My dad had a 1987 with a 5 speed. The 5 speed was an option on late 1987 mode year.

It was the 81 to 86 bullnose trucks. That had 4 speeds the 87. To late 90s wear all 5 speeds.

I don't think it was necessary to use so much either and I really don't understand why you're holding the throttle to the floor.
It's a great engine don't try to tear it up for no reason.

On initial start up, WOT increases injection timing, which helps when cold starting or when it's sat for a long time. This is in the owner's manual. As far as redlining it after it's started, as long as it has oil pressure, that won't hurt the motor. IH built these things tough.

Wot does not set the high idle / timing. It’s half a pedal maybe

Makes about as much sense as sticking your head into the wheel well and then trying to lock the hubs while the front driveshaft is actually spinning.

These guys are from the Peggin' Leggin' Special School of IDI Cold Starts. Which, to be fair, has proven to be effective as those engines are way tougher than people give credit. You don't need to baby them. You can hammer them with ether/brakleen until they start to hydrolock and it will still fire off and do wheelies.

From the oil fill looks like a 7.3idi but it could have been swap over on to a 6.9 I don't remember if that part is interchangeable

I thought they were going to pick it up, not blow it up.

You can't start this truck from a button in the engine bay.
