- Did you think there are no tourist scams in the U.S.? Watch as I expose all the scams happening in New York so you can avoid them and have a safe trip.
When you're in New York, do not trust anyone on the street! Dishonest people are targeting foreign tourists with all sorts of scams, including the free CD scam, fake monk donation scam, rip-off comedy club tickets, and the infamous street performers' scam.
Besides scams, you'll also find counterfeit goods and illegal drugs for sale. Be careful.
To avoid tourist scams in the USA, research common scams in your destination and stay informed. Be cautious of unsolicited assistance, especially from strangers, and closely monitor your belongings in crowded areas. Use reputable transportation services, avoid street games or betting with strangers, and trust official sources for information to minimize the risk of falling victim to scams while enjoying your visit.

@@Dr_Shoe_ summer Bro. I have a long backlog as I do all the work myself on this channel.
Welcome to NYC Karl ;) This has been going on in Time Square since they cleaned it up decades ago. The child character thing is relatively newer but I bet at least 10 years now it's been like this? The guys with the CDs is the one that's been a long time scam especially in the 90s.
Make your way to the Toronto area! Being from NYC and not here, I always wished for more Indian food/culture in NYC but now in Toronto it is like a little version of Westernized India. Very unique, don't see another Indian diaspora like this in the world even in the UK. Come and stuff your face withy good food please would love to see a Canada video about the Indian community one day!

That fake monk should be deported or locked up.

I would have walked off with that bracelet he would have had to take it back from me. He gave it to me, if he wants it back he can buy it back.
They need a new name because they're are not monks. I'm pretty sure they aren't even Buddhist. I don't know any Buddhist who would dress up as a bhikku and cheat people for money.
We even had a fake monk in Dundee Scotland, but he didn’t last long here, come here and find out why
Why are these people allowed to stand around harassing the public? It’s just ridiculous how our laws allow this.

Time square is horrible. In 2019 walking through there I had two guys talking about how they were trying to get into the music industry with their new rap music, so I played along because honestly why would they need to approach some random person on the street to do that. I said I worked for a music label in Europe. They followed me two blocks, insisting I should take a CD for free, so I agreed... And then they asked for a donation, to which I said no, so they asked me for the CD back and then headed back towards time square hurling loud insults at me down the street. Amusing :)
That CD player was empty this is a common practice among these animals.
Humans can be nasty unfortunately
That was ur 1st mistake playing along should said naaaaa
It looks like a place to avoid. I have heard that people who have even in New York City avoid it as if it were an open sewer.
@@AC-yt3we - **CD PLAYER?**
No....they gave him a "CD" and wanted $$ for it.
having grown up in a small town, the first encounters with scammers in foreign big cities were cutting really deep into my faith into humanity. the godless, ugly, hateful glare they give you when you refuse to pay for something THEY forced upon you is something that still shocks me every other time. as if they were really dependent on that money to eat and live, that shit just breaks my heart.
The sad part is some of them DO depend on that money to eat and live
going to Tijuana helped me as a 10 yr old learn this.
ikr its so scary..i ddint grow up in a small town but a city, but my city doesnt have these sort of things
Dont worry its only like this in democrat cities.

As a New Yorker, it’s nice to have coverage of these scams. It’ll have a great reach on future tourists, especially coming from a trustworthy guy like Karl
Yeah thanks for these videos my vacation on New York last year I avoided them all.
Lots of travelers on youtube talk about these new yorker scams lol 🤣🤣🤣 n the scams in Nevada 🤭🤭
@Tausi Thanks, Mate. This is why I do it. I hope everyone enjoys their time in New York. Man, the food blew my mind. Impossible to have a bad meal there. The quality is so good.
Biggest scam is living in NYC and paying taxes to fund illegal immigrants.
I live in nyc and the mini mouse girls They got me before. The 3 of them. They grabbed my 4 year old at the time on holloween 3 years ago and they posed and told me to take my phone out to take a pic and then all three of them put there hands out for money so I pulled out a 5 dollar bill.
I put it on one of the lady’s hands and told them to split it and the other two put their hands in my face for more money. There is the male version in suits as well of them around.
😂 I remember the 'friendly NYC rapper' scam. I was a naive young girl in 2011 and got sucked into a guy's story about his dream to get his music out into the world, etcetc. I paid him $20 for the disc, took it all the way home to Northern Ireland, loaded it up on the computer, and yeah it was blank. I couldn't believe then that someone would lie to my face like that, but it was a lesson learned.
You could flip the disc over and see if there's any data on it. It'll be a darker color where information was burned to the disc. Do it right in front of their face and watch them panic
If a total stranger in Manhattan suddenly talks to you start walking away from them.
Couldn't believe lol
@@user-or6yn8pm3c As I said, I was young & naive. Also, it happened 13 years ago.

