Watching this, I was actually impressed that the conversation remained so dignified; Karl remained calm and diplomatic throughout and the receptionist was extremely polite and empathetic also. He may have slipped when he said about the “harsh accusation” but he really was put on the spot and (I believe) completely shafted by his cleaning staff. Had he known what was going on I doubt he would have made such an effort to help Karl and made so many phone calls. I’m glad this got resolved and that you got the refund. This young man on reception, who was completely thrown in at the deep end, is probably the only saving grace the hotel has throughout this whole disgusting episode!
I snapped when the guy said that Karl was making a "harsh accusation" , and pooping in the shower isn't ! Karl showed a lot of restraint , the other guy not so much , but Karl defused the situation when it should've gone to the next level .
@@somecommenter4256 The receptionist had no problem pushing the accusation that one of his parents pooped in the shower after a complaint about the cleanliness of the room . The receptionist was way out of line and did not take Karl's complaint seriously .

@@sumanlimbu4551 He was polite for a person accusing somebody's parents of deucing in the shower which we all know was a lie and scam on the cleaner's part . The scam was like a chain , each person involved was a link in that chain , from the cleaner , to the assistant manager , to the receptionist who was the mouthpiece of the scam . The whole time he was basically saying it's Karl's word against theirs and acting like what Karl was saying was crazy , but what the hotel was accusing was perfectly fine .
Every time we check in and out of a hotel, we take a video as proof that everything is left the same way. So upsetting that they had to deal with this.
Yes pictures and videos of room condition is a good idea, how ever the house response would be you took the pictures then did the damage they would still want to hold you accountable.

You will never guess what some guests are doing...my girlfriend is a hotel manager and she has seen it all...and she works in a 5 star hotel. At 6:10 when he said, "that's a harsh accusation", I really wanted you to respond, 'and accusing my parents of leaving a turd in the shower isn't??'. Wild.
Thanks Karl for the heads up. This video came right on time for me. I am flying to Europe (from NZ) in a few weeks, arriving in BUD, and was looking for a hotel room for a night. After watching this, Novotel Budapest Centrum is off the list.
So suggesting the house staff are running a scam is "a harsh accusation". How does that compare with claiming respectable guests crapped in the shower?
@@grbadalamenti In effect, the hotel management accused KR's parents of fouling the bathroom. They had no proof of this but went ahead and charged them for the supposed clean up costs. They later refunded that money, something they would not have done had they been able to prove their case. That they did this might also be seen as implicit recognition that the cleaning staff had not been honest in their claims.
It's the 'Tourist treatment'. Ppl with money that will probably never return. I've seen workers at the Ft. Lauderdale airport treating innocent customers with so much distain, I'm embarrassed for them. Just like this hotel, management doesn't care.
Thanks for letting us know about Novotel Budapest Centrum I was planning to stay there on my next trip. After this scam I will change hotels. Keep up the great work 👍
@@reezevlog Dont say.. Go to look at filthy UK in the first place...fillthy like shit. So you can expect something like that from westerners. Look at hotels in Luton...:D West is f shithole.
Dont think anyone from the front office staff was trying to scam you. Most likely, there was one mentally insane housekeeper who got triggered by the complaint and retaliated. Unfortunately the bad action of one individual probably let the entire team down
This, "I can't do anything until the deputy manager's back on Monday" thing is a common deflection tactic. Amazing that the individual currently managing the hotel doesn't have the authority to refund a trivial amount. Sure he can if he wants to.
I've been working as a receptionist for years and let me tell you that we receptionists dont decide on refunds or what to give as compensation. We always have to go through a manager. If ever we tell the guest something that doesn't go well with management we're the one who's getting punished or yelled at.
You can contest the charge with any bank if it's a debit card ( it is YOUR money, not their). Just file a police report for being scammed and then take the report to the bank and ask for the money back.
I’m sure the hotel will then show the document you signed at checkin stating you will be responsible for any extra cleaning costs, not as easy as you think
@@Kurt0v yep and bank will come back to you saying you signed the authority at check in and deny the chargeback, I lost my key to a hotel and they billed me 500 to which I tried a chargeback and it clearly stated in the document I would be responsible for any lost key so it’s same here
I love videos like this, but it makes me so angry 😡 there’s no way I could hold my shit together like you do Karl. Good work mate👊🏻 Name and shame, my friend! Name and shame !!
I had almost the exact same thing happen to me in Cancun. One day they missed our room during housekeeping, so I called down to ask if they could send someone to do the room during dinner. When we got back to the room there was a card saying they were going to charge us an extra 25 bucks. When I called to ask why they said it was because we had peed in the bed. Had pictures of a sheet with stains, and everything. When I asked how can we tell thats our room or our sheets, they did the same shrugging it off. We were lucky we had paid for the premium class upgrade, so I got to deal with the same consierge that we had all week, and she immediately reversed the charges. I imagine they are hoping the accusation is so embarrassing that most people just pay, and don't want to talk about it. All in all it cost the housekeeping money since we stopped daily tipping after they tried to pull that stunt.
I always take pictures when I leave, hotel or vacation house rental. Sometimes, I'll take a video to show I'm leaving. Also, I don't complain while I'm staying somewhere unless it's something they can fix... no one is going to replace a mattress during your stay unless you want to be changed to a different room. When getting into a hotel room, check it out thoroughly first, then within the 1st 30 minutes, maybe you can ask for a different room. But complaining during your stay often does nothing. There's another scam out there where people rent houses and then complain to get partial refunds on their stays. So also this goes both ways, unfortunately.
As if a mature age couple are going to leave a turd in the shower. Accor is a huge corporation and this scam is disgraceful. I'm glad your parents were refunded. Many would be too embarrassed to demand a refund even though it's untrue and a scam.
@@ludwigwittgenstein2422 That is true. However I'd think that the vast majority wouldn't do it in the shower and if an accident did happen they'd be too embarrassed to leave it there for housekeeping to remove. I don't understand your comment.

