      @@dannpd1955 I ended up getting an 05 6-speed convertible. I have really enjoyed it and it gets compliments everywhere I go, but I think the novelty has worn off on it. At the end of the day it's still just a corvette and I feel like I'm driving a regular car with a bit more power, it lacks excitement. I plan on selling it soon.

      @@CurtisTheEngineer I understand about excitement fading. I’m at the excited stage. I pick up my new to me 2011 coupe in Arctic white in the morning. 32k miles. It’s a 3LT packaged car. I’ll be 69 this month and I’ve always wanted a corvette. I figured I had better get it while I still could. My wife and I are looking forward to day trips around the Texas hill country. I heard the only thing sadder than an old man in a corvette was an old man who doesn’t have a corvette. I resemble that remark.😂

    Every forum is loaded with oil experts, many with strong opinions. However, I have yet to hear from anyone who is either a genuine chemist specializing in engine lubrication or an automotive engine designer specializing in oiling systems. Your advice is good. Use what your manual says, not what you Dad used.

      I would have to say it’s either just a quality control thing or the dim side has a bad ground (causing higher resistance and lower output). Could also be an issue with online resistors if they are present. Get your multimeter out and start testing resistances to ground. Thanks for the comment. Let us know if you find the problem.

    I'm assuming most folks with manual tranny C5's and C6's have this little nasty iritation built in called Skip Shift from 1st gear to 4th. Annoying as it can be. Done to "meet" emissions. Anyway, a very easy fix for that. Just Google skip shift eliminator. Basically it's a resistor inside a plug on the transmission, left side, near the top..
    Also, if your Vette has Magnetic Ride control, you are limited by what you can do with shocks - unless you want to disalbe that feature too. (Frankly, I love it!) Offers two distinctly different ride and handling. Next on the door locks. On mine and others I've seen, just a little alcohol and swab it around on the PC board and contacts isn't enough. Use some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper and carb cleaner, or steel wool, and scub a dub till they are shiny copper again.. Then put on some dielectric grease on the the contact points on the other side, then put back together - will never have to worry about it again. These cars (moreso on the C5) have electronic gremlins lurking everywhere. They are usually traceable back to a ground cable somewhere. Check um. clean um then coat with dielectric grease - problem solved.. There are dozens of other gotcha's , but take care of the ones in the video, then research - a good source is the corvette forum.
    www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion-74/
    Have fun, *don't ever forget the corvette wave* to other you see. It's becoming a lost part of the iconic aspect of owning and recognizing others with a vette with a quick wave.

      The worst shift problem on a C6 is the idiotic 2005 requirement to place in reverse when you turn her off or the entire system will kill the battery faster than you can believe. This idiocy is why I sold my first Vette I ever owned.. I’ve had 6 others and never had any problems w them.. the ‘05 was cursed I think::: first year whatever’s @ the plant…

    • @avflyguy
      @avflyguy ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like they fixed that in the 2006 and later. My 07 doesn't care what gear when it's shut ott. The universal complaint was the really dumb engineering (to satisfy the EPA), is the 1st to 4th gear shift. I actually thought it was unsafe even knowing it's coming. Fortunately on 2 C5's I had found the resistor hack to plug in to the transmission - problem solved.

    Having a problem with my driver side door, it will not open unless i use the pull latch, but the passenger side does open, what is the problem with my 2009 Corvette Base?

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are likely experiencing either the exterior door pad needing cleaned (or replaced) or the latch itself has failed. The door pads are simple to remove, disassemble and clean with some cotton swabs and alcohol (or electronic parts cleaner). If the door won’t open from the inside button, it’s most likely the latch itself. I replaced the driver’s latch on mine. It was @$200 in parts and took me 30-45 min to swap out.

    I just found this ... lots of great info ... thanks!
    By the way, at least on my base 08, you don't have to pull the exhaust to get the starter out. Some sites said you have to disconnect and drop the front of the exhaust pipes from the cats a little ... but I didn't have to do any of that. The starter comes out with about 30 seconds of wiggling and twisting, and goes back the same way.

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  ปีที่แล้ว

    My gas gauge is stuck. It’s a 2008 c6. Is there any options beside taking the tanks off?

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The most common thing to try is Techron fuel additive. Evidently, the sender can get buildup on it from sitting too long immersed in fuel. Put a double dose in on a full tank, then a single dose for a tank or two after if needed. If it hasn’t freed up by then, you’ll need to drop the tanks. Btw, if you don’t drive the car much or if it is stored for long periods, leave it stored with 1/4 tank or less. The level sender isn’t submerged at that point and buildup rarely occurs. The fuels system is pretty much a sealed system so drawing moisture while stored on low fuel levels isn’t really a thing anymore.