Thanks for the video. Hope it gets shared, especially by family/friends of people headed to NYC. No eye contact. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't accept "freebies". Wear sunglasses; it keeps scammers from knowing if they have made eye contact.
and wear headphones 🎧 even if you aren't listening to anything easy to act like you can't hear them
Welcome to the US. I appreciate the work you do in exposing scammers and helping to keep people safe.
NO NOT AMERICA! THIS IS THE INVADERS THAT ILLEGALLY ENTERED OUR COUNTRY! SO ANNOYING!!
Note: that scam almost exclusive to Time Square (NYC), LA Sidewalks, and Las Vegas. Been an American all my life and I have never seen this anywhere other than Time Square and Las Vegas, or LA Sidewalks. It’s extremely specific to those areas. I am not aware of anywhere in Florida (where I live) there are any character scams. Here in FL we just have the regular Disney experience to drain your entire life savings…..lol😅
Yup. You don’t get this in Chicago either. Except for the CD guys.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙄
That's the same for every country. All tourist places have scammers but not in entire country
And a lot of them aren't from the US. They bring their scams from other countries here.
Where do you live around?
Native New Yorker here. Thank you for putting a light on these freaks.
Indeed
Did you just move to New york? You act like such things are out of the ordinary. That's what many people find attractive about the city. The "freaks". As long as they're not harming you, and you use your common sense, you should appreciate the fact that you live in a tolerant environment where "weird" people allowed to do their thing. If you've ever lived in a suffocating small town environment where you can't express yourself you would know what I'm talking about. And New York City cops generally have much more serious things to do than worry about these people. Just use your common sense. And enjoy the free entertainment.
But European-Americans had killed Native Americans.
Karl, you are 90% correct on these scams. Where you are wrong: 1) You won’t see this in Virginia or Tennessee. This is a NYC, Vegas, and Hollywood thing. 2) The comedy club tickets are usually legit. 3) The drink minimum is usually 2-I have never seen a 4 drink minimum.
Thank you for exposing these scammers to prevent others, what you do is valuable and appreciated.
“Pewdie pie on crack” Karl, you’re hilarious..I spit tea over my iPad 😆

its a thing from the time Karl's channel was growing back in 2016-17. Old subscribers would know.

Hahahaha I saw your comment as I was watching and was thinking who's gonna say that? Can't believe it was himself that called him that, so self-aware I love it!
As a New Yorker, i absolutely hate times square with a burning passion. thank you karl
I'm a new yorker I avoid time Square like the plague
Yeah, I love New York. But not Times Square. But I went there daily to buy the discounted theatre tickets so I could see as many shows as possible while there.
I have the same sentiments but in a different city, sin city Las Vegas to be exact LOL! I really can't avoid Las Vegas Blvd (strip) as I work there but that is the only time that I step foot on it. Off the bus and straight to work and vice versa going home but I do have to navigate the gauntlet of costumed characters, monks and ticket sellers.
As a South Georgia country girl , why do you hate times square? I live out in the middle of nowhere , I have only three neighbors around me for two miles. I would probably be nervous to be around so many people at once

The side eye from that 'monk' - LOL!!

"Charlie Brown" was not happy!
When the monk puts the bracelet on my arm it’s mine.
Just start walking away
Yessss lol same
Yeaaa but no. The bracelet will be crap, you KNOW the moment the "monk" approaches you that he's not giving you anything and he's absolutely going to hit you up for $$$ for that crappy bracelet, and by accepting it you're just inviting a predictable hassle. Unless you actually want a conflict with someone, it's easier to just say No and walk away.
What if they put a curse on the bracelete and the only way to bless it is with monetary compensation.

