    I recently went from a C5Z to a C6Z and I'm glad I did strickly based on performance. Both are modded but the C6 is modded more. What I miss about my C5 is an actual door handle, real key to crank with, battery location, and less electronics to deal with. But we all have to admit the C6 is a step up in other ways but what's most important is to be happy.

    The built in diagnostic tool on the C5 wasn’t supposed to be common knowledge for the owners. It was for the Mr. Goodwrench technicians. If you go through the owners manual, you will see the diagnostic tool isn’t listed in there. I think Chevy didn’t want owners diagnosing the problems and fixing the car on their own so they removed it for C6, 7 and 8.

      Plus, the C5's run ended before internet became ubiquitous. A lot of backyard mechanics can figure stuff out by Googling the codes.

    • @crowdnine878
      @crowdnine878 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Possibly. But you can get a free scan from most parts stores. However just because you get a code doesn't mean you know what to do with it so it was probably for another reason.

    Have owned a black 2005 XKR coupe for 10 years, and just added a Crystal Red 2008 Corvette coupe. The XKR is a sophisticated and stunning brunette with an English accent, a strapless black cocktail dress, pearl necklace, and high heels, while the Vette is a barefooted strawberry blonde, wearing cut-off jeans, a wet T-shirt, and with legs that go all the way up. I am in love with them both.

    Owned 3 C5’s and 1 C6 base models. The C6 LS3 engine has 430hp vs the C5 LS1 with 350hp. WOT is insane on the C6 while it is very strong on the C5. No extreme big difference under normal driving conditions. The C6 gets 60% of its air intake from its front grill and 40% from the lower air dam. The C5 gets 100% of its air intake from its front grill only. Wheels on the C6 are staggered 18” and 19” while the C5 uses staggered 17” and 18”. Tires cost more on the C6 than C5. Lastly, the fixed front head lights cost more than the flip up headlights on the C5. Both wonderful generations and styling may be the subjective deciding factor. Read where the engineers claimed to eliminate over 100 issues on the C5 with the newer C6 although finding specific improvements is not readily available. C6 is considered by some as a C5 Revision 2.

    • @Toys4Life
      @Toys4Life  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just looked and your correct - tires are a fair bit more for the C6. Not a deal breaker but definitely something to put on the plus/minus chart when deciding which gen to buy!

    • @arcsound
      @arcsound 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So which would you say is the more reliable with regard to major issues? And which one is easier to repair (major issues)? Is there something with the C5 that says the engine and trans and diff need to come out together? I hope I'm getting this wrong, that would be a major deal breaker. But this is the stuff YTers don't talk about.

    • @nikkoalpha2
      @nikkoalpha2 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@arcsound For C5's I believe the 2001-2002 automatic models have the least issues. Manuals need to easily correct the Steering Column Lockout. Pre-2001 models have to deal with potential Electronic Brake Control Module. The 2003-2004 models use a revised fuel tanks that can be expensive to correct. Avoid the Selective Ride Control and especially the Magnetic Ride Control where replacement shocks cost thousands to replace. Look out for 2004 with this as one cannot replace the shocks with others and program this option off. All must be aware of harmonic balancer wobble. Look at the battery tray to make sure there never was acid leakage onto the main computer.
      I believe changing the clutch requires extensive disassembly on both C5 and C6 models.( Engine, torque tube, rear differential). Then rebuilding the torque tube at the same time is wise. Most local shops charge $2,000 and up to replace the clutch. I never saw an automatic transmission needing replaced?
      I would say for the C6, the best are 2008 - 2012 models. LS3 engines are the best value and a few have had major issues with LS2 engines. I am not a huge fan of the C6 over the C5 with its added electronic gizmos. Plus I love the pop up headlights and curvy versus chiseled exterior design. Be aware that all C6's can have leaking fuel issues at the top of the tanks. Very costly to correct. Design flaw that is no linger warranted.
      I hope no one takes offense in my comments. This has been my personal experience owning 3 C5's and 1 C6 in the past four years. As of today, I am sticking with my 2002 and not buying any more Corvettes. Just enjoying what I believe is the best value model. Hope this helped out. Regardless, look for stock and well maintainded versions. Paying a few $1,000's or more gets you a much superior Corvette than abundant lower cost ones. Hold their valie too. Best of luck.

    Isn't there a baffle or flap on the rear driver side under the paneling that designed to release cabin pressure when the door and rear hatch are closed? if that is not working, that may prevent the back pressure from being released, thus making the hatch a little more difficult to close. I have been trying to buy a 2003 C5 for over one year now. Recently a dealer in Ohio (Millenium Yellow) said he would not sell any vehicle to a California resident (supposedly because of our "privacy laws"?), another (Electron Blue) sold the car while my credit union had just issued the cashier's check and the last one (true 50th) had a Corvette advertised that had sold before the ad came out. A Corvette in Washington state had the air cleaner upgrade that would not pass California smog testing, had the Z06 valve covers, and the aftermarket radio caused the dash trim to break. Since I have property in Arizona, I will register the car there (online) and leave it at a friend's home near St. Louis, Missouri until the Corvette Museum 30th Anniversary event next August. The day I applied for the Arizona "ID Only", the yellow was sold to another customer. There seem to be more Corvettes with low mileage in the Midwest than in California, except for the 813-mile yellow one that has been advertised at $39,995 for nine months, in Fillmore at Bunnin Chevrolet.

    I come to the godfather of vettes to ask a humble question, I cant seem to find info anywhere else, because it may be a stupid question: Is there a way to lower the rpm that the rev limiter is set at? I have a c5 that'll hit 200k soon and I've never really hit the rev limiter in fear of putting too much strain on it. Is there a way to have a tuner lower the limiter to say 5500-5600 rpm? Is there a cheaper route to achieving this? Is this something the LNC-003 could do for me? It would be awesome to have a launch control limiter as well but I dont know if its possible to do both, a launch limiter at 3000rpm and an overall limiter at 5500ish? There is a lever inside to open the door and there should be a place for key fob to go so you can start with weak battery in key. Camaro has it so I'm sure Corvette does

    Okay. The C6 door releases are lame. The C6 Bose stereo is terrible. Other than that, the C6 is a definite step up. I've owned a 2004 Z06/Z16 and a 2009 Z06 and although I miss the C5 (especially the FRC body style), the C6 is a bigger step up than the metrics would suggest.

    I saw one guy's C6 instrument cluster read: Let's go Brandon.
    You cannot beat that!

    C6 is just a shorter fatter c5. The c5z is the pinnacle of analog vettes. Well, c6z is a close second

      The C6 headlights are a big improvement for me, along with feel of HP on later C6s

      @@72blazer48 eh you put HIDS in the c5 it’s about the same, same with the hp. The c5 is actually lighter in every spec too. Stock out the box the ls2/ls3 are nice but my c5 with a full exhaust system would probably take a stock c6

      @@72blazer48 C6 jeadloghts are much better than the C5's headlights. But I do love the C5's popup headlights. Tradeoff and rarely do I drive in the dark anymore.

      C5 headlights are wayyy cooler, the C6s headlights aren’t bad but look like a Ferrari 360 ripoff
