I visited Egypt in 2021 and by the end of my two weeks there, I almost didn't want to leave my hotel room. Don't get me wrong, there are many amazing sites to see, and many friendly people as well, but the street hustlers are overwhelming and make for a truly exhausting experience.

@The_18th_Fret Easier said than done, unfortunately. I have traveled to 40 countries across almost every continent. So, I am quite experienced when it comes to navigating these kind of interactions. Egypt was a different level!
Thanks for sharing your experience-I totally get where you’re coming from. The historical sites and friendly locals are incredible, but the street hustle can definitely be overwhelming. It’s all part of the unique charm and chaos that is Egypt
@@Sassannid the hustlers can be very persistent and borderline aggressive. Like I had a man following me trying to give me a gift. As I kept declining, he grabbed my hand and shoved the gift in it. He then demanded money and yelled at me when I put the gift on to the ground. I recommend looking for a local guide to accompany you.
I lived in Cairo in 1981-1983 for 2 years working on a large construction project for Laing. I traveled a lot within Egypt back then and there were no scams whatsoever. The city was cleaner too. Egyptians have become poorer today because of an explosive growth in population and a struggling economy that has not caught up. A scam culture has emerged because of this I think. Egyptians were very honest and down to earth back then and I remember many instances where strangers would pay for my food. The govt needs to do something about the scammers.
Thank you for sharing your experience-it’s fascinating to hear how much things have changed over the years. It’s unfortunate how economic struggles have led to a rise in scams, but your memories of the kindness and honesty of Egyptians are a beautiful reminder of the country’s true spirit. Hopefully, efforts will be made to improve the situation for both locals and visitors.
9:40 you gave $40 worth of Egyptian currency instead of $2 in front of his colleagues, you taught nothing to these greedy street workers. I hope they learn something from this act later in their lives.
I thought it was madness giving them loads of money. They should have been grateful getting 40 dollars, instead they were moaning. If he wanted to be generous, could have given them 10 dollars for the worker who cleaned his shoes that would have been enough.
It's not surprising at all. It has nothing to do with greed, it has to all do with poverty. Shoe shinning is the lowest rung on the social ladder, and now suddenly a windfall happens. It's like winning the lottery on a shared ticket, one got $100k, the other $10 million. The former would be very upset at not having received a larger share, despite now being $100,000 richer. And at anyrate, it is another one who was sitting by them who told him to calm down and stop it.
Must admit, I’ll never return to Egypt. The scammers make it horrible which is a great shame because it’s a country with an enviable history and culture.
Same here, I always dreamt of visiting Egypt and had a chance to accompany a flight attendant friend to Cairo. The sights were breathtaking, but the scammers ruined the experience. Won't be returning.
I went to Egypt for 10 days, and they were the worst days of my life. For 7 days, I was sick due to spoiled food, and for 3 days, I suffered from scams, harassment, and the nuisance of begging from both the people and the government. In short, if you want to punish yourself, go to Egypt.

Too aggressive selling for my liking. In Egypt they trap you in their shop and will do everything in their power to sell you stuff. He should have said "no thank you" and walked out but he fell for it. This selling tactics has been going on for over 30 years in Egypt.

Never heard that Egypt was a country notorious for scamming. Visited for 12 days in 2023 on a tour and LOVED IT. Definitely going back. I would suggest that visitors go with a reputable tour guide company instead of traveling solo. I experienced zero problems with scammers. Didn't even know this was an issue in Egypt.
The people that get scammed only themselves to blame. I'm only back solo travelling whole country..just don't talk with them and walk on it's really that simple...I never got scammed..
Sadly scamming is a centuries old tradition in Egypt that has been passed from generation to the next to the point it can never be changed! Asking Egyptians to put an end to these scams is like asking a person to change their genes! People need to get over it that Egypt is never going to change and these scammers will never be disciplined by the authorities, it’s in their blood!
And scamming is even the lesser of Egypts many problems. And the authorities are the biggest scammers, while the government is literally destroying the country. Bulldozing everything

"I have choosen this scenario because police brutality in Egypt is worse than your worst imagination about how corrupt and brutal they really are, so much that an officer can shoot you in public where too many witnesses are but his department will make up a story to legalize the act whether it's shooting or aggression, and no one will dare to witness and say the truth because they don't just go after the witness, but their entire maternal and paternal family. it's crazy to say that and so sad but it's the truth, and I am not trying to ruin the country's image, I am actually telling the world the truth about a lace where the oldest wonder of the world is hoping that an honest official could see this and do something about it "but it's so sad because I wrote it and i also know that it'll never happen"