So I live across the river in New Jersey. And actually you're right, these scammers are a pain in the ass. When I was in the city I always see people getting scam. Hell I have to step in a few times with my friends to push people away from these scammers
i wasn't prepared for the smooth "weed or cocaine" question and I CERTAINLY was not prepared for the even smoother "Pewdiepie on crack" remark. LMAO!!!!
Oh wow. I bumped into a 'monk' on nyc's HighLine some years back. Same scam. Check out that monks footwear...pretty blingy boots hey! Monks, REAL ONES, would never wear those. Times square definitely IS a scammy hotspot. Great video Karl !!😊 greetings from aus 🇦🇺

As a New Yorker, I found this video so awesome. These Times Square scammers suck but keep in mind that 99.9% of actual New Yorkers and the majority of tourists will not fall for this. Hope you enjoy nyc and explore all of NYC, not just the tourist traps. If you can link up with the legend Casey neistat, that would such a groundbreaking collab

Yea as a fellow New Yorker from Long Island, I wonder how much of this is lost on people that aren't from NY lol.
Also it's funny when ever someone says they are a New Yorker and you ask what part and if they say anything other than NYC or Long Island.. Doesn't count.
There is actual New York, and then there is upstate, for those that don't know. The two are very different. Upstate or just NY state is like anywhere else.
While you're in the city check out marinara for some slammin pizza without the wait
Bagel express has good bagels for cheap on 26th and 3rd

I love the fact you are videoing the scammers to educate people ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Most NYC residents and natives stay away from Times Square unless they're passing through to get to shows. It's mostly for tourists, which is why it's full of scammers. They know people not from here don't know any better and are susceptible to folks who seem friendly. Times Square is really not representative of the city as a whole, so I hope you were able to visit some of the outer boroughs to see how most regular New Yorkers live. As always, kudos to you for exposing scams wherever you may find them, ESPECIALLY in my hometown!
you dont need blessings man, you are a blessing for this. shit like this needs to be broadcasted on national news so elderly people stop making these scammers rich.
Old people aren't safe anywhere. They will get phone calls, emails, text, stuff like this. You have to be aware of scamming everywhere.
I deal with people getting romance scammed, finance scammed, thw Ethiopian prince scam is real. Also people posing as celebrities to get money from people. Some people are trully gullible.
8:53 Scammer: We're here to stop the violence, 9:31 do you want some weed or coke.😅😅😅
What does violence have to do with weed or coke ? They're simply substances the fact they are illegal is where the trouble begins because vendors have no legal recourse if they are robbed etc .Also in the case of powders anything could be in them since the market isnt regulated and is just another failure of the government in its duty of care.
@@davidinmossy Atr you stupid? For what purpose could we ever need to be using cocaine? You just wanna replicate the old coca cola recipe for a good time? I don't buy it. This shit is addicting and you think these plugs are just gonna abide by the rules of the law if they were legal?
@@davidinmossy Are you trying to play dumb on purpose or just plain are? Drugs on the 'black market' usually comes with some form of violence if the business. All the way from robbing to get getting killed over them. Either by competition or a fiend.
Edit: I understand your stance and where you're coming from but let's not kid ourselves. The people who push these things usually aren't any people who have good intentions or pass out reliable products. I do agree our government is a failure and the norm should change but we shouldn't necessarily just enable people to get high. Like you said, it isn't the purest of stuff and if a person gets ripped off. Who's to say they don't retaliate.

Nice video! It's entertaining seeing you meet scammers and give them a reality check. Two things come to mind: police allow the harassment to exist because the money flows anyway, and the offering CDs and shit is just a front for selling drugs.
Most of these guys are one interaction away from ending up in jail. THE WORST HUMAN BEINGS
8:01 weed was legalized in NY so you smell it EVERYWHERE because you can smoke it on the street. That was one of the first things I’ve noticed when I went back.
Ngl i wanna go to New York, but that would reallyy annoying tf outta me. No hate, live your life, but be atleast someone considerate to other people.
That's a shame that you can smoke it in the streets too, I really hate weed smell, it makes me feel sick. It's so disrespectful, same with cigarette smoke to smoke on public places with lots of people.
@@teijaflink2226Just about everywhere in the United States, including those states where it’s still criminalized, you’ll smell marijuana in most public places. Malls, sidewalks, parks, colleges, parking lots, storefronts, etc. While I support its legalization, it’s definitely bothersome, especially in NYC where you’ll get hit by marijuana smoke clouds from people smoking near you. This occurs in busy areas like times-square and Central Park too. It’s the smell you can’t escape while in NYC. It definitely wasn’t like that before legalization.
I agree, ever since it was legalized in OK, I smell it absolutely everywhere, even in my apartment. It's really annoying.
Does it cover the piss smell? Because I'd be okay with that