oh man, Hungary is a paradise of scammers. You should stay longer and will have a lot of content. The souvenir shops are ridiculous. My sister went in one of those shops and 2 girls behind her intentionally dropped a souvenir and they started to act like my sister did it. Then, when she wanted to pay, the cashier was charging triple price without explaining nothing, my sister asked why and the cashier said it was because she dropped the souvenir on the floor. Then my sister told him, well, charge me only for the souvenir broken, I wont buy anything from you. She left with a bitter memory of Budapest.
I had to laugh when he suggested it was a harsh accusation to make that the cleaners did this….. aren’t they the ones that came in first with the harsh accusations? Accusing people of sh1tting in the shower!! 😂😂
If they took the charge first and then notified you, you should report it to your bank and unauthorized transaction. They will block or reverse the transfer, and the hotel can get a lot of shit from it.
Unprofessional indeed... worked in 4 and 5 star hotels in Prague and any such charges must and are dealt with the client directly before their departure and with photos showing any infringement and deal with the guests face to face...
super pushy, if I was the front desk, I would have told him to f off, he sounds like an entitled Karen. How dont we know their old parent left crap there?
I'm an American, and I can already tell you that this would not stand here in the US. I'm shocked that they haven't been sued into oblivion yet! That is just a lawsuit waiting to happen, and I'm utterly shocked that this is even going on in Europe. Quite honestly, you should file a lawsuit. It's absolutely insane that they're accusing your elderly parents of taking a dump in their shower. Not only is it nonsensical beyond belief that they have the audacity to try to get away with this, but it's also embarrassing for their customers. You should also write a review online and post it for everyone to see, including the picture they showed you. That is just outrageous! How dare they? You should definitely file a lawsuit!
A quick google shows that this happens regularly in the US as well. Also this low level type of accusations is not enough to merit a lawsuit even in the US and the case would be dismissed, at most you could file in a small claims court to dispute the charge but nothing for the "they accused me of doing X" since that does not count at libel.
@@Henrik_Holst don’t trust Google. This never happens anywhere in the US. Come to our country before you Google us. 😂 Hotels would be shut down immediately if they have the audacity to do this in the US because of health code violations.

