One of the biggest reasons I'm getting a Steam Deck is for older games. I want to play some newer games too, but the Steam Deck has nearly every game I've ever played on it! Most of the games I want are from the 2000-2010s and it means they should play great! While I'm excited to play AAA games on the go I'm equally as excited to see how good my childhood games play.
Some of the first games I’m putting on it are Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 1, 2, 3, New Vegas, and 4. However, mainly Xbox 360 games like Bioshock 1, Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, F.E.A.R 1, Mass Effect 1, etc. Something about turning it into my portable Xbox 360 really tickles my interest.
Steam Deck will be my go place for indies. I already have a nice computer setup for AAA games, and it seems almost a shame to play them on a Steam Deck rather than my main PC. Indie games can run at full speed, and many are perfect to pick up and play in short bursts. It's also more energy efficient to play them this way since it doesn't require as much overhead.
Steam is where indies start so Steam Deck is the best platform for Indies and Third-Party Games. Plus the Emulation potential of it really just makes it a Jack-of-all-trades.
a newly announced console from ayn could be a better alternative for indies and emulation. The ayn loki comes with a zen3+ cpu and rdna 2 gpu 500$ for the base model much smaller than a steam deck, the loki mini comes for 299$ and could be switch lite size. Those would be a better portable because you don't need all that power the steam deck offers and could be a pocketable device like the switch-lite
@@Brebgon Yea but ayn did make the odin which is a pretty neat handheld featured on many channels. It does provide a cheaper alternative (loki mini) or an equivalent/stronger handheld (regular loki or loki max) for many people. Options are great, let's not dismiss them

My steam deck has been a ton of fun. Cloud saves are also a big deal. I didn’t wanna buy the switch version of Tetris effect, since I had it on PC. I get to take that same I game I bought with the same save data on the go
The Steam Deck makes Indie titles really feeling great. But I also use it relatively often in the Office to game, if I'm there for long. I'm working with a laptop and a USB-C dock with 2 Monitors, Mouse and Keyboard. Simply switching my laptop with the deck and I really have a pretty good way to game after work in the office.

honestly when i first saw the steam deck this is how i planed on using it basically 5-10% new hotness 10-20% AAA I missed the first time around and 70-80% indies from my backlog
I feel the same way. I do like being able to play those AAA titles around the house, but indie games are perfect for this form factor and just sip battery as well. It's also an emulation beast, so I've been revisiting a lot of the PS2 games I played growing up too!
It can be perfect at more than one thing. I love playing indies here, but I also love playing huge AAA titles on the go and Steam Deck is also perfect for that.
For someone who has 3 places I often go to and stay at (My partner, my mother and my brother) The Steam Deck has been amazing for literally everything. I generally do the grindy parts in AAA games like Cyberpunk & FFVII:Remake while saving up the main missions for my computer with all the bells and whistles for an audiovisual treat. A game I probably wouldn't play on the PC was "The Ascent", but it makes perfect sense on the Steam Deck. But except that I also engage A LOT more in indie titles, emulators, retro games. I feel like I have reconnected with the funfactor of games because my adult life require the flexibility of a handheld device. I don't often have dedicated time to engage in old games or grindy stuff. but doing that in small pauses in life has been great!
I been waiting for someone on TH-cam to make a video like this about the steam deck This is legit the only reason I even pre ordered a deck because of all the indie games I want to play that are not a available on switch This machine can run those games with ease!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the Steam Deck is perfect, for me. I haven't played many games in the last few years between family, school, work, etc, but the biggest issue I have seen and felt is not wanting to sit at my gaming PC to play a game, when that gaming PC is where I work from home. So I spend 8+ hours a day in my chair at that computer doing normal work, and I don't really want to keep sitting there in the evening after my kids are down. I would rather relax on the couch with my wife and watch some TV and play a game in a handheld. I have never bought a switch because there aren't enough games that draw my focus. I won't rebuy games that I already have to play on a portable, and I don't see enough value in the first party exclusives, and I am not a Nintendo fanboy, to really invest in that system. But the Steam Deck is the kind of device that I will use a lot, because of the library of games I have on PC. So I have plenty to play and revisit, and I will use it as I would like. I can definitely see myself replaying Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Solasta: Crown of the Magister, Horizon Chase Turbo, and a ton of other games that I love on the couch at the end of the day. I can see it, because that has been my gaming experience going back to the PSone with the attached screen in the very early 2000's. I played Fallout 3 on my PS3 hooked up to a portable DVD player screen meant for the car so I or others could watch TV together and I could play a game. To this day, I still set up my Fire 8HD plus with my Steam Controller and Remote Play my Steam games from my PC so I can play on the couch. It's not the best experience since I have to try to balance the tablet on my knees/lap, but it works. So when I can hold my Steam Deck and have the controls of the Steam Controller and the graphical fidelity of my PC, without the almost imperceptible amount of latency, that will be a good day. I am the Steam Deck's target audience, and I am very excited for when my email comes.
