Test drive paraffin wax dipping tank

First time to use the wax dipping tank to preserve lids and boxes in paraffin wax. Results are good but there is room for improvement.

We were unable to get Insurance for our wax tank? How did you get covered?

I had a electrical engineer certify all my equipment at the request of my insurance co. Wasn’t that expensive. Less then 1 years reduction on the rate.

Is the wax straight paraffin or is there microcrystalline in there as well?

It’s a commercial mix called “hiveguard”

Thanks for the videos Phil. Great reference for a fellow Manitoba beekeeper . I’m working on a dip tank for myself . I’m also moving an existing one from a cheese factory . Just curious what you would recommend for size knowing what you now know and where do you source the paraffin wax from ?

I got the parafin from beemaid. If I was making a tank from scratch I would size it to be just big enough and no more.

When I watched Kamon's hot dip, there seemed to be more boiling than you had going. I wish they would sell hot dipped boxes. Not practical for a small hobbyist but I guess the boxes will last a long time. Did you get a temp on your wax while dipping?

I agree I'm not hot enough, I'm going to try again on a warmer day. I will also try to round up a higher btu propane unit.

what thickness of plywood do you make your lids with?

3/4”. Fortunately I bought the material last fall before the price increases.

do you wax dip for others......for a price? I have a few things that needs to be dipped, but not sure where to go.

I don't think I want to do this for others, Lewis does that in Macgregor Mb.
