stated in the video, make sure you have a good relationship with your dealer and always CYA with records. BMW may not be perfect, but who is? We have been lucky dealing with BMW Motorrad since 2010 and have a great relationship with multiple dealers. Poor treatment of the customer is never justified but hopefully they can make it up to you some day.
@@BT_Moto My man; there's is a really nice bmw dealership about 5 minute drive down the street from where we live so it's easy to bring the bike to them if any issues occur for sure. There's also 2 other excellent mechanics, that used to work for that dealership, who are 20 year veterans, and they now each have their own shop, with plenty of 5 star reviews, and the maintenance prices are nearly 50% less than bringing the bike to the actual bmw dealership...I really like BMW s1000RR. With that said there's a KTM dealership as well as a Suzuki Hayabusa dealership; but I'm sticking with BMW for sure...About 20 miles or so from where I live there's a Ducati dealership called Coleman Powersports(Yes, the same dealership that 650iB will be at both today, April 26th & 27th) which is located in Woodbridge, Virginia. But, personally, I don't trust their mechanics and have seen too many horror incidents and read too many stories of the negative issues with the mechanics. But, it would be a good place to buy a motorcycle. I would still choose BMW :)
At 42 yrs old . Been in the roll race scene for a while. These bikes are just hit or miss just like their cars. When they are running good they are beasts but when problems occur forget it. Bmw looks for any reason to void . Honestly I like your channel sounds like BMW has you in their pockets . As owner of few s1000rrs and e93 m3 platforms . Bmw not reliable
Not everyone has the same experience but BMW doesn’t have anything to do with our videos. Good experiences with their cars and bikes, honestly. Of course that doesn’t mean everyone has a great experience. Same can be said for any manufacturer.
Thank you Troy for making this video. I love my 2021 S1000RR and she has been bullet proof so far. I know you mentioned to only use BMW oil but what are your thoughts on the Motul 7100 which is made to be run on the street? Would you recommend it and I do change the oil every 3000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Thank you!
So do you think Mani and Bill worked these motors too hard after the unlock of rpms? I note that the unlock is between 350-750 miles, but BMW still want the owner to follow break in up to the first 1000 miles...
You mention “ Break-in” several times in the video. How do you break in the bikes. Do you prefer doing it on the dyno, or on the road ? Do you use 100% throttle early on in the beginning etc ? Next question. How can BMW talk about over revving ? Can they see that ?
Everyone has seen the video, and we're 100% friends and Mani is a dealer of ours. The point of this video is to just help customers keep the dealers happy and the bikes together for a long time. We've had an overwhelmingly positive experience with all our bikes. The goal of this video is not to out any one or say xyz was wrong, just point to what has caused problems on these bikes and what to do to avoid it.
Hi. That was so interesting. Yes do more videos like this please. I think you mentioned your recommendation for break in but couldn't see the link. I've got a 2024 S1000RR and done 486km so far, just been following the manual descriptions of no more than 7000 rpm for 1st 300km and now less than 9000rpm, but I've been doing it while street riding during shorter rides and varying the revs constantly and allowing deceleration under engine breaking. Sounds about right to you? Regards.
That sounds dead on what I had to suffer through on my '23. Look in the manual, it states all of the requirements for the rev ranges and how many miles/km. But here it is anyway Until the first running-in check, vary the throttle opening and engine-speed range frequently; avoid riding at constant engine speed for prolonged periods. Try to do most of your riding during this initial period on twisting, fairly hilly roads. Comply with the running-in speeds. Running-in speed
I had the opportunity to meet you on a track day in chuckwalla. I’m on a situation that I need to get my bike flashed or I will sell the bike. I have only 1100 miles on the bike and one track day, which was enough to get me frustrated. Why have a 200hp top of the line if you can’t use the full power/capability of the bike. My biggest concern is to get my bike flashed and have bmw deny my claim in case something goes bad in the future. I’m considering sell the bike and get a RSV4 Factory. I would lose money but… Please guide me on the correct direction and if you say that is “ safe “ to get the bike flashed and not having bmw giving me shit for flashing the bike, I will get the stage 1 right now. Plus, that cold start noise that the bike has drives me nuts Thanks and I will wait your reply 👍🏻
The problems associated go beyond general maintenance and break-in periods. The fact is that the broken bikes are outliers of the manufactured bikes. Throughout this model design, there are more outliers period. It's QC, GD&T design, and DFM by the engineers and comes with the release of a ANY completely new model design. I hate that our trying so hard not to say one bad thing about the latest models s1k
I’m apprehensive to put Brentuning’s maps in my 24 M1000R my dealer is Gateway BMW in St Louis. Have ya dealt with them before in tuning or warranty issues ?