My Steam deck is due this quarter, and I can’t wait. Similar to you, it’s going to give me that time to just drop in, and play fun stuff. I love my Switches though, I say Switches as while I have, and enjoy, my OLED, but I’m mainly playing emulators on my original switch. It’s still so much fun playing older games, like going back to Game Boy for instance. I’m hoping with the Steam deck, I’ll be using it for either older games, or games set in that older style, and probably Emu Deck as well, to play many of my older games.
Same bought one because emulation and it feels like it is a better switch although i am still going to play my switch i just love the vareity on this thing very excited for this
I’m a ps5 and Xbox series x owner. As a father with small children the steam deck is the best system to play almost any game. When you don’t have enough time or simply can’t find a way to take care of your kids and play because it’s simply imposible this is your console. I have been able to play games for a lot more time since I’ve got the steam deck. This was really a game changer for me as a lifelong gamer.
I agree with your view of the topic of the steam deck, but I find that even though there's things that run the games better, there's not much that can run games as good in the price range of the steam deck.
"WULFF DEN" seems to have a very similar stance to you about the value proposition of playing indie games portably on the Steam Deck. Great to see a consensus on that!
In my case I want a steam deck because now days a pre-built gaming pc cost way more and to build one is just hard to understand (and still expensive 😅)
I think building a PC is definitely enjoyable and worthwhile experience, but yeah unfortunately it's more expensive to build a PC that's as powerful as the Steam Deck. It still is possible by keeping an eye out for people giving away or selling parts cheaper on things like Facebook Marketplace. Although finding a lot of good local deals is kinda dependent on where you live.
I think I’m in the same mindset as yourself, even if Steam Deck isn’t coming to my country anytime soon. There’s a few PC games that I love to play but I need to get into the mindset to boot up the machine and go, such as Valheim. This leads to my not playing as much, but if I could just grab the Deck and start almost immediately, I’d find myself playing it far more than I do now. Probably more than if I had a laptop as well.
Indies are a HUGE reason I got the Steam Deck!! They take absolute ages to get to consoles and honestly, I just don't want to wait and hope it comes someday. Add in my penchant for gaming on the go and couch gaming with my other handhelds and it was a no brainer for me personally!
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Steam Deck right on release. I've used it a fair bit. Anything platform/indie is a given, but I've found myself playing a lot of Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0 because both games works wonderfully on the deck, very smooth 60fps. The long throw of the analog triggers are excellent for driving, it gives a lot more control than an xbox one-controller, a feature I haven't really seen praised a lot. However, it also makes wave dashing in NASB a lot more cumbersome. The only truly negative experience I've had was the fan noise, but that got fixed in software (it used to spin fast even at idle, like it had no curve at all only 80% or 100% speed). But yeah, the Steam deck is amazing and it gets better with every software update as well. Considering the price, the value of this device is insanely good and I hope it gets in the hands of more people as fast as possible.
To be fair....I ordered the steam deck to do a bit of both. With being busy with work and my new little one...I don't get enough time to sit down in front of the TV or pc and get some proper game time. So really looking forward to the steam deck to get back into gaming 😎
Another thing about the deck that sounds awesome, the ability to have a ready to go party machine with one cable. Imagine having every jackbox, every mario party, every smash ready on a switchish sized device that needs only one cable to dock
This is exactly what I have realized as of late. The more gameplay videos I see of triple A titles looking and running quite on the average side, the more I plan on using it for emulation and indie titles. (Whenever I get my delivery email, that is)
This video touches on why I really want a steam deck. (arrives tmrw!) I love the Indi games and tend to play them much more than aaa. I also work on the road away from home a lot so it gives me something less gigantic to play on instead of lugging around a laptop
Much more excited to play indies once I get my steam deck. Usually for big triple aaa games I’ll hook my desktop to my 4K tv for the best possible image quality. I know the switch allows you to switch from tv to handheld Seamlessly but it’s still switch quality. Which looks horrible blown up on a big tv. Having the ability to go from portable 720p to playing a game at 4k on a desktop and continue exactly where I left off. Gonna be so cool 😎
Although I find myself still playing my triple A games I have def been exploring more indie games as of late as they have been alot of fun with them Core keep is a game I never would of touched if it wasn't for the steam deck and I'm glad I gave it a go. I find myself playing for hours.
