    Heck yeah man! I'll have to watch some more videos. That's one heck of a road trip. I had a 1993 Ford F250 7.3 IDI in college with an added banks turbo on it. I could never really get it running great which was unfortunate. Awesome to see and hear this one rip!

    Confused why that other guy was test driving it in the beginning 🤔
    Truck wise, don't modify the engine, and use ONLY Motorcraft glow plugs. Transmission wise, use some Centerforce heavy-duty replacement clutches. Change all the fluids, axles and transfer case too. Get that truck Line-X coated in the bed and undercoated too. Also, have a new e-brake cable system installed, as they tend to seize up if rusty.

    i bought mine in February. these trucks are amazing and reliable. oh man the condition the thing was in when i got it, no other motor would be driving under the conditions mine was under. original radiator barely doing its job, fuel filter clogged with shit, injector pump was leaking, 3 glow plugs were popped like a balloon, and the clutch cylinder was only held one by one bolt. somehow, i drove it about 3000 miles or so before i took care of them....... i'll upload a vid of mine

    This exact year of truck is probably the best IDI to look for.
    5-speed manual is optional (overdrive), but you still get the 6.9 diesel, which is less prone to cylinder cavitation, even with very high miles. You also get the updated glow plugs and engine wiring harness for better cold weather starting. 86 and older usually have a manual switch installed at some point because the factory controller fails so often.
    Congrats on your purchase!

    The 1983-84 diesel models used the Delco-Remy 27MT direct-drive starter motor, also the same kind Chevrolet and GMC used in their 6.2L diesel pickups from 1982-88.
    I've read the 27MT was overkill for these, but I also read the Mitsubishi 17037 gear-reduction starter motor used on the 1985-87 Fords with the 6.9L are also no good... • @tuckercole1531
      @tuckercole1531 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Proud American don’t go much over 10 psi of boost without studs and you’ll be fine a 7.3 I wouldn’t go over 15 psi. They will still last for ever even with a turbo kit. The 93-94 only got bigger wrist pins and different rings. With a 6.9 they only need to be decompressed if you go over 20 psi a 7.3 can go to 60 psi both with studs.

    • @tuckercole1531
      @tuckercole1531 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Proud American for a 6.9 heads studs is definitely safer but not 100% necessary. The 6.9 has 7/16 inch head bolts and the 7.3 has 1/2 inch that’s why you generally see more turbo 7.3s.

    • @tuckercole1531
      @tuckercole1531 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Proud American you could have a bit of air in the system so you could try to bleeding the slave cylinder. There is also a bushing in the rod that goes to the master if that’s worn out I’ll not work or work just a bit but it sounds like you have some air in your system. That was a problem on my 91 with a zf5 the gasket on the line to the slave cylinder was also bad so it would hold pressure for a bit but if you waited more then 10 seconds to put it in gear it would grind so just something’s to look our for. When i changed mine I gravity bled mine you can do it in the truck pretty easily but I took the master out to filled it up with fluid opened the bleeder on the slave and then let it fill once fluid started coming out I would close the bleeder and push the rod up and down on the slave cylinder then opened the bleeder again and let the fluid drip out again. Do this 4-5 times to make sure all the air is out. To bleed your truck you should just have to have someone push and hold the pedal for a couple seconds with the bleeder open and if you do that a couple times all the air should come out. It’s a two person job and it’s just like bleeding brakes. This is if you can even get to the bleeder I’m not sure like I said my truck has a zf5 so I’m not sure about your truck but the the bleeding process is the same. Also another tip if you gravity bled the system and you can’t push the slave cylinder back in because trust me is very hard use a nut drive to push it in and then slide the slave in. It’s the best way I found. Hope this helped you. Also if you do turbo your truck and you want to do head studs I’ve heard you have to take the motor out or take the fenders off because there’s not enough room to get the heads on.

    • @tuckercole1531
      @tuckercole1531 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Proud American yeah the return springs can do that my truck has a bad return spring that I got to change the pedal will not come fully up too if the spring is bad. And the pre bled master cylinders won’t fit. I couldn’t get a pre bled set up for my 91 because the masters are different. My truck the nuts that held the master on were accessed from inside the truck and I would bet yours is the same. The pre bled kits are for 92-97 trucks because the nuts are access from outside the truck. If your not replacing the slave cylinder bleeding it is very easy it’s when you change it that it can be a bear because it has to fill with fluid which I why I gravity bled mine.

    A new IP costs most of what you paid for the truck, and the only engine options are rebuilt cores(if even) and scrap-yard pull(these aren't sleeved and have famously thin cylinder walls). Never pay more than $6,000 for clean seventh or eighth gen; $6,000 for a super-clean 4x4 Lariat DRW or SRW fully loaded... Anyone who REALLY knows these pays $2,500-$4,500 for a CLEAN truck...

    2,300rpm at 55 in 5th is 4.11s
    Would be near 1,700 with 3.55s
    Unless you're in 4th in the video.
    .
    If it still has the original owners manual. there's a chart that lists numbers that are on the driver's door frame for axial gearing and if equipped with a limited slip diff.
    Like 65 for 4.11 69 for 3.55 or for a limited slip D4
    there's many codes, depending on spring configuration and axil type.

      @@hondayamahafan its a gen 7
      f series 87/91 with a 6.9 and 4sp??
      thats a unique combo.
      .
      The 4sp has an advantage on the boat ramp. as 1st is way deeper.
      A 2wd 5sp would have a far taller 1st and reverse.
      And would need a transfer case to slow it down. Not adding 4wd just the ability to use a 2wd with low.
      Probably More $$$$ then the truck cost yea.
      .
      Other then that reduced tire pressure on the rear will help on the ramp. 30 psi, wouldn't want to drive an hour on a 80+F day with the pressure that low.
      versus 65psi or up to 80 with the original tire size.

      If your engine is worn it will drink it, I’ve had my idi for a year now, & the previous owner always used Rotella T4, the truck is no blowby for now, & hope it stays that way.
      Did an oil change on her when I got her home, they said they just changed the oil which they probably did cuz it was clean still & just did it just cuz it was $50 to change & to reset the clock.
      After 5K I just changed the oil & well it had a head gasket issue, so it was leaking a little, after I changed it it seems to be running nicely.
      So far so good.
      I use 2.5-3gal of Rotella T4 & I ad an extra qt so if it leaks it’s good.
      I always check the oil once or twice a month or every week, & always keeping an eye on it.
      I use filter fl1995 Genuine Motorcraft filter, plugs & genuine Motorcraft parts anytime I can. From a good source/autozone or a well known eBay seller.