We have dealers that sell and install our tuning, with no warranty issues, but there’s other dealers that will deny any claim for any mods on the bike at all (including a simple slip on). Ask your dealer how they feel about mods before your purchase.
I have a good riding experience with 150-250cc bikes and im pretty confident to get the s1000rr. Is it a good idea to start riding it on rain mode and start learning at lower speeds (i want to get a 1000cc cause it very difficult in my country to find good deals on other motorcycles) is it a good beginner friendly liter bike?
Yammie newb does a video on rain mode. Like the other comment said, if you're very gentle with the throttle movements from the start you might be ok, but the best bet is slow speed, tight turn practicing every day until you can be very smooth with the throttle, clutch, and brake at the same time. There's lots of learning involved, especially with 200hp literbikes (I'm still on one with around 150-160hp after over 20 years of total riding), it's very easy to crash from not being smooth in any number of ways so if you have to get this kind of bike first, again just practice, practice, practice. A stunt cage is a good idea too. I'd still recommend the Yamaha mt-09 or similar first for half the price and all the most usable features
It took Toyota to help BMW make a reliable motor with the B58. They were lucky to have that happen and now that motor is legendary. They need to reach out again for help but Toyota can't help them because they are in bed with Yamaha. Good Luck !!!
From what I've seen so far as an example, that motomillion shop does a lot of stupid sheyt with bmw bikes that harms the bike like what he said. Acting like they know more about the bike than the manufacturer.

You sound like Ryan Reynolds’s to me
Thanks about this man
I like your videos very well done. Great detailed information thank you 😊
Thank you for the information great review!
Just had my clutch release shaft fail at 5500 miles on my 2022 S1000RR. Completely worn out. 😔
I had NO idea you all were at ShiftS3ctor events in an official capacity. I've got your stage 2 on my S1000R and have been mulling running it at Indy end of this summer. Hope to see you in KS as that's the earliest one I hope to have the M8 Comp prepperd for. Cheers.
Great breakdown 😊
Totally agree with your whole video, well done, you nailed it 100%. I’ve had multiple BMW’s, 2022’s & 2023’s, but was one of the unlucky ones that had a rod go on the 2023 @ 3500km. It was tuned with straight thru exhaust and ridden hard(not thrashed) but was serviced and looked after. Fully done under warranty by BMW. Service was excellent. Can’t fault BMW
i love these in depth reviews
Nice video keep up the good work
Awesome information would like to see the comparison with the M1000rr and the S1000rr
What oil do you recommend for my 14 bmws1000rr
Great vid. More like it a must.
Amazing, thank you...
Daft question maybe, but how do you over rev with the rev limiter and surly everyone hits it from time to time do they not? Just me?
Just bought a 2024 premium package.
From the day I drive it home from
The dealer, it had a “fault in engine” code come up on the dash. Bike broke down with no throttle response and then I was told they had to change a “cam sensor” if I’m correct.
Had the 2012 s1000 with bearing issue (recall was done) after that the conrod ended up out true the engine caseing nearly killed off it I can't articulate how difficult BMW
where to deal with i WILL never buy a BMW again pile of crap
Ps was broke in and was 100% Stock
Yeah that is an old bike but the new s1000rr are great! Now, Mani, over at Motomillion, had an engine blowout on his m1000RR and BMW didn't even honor the warranty. So, that alone would keep me from buying the m1000RR at least. But, I would trust the s1000RR since the internals are not exactly the same as that of the m1000RR. Also, Bill, over at CaliMoto, had a blowout on his M1000R bike while on the track and that told me NOT to get that particular bike...lol..lol
Well it's there attitude with bmw customer service here in Ireland
Basically they get your money and F you after that
@@K-carbon that's a pretty sad state of affairs .
Superbe vidéo merci ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Good job mate 👍
@@BT_Moto you still make great videos though
finally i found what i was looking for
Hi, Are you using the BMW Sport Rider High Seat? Is it worth the money for a taller rider?
Thank you Troy for making this video. I love my 2021 S1000RR and she has been bullet proof so far. I know you mentioned to only use BMW oil but what are your thoughts on the Motul 7100 which is made to be run on the street? Would you recommend it and I do change the oil every 3000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Thank you!
That’s a good street oil and yes, we always follow the 3k miles or 6 months rule for standard riding. Can’t hurt to change the oil too much
So do you think Mani and Bill worked these motors too hard after the unlock of rpms? I note that the unlock is between 350-750 miles, but BMW still want the owner to follow break in up to the first 1000 miles...
You mention “ Break-in” several times in the video. How do you break in the bikes. Do you prefer doing it on the dyno, or on the road ? Do you use 100% throttle early on in the beginning etc ?
