You can actually set direct debits to come out of specific pots in Monzo, so no need to move back to main balance for the direct debit - this is how I manage my credit cards, each pot is named after its card and the direct debit assigned to come directly out of said pot.
Hey Andy I've got a more advanced question regarding first time credit: I've got a two-word first name, and that has complicated things in the past. Some government agencies or companies store my first name in the first and middle name fields (incorrectly), and others store them both in the first name field. To complicate things even further, my brother and I (who live in the same house) share the same first word in our first names. This means companies and organization might easily mix up our identities. How does this all affect my credit history?
I am trying to get a credit card but am not working right now and all the starter credit cards' eligibility checks say I'm not eligible for them. Do you have any ideas on how I can be accepted for it? Also you're doing a great job helping people with finance. Keep the good work up. Thanks
Thank you for doing this video, very helpful. I did a eligibility check and I got various options, some were pre-approved 100% and others were giving me a 90% chance of getting the card. how good is a 90% approval?
Thanks for the very useful video. This might seem a bit of chart but do you have any idea if someone who has recently moved to UK for PhD study (with stipend) or work can get a debit card in about one year?
Hi Andy, I hope you are having a good day, I have a very simple question, is it necessary to have a current account with the same bank that you are applying for a credit card? Or can I pay with another bank for that credit card?
Hey man, Wanted to ask, is it better to pay off your credit card every other day or something, or like once a week, I can hit the 30% utilisation pretty easily and always have money on my current account to pay it off. Thanks :) am 18 and just got my first credit card
Hi. So that's a tough one... 10% is still a chance - and better than 0%. The risk is that if you are rejected, it'll hurt your credit report. But if you don't have a great score right now and the reason you want a card is to improve it, then it might be worth the risk.
Hi Andy, I've seen this advice often before... Only spend on a credit card if you can pay it off in full the following month. But then, what really is the point in spending on the credit card as opposed to just using a debit card? Aside from the protection on big purchases? If the point is the rewards, why do the credit companies want to give us stuff for free? Other than trying to entice non-savvy folk into a debt honey pot?
Hi Add, So one of the weird things about credit history is you need to have had credit products to improve your report. One way to do this is via a simple credit card. A lot of people are interested in these credit building cards for that reason - though you do have to be really careful not to overspend and get sucked into debt.
Hello Andy. I am asking for more information about one new thing the main one is about new cashback Credit card account from Lloyd Bank can you help me out please because this is my frst card Credits I am looking at get for a credits card building if you can make a video on how pay of credit card off each month and and show as how credit card statements look like please and explains if examples please for some like me like for a first credit card to build up my credit score please it will be big help. Thank You! From Richard Gorton.
Hi Richard, here's more info on the Lloyds card from my website becleverwithyourcash.com/lloyds-bank-cashback-credit-card-review/ Yes, I can put more first time credit card videos on the planner!
please I do not have a credit card, however I do have a debit card and I use for direct debit ,please does using direct debit from a debit card boost my credit score?
Hi Andy just started following you and watched some of your vids .. my question is my credit limit is £600 and my balance is -£340 in credit is that good and will it help my credit score being in credit? Also I get my credit statement and the start of every month example I received my march statement already how does that work when I haven't spent on my credit card this month yet? Also what's the most important thing to pay off first the balance or the statement?
@@aviationlover1998 if I’m understanding what you’re saying. Your credit limit is still 600 but since there’s been an overpayment. Whatever credit you use will just cancel out the overpayment.
I don't really know when I owed credit card but bank sent me my 1 first with limit of 750 & only started using it around 2 yrs with credit score ranging in good on its own site/app (not sure how reliable its as I don't bother with those things) , last I checked as I mostly used debit. I know I can pay early but what's ideal time to pay to built credit just in case, asap or near the due date/ exactly on due date or does it not matter?. Also I watched you cc & bank account video & decided to go with 2 more diff bank sant & nationwide for obvious reason after watching your vid but I'm still struggling with which cc to go for as I'm still unsure of things like use aboard /balance transfer & rest - any that I think might be useful for me may be cash back from paying bills/ weekly shopping being my one & only large spending , I would say I'm good at manging / work towards its as debit's something I tend to avoid at any form. So, I happen to be "eligible" for cc which would you recomment. I would like avoid complete digital/comp that's not local for reasons/newer/that don't 've much history. thanks
Hi..how about if I was approved for a credit card but I exit the application and did not sign the terms because I did not agree with it. Will my credit score be impacted by this? I do not want to proceed. What is the best thing to do? Its only my first time though and I was pre approved and approved. Thank you.
So if my credit limit is 100 and I use 30 and then pay it off, am I still entitled for 100 again or just 70? in other word, can I make a payment of 30pound five times a month and pay it off instantly after each payment? In this case, will my credit utilization be considered 30%?
Hey Andy. If you use 30% of your credit limit and then wait for your statement to be generated, then use a further 30% and then wait for the statement to be generated again, would this count as 60% credit utilisation or only 30%? As on the statement it would only show the use of 30% of the credit limit. Thanks!
It depends when the credit reference agency take the data from the credit card company. They might take a combination of different figures on different dates
I m sill confused abt the statement day, say I get the statement on 5th (for the previous month), so are u saying the APR will be applied to any money after 5th? Another relevant question is, if its to be paid by calendar month, why do they issue the statement a few days after the month?
Interest is applied after the grace period from your statement date. Say 2 weeks from the 5th is your time you get to pay off your statement balance before they start charging interest.
Hi Andy, if I set up a direct debit of the full credit amount each month say £100. But then only spend the 30% of that credit amount like advised £30. If I didnt pay the £100 next month but spend 30% again (£30) will they use the £70 I have on the card to pay off the £30 I spent that month? Or does my balance have to be in zero for it to go into credit in the first place? So if I spent £30 that will be taken off the £70 left in the account and wont be classed as credit? Hope this makes sense. Thanks
Yep, that £70 would stay there as a negative balance until you've spend £70. . Spend another £30 and you'll have £40 negative balance left and so on. This often happens if you get a refund to a card which has little spending on it, so it's worth keeping an eye out for
So glad I came across your page!

They can, it all depends on the card so make sure you read all the terms before applying

Your balance is quite high at 340 but it’s more important for it not to show up as high utilisation (>30%) when your statement is generated.

Not card related as such but does anyone know what Tandem customer service is like or the tandem bank in general
I used to have their credit card (they don't offer this anymore) and they were decent enough to deal with.
Nobody in their right mind needs a credit card. Pay cash and live debt free is much better.
