    Great honest review ! Thank you very much for all your details and opinions. 2 years ago you reviewed the Fanatec CSL Elite, at the time I was making a choice between the TGT and CSL. Well I already knew Thrustmaster had issues with reliability and I can now say I'm glad I went for Fanatec even if I had 2 issues (up shift paddle wont work and throttle gear potentiometer made of plastic wearing because metal-plastic is a silly combo). Thankfully Fanatec support team did a great job by sending me a brand new CSL Elite free (2 euros for packaging but that's fine), still have to sort out the potentiometer but it holds up okay at the moment with a few teaks.
    I've also recently discovered the amazing Dirt Rally 2.0 so another good choice for Fanatec.
    I'm still very curious to try the extras that the TGT can offer in GT Sport just as a comparison to the Fanatec. But I don't think it's worthy to spend 500 euros for a few extras in one game where Polyphony have done a good job supporting the Fanatec in the last few updates.
    Cheers Tidgney again !

    Thanks for the review, been having the T-GT since end of 2018, happy with it but yes i also have the problem with the rotating buttons, fuel map behaving the same, probably after less than 6 month in my possession.
    Also like you said not easy to clean inside the pedals, i had to unscrew the thing and clean with WD-40 because there was dust in there and that was messing with the potentiometer of my throttle (couldn't get 100% throttle or it was all over the place...)
    Since then no real problems.

    The conical brake mod is actually really useful as it goes some way to recreating the "pressure modulation" feel of a real brake pedal. It's not a load cell by any means, but it's a vast improvement over the standard linear braking. You just need to spend a couple of minutes in the game options calibrating the brake pedal.

    • @ConniefriendfromGermany
      @ConniefriendfromGermany 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      at first i didn't like the brake mod but i had to use it to get rid of that "click click" when braking and now i really like it! shouldn't they calibrate themselves like how it's written in the user manual ? :O

    i just went from a TGT to a fanatec CSW 2.5 and the fanatec is an eye opener.... the TGT is not smooth to turn at all in comparison, its a lot smoother than a logitech G29 but you certainly can feel every notch still when you turn it slowly, the T300 is actually smoother to turn but the TGT is better in every other way than a t300, certainly not smooth though when you compare it to a fanatec wheel though for absolute sure. other flaws that dont jump out to you until you try a more premium product are things like the build quality, on the surface of it the TGT seems very well made and in fact they improved on a lot of things over the T300 and its better cooled and uses better materials etc but again there are things that just seem poor next to the fanatec gear, for example the quick release system is not very quick release at all, the way you secure the rim to the hub aswell is really kind of stupid indeed, i ended up with more than one screw hole in my hub because over time i could tighten the rim on just a bit more than before which meant the screw down point changed, again fanatec stuff is just substantially better in this regard.
    is it fair to compare to fanatec stuff, usually id say no ofcourse not, you do pay more for fanatec... in every which way be it rims, pedals or whatever but the TGT was not a cheap wheel, it has to be compared to at least entry level fanatec stuff because its RRP was real close on release.
    enjoyed the review though, its interesting to see what others have to say and compare it to your own experience.

  • @Rapid_GT
    @Rapid_GT 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There definitely seems to be longevity issues with not only the TGT but the TM Load Cell pedals too and on top of that looking like they are becoming more expensive than other brands like Fanatec, i think this boost in price could be related to the demand with the amount of Sim racing going on and people spending more time at home in the current situation, regarding the stitching on my P1 Fanatec wheel iv'e yet to have any issues with mine and iv'e been using it regularly for about 18 months and none of the stitching has even begun to come adrift, the only issue i had once was one of the flappy paddles lost it's tactile click feel to it and they replaced it instantly and luckily still within it's 2 year warranty.
    A video review / comparison performance test of potentiometer brakes Vs Load Cell brakes ( not TM LCs) would be good. :)
    Cheers Tidge.