this is the reason why i'm so excited to get mine. i want to get to those indie titles in my back log since i don't have much time to play on my pc anymore. and when i do have time, i end up playing overwatch or other big titles. currently, i've been finishing all the retro classics on a pixel/razer kishi combo, and while it has been working out well, i know the steamdeck will be a perfect replacement for it. i also bought a switch lite 2 days ago, and while i do like it, the prices of the games are a bit steep, as well i don't want to rebuy my whole steam catalog.
Just downloaded Crystal project last week. Great game and definitely going to be one of the first games I'll be playing when I finally get my steam deck. Ha, and you talked about my favorite game. P4G still needs to come to the switch so I can buy it for a third time.
For me a switch or steamdeck is so I can play games wherever I go, not being forced to be in a specific location (the desk in your room at home or whatever). no one sits next to their pc, to play the same game mobile. They play on public transit, roadtrips, cousins house, etc... the steamdeck just does what the switch does, but a bigger library and access to AAA stuff. But it will also come with a share of negatives
Do you think for you the ayn loki would be a much better handheld in that regard. Much smaller than the steam deck, the loki mini could be switch lite size. Because your gravitating towards those more indie titles and it could be the perfect handheld for that. The price is also very attractive for the performance that it could have considering it comes with zen 3+ and rdna 2
Ayn Loki will fail horribly. Chinese manufacturers should stick with emulation devices as these mini pc's they are doing now are too expensive for anyone to risk. People want trusted brands not some unknown chinese bullcrap.
@@BroskiPlays That's fine if that's your opinion, personally for me brands don't matter as much. I don't root for xbox/playstation, I don't care about amd/nvidia/intel. To me the device speaks for itself, if multiple reviewers use and say it's a good handheld then I will take that into consideration. Any quality issues will show up in a review so I will now then. P.S I also don't care about valve, or supporting valve or cheering for valve. They're just a company, don't form parasocial connections between companies. It's just a piece of plastic there's no need to simp for it.
@JO BE It sounds really good but I just heard now of the AYA Neo Air Plus comes with the mendocino apu zen 2 cpu + RDNA 2 gpu for 289$ (199$ if you're an AYA supporter IDK what that means). These companies keep on upping each other
Definitely an indie and emulator system, aaa titles you go to the cinema (desktop powerhouse) indies you watch lounging in bed or on the sofa (portable convenience), best analogy
Night night I've already sold my switch lite and I have this but the only problem is I still have 200 rise the physical edition Ellis like I could even play that game because it had my system had a little bit of drift so was kind of annoying me to play and I don't want to get on PC just because you're no but I wouldn't mind emulating it but only problem is I don't have my switch lite anymore so I won't even be able to do the whole thing with the usual emulators so no that's a problem
@@danielwilliams3161 try getting one on the cheap and back up your physical games and put them on a SD card TH-cam has plenty of resources on how to do it. Happy gaming
Thanks for the recommendation! I put Crystal Project in my wishlist 😋 I'm still waiting for my Steam Deck 😄 I bought it exclusively for emulation, (Game preservation is very important, and the Steam Deck is the perfect tool to play them ♥) but I will also play a few Steam games 😊
Funny enough what you use the steam deck for is mainly what I use the switch for-indie games (and Nintendo exclusives). I got the Series X to play more AAA and games like Elden Ring so I can see the full scope of the game/world. I am looking forward to getting my hands on the steam deck for more PC gaming since I definitely don’t wanna sink money into building one rn.
Most switch indie games are old PC indie games. It's thousands of indie games on PC. I think that why he said it. Most people steam backlogs have tons of indie that people just don't have time to play them.
I kind of want one to try PC games or games that aren't on the Switch. I don't have a gaming PC or another console, so that would be a good way to try new games. Plus, I love playing in handheld mode, it's been 2 years since I've bought the Switch and I've docked it maybe 4 or 5 times. I just love to play comfy in my bed before going to sleep :)
On my steam deck I have pretty much every console I want emulated, and a ridiculous amount of roms. Also have Xbox cloud gaming working flawlessly, as well as the ability to dock it and play with a wireless xbox controller. This thing is a do-it-all Oneder , and I've never been more excited for gaming.