Their €51 scam will actually cost them a lot as many people will not go there after watching this
Never thought of recording videos of checking in/out of hotel, but I will do so in future. Thanks for the video!
@@bryanobrien2726 the receptionist, or anyone in the front office staff had nothing to do with the poop stuff, of course he had to be defensive.
@@somecommenter4256 The receptionist had no problem pushing the accusation that one of his parents pooped in the shower after a complaint about the cleanliness of the room . The receptionist was way out of line and did not take Karl's complaint seriously .
Actually I was impressed with the receptionist’s professionalism, considering his limited authority as a staff member with no decision making power. He did his best to address the situation within his capabilities.
@@sumanlimbu4551 He was polite for a person accusing somebody's parents of deucing in the shower which we all know was a lie and scam on the cleaner's part . The whole thing was ridiculous and the fact that the hotel then tried to get the bad review removed is the icing on the cake , that was their priority .
@@vaIcria that’s good advice. Although sad that this is what it’s come to.
Yep. Create a video and leave the key(s) in the room locked.
Yes pictures and videos of room condition is a good idea, how ever the house response would be you took the pictures then did the damage they would still want to hold you accountable.

As if hotel guests typically take a crap in the shower especially after making a complaint about a dirty room...
Exactly... the lazy cleaner lady, whom makes a quick dash at 4 30 or so as if she wanted to see what Karl is saying and run away fast
Hi 😂
You will never guess what some guests are doing...my girlfriend is a hotel manager and she has seen it all...and she works in a 5 star hotel. People who poo and piss in the hall way, adults who poo on the bed, who spit in the room, etc. you are underestimating how dumb and uncivilized some people are.
YES, THEY DO. I USED TO WORK IN A HOTEL
yeah they did as a revenge. they thought the bed is dirty so i poo in the shower. they did it 100%
Thanks for showing us this hotel and what they did, now I’ll pass it on to everyone.
What a disgusting treatment of the hosts.... good on you Karl for taking action for your parents!
At 6:10 when he said, "that's a harsh accusation", I really wanted you to respond, 'and accusing my parents of leaving a turd in the shower isn't??'. Wild.
you are right. He was aggressive with that answer. I'm sure he is aware about this scam and already learned how to make the guest feel guilty
Totally, accusing them of sh*tting it the tub is a very Harsh Accusation.
Thanks Karl for the heads up. This video came right on time for me. I am flying to Europe (from NZ) in a few weeks, arriving in BUD, and was looking for a hotel room for a night. After watching this, Novotel Budapest Centrum is off the list.
Glad to see you stand up to them... Don't let them off the hook! What a setup!
Or the parents were already mad and did that. I believe the house keepers tbh
Thank you for taking the time to approach the hotel and hope you get your side settled
we cannot tolerate this , requesting all to leave a negative feed back for the hotel , thanks karl for sharing .
This was resolved over a month ago, besides, you should really find yourself something better to do.
So suggesting the house staff are running a scam is "a harsh accusation". How does that compare with claiming respectable guests crapped in the shower?
Well accusations must be proven.

Dont think anyone from the front office staff was trying to scam you. Most likely, there was one mentally insane housekeeper who got triggered by the complaint and retaliated. Unfortunately the bad action of one individual probably let the entire team down
The beds were frotten...HESQ is everyones responsibility
The receptionist showed absolute professionalism , bravo , more people like you .
really? he tried to bluff his way it of it, he was professional scammer
Thank you for reporting this. This should change their unprofessional behavior or at least cause them lost revenue.
This, "I can't do anything until the deputy manager's back on Monday" thing is a common deflection tactic. Amazing that the individual currently managing the hotel doesn't have the authority to refund a trivial amount. Sure he can if he wants to.
Deny, deflect, and blame someone else.
I've been working as a receptionist for years and let me tell you that we receptionists dont decide on refunds or what to give as compensation. We always have to go through a manager. If ever we tell the guest something that doesn't go well with management we're the one who's getting punished or yelled at.
This is what credit cards and chargebacks are for, I hope your parents can contest the charge via their bank
@@MikeyInThailand At that point it's between the bank and the vendor.
@@Kurt0v yep and bank will come back to you saying you signed the authority at check in and deny the chargeback, I lost my key to a hotel and they billed me 500 to which I tried a chargeback and it clearly stated in the document I would be responsible for any lost key so it’s same here
@@MikeyInThailand It's not the same because in your case they didn't fabricate an event to charge you

there’s no way I could hold my shit together like you do Karl. Good work mate👊🏻
Name and shame, my friend! Name and shame !!
Well, you've convinced me to thoroughly document each hotel room as I arrive and as I check out.

A quick google shows that this happens regularly in the US as well.
