Pakistani Police Bust Me... Eating Fish! (A Warning for Tourists)

  • Can't a man just vlog and eat fish in peace in Pakistan? While eating in the Sikh holy city of Nankana Sahib, an unidentified security service agent finds me in a restaurant and reports me to the local Police station. Then a Punjab police officer sits next to me and forces me to ride back to my hotel with him.
According to that Punjab police officer, the protection of foreign tourists is their responsibility. However, I don't think there's any rule like that in Nankana Sahib. The only places that require you to travel with a security guard in Pakistan are, as far as I know, southern Punjab (below Multan) and Balochistan.
If you're going to Nankana Sahib, read my travel guide blog.karlrock.com/nankana-sah....

Not an insult, the same thing happened to me working a night shift for 2yrs but man you've aged a LOT in just 6-12 months. well, any flap, especially an attacked foreign visitor, presumably makes the local police look bad, their area unsafe, etc. seems to me they were just worried about their job performance and couldnt care less what he's there to do. rushed him to finish eating before he's even had a bite, when he emphatically stressed to them he did not desire any security. probably his whole trip was just hanging around this place and that, this is a major upset... it is them valuing their own job performance over someone else's freedom, even over their own area's tourism value, as this kind of thing obviously is unwelcomed and can ruin a trip

@wonderdog707 I don't know whether to call you my brother or my enemy. People will try their best to lie their way to prove Islam is at its worst, there are people who do not have the sufficient knowledge to the scriptures, and then there are different groups of Muslims. The Islamic scripture absolutely DOES NOT teach such blasphemy. Especially with non-muslims, there is no reason to hate them unless they were to perform an act on you. Generalizing non-muslims to be the root of all evil is a terrible thing to do. We have "Muslims" on our side who perform horrible acts on their own Brothers and Sisters. Islam is a religion of choice. When you wrote in the "Verse of Quran" you did not write the surah non-muslims have absolutely no idea about, you only wrote the numbers which made me ever more suspicious of your acts. If you are my brother, please answer me with respect let us not maintain any form of toxic relationship.

It’s like when the locals try to protect visitors, the visitors don’t want their ‘protection’, but when they get into trouble they would be the first to blame the locals and the authorities for not protecting them.

Its common in Pakistan Karl. My wife is a Chinese and she used to have Police security going whereever she went no matter what. Its seriously irritating and part of the reason why we had to leave my homeland.
But on the other side if any crime was to happen to a foriegner in France or Spain or any touristy country, no body would care. Tourist women get kidnapped and sold as sex slaves in certain parts of Europe and South America.
But if something was to happen to any foriegner in Pakistan, the whole world loses its Goddamned mind. Pakistan becomes the worst place for anyone to visit over night. Travel warnings appear, and the entire industry faces a 10 year set back.

😂😂Dude you actually still have that mentality? It's 2022! People should be more aware by now.
      1) what makes you think that you'll be targeted in Pakistan just for being a tourist? 😂
      2) terrorists will have a field day with you?? Dude do you think Pakistan's streets got terrorists walking around like it's CSGO or something 😂?? Man if anything there are terrorists in America that tourists should be concerned about.
Literally just this week 10 people were killed!!! Yet I'll be visiting the States next month Inshallah, such handful of terrorist attacks don't necessarily make huge countries of hundreds of millions unsafe to travel just because of some bad apples.
I'd suggest you take off the spectacles that make you afraid of other countries and peoples. If possible please do visit Pakistan and shatter the stereotypes anecdotally, if not then watch the dozens of videos of tourists in Pakistan to make up your mind.

Karl. I'm someone that's grown up in the West but I was born in Bangladesh. This might seem intrusive and scary but generally the cops want to keep foreigners safe. This man did you a favour. He was looking out for you. His idea of giving you a drive was his way to go to an extra length to be hospitable. What he didn't understand is that someone from the west values their freedom over being looked after. I would've been irritated as well if this dude was harassing me even though he was coming from a good place. It's a hard thing to adjust to. But sometimes these small towns harbour dangerous criminals. That's why he laughed at your naivety. Still, I understand where you are coming from. The title in the video is misleading. He didn't bust you. He was trying to be a gentleman but someone from there will never understand why you wanted to be left alone. The privilege we often take for granted in the west for security is not evident in a rural town in the sub continent.

The hotel guys were bound to provide you the security during your walk but perhaps you denied them or probably they made a mistake. The Police guy did a wonderful job. Sometimes even if a Pakistan national visits some other city, he may face a scam, fraud or theft and you are still a foreigner. Salutes to the Police guy who fulfilled his duty in a best manner.