    I picked up a T-GT as my first upgrade in a decade to the wheelbase (from a G27) a few months ago. Was considering a direct-drive, but wasn’t able to hold out with the exchange rate, so T-GT it was, as I could see the price jumping between stores. (I got it at AU$1100, definitely overpriced; but it’s now AU$1650. A ~50% price hike!) I’ve been rather happy with it so far, though I do feel a bit of positional notching while holding long turns - I hold one position, make a minor correction, and the wheel “slips” to the next notch on the belt. Though I haven’t had the issue with the stitching myself, when it’s an advertised feature that “The leather’s sewing pattern has been specially designed so as not to be felt by the driver” (from Thrustmaster’s own product page), having it be able to break away is simply unacceptable. Moreover, it’s not even true; I can certainly feel the stitching beneath my fingers when I’m resting them on a straight in top gear. Not good enough. Speaking of which, the included pedal set is also not good enough; I’ve already ordered a T-LCM set, since my main two games are GTS and iRacing. A travel-based brake at this level and cost should never have been on the table if TM wanted this to be taken seriously for any game other than GTS. To then have reports of the springs failing on top of that is ridiculous. Being a tech-head, I have a somewhat complex setup for my rig, including a USB KVM switch repurposed to allow me to hit a button to change which device the wheel (and shifter) is connected to. Using this, I was able on at least one occasion to get the special T-DFB to work on a PC… and play music through it. Because it is literally a speaker connected to an on-board audio device, that is disabled in “Other” mode. No, I’m not sure how I managed it that one time, but opening that functionality up would actually make it a better wheel in my opinion, by allowing it to work with more software. Another thing worth doing, if you never have, is updating the wheel and wheelbase firmware. I did this immediately upon receiving it, so I can’t comment on what the difference is, but it stands to reason that it’s an improvement over the stock firmware. However, you do need to plug the wheel into a PC for this; given the main target is PS4, this isn’t exactly intuitive, and for those without a PC near their rig, they may never think to do so. The analog sticks drifting seem to be a common problem amongst all products at the moment; not only the T-GT, but also DualShock 4 and Nintendo Switch analogs are notorious for drifting. I wouldn’t put this solely on TM, I think a supplier may have decided to cut costs all round. For the dials, the only thing I can complain about with them is that the push function for three of them is effectively unused in GTS. I ended up setting the right analog to manipulate the MFD, so that I can check the settings without immediately altering them. The way rotary encoders (which the dials are) work, it’s better to turn them slowly and methodically, rather than just rip them all the way in one direction; you need to allow time for the sensing to occur, otherwise you will often get false readings based on skipping intermediate steps (how it knows which direction you actually turned it). I generally haven’t had a problem with them based on this. In conclusion it’s overpriced, especially at the moment, but for GT players it is in a class of one at this point. I just hope it isn’t obsoleted soon…

    About 12 months ago I almost bought a T-GT used for about £400 and resisted because it felt a bit too high. Now I really want to upgrade and due to Covid-tax and everything being popular just now in the sim racing world I can't get a hold of it for less than £600. Then also adding on £180 for the T-LCMs - whenever they come back into stock as well. Considering looking at Fanatec, but I'd have to get extra rims to replace my TM Open wheel that I love and my 599XX wheel I use in GT racing.

I'm a G29 user, and I find it... eh... sub-optimal ... that I need to use the up/down buttons to switch from brake bias to the fuel mixture (to radar) BEFORE I can change the setting via the large dial. How's this working on the T-GT? When e.g. the radar is displayed, does the display automatically "jump" to the fuel map, just by using the green (?) dial? I'm not sure if this would justify 500+ bucks for me...

    I am not joking. In the span of a few days after this review, two of the tiny screws on my T-GT had fallen out. Then, my brake spring snapped in half. The only reason I bought the T-GT was to better prepare for the World Tours. That's it. Yes, it's an upgrade over my old G29 but I kept it because I was aware Thrustmaster reliability was suspect.
    If you insist on buying a T-GT, expect something to fail within the first three years of ownership.

    My T300 wheel base loses feedback force if I play for longer than 30 minutes. I tried adding an extra fan and it does help but does not eliminate the problem. I wait for the motor to cool down and it's back to full strength until it gets hot.

    • @tidgney
      @tidgney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I covered that in my T300 one. They need an upgraded fan in the T300. Something you can do if you haven't already is make sure the fan instantly starts as its originally programmed only to come on when hot. If it starts straight off should give you longer playing time.