For me the experience is different. I have a more powerful pc, but i keep playing all my games on the deck. I like the whole experience of playing on deck, especially when laying in bed when you are tired instead is sitting in my chair for more of the day
Me too bro. My gaming PC been gathering dust last 45 days. Especially once I started docking it to the TV and use xbox controller from the couch. It's the coolest gadget I've ever had and pretty much what I've been dreaming about for 30 years. It sleeps in my bed every night
Yeah i love this handheld console def the best console ever made to me but I was kinda worried since I’m making a new pc at the end of the year and I was worried because I’m not sure what I would do with the steam deck but this helped a lot indie games and older games. Sometimes I just wanna stick with handheld
the biggest reason that Ill never buy a switch, is not because its weak, its because I cannot reuse my already existing PC library, nor sync saves between my PC and my switch, Id have to buy games specificly for the switch, and pretty much play them only on the switch. That is extremly unafordable to me, specially considering how expensive switch games are (even the indie ones). Thats where a deck would come in handy, it costs 100 dollars more, but the money Id save from not having to buy games exclusivly for it, definitly makes up for the extra price
Niiice. Like Metroidvanias? Cuz here's another GREAT PC exclusive indie: Environmental Station Alpha. Comes from a team lead by the guy who made Baba Is You.
YESSS I really want to play Inscryption and some older rpg maker games and the steam deck is the perfect solution! I’m not really a PC gamer but I love the Indie games on steam
The true power of the Steam Deck is really starting to flex it's muscle & yeah, apart from the unbelievable awesomeness of AAA titles running immaculate on the hardware, the indie scene is going to go nova on the steam deck. I've already bought a bunch of games through the steam store at ridiculously low prices (I'm looking at you Nintendo) currently piling up in my library, pending my Steam Deck arriving in the next month or so. Buying a lot of stuff I would never normally consider but with steam deck, it's just the perfect platform. This is how it should be done.
I put my 5$ down last week. Sucks cause I'm not going to be shocked if I don't have it by the end of the year. I have a laptop that's ok...I'm slowly building up my steam library...I don't have a monster PC I used Xbox series x for bigger games. I'm looking forward to the deck though
Having lots of handheld gaming gadgets, of different power and shape, it hurts to see the battery of the mighty Steam Deck degraded by games that could run flawlessly on a mobile phone (with a gamepad added if necessary) or an Anbernic handheld console.

Thank you Kevin I just added Crystal Project to my wishlist. Can't wait for my deck!
I think handhelds+Indies is the perfect mix, that's why Indies have found great success on switch and vice versa
2:34 I thought you were going to say Vampire Survivors lol. That game is getting so popular.
The Steam Deck is an emulation beast too. It can run GameCube and Wii U games. It can do so many things that are locked on Switch.
To be fair....I ordered the steam deck to do a bit of both. With being busy with work and my new little one...I don't get enough time to sit down in front of the TV or pc and get some proper game time. So really looking forward to the steam deck to get back into gaming 😎
Man I hope the final fantasy pixel remasters get announced for switch this year it’s the perfect system for it right next to the steam deck
I had no idea this game existed and I'm all ready to try it. Thanks for the heads up. It looks fantastic.
Although I find myself still playing my triple A games I have def been exploring more indie games as of late as they have been alot of fun with them
Core keep is a game I never would of touched if it wasn't for the steam deck and I'm glad I gave it a go. I find myself playing for hours.
so in the end its a matter of everyone's preferences, I agree with you.
this is the reason why i'm so excited to get mine. i want to get to those indie titles in my back log since i don't have much time to play on my pc anymore. and when i do have time, i end up playing overwatch or other big titles.
currently, i've been finishing all the retro classics on a pixel/razer kishi combo, and while it has been working out well, i know the steamdeck will be a perfect replacement for it. i also bought a switch lite 2 days ago, and while i do like it, the prices of the games are a bit steep, as well i don't want to rebuy my whole steam catalog.
now you will have persona for the switch, I'm very excited for this
i hope valve produce it massively and available on offline store, and expand into more region
They said they might announce something in 2023, I doubt their ability to make enough to push to offline store.
Now that’s a great looking wall behind you! I need one of those :)
These companies keep on upping each other
There are a lot of indie games I got as part of a humble bundle that I probably won't try until I get a Deck
Awesome tshirt.👍🏻
Love the videos bro!
