Appreciate all of the help but just a bit of constructive criticism would be that it's a little hard to follow your video without constantly rewinding and rewatching, I think speaking a little slower and perhaps repeating the more complex/loaded statements a couple of times would help
Hi Andy, where you are referring to a “first” card, do you mean that you have that card and use it, then shut it down and move on to the next, or do you have two cards on the go at once to maximise bonuses?
Hey people, a very beginner question: what Andy said was that some cards don't rule you out of the eligibility of getting other welcome bonus, but if I scroll down the page of any card on AMEX website, there's always a section saying "I understand that I will not be eligible for any welcome bonus offer if I hold or have held any personal American Express Cards in the past 24 months." This sounds like any card in 24months will rule you out of another welcome bonus of any card, regardless of the card you get. Can anyone help me understand? Thanks!
I have an Everyday Platinum. I got it years ago. I don't use it for much, as I have a 1% cashback debit card. I use my American Express for transactions where I want a credit card for protection.
@badgasaurus4211 A lot happens in a year! I moved from the UK back to Jersey (where I am from), and it's difficult to get a credit card in Jersey. Only HSBC and another company offer CCs. It's possible to get DCs from many banks. I would like to cancel my Amex and receive a new one in 2 years to get the offers, but Amex don't issue new CCs to the CIs anymore.
Would you recommend BA Amex Free card as a first credit card? Or should I start with a Tesco Foundation or Aqua card for credit building? I know people that have had BA Amex as their first card and have been accepted. Is there a disadvantage to starting with the BA Amex card?
Late, but I started with a Tesco foundation card, and just picked up the BA card after a couple months. I like the Tesco one just for the free credit tool.
Are the free for one year cards(nectar and gold) free again after 2 years of not having it like the newcomer bonus or just free for the first time and will cost from then on regardless of how long youve not have the card?
Hey Andy thanks a ton for such H(ANDY) tips:). You channel and blogs have been my go to place since I landed in England. Quick question-any idea what are the chances of rejection from Amex while requesting for a card downgrade after claiming the 70k rewards. On scale of 1-5 would love to get your thoughts on the risk of rejection? (with 5 being high chance). Thank you so much for all the awesome content
Hey Andy love the videos. Thank you for the education - looking likely I will have around 100,000 avios points by the end of the year. Do you know where you can travel to in business class /first for two people from the UK > 3hour flight?
I currently have an Amex gold with my partner as a supplementary cardholder. I have now started paying the annual fee of £160. If I cancel and my partner sets up her own, will she get the sign up bonus if I refer her?
Hi Andy, great content. I've had an amex for 5 years (platinum cashback credit card). What would be the card you would look to move onto if you were in my shoes? Also I have £140 cashback due in March, if I change cards, do I lose that? Thanks, James
Great content Andy. Any idea when the booster will come along? I only want the Gold for travel points with Emirates. Don't need nectar points so wanted to start with that one.
Andy, thanks for the helpful content. After triggering the 70k BA Avios bonus, how long should I wait to downgrade the card? I’d like to minimise the pro-rata fee but not jeopardise the 70k points. Many Thanks 👍
Thanks @@joshfairweather08, when you say credit, does that mean when it shows up in the amex app or BA account? I was thinking they might take them away when I tried downgrading. I'll keep an eye on the account, I might just convert them to Nectar asap to hide them away. Cheers
@@Stufluert They won’t take them away, just make sure you hit the spend threshold in the time period, and allow the points to hit the account. From the BA website: “Please note, it can take up to one month for the bonus Avios to be awarded to your Account once you have met the required spend.” So simply wait until the Avios points hit your account and then downgrade. They can’t take the bonus off you once you have met the criteria.
I have this and my next plan is the BA Amex, after this I won’t qualify for any Amex bonuses unless I got the Platinum at £575pa I believe. So I’ll probably look to pick up a Barclaycard Avios
Hi Andy, what AMEX card would you suggest to someone who has held the AMEX Preferred Gold Card in the last 24 months and can no longer receive most welcome bonuses?
Hi Andy my son has just got his first Amex (Gold) card, not as yet used it, however I should have referred him, I understand this cannot be done retrospectively butI assume he can cancel and we can use my account to refer him?