@@woodykusaki9970 The Egyptian elites were not native to the African continent at all. The entirety of north-Africa was colonized by various people at various times, and there are almost no black africans at all in Tunisia, Egypt etc. I know because I've been there. Blacks are treated worse than their camels if they try to enter these countries. Right now, it's colonized by arabic peoples who flooded the world from Sassanid persia. They have conquered much of the ancient world because Islam is such a powerful force, but it wasn't always like that. For centuries, parts of north-Africa was colonized by a germanic people, for instance. It was colonized by Romans for centuries. Even further back, blondes and redheads were not uncommon in ancient egypt. Tombs of the pharao's show that they have light traits and look basically like modern Spaniards. Greeks were known for their blonde hair at one point. Achilles had light, golden hair. Same with Apollo. Greek and Roman leaders commonly had red and blonde hair. Roman historians wrote that they admired the beautiful blonde haired Greek women. Dacia, modern Romania, was also noted as as entirely blonde population by the romans. All these ancient civilizations were conquered through decadence and immigration. The entire ancient world was dominated by people with light eyes and light hair, R1b haplotype, and this is proven by archeological findings and tombs. China banned further studies into this after it was found that many of their ancient tombs didn't have Chinese people in them. Ancient persia was populated by people with light hair and light eyes. Modern Europeans stem from a people who originated in Eurasia, then populated the middle-east, Persia etc. What happened was that they became decadent, imported slaves, then the slaves became the majority. Modern day Egyptians are a completely different population from ancient Egyptians.
@@Sinekyre14 Interesting.. I thought Europeans only came flocking to Egypt after Alexander the Great then later, the Romans. The pyramid building was way before that. Khufu as far as I know is from the Old Egyptian Kingdom dating some 2,500 BC. So that's around 2 millennium before Alexander the Great's conquest. The Arabian peninsula to its east and the black Africans from Nubia to its south is way closer to Egypt than Celtic Europeans. It's a bit difficult to imagine the pyramid builders looks closer to Europeans than the Arabs/Nubians. Perhaps after it got conquered by the Greeks, it's believable but before that, I find it hard to imagine.

As an Egyptian, living in Egypt I can give some perspective. The economic status of Egypt is very difficult and it’s crushing the vast majority of Egyptians, and most of the people you met have families at home and they are trying to put food on the table. Now this does not mean that scammers have the right to scam (even that it seems to work for them) but at the same time you will find people who are trying to earn a living with dignity trying to be very persuasive and to having a no as an answer, just tried to give some context to you and your viewers and you will always be welcomed in Egypt.

Even our Arab brothers say no too. Please, listen to the advice.
I went to Egypt last month. We stayed in Hurghada, flew to Cairo to see the pyramids, sphinx, Cairo museum and a boat trip on the Nile, then Luxor to the valley of the kings etc. Personally I found it worse at Luxor. Don't let this put you off though. It was one of the best holidays I've ever had and you just need to say no to everything and don't go into their trap shops. They'll try to befriend you in 5 seconds, so be warned 😂 Remember, nothing is really free, including them offering to take pictures for you or show you something.

In Egypt, as in many places, there are those who resort to scams out of desperation, often driven by the need to provide for their families. However, the true beauty of Egypt lies in its people, their warmth, kindness, and resilience. While we should work to stop scams, it's equally important to create spaces for understanding and support. A helping hand is always more powerful than deceit, and perhaps with compassion, those in need may choose honesty over desperation. ❤ 🇪🇬

You are spot on.
@@spidyman8853he wanted the content. Worth it for him to get a reaction instead of being a normal tourist.

The people that built the pyramids were a completely different group of people. Pale, european in appearance. They viewed the people who conquered them later as beasts. It's like visiting the shire after it was conquered by Saruman. Why would you do it?
Pale, European in appearance? I would think they'd be a bit tanner due to Sudan/Nubia being directly below it.

