  • Part-wedge, part-putter, the brand new ChipR from PING is the golf club that your game has been crying out for.
    This ridiculously versatile, modern take on the old PING Chipo club that was so popular in the 1970s, the ChipR is so easy to use and is designed to help get you out of trouble around the green.
    Our new Gear Editor James Tait (@jamestait89) was one of the first people in the UK to try it - and let's just say he was very, very impressed.

    I just bought 100 of them. This guy can sell ice to an Eskimo!

    I bought one of these a few months back. It took me awhile to get used to it. It's a heavy club with a hot face. Once I learned how to control the ball of the face, it was a game-changer. My hdcp. has dropped 4 strokes. Reason: If I miss the green (usually do), I use the ChipR. I'm able to chip the ball close to the pin, so that usually leaves me with a one putt.
    Yesterday, I played 9 holes with my usual group. Even they said the club should be illegal. Out of 9 holes, the ChipR left me within 2 feet of the hole on 4 of them. Everyone wanted to try my ChipR after seeing what I could do with it. I didn't have any chip-ins from off the green, but over 18 holes, I usually have at least one chip-in. I usually don't make GIR and end up on the fringe. This club has me chipping within 2 feet for an easy up-and-down. For 9 holes on this course, I usually shoot 4-5 over. Yesterday, I shot 1 under, and that's not unusual anymore because of this club. Play back of stance, hit down on the ball (not too hard...heavy club). This puts some spin on the ball which will make it check. This club hits the ball dead straight...you just need to control the speed.

    I bought one and spent a a couple of hours playing around with it to get a feel for distance. I removed my sand wedge and simply use my 60 degree wedge instead for bunkers. The result in my first round was phenomenal, up and down from all around the greens, even used it to get out from the bushes. I've saved at least 5 shots.

    Great club, bought one last week. I've hardly been in the bays at the driving range since. Using this in the chipping area is just so much fun! You still need to learn distances, etc., but it's very easy to use, with excellent results.

    Seems like a good club when the reviewer wants to hit one more shot , great review.

    I’ve ordered one. I’ve been using an 8 iron for those type of shots but this must be better. Carry three vokey wedges but hate tight lies.

    Cleveland smart sole chipper much better and easy to use from chipping to 100 yr approach also cheaper (much...)

    Nice simple but effective review though would have been keen to see how much of the success was due to the club operator….Try the same shots with a PW of even 9 iron to see whether the ChipR was a clear improvement? As it stands I’m sold though!

      I’ve been asking for the same thing on all the reviews. Can’t believe no one has done it yet

    • @SmokeyRobbo
      @SmokeyRobbo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@orangemanbad I did just that last night and was pretty effective thought might have benefited from a flatter lie angle to promote the putting stroke?
      Definitely a good choice but maybe ChipR just does it really well and if there’s room in the bag?

    • @24jimmyt
      @24jimmyt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is so simple and effective. What I will say is the feel and spin of the face is almost not comparable. With the narrow and shallow face, combined with MicroMax grooves, what makes this so easy, is your not having to go down the grip or open the face it’s just a simple straight back and straight through. One of the best clubs I’ve reviewed

  • @pubmeatman
    @pubmeatman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This is so easy to hit. Screw my ego it’s staying in my bag.

  • @wentaowang2174
    @wentaowang2174 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Making contact is definitely better than a wedge BUT judging distance becomes very tough because of the roll and no back spin.

    • @24jimmyt
      @24jimmyt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’d be surprised how good the spin is. The MicroMax grooves are really good, gives you such great control

  • @mcnillerandsons7906
    @mcnillerandsons7906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I own this. Here’s the big con, this club is situational. It works incredible for specific lies that suit a bump and run. It’s not good over the obstacles and doesn’t get the spin and bite you’re used to with a wedge. If your course has many elevated greens surrounded by sand and fast conditions, this is not for you.

    What your thoughts on making the club an inch shorter with a better grip,. I use a 33 inch putter

    • @mcnillerandsons7906
      @mcnillerandsons7906 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I opt for my 60 lob in those situations instead of the ChipR. It doesn’t work well there especially with the flag tucked behind the hazard.

      I use a chipper to get over bunkers all the time. I put weight onto left side and hit it like a wedge.