Andy, Thanks for your video on this, helpful as ever! I have a quick question, I have recently signed on for the American Express Platinum card which is on offer right now of 60000 points if you spend 6k in the first 6 months. I'm planning on closing the card early once this 6k has been spent switching the points to nectar. My next plan would be for the British Airways platinum amex which offers 30000 points if yo spend 3k in first 3 months, closing that after that period and then doing the same with he nectar points. Once this is done I'll have accumulated over 100,000 points and I'll more to the £0 British airways card and keep that. Do you think this would be a good strategy? Many thanks in advance
You can only get 1 Amex offer , you can’t just close the account and open another card to get the new bonus offer. You won’t receive a second offer if you have held an AMEX card with the previous 24 months
thank you for the great content andy! I unfortunately jumped quite quick into getting a preferred rewards gold card at the back end of last month as it was one of the better welcome bonuses at the time. What is the advice with this one prior to the charge kicking in on the anniversary in 12 months time? Many thanks :)
@@BeCleverWithYourCash thank you Andy, Amex confuses me, what I can/can’t do after this preferred rewards gold, my plan is to use the Avios points for travel so not sure what my best plan of attack is really

It depends how much you spend. I’d say you’d be better off with the Nectar, though check out my video on the BA Premium Plus offer running until mid Feb
it is good getting used to using credit cards for your purchases and paying off the FULL balance every month. This will help improve your personal credit
Hi, I'm looking at getting my first credit card with Amex. The one I'm looking at has a fee. You mention in this video about the fee being refunded pro-rata if I meet the trigger for spending the required amount. Got a couple of questions on this: 1. Do you pay for the fee upfront or when the year finishes? 2. How can I avoid paying the fee? Thanks
Hi Andy, I had the AMEX nectar card (got the welcome bonus as never had an AMEX before). Cancelled it just before my 1 year anniversary as I didn’t want to pay the £25 fee. I’ve just ordered and received the free BA Amex card through a referral link who also has the same card. He gets 8000 avios points through me signing up. Do I still get avios points through using his referral link, as I have had an AMEX card in the past 24 months? Confident I can meet the spend threshold.
Hey Andy, I got the platinum last year to get all the perks and now it’s time to cancel but instead I tried to downgrade to gold but they wouldn’t let me. They said it’s because I haven’t had the platinum for long enough. The other option was to get the gold, then cancel the platinum so I don’t lose my limit and points however I didn’t qualify… So now my only option is to cancel the card and wait some time till I’m eligible for the gold again. Do you know how long that would take? Thanks!
The more you can use an AMEX card and pay off the FULL balance, the better, as you will be rewarded. The AMEX gold card is the most rewarding in the UK
Hi Andy. If I get the BA premium plus card now to take advantage of the current 70000 Avios welcome offer, can I then also get the platinum card welcome offer assuming it’s boosted to 60000 Amex points later in the year? Or is it one or the other? And do you know when the Platimum card had their first boosted welcome offer last year please?
Hi Andy. I currently have the Gold Amex card and just about to hit the £3000 spending to get the 20,000 points. Am I right in thinking I can’t now take advantage of the British airways card?
You can get the Premium Plus Amex and get the bonus, and then downgrade to the regular BA card after you hit the spend threshold. That’s my plan after I’ve gotten my bonus on my Gold Amex
Am I missing something here? Because BA Amex Premium Plus is boosted from 25,000 to 35,000 bonus Avios until 21 February 2023. Where did you get the 70,000 Avios from?
Hi Andy, which credit card would you recommend for someone who doesn't have that many expenses? I'd love to take advantage of the welcome offer, but as someone who is only supporting himself, I normally only spend less than £500 a month, which gets me no where near many of the spending requirements for the bonuses. (I should add that I do currently use the Chase card, but my 1% cash back offer ends in a month or so, and so am after a replacement)
since you're not a big spender, sounds like you won't be hitting the welcome bonus offer so there's no point in getting a gold-platinum or more premium cards with annual fees. in my opinion a platinum everyday cash back sounds like a good bargain for you. (not financial advice) just my humble opinion.
If you do not spend a lot, a way around this would be to pay for friend's and family's big expenses and ask them to give you the cash in order to pay off your AMEX card
Hi Andy, sorry if this was mentioned in the video but could i get the British Airways Premium Plus card now as it has a boosted offer and still be eligible for the nectar card welcome bonus later?