Naaa never heard such bolloxs in my life.
They were dark skinned. Get real sunshine
I would rather see the pyramids via google images rather then going thru the hassles and scams of Cairo
As an Egyptian i feel bad for you & for what happened ....i saw videos of him on tiktok when he arrived egypt ..and offered him help to know more about city and many Good egyptians in comments tried to warn him and guide him also ...
السيسي خربها والشعب ليهه دور في دا
2000 egp for a shoe cleaning is insane, you couldve just gave him a 150 max
That was shocking.
Some of them are destroying tourism in Egypt and making me think a lot before visiting it sadly ..
Harry, please don't use anything that involves animals there. They treat them really bad. I've saw footage of what they do to the poor horses and camels and it's heart breaking. Even there @32:35 the horse in the background is limping! By using those animals you are contributing to the abuse. Please don't encourage it.
Harry Brother, I watch your every videos regularly. It brings me entertainment because you doesn't show only popular & famous places of any country like the other vlogger youtubers, but you show every part of local & more local market & low middle class area of every country. You are local for vocal. Stay blessed 😊

I envy your patients, im honestly a very kind person but i have zero tolerance for what you endured. I could never visit any of those places, id either be in jail or beaten to death by a group of locals. I saw a video that had scammers grabbing people's arm holding them hostage trying to get money.
I would love to see the pyramids, can’t deal with the scammers tho…
Go with a local
The scammers are also locals 🤣
The pyramids are absolutely breathtaking and worth seeing at least once in your life! The scammers can be a challenge, but with a bit of preparation and firm boundaries, it’s manageable.
Don't see why you can't go.
I went, stood my ground, got approached so many times, and just said NO, and eventually they got fed up with me and left me alone.
I have been there and the tour group was even able to go inside King Tut’s tomb. It was awesome.
I live in Qatar and have to work with egyptians.. everyday is a struggle
Correct i left my 2 jobs because of this nationality...😂😂 Hod forgive them..

My long-held dream of visiting Egypt was completely shattered after watching this video. I’m so frustrated and heartbroken to see such things happening there.
Harry best youtuber 😊😊
Hi Harry. I am in Egypt now. I was very happy to come back to Egypt because I am learning Arabic and I love this place, but the people here have completely discouraged me from this place. I'm flying out in 24 hours and instead of sightseeing, I'm sitting in a hotel room with no window.
Don't go to Egypt without a guide. I am Egyptian and has been to the Egyptian museum in Tahrir Sq. yesterday. Every time I approach a tourist to tell them about a statue that doesn't have an info card and they are standing in front of it for a while, half of them doubtly say "please tell us" (I think they thought it is a sticky scam) and the other half is say an absolute feelingless "NO". Even our Arab brothers say no too.
Please, listen to the advice.
That opening was a hard watch. I understand how that nonsense can ruin someones trip abroad
thanks so much for watching!
Harry, as a traveller you are ‘Worldly Wise ‘ and handle situations very well……Great vid 👍
He's a helmet
Yeah I'm impressed how strong Harry's personality is against those forceful scammers. I would have folded.
@@woodykusaki9970 maybe you didn't work hard for your money then? because i know i won't
@@zombieat I don't know how you can make that conclusion. I have a job but my personality is not accustomed to insanely aggressive scammers.
The best trip of yours and a good experience for us...
I would HATE all the hassle from the locals.
Not all Egypt like that go with a local
I went to Egypt last month. We stayed in Hurghada, flew to Cairo to see the pyramids, sphinx, Cairo museum and a boat trip on the Nile, then Luxor to the valley of the kings etc. Personally I found it worse at Luxor. Don't let this put you off though. It was one of the best holidays I've ever had and you just need to say no to everything and don't go into their trap shops. They'll try to befriend you in 5 seconds, so be warned 😂 Remember, nothing is really free, including them offering to take pictures for you or show you something.
Visited this place before and quickly found out Cairo's ‘hospitality’ comes with a side of ‘you’ll pay what your heart feels’-even if my heart disagreed. Some nice folk but a shame there are too many 'see you next tuesdays'
haha very well said mate
Thank you for your video. It is conducive to improving my English listening.
You are absolutely right and also tourists should not buy anything expensive because by doing so they encourage people to continue scamming. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes indeed. But the Egyptian people should also address this issue. One of fake kindness for money from tourists - this is not islam
I was invited by my tour director to her house in Cairo. I was grateful.
37:44 how they returned on the road to search for the phone in the desert and then gave it back was beautiful
And then harry jaggard returns their actions with slander. What an ingrate.
keep ur pyramids egypt, i dont think anyone would go

Even India is a great country.. You are a hungry Arab
They both similar full of greedy hustlers, but Egypt is lot cleaner then indya
@@nomorenewsWhat you say is completely incorrect. In Egypt, the scammers' solution is simple, which is to stay away from them. There are dozens of upscale neighborhoods and cities. Why do you deliberately go to areas where there are scammers and street vendors? They do not represent Egyptians at all.

Just after I visited the pyramids, we went straight to Sharam-el-Sheikh and just enjoyed our hotels private beach and pool
