    Skyward Sword had a unique distance rendering system. Farther objects become soft round pixilations, giving a feeling of Impressionism. The art style choice fits that rendering system. They actually worked on the quality of it in the HD version.
    A lot of people never noticed the Impressionism art style, but that's what gave Skyword Sword it's unique feel and soft, chill vibes.

    The art style is inspired by Impressionism. They've even applied it to depth of field in a mini bokeh kinda way. Nintendo is pretty good at using art style to cover up their consoles' weaknesses, which help the games' graphics hold up pretty well in the future.

    I hear people say they didn't like the world below the clouds because it was too linear. But I remember the idea was to take some of the parts people love about dungeons and bring it to the over world. Think about the volcano area you had to figure out how to make your way a certain location. It wasn't a direct path. You had find those mitts to dig around in the ground. Or fight a mini boss to get past a bridge over the lava. The time stones in the desert area were a lot like dungeon puzzles.

I kept playing with the motion controls for a few hours in the game to get better at them, and I did, so I’m used to them, they are easy, and enjoyed the moments of swords fighting and small moments like pulling the master sword out of the ground and jumping in the air to slam down my blade on an enemy. I had to reset the calibration with the tap of the button every once in a while, but I got used to doing it like instinct.

    Gotta be honest, even despite needing to reset sometimes, I feel like you weren’t using the motion very good in your demonstrations. I’m not that surprised it wasn’t working. The motion controls need to be reset more because of course it doesn’t have a sensor, but work more accurate and fast when it’s centered correctly.
    Aim your sword slowly and then swing. Don’t make big crazy movements when flying or swimming. Move slowly back and forth on tightropes (you can run on them btw). And press reset whenever you’re about to use motion controls. Just get used to pressing it preemptively, especially if you’ve changed your position. You don’t even have to point at the screen, recenter button will recenter to whatever your current position is so you can still be pretty comfortable in whatever spot you’re in. Seriously, speed runners are still playing the game the exact same way they did on Wii with no noticeable difference or drop in quality with the controls, other than pressing recenter sometimes. Which is easier than pressing Z target for every fight.
    Still, I’m glad you were able to enjoy it with buttons. That’s why it’s great to have the option.

    Here after a few months to say I finally got around to playing the skyward sword port I'm part of the minority that played 99% of it with motion controls and totally enjoyed it! 😃

    I didn’t have that kind of problems with motion controls, like you 😅 they were smooth and responsive almost all the time

    imo the motion controls were amazing i havent had a problem with them in over 40 hours of gameplay

  • @dethraid
    @dethraid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey this will help alot beatemups you don't need to point them at the screen to reset just point them where you want them to be centered regardless of where the tv is to where it will be comfortable for you to then move the gyro

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if your say pointing a bit down and not even at the tv depending on where your tv is and then hit the reset also when on the bird don't hold the joycon like that hold it like a kid playing with a toy plane

    This game means so much to me! It was my favorite Zelda game growing up 🥰 Oh and btw, I find the motion controls very responsive and easy 🤔 Where you centering them constantly by pressing Y?

    The art style was supposed to look like a painting :) And this is my favorite Zelda after Breath of the Wild. I didn’t have any problems with the motion controls. I recenter often though cuz there’s no bar. I really don’t like the buttons. Maybe I just have to use them more but it’s super difficult for me and took me longer to do simple things. I also play like how I did on the Wii and press the button the recenter the camera often.
    I used my GameStop points to only pay $40 for this game 😎 I didn’t want to pay $60 for a remaster.

      Bruh... I don't have any GameStop points I gotta pay full price for my favorite Zelda game I'm maulding and those really fkn cool joy cons dammit why everything gotta cost money?

    I actually liked both control scemes. When i used motion controls I got used to hitting y it became second nature and when I used button controls and then switch back to motion I was still holding down the l forgetting im using motion controls. For me it became muscle memory with these things.

    I have not tried the motion controls, but haven't had any issue with using the right stick at all. I've actually been surprised how much I've liked the game and the controls after what I've read about them.

      @@robertw31968 I mean everything is relative. My dad was born in 48... Wood is one year older than me so I'm relating to him feeling old. Obviously we aren't old compared to people 20 to 40 years older then us but there are a lot of people watching this that were born well after us...

    SSHD is a way better, more polished version of the original, but despite being without a doubt, the definitive edition of the game, it still shouldn't be $60.
    So does 3D All Stars and half of the Wii U ports that add a bit of content.

    • @sethmorrow1684
      @sethmorrow1684 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm begging them to re-release the hd Zelda ports from the Wii u, and I'd pay $60 each for them again, no joke, a portable twilight princess would be amazing

      Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are the only ports that I can justify spending $60 on. I bought some of the others, but I always regretted buying them when I could’ve just played the Wii U version. (And 3D All Stars, but only because I never played Sunshine and my copy of Galaxy stopped working) Also, on Amazon you can get Skyward Sword HD for $50, the same price as Wind Waker HD.

    The only issue I had with the motion controls was resetting the aiming reticle. And even that wasn't too big a deal for me. Except for the pumpkin throwing mini game.
    I hated that mini game on Wii. And the Switch found a way to make me hate it MORE lol.

    The Wiis SensorBar was key to get aiming on the TV working. I have to calibrate/recentre my joycon EVERY time I have to use the bug or slingshot.

    Objectively the most important lesson learned from this video is that Wood pronounces the letter H as “hay-tch” instead of “ay-tch.”

    10:41 I think it is kinda funny how he trys to kill the Deku Babas hanging from the ceiling with the sword beam and complains about the motion controls.
    For those who didn't know you where supposed to use the beetle you got pobably 30 secs ago in the dungeon (the first one) where those Deku Babas (the Zelda-Version of the piranha plant) are located.
    P.S.: I actually agree that the motion controls got kind worse on the Switch but I had to mention that unfortunate use of footage. xD

    We've played and replayed the OG Skyward Sword many times in my family, and I don't think we've ever had much trouble with he motion controls. We'll see when we play the new one, though! Hope they'll maybe patch it to be better? Kinda sad that an HD remake would be worse with that than the OG... Yikes! lol. Thanks, Wood! I love your Zelda outfit! Awesome job, as always!