Next question. How can BMW talk about over revving ? Can they see that ?
We have a video on our channel of us breaking in our 2023 M1000RR live. Check it out
BMW the ultimate driving pos 😊
you guys should do an in-depth "how to properly break in" video for the new gen BMW
On our channel as we broke in our 23 M1000RR in real time
@@BT_Moto not gonna lie I commented before I finished the video I see that now 🤣
Any major mechanical difference between the S1000rr and M1000R (roadster)? which do you prefer for road use only? Thank you.
@@SteveSuric road use only go for the s1000rr
Are your remarks from these video applicable to the naked version of these bikes (S1000R)?
Could you do more of a comparison between the S1000rr and the V4 both 2023+ if possible.
My 2021 BMW S1K is an amazing motorcycle in every way possible.
How come you didn't say a word about Motomillion's broken engine ?
Everyone has seen the video, and we're 100% friends and Mani is a dealer of ours. The point of this video is to just help customers keep the dealers happy and the bikes together for a long time. We've had an overwhelmingly positive experience with all our bikes. The goal of this video is not to out any one or say xyz was wrong, just point to what has caused problems on these bikes and what to do to avoid it.
how many gsxr1000 engines blow up??
How would anyone know that? Dumb question
14
Not enough
Low hp engines don't blow up.
But here it is anyway
Until the first running-in
check, vary the throttle
opening and engine-speed
range frequently; avoid riding
at constant engine speed for
prolonged periods.
Try to do most of your riding
during this initial period on
twisting, fairly hilly roads.
Comply with the running-in
speeds.

@@jasonisdn Thanks!
Sounds like you’re on the right track. We have a video we linked that shows us breaking in our M1000RR brand new. See our channel. Thanks
@@BT_Moto Thanks, found the video. Regards.
What is the set up for wheelies
Would like to see an R1250RT before and after a Bren tuning..!!
One of our first reviews but still lacking a dyno on camera for that. 1300 coming next week with our prototype stacks
@@BT_Moto
I have seen the video of the 1250GS, but haven’t seen one on the RT.
I’m considering a stage 1 for my 2021 RT. Really enjoy your videos. 👍🏻
Bmw ftw 👌🏻
I had the opportunity to meet you on a track day in chuckwalla.
I’m on a situation that I need to get my bike flashed or I will sell the bike.
I have only 1100 miles on the bike and one track day, which was enough to get me frustrated.
Why have a 200hp top of the line if you can’t use the full power/capability of the bike.
My biggest concern is to get my bike flashed and have bmw deny my claim in case something goes bad in the future.
I’m considering sell the bike and get a RSV4 Factory.
I would lose money but…
Please guide me on the correct direction and if you say that is “ safe “ to get the bike flashed and not having bmw giving me shit for flashing the bike, I will get the stage 1 right now.
Plus, that cold start noise that the bike has drives me nuts
Thanks and I will wait your reply 👍🏻
Stage 1 and keep the stock RPM limiter. Do not raise it.
So if you get a 2020 or 21 could I get the parts to improve the bike over an M1000RR, or would it be better to get a 23 and set that up.
2023 is the easiest way. It’s 75% of a 21 M1000RR
Any issues you’re seeing with 23’ and 24’ s1000r? I have the single R and was wondering on your input. I realize this is an RR video.
That’s a pretty solid platform
@@BT_Moto Thanjs for reply!
BMW = Bring More Worries
Buy more warranty. (2020 S1000RR owner)
S1000RR Vs M1000RR please!
14:53 you say the quick shifter is great then why do so many people switch to a alpha? Personally i love my stock shifter
Nothing wrong with alpha but I don’t notice a difference between that and stock
Awesome Bmw
S1000R is the same ?
Which one is your favourite???
I have a good riding experience with 150-250cc bikes and im pretty confident to get the s1000rr. Is it a good idea to start riding it on rain mode and start learning at lower speeds (i want to get a 1000cc cause it very difficult in my country to find good deals on other motorcycles) is it a good beginner friendly liter bike?
In theory you could ride any bike with the right attitude/ discipline.
@@daveo9844 thanks man i really appreciate it
Yammie newb does a video on rain mode.
@@vtxgenie1 thanks brother
It took Toyota to help BMW make a reliable motor with the B58. They were lucky to have that happen and now that motor is legendary. They need to reach out again for help but Toyota can't help them because they are in bed with Yamaha. Good Luck !!!
Like already mentioned, I'm buying Japanese to skip a lot of this bull💩.
From what I've seen so far as an example, that motomillion shop does a lot of stupid sheyt with bmw bikes that harms the bike like what he said. Acting like they know more about the bike than the manufacturer.
