I recently test drove a C6GS and the 1st thing I noticed was the manual door release and asked the salesman what was the purpose, I just don’t know how people are not aware on futures that their vehicle offers.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Corvette. It is a spectacular car, and an unbeatable value. I have to ask, though, did you read the owner's manual that comes with the car? Every Corvette comes with a manual covering these secret operational functions, plus a whole lot more useful information. You should read the manual. 1) Manual door opening handles: you're the only person I've ever heard of that doesn't know the Corvette C6 has manual openers. What did you think those big levers next to your door & chair are? This is in the car's owner's manual 2) "Secret" way to enter without power via key for trunk: Yeah, not really a big secret. If you know there's a button there to open the trunk, 5 seconds later you'll probably figure out there's a keyhole too. Also in the owner's manual. You should try reading it. 3) Flooding/Deflooding procedure? It's in the manual section 3, page 25. 4) Key fob programming: yeah, also in the manual, section 3, page 7. 5) Transverse leaf springs: what did you know about the car before you bought a Corvette? I bought a Corvette and found out about the leaf-spring suspension within a few days of purchase. It wasn't unfamiliar to me as my 1971 Triumph Spitfire had a transverse leaf spring for the rear suspension. Leaf springs in the corvette weren't put in to save costs. They were put in a) they help reduce body roll, and b) to keep ride height low. You only have to crawl under the car once to appreciate this. The car is designed to low & compact, and almost every design decision is working towards that goal. The leave spring only needs a few vertical inches to do its job, verses coil-over springs which need a foot or more. Another bonus to the leaf springs is that an owner can change their springs and work on the Corvette's suspension, whereas coil-overs require special tools to compress and hold the springs.

Sounds like you are around alot of smart corvette owners who all know everything about their cars, which is great! I have to ask you, what's the point of you being critical on the fella pointing these things out to you, who clearly knows about it, and your buddies as well? What you don't realize is, alot of people watch videos like this one, learning everything they can about corvettes, trying to decide if they should buy one or not. None of these people have the manual yet to learn these things, and a video like this one can be quite helpful in learning and deciding. Other helpful videos detail known issues, for particular year corvettes you are interested in. Recently my wife and I bought a 2013 grand sport, and it was awesome to watch every video I could, learning about the car. Regarding the manual, I don't think you can always rely on it being current, or reliable, although mine was dead on, with a recent oil change I did, manual said 10.5 quarts, and it took 10.5 quarts!

@@FredFlintstone21 All good points. I think the car is overly complex. So much so, that reading the owner's manual is actually recommended. If the world were the way I wanted, nobody would need to read the owner's manual because everything would operate so intuitively. The Corvette just isn't that. I find the manual is mostly pretty darn good, for a car manual. Not as good as it would be if I wrote it, but better than one written by a imprisoned leper with a lobotomy. Most of the errors in the manyal are trivial as easily recognizable, as irritating as those errors are. I'm also a firm believer in taking a moment to see if one can observe an answer to a question before asking. People are all too quick to merely ask others. I GET IT. I do it too sometimes, but I really try not to. By the time I ask a question I've already spent too much time researching something unsuccessfully. Regarding a 2013 Grand Sport: I can understand that. It's a special car. Regarding deciding to buy a Corvette: Of course someone considering buying a Corvette should buy it. Duh. As far as being "smart," or hanging out with "smart owners." When I bought my Corvette I knew zero (0). It was an uncomfortable feeling. I'm used to knowing a fair amount about a great many things, and so I went about making that happen with a Corvette. The best teacher in the world is the car itself. You can read all the manuals, and watch all the videos, and talk to all the owners, and NONE of them is even a little bit of a replacement for owning the car and living it's personality quirks oneself. Most Corvette owners are not the get-your-hands-dirty types. I am. I encourage others to get some courage and become one too. You can read the 7 steps to installing an aftermarket exhaust in the instructions, but until you've go the car in the air and 12mm, 13mm, & 15mm, sockets, ratchets, and wrenches in hand, and you're marveling at how little room there is between parts (something NOBODY mentions, not manual, not instructions, not videos, not random helpful owner verbiage) you don't know ANYTHING about putting that exhaust in, despite watching, reading, and listening. I have personally risked being crushed to death 3X and have put in aftermarket exhausts 3X. Less times than some, more times than most. Thanks for the advice. I might have just been showing off a little bit because I have learned more than most in less time than most. I'm dedicated because Corvettes are THE BEST. Don't think, BUY.

    1. When you pull the cord in the hatchback to open the door (dead battery scenereo) would the door open if the window is all way up? Since they drop down when opening the door.
    2. I've read reviews on keys bought off Amazon, and people have been commenting it works great but doesn't open the hatchback. Have you had this issue? If no, where you get your fob?

hey guy,i bought one when the chip-shortage was a frenzy and dealerships could NOT get or have 2ndary/3rd fob...BUT to be safe/sure i had my dealership program my fob that i got off of amazon and it looks the same, and works on my trunk/hatch,the only diff is you can not personalize your dash with that fob(driver 2 or 3 etc) now IF you order through the dealership today if they can get them, you will pay double or even more depends where you order from also what dealership CAN get them(typically they dont keep them in stock)your best bet or anyone who reads this, call around to some dealers, some will also order from other Chevy dealers where some are fickle about that, but to the point yes i ordered an additional one from amazon, and works just fine(but i did pay the dealer to program mine, test it,etc)all for that service, was around $120 plus the FOB off amazon make sure its AN *OEM FOB* too.

It’s not a secret it’s in the manual also another secret in the manual you did not mention is the one that if your fob battery is dead there is a accessory in the glove compartment that you put the fob in and the module in the car will pair to the fob and you can start the car

Another advantage of Leaf-springs is the unsprung weight .
Compare conventional steel coil Springs to the composite Leaf-Spring.
One downside of the stock Corvette Springs, they’re non adjustable for Corner-Weight distribution adjustment.
A non issue for 99% of the average driver.
