Hot wax dipping

  • Wax Dipping… it’s a process for protecting raw timber, or treating hive diseases (AFB, wax moth). Basically you dip your piece into a vat of wax at 150C for 10-15 minutes. The wood comes out pretty hot, and you have to paint it straight away otherwise the paint won’t stick to the waxed wood. The paint also dries very quickly due to the heat, so you can get 3 coats on straight away.

    Does the paint stick on well enough after its waxed? Oil based paint?