6:36 At the Eiffel Tower I was also harassed by a group of women. If you MERELY READ the sign they are holding they expect payment. We were told to divert our eyes. I, a bit of a rebel at the time, was like “screw that, I’ll look where I want”. Made eye contact with one, and decided to look up and read her sign. Instantly she shuffled over with her hand out and goes “excuse me, money for prayer?” And I said no thank you. She then insisted, by me reading the sign, the prayer was finished. I can’t remember if she was the same person who was trying to raise money for a deaf school or not. But we were warned those dead school things are a scam as well. Unfortunately very few are actually raising money for deaf/blind schools. So the ones that are real.. go underfunded because everyone thinks it’s a scam. We were told to make donations directly. The SICKEST thing was when we went to an orphanage in Italy and people were outside asking for money for the orphanage. We were immediately told ALL OF THEM were completely unaffiliated.

An abandoned house in the neighborhood was torn down, and the monks built a playground for everyone around here. They didn't scam people for it or force anyone to help pay for it.

Nice to see someone confront these scammers
I was there two weeks ago.. these people were approaching me every damn time and I had to say NO 100 times for them to leave me alone.
You should've given them a NYC "Hellllllll nawww".
Do I look poor or homeless? I've never been approached by these people. I've gone up to them because I heard them speak Spanish and wanted to know where they were from. Has NYC seen an influx of people from Puebla in the past 5 years?

I went to Times Square last year and it was frustrating. I was excited to see those street performers but i didn't know they expected money after getting a picture with them.
Another awful situation I was in was this guy trying to give me a CD. I told him politely that i wasn't interested but he got mad at me and essentially forced me to take the CD and he practically stole $10 from me.
I really wish i knew how awful Times Square was before going, but i wasn't prepared.

The other day I asked an ai to list the top 100 art deco bars in NYC and it filled the list. What you find really depends whether you look beyond the most known tourist traps. Dont let those cockroaches at TIimes Square be more than what they are.
@aakhbaf4921 you'll love NYC bro. Just avoid Times Square. Only go there to buy the discounted theatre tickets. Then get out.
Hello from Belgium 🇧🇪
Thank you for opening our eyes for all this bad people is out there ...
Big thank you
Unbelievable the amount of scammers at square times
Dang. I haven’t been to Manhattan since 2000. Things have really changed in a quarter of a century. I don’t remember seeing scammers everywhere like this. There were always guys running shell games and selling pirated CDs/DVDs/clothing/bags, but I never saw people just demanding money for photos or anything like that.
Disney could easily post lawyers around Times Square and round up people to sue for copyright infringement by the dozen. That would shut those scammers down faster than a heavy police presence, I’d imagine.
Great video / love you standing up to scammers Karl!
Thanks for useful and informative video as always
"you want money for blessings?, Ha Ha Ha!"
Me: "Isn't that what churches do too!"
It’s a New York thing but it’s also a California thing and a Chicago things. I haven’t ran into any super aggressive guys, usually you fan give their energy right back and be chill but I’m glad you’re informing people
Karl! I totally agree about Five Guys. Weird that guy was trying to 'stop the violence' then offered you drugs while you were recording him on the way...
Now people know where to head to the plug. Excellent marketing skills:)
Great video, as always! I found speaking Polish to those street scammers scares them away. My language is scary i guess 😮
Lol I spoke German to them and the Minnie one walked away😂
😂
That's exactly how blessing work historically speaking.
"let us know if you need some weed or cocaine or anything man" ....bold and probably a setup lol. That was wild

Mickey Mouse Scammer In NYC, Are You Talking About Eric Adams The Mayor OF NYC.😂😂😂
And every other dumb liberal out here
Karl! You're so funny "that'll be $20". I appreciate you, you're a legend, Sir.
$20 is $20.
I remember when I got a picture with them in New York they didn’t say you had to pay and then after that six of them hurdles around me to pay them. So now, when I go to New York with my family, I tell them to just walk away from them.