    What if key fab doesn’t work in under license plate with a dead battery and doors are locked

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your key won't unlock the hatch to get to the manual door release you are relegated to one of 2 things. 1. call a locksmith to unlock the hatch. 2. see if you can gain access to the starter connections from underneath and connect a jumper box to power the vehicle. Option 2 is a total pain since you'll need to be able to jack the car up and get your connections onto the starter wire. With OEM cats this can be VERY difficult. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching!

    Holy-smokes. That was actually a lot of good information on the whole. I got two questions for you: does the AC have a mode just to vent outside air with no cooling or heating, just air? Also, when the heck did Corvettes change from SAE to Metric? I can use either, but it feels very "foreign" to be working on American metal with tools I normally use with my Japanese & Euro vehicles.

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance

      You could manually turn on the fan, turn the temp down, then turn AC and recirc off for just circulating outside fresh air I suppose. As far as when they switched.. Great vid, im glad you mentioned those run flat tires they don't grip and on a road course the hard sidewalls make the car bounce and become very unstable around corners. Is your clutch and flywheel same weight or lighter than stock, if it's lighter does it affect daily driving your car being cammed.

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The I never measured how heavy the RXT twin disc was in comparison when I replaced the stock clutch. However, this Tilton twin disc was nearly 2 lbs lighter and the majority of the mass is smaller in diameter. It is only slightly, and I mean SLIGHTLY, different than how the RXT drive.. and the RXT drove like the stock one except with more bite on a hard shift. I really like the Tilton as it comes with their 6000 series slave cylinder which is SIGNIFICANTLY more robust than the OEM part. The way I see it, the OEM part is designed to be adequate for the OEM clutch… if I’m running a much better clutch, why would I rely on a part not designed to work with it? (I like Synergy between all the parts and systems in the cars I build, hence the shop name).

    Can a loose cable wires ruin my starter on 2005 Corvette due to poor connection and low interrupted voltage?

    • @Mr_SynergyPerformance
      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I’m undertaking your question, but I will say that the C6 starter is known to develop a loose connection at the starter itself. It will cause weird charging issues and eventually fail to start. The starter solenoid to battery connection deteriorates from the high heat from the exhaust that is very nearby.

      Without hearing it, or knowing anything about your car a “ticking noise” could be many things. I assume you mean it’s an engine tick, which could be as simple as a loose rocker or a lifter starting to wear out. No matter what, if you don’t know what it is, take it to a reputable shop in your area and pay for a diagnosis. I think that if I were looking to buy a z06, and I couldn’t get 100% vefirfication that they had been checked by a reputable mechanic or replaced with appropriate parts I would budget for that to be done. Personally, if I were buying a z06, I’d already be planning on pulling it apart for H/C/I and the heads would be addressed or verified at that point. I do think tat the problem has been blown a bit out of proportion, but at the same time if they fail it’s an expensive repair. I tend to err on the side of caution.

      @Mr_SynergyPerformance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cannot give any advice for racing on the streets… I’d never do a thing like that. However, at the drag strip a manual will be much harder to launch and be consistent with. An automatic will dominate in consistency there. Roll racing, autocross, or road course seem to be dominated by manuals. Personally, I like driving a manual. There’s just something about ripping through the gears (within the speed limits, of course) after a long day that melts the stress off.

    I thought I'd answer your question at the 10:45 mark about why anyone would buy a automatic Corvette. I'm 57 and I've been driving manuals since I was 16 in my first car, a 67' GTO. The reason I drive a automatic Corvette is because I'm now disabled. I had major surgery two years ago and when I woke up from a coma a month later I had neuropathy (nerve damage) in both of my feet and what's referred to a drop foot in my left clutch foot. I was driving a Porsche at the time and started to hit things because I couldn't get the clutch in on time as my foot was unpredictable. So rather than kill someone and possibly myself, I sold off the Porsche and purchased a Automatic Corvette. I haven't hit anything since. That is why.

      First of all, that was just a funny haha joke to get people riled up. Secondly, I think you mean they’re more consistently able to accelerate without incurring driver error or variation. Because, FASTER would imply that the auto alone makes the car capable of a higher top speed, and that’s just not the case. Are they quicker? Sorry to offend. My rant was probably a bit harsh for some. Point being that asking random groups of people “what is the BEST ____” is only going to get you a listing of whatever those individuals bought for themselves. IMO a more appropriate question would be,”what would be recommended in X scenario.” People would get much better info that way. Asking a group about sale values, with no context of location is just as likely to get useless info. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.

      Faster would be a function of power and final effective gearing vs aerodynamic drag. Transmission style really didn’t determine which car would be FASTER. But in a drag race auto is typically QUICKER and simpler to be consistent.. which is why they dominate the strip. Thanks for watching!