    No problems with buttons/dials "not behaving" after one year of intense use over here, however, my T-GT wheel gets stuck on the left side when self calibrating after turning it on (I have to push it in order to complete the process, it seems to be a misalignment of the internal sensor) and the break pedal makes some "click" noise when pressing hard. Thanks for the 2 year review! I've had my T-GT for 2.5 years now. The front screws started coming off in a relatively short time of use (I lost one of the screws!) - In a race last night it kept juping to the screenshot menu. changing views on its own... a mess! - One big issue that my wheel now has a very bad wobble issue. I removed it from the servo and not sure how I can remove the back of it. I heard and it seems that is just glued to the wheel. - I tried to read some of the comments but did not find similar issues... anyone knows how I can remove the back of the wheel that attaches to the servo motor? ... It is my beleif that the t3pa peddals recalibrate everytime.they are turned back on. Turn them on and hit the peddal really hard and acheiving 100% braking will be hard the rest of the day. Turn them on and use less braking for a few seconds and 100% braking will be eaiser for the rest of the day. I used the rubber mod and would just barely press the brake into the mod and it would register full after a few seconds. Then 100% braking was easy. Was hard for me to come out slowly thouhg. Dropping progressively to 80% then 60percent then 40 was difficult. It would just drop to 40% and i would get understeere as the front would rise to fast. So i had to brake earlier. I have the tlcm now and i have shaved .1%- 1.1% spa was a hard one for me cuz that track amplified my provlem for 2+ minutes. Got a 2.41.5 recently in the supra. Astounding gain for me

Problem with that combination is that right in front of the brake pedal there's a stand for your wheel. My solution for that is combining the clutch and brake with a piece of wood and left foot braking. My wheel also has ps3 support but its terrible compared to my g25. I’m sure this will be the same with all products, but the T-GT leather is soft and wear badly.
    What Thrustmaster does not explain in the manual is (but on the phone and emails,they recommend leather milk), the wheel needs conditioning with leather cleaner (my cleaner of choice was Turtle wax lux leather conditioner £5), and yes I can report that my wheel is in the same condition as first opened, after 14 months of use. Just apply when finished the game, this is my second wheel, as I complained that my car wheel does not wear after 11months and got a replacement.
    Tidgney is correct £500 is the ceiling price, but In my opinion the CSL fanatic should be this price as well. If you tier the prices lower end wheels avg, low 200, mid 500, high 1000.
    If I was doing it all again, it would be a toss of a coin between the T-GT and Fanatic. But only at my price structure is applied.

    I'm totally confused by the brake mod. Yeah, it's stiffer, but there is travel before you hit the mod. So it's like nothing and weak, and then bang, you hit the mod. I much prefer a squash ball. It feels more like a real brake than any other mod I've found. Regardless, the T3PA's are the weak link in this kit. The T-GT with the new T-LCM load cell pedals would be a nice combo.

    • @pwsmanowar

    • @pwsmanowar
      @pwsmanowar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spizzlo Braking accurately depends on the car. With the conical brake mod, you can set the distance to when it engages. If you're simulating F1 style brakes, you set it right up against the brake. Real F1 brakes barely move at all and need extreme pressure from the driver to actuate. If you're not reaching 100% in calibration on a flimsy rig, back of the distance. Having zero resistance is as inaccurate to real life as you can get - and it makes it harder to drive the car.

    • @spizzlo
      @spizzlo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pwsmanowar Right ok. So it sounds like a good solution for F1 style cars. When you say that having zero resistance is inaccurate, do you mean just the standard brake with no mod? Sorry to differ with you sir but in the uk at the moment, you can get a tgt, pedals and th8a shifter (which would be a must for me) for €900 or less on amazon/e bay. The equivalent fanatec clubsport set up is €2600! And the cheaper elite is around €1700. Where do people get the impression that fanatec is cheaper? According to various sources, the tgt is as powerful as a clubsport if not as smooth but the transducer that makes your wheelstand rumble in gts psvr sounds interesting. As an upgrade from my g29 the tgt is financially feasible (although still a rip off given the current circumstances)and the pedals and shifter can be modified relatively cheaply to give a satisfactory performance. The fanatec equipment is, unfortunately, way out of most peoples price range.

Now hearing that and the incredible price difference, I must have been looking at either a massive sale or a really dodgy website haha. I apologise for being a little arrogant. Cheers for telling me.

      @@fastandunstable6378 No problem man. I got a shock when i checked the fanatec prices online! I thought i could buy an elite cheaper than the tgt due to people on the utube comments sections saying that it was a real bargain. The price fluctuations are crazy at the moment as i recently saw that the cheapest tgt on amazon is now €999! I spotted a used, refurbished and tested tgt on ebay yesterday for €459 by a respected seller which means i can get the wheel, pedals and th8a shifter for a little over €600. I'm taking a helluva chance but its time to upgrade from my trusty g29 and get better lap times in mario carts! Cheers.

    If they sent you one, there's still bias. Like, your logic is kinda shaky there, dude

      It's not really abused, and I've had 3 of them now