Definitely an indie and emulator system, aaa titles you go to the cinema (desktop powerhouse) indies you watch lounging in bed or on the sofa (portable convenience), best analogy
I play my switch games on my steam deck what a time to be alive
I put Crystal Project in my wishlist 😋
I'm still waiting for my Steam Deck 😄 I bought it exclusively for emulation, (Game preservation is very important, and the Steam Deck is the perfect tool to play them ♥) but I will also play a few Steam games 😊
Steamdeck is encouraging the tend of pc gaming to get less obsessed with the best graphics and to just make good games.
“Exclusive games” **laughs in emulation**
🤣
Now that we have 40hz steam deck is it! Linux gaming is finally here!
40 hz looks amazing to me, those tech wizards really figured out how to make this thing efficient
This is literally what I first planned for it after seeing it
0:44 MORBED
Great video. But I have a 3080 PC and I still only play on the Steam Deck now. I choose comfort on the couch rather than a few more fps or resolution.
This guy gets it!
I preordered the Steam Deck. Still waiting for an update on shipping. It looks really good, but I'm still back and forth on actually buying it or not.
I only came here for the T-shirt? I love it. I want one.
I use my deck for the same thing. I'm maining "nobody saves the world" right now and that game is awesome on the deck
Inscryption 💪💪💪
Q3 has entered the comments.
I dont even have mine yet. But I still feel good about this video. I had to get a steam controller just to feed my need.
I can't wait to get mine
Kevin where did you cop that awesome shirt!?
this video feels like an indie games review
I like how your content has slowly shifted from switch to steam deck 😂.
I’m living for it though, I just got my deck last week.
I can't wait to get mine only got to wait 3 /4 months :(
Got mine book for October in UK
Random question, but where did you buy that awesome tshirt?
Sharing a link to where you get your t-shirts in mandatory. It says so in YT's ToS.
Can’t wait to get mine but looks like fall, or just before Christmas for me
the biggest reason that Ill never buy a switch, is not because its weak, its because I cannot reuse my already existing PC library, nor sync saves between my PC and my switch, Id have to buy games specificly for the switch, and pretty much play them only on the switch.
My first thought was I would be able to play inscryption on the go
Will there be a OLED model soon or a mod?
Can you move the script closer to the camera :(
Man the stream deck is ground breaking
What hand held gaming console is this
YESSS I really want to play Inscryption and some older rpg maker games and the steam deck is the perfect solution! I’m not really a PC gamer but I love the Indie games on steam
Lol just got to Act 2 of Inscryption! I bought it specifically the first game for my new deck and have been enjoying the crap out of it.
You NEEEED to check out Legend of Heroes series which are all on Steam and are some of the best JRPG's ever made.
Xbox cloud gaming is Amazing on the deck
I call my deck the grownups switch to my switch owning friends
Now where can I get that shirt?
My steam deck will be dedicated to old-school CRPGs, TBH
I have spent all the week play only p4 golden and vampire survivor on my deck
Currently playing
Blades of Time and it runs at 60fps. Think the steam deck should be used for older games.
Can i play all assassin's creed games and red dead redemption 2?
I'm more interested in playing my gog library on the steam deck. But I bet some of them will suck without a keyboard and mouse :(
I never realized this but you sound like my biology teacher
I don’t agree. I believe the switch is good for indie games. Steam deck can do so much more then indie games lol
I think it is for people who don't have a pc
Jus wanted to say FFIX is the best FF ever made 🔥🤘🏾🖤!!!
Zidane x Dagger(Garnet) ❤️💕
What’s the name the game he’s playing at 1:29 anyone know what he’s playing it look good and I want to try it out any help would be appreciated
doom eternal
I put my 5$ down last week. Sucks cause I'm not going to be shocked if I don't have it by the end of the year. I have a laptop that's ok...I'm slowly building up my steam library...I don't have a monster PC I used Xbox series x for bigger games. I'm looking forward to the deck though
that game that you found just looks like terarria and minecraft had a cross over and made it a rpg lol
For me I don't have a gaming PC, so the Deck will be my gaming PC.
Having lots of handheld gaming gadgets, of different power and shape, it hurts to see the battery of the mighty Steam Deck degraded by games that could run flawlessly on a mobile phone (with a gamepad added if necessary) or an Anbernic handheld console.
The steam deck is perfect for everything
