    I’m glad Scott said it too, for many years I hear people use the word “linear” as objectively a bad thing “this game is linear therefore it’s bad” I don’t get it, not every game has to be an open world sandbox, linear is just another type of level design.

      Nothing wrong with linear design, and many games are better for it.
      The problems with Skyward Sword go way beyond mere linearity.

      Final Fantasy X got hit with this "linear is bad" stigma for years and it's just stupid because FFX is genuinely a great game well worth playing, linear or not.

      Yeah the original Skyward Sword release is just a better deal with the Music CD. And while the HD version is good, I feel like I would still rather play the Wii version because the motion controls feel more justified.

    Good timing for this video as I finally beat SS last month after getting it for my birthday last year, and I had a blast. And while playing it, I noticed how that game served as like the building blocks for BoTW and ToTK.

    • @alyxoj1361
      @alyxoj1361 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would disagree. This felt like a step back before contiuing forward. Like this game taught them what not to do. I am not a fan of the game but it is not a "bad game". BoTW actually shares more in common with the original Zelda on NES than any other Zelda game. It dropped you in a huge world with little to no guidance and said "forge your own path" and it was not afraid to be challenging.
      I will say though, Skyward Sword had some of the best dungeons in 3D Zelda period.@@Paco8478

    A big part why the motion controls "aren't as good" on Switch is because the sensor bar would re-center the gyroscope every once and a while causing any minor tracking issues to not build up over time. With the Switch their is no sensor bar and therefore no automatic re-centering meaning you have to manually re-center it almost every time you use an item.

    Skywars Sword HD did improve quite a bit from the original. You have way faster/tighter dialogue to speed up the pace. You can skip cutscenes in new game compared to NG+ in the original. You can actually use traditional controls throughout the entire game which makes minigames and more difficult areas much more manageable. There is also just much faster load times. And last but no least, we finally get a 3d zelda game running at 60 fps and it does not really budge from that. The game runs like butter and the HD version made it enjoyable enough for me to actually do a back to back new game and hero mode run.

  • @TheRealJoeNathan
    @TheRealJoeNathan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I beat Skyward Sword HD, but I was fighting against the controls the entire time. I didn't like the motion controls, and controlling the sword with the right analog stick was unnatural (same with the camera). In other Zelda games, I don't avoid engaging in combat, but in SS I found myself actively trying to avoid fighting enemies and sprint past them hoping that the game wouldn't force me to attack them to move on. There came a point where I just swung randomly with the right stick and hoped the enemy would die because I couldn't care less about what direction I was supposed to hit them. Also, it was a bit too linear and easy. I didn't care for the dungeons much; my favorite dungeons are usually the ones that take a lot of thought to beat, and I might get stumped multiple times. I didn't have any trouble figuring out the dungeon puzzles in Skyward Sword, so the dungeons didn't really stick out to me, but maybe they didn't stick out because I was too focused on the frustrating combat. Also, there was so much padding, flying was so boring, and the skies were so barren; the game is incredibly repetitive and formulaic (you revisit Eldin, Faron, Lanayru, and Thunderhead 3-4 times each which just got old). It's a 20-hour game spread over 30 hours. It's a 6/10 from me, it's decent, and there are parts I like, but I spent most of the game being frustrated, and nothing truly impressed me. It actually took me two years to beat, because I lost interest during my first playthrough. I can see what they were going for, but I probably won't play it ever again.

    Motion control is better for the Joycons, just keep recentering. Switch doesn’t have a sensor bar, if you’re not recentering it’s gonna go off sync easier because of the lack of that add on. That’s probably why you think it’s worse if you’re not pressing that recenter button enough.
    Just recenter every time before you go into combat or aim. I never had a problem once I figured that out, and the motion felt more responsive and faster than Wii.

      I still don't get how the center drifts so badly in the first place. I can see Yaw getting squirrelly but one of the easiest things you can do with a 6-axis accelerometer is figure out which way is down.

    I played this game when it came out and honestly I did not have any of the issues with the controls. The motion controls with the Joy-cons worked perfectly with less than 5 times where I had an issue. While with the button controls, while it took time to get use to it, I did on the of the later temples just with them and had a blast.

    I think it was the Digital Foundry review that showed it, but they did rework the textures like they did with Twilight Princess, plus a lot in the visuals were touched, but because of how the game looks, it is really hard to see these differences. That with the mechanical differences, arguably makes this have more effort and differences put into it than Wind Waker, which while looking completely different, it was more of a global change, than the case by case in this.

    For anyone interested in making Skyward Sword HD the visually definitive way to play the game, Henriko Magnifico's got an HD upscaled texture pack for switch emulation(Yes, the switch not the wii) that basically remasters the entire game's visuals and it's coming soon!
