I would say it's DEFINITELY worth it! I feel like most sites are focusing on "the latest AAA games". But honestly, PC gaming is about SO much more than that, and once you ditch the idea of the latest AAA-games (that pushes graphical fidelity to the limit) and instead focus on typical PC gaming, you will be impressed! I generally get 4-9 hours of battery on the LCD model while the hardware also feels extremely powerful at the same time. It's honestly more than enough performance for anything you throw at it... It's only when you throw exclusives for this console generation where it starts t o struggle, Like UE5 games... Sure, you can play them, but preferably at low/medium settings and aggressive upscaling, while only having 1.5-2.5h battery
A console that allows you natively to use other stores, play online free, use emulators, still play games you bought 15 years ago, offers free online is just the best console ever
Just wanted to drop a comment to say I went with the cheapest refurbished option and then just popped an 128gb SD card I had in there. They are only in stock for brief windows of time so you got to keep an eye on them. I was really impressed with the unit I got and it was it had no scrathes or anything. Unboxing was like a new product.
Becuase of how Steam Deck is supported by Valve it's effectively a console that can play PC games while the Windows handhelds are just laptops with controllers attached to them instead of keyboards.
Grabbed an LCD model on electronic bay for a significant discount. It works great and was well worth the money. I have been impressed with the quality of the product and definitely recommend it. I don't think anyone on the fence would regret going for it.
I literally just traded in a Series X for $390 to Gamestop, bought Steam gift cards with credit ($200 at a time) and then bought a steam deck 2 days ago. Wasn't using xbox, and can still access game pass via cloud.
Did the same with my Switch and PS5 🤣. Miss em a little bit, but the trade off was totally worth it. One library, most games, almost anywhere. If Nintendo cared about making pc ports, it’d be perfect, but we know how that goes…

I bought my Steamdeck OLED 1TB 2 weeks ago for 2 reasons. First, the screen is phenomenal for outside play. I like to hammock and play and take it camping. The second, battery life and price to performance for Indie titles specifically, is the best. I play my Indie games on my Steamdeck and my more graphically compensating games on my pc. I’d say if you don’t have a pc and you want a handheld pc opposed to a laptop, go with the Asus ROG X when it releases later this Summer
I play on PS5 and PC mostly, but dayum, my Steam Deck is my buddy for ANY type of flights or train rides. Just love this thing so much. It'll be fun for me for years to come. Thanks for the vid, man!
The steam deck got me into PC Gaming. It's quite an amazing handheld, but there were too many games that I couldn't play due to them being unsupported. That made me switch over to the ROG Ally, which is much more powerful, but it made me miss how console-like the steam deck was. Now I'm just waiting to see how xbox's handheld turns out.
In testing it’s hardly been called much more powerful than the steamdeck, a little more powerful, but you might be exaggerating a bit. It only really reached that point with the overlock mode, which kills the battery way too fast to be practical in many situations. Edit: also, having the track pads are really nice. Some games benefit from them a ton
If Nintendo arent rushing to make a Switch 2, why would Valve try to reinvent the wheel so soon? Theres still time for tech to develop and to aid upcoming handhelds.
I'm not quite a day one adopter, mostly because I forgot about the preorder starting, so reserved my slot about a week late. I got the 256 GB, and I've been super happy with it. If you're super into having the best quality graphics or the smoothest experience with the higher graphics settings available in games, you will probably not be super happy with it, but if you're willing to compromise with the hardware, its great. My brother has one and loves his. He's also more techy than I am.
I love a ton of things about my oled but the best feature by far is how accessible it's made gaming for me. Have some nerve damage in my right hand from a stroke and through the combination of the back buttons, touchpad and steam input settings, I've been able to create a lot of control schemes that work waaaay better for me. Super nice system!!
Regarding compatibility: In my experience, SteamOS is MORE compatible with older games than Windows 11 is. This is a little bit unintuitive, because you'd expect PC games to work best on Windows... but modern Windows SUCKS. I can't even launch Fallout 3 without a community-made patch. It works immediately on my Steam Deck. That is one example of many. I'm a life-long windows user, hardcore PC nerd, and the steam deck has converted me.
This has been the best device I’ve ever purchased. Waited a year to get mine delivered for the lcd model. It got to the point where my wife wanted to play it too so we would take turns. Finally, when the OLED model came out my wife so happened to win $500 bucks from the scratch ticket from the gas station so she called me and asked if I wanted the terabyte model rather than a Christmas present that way I could just give her the LCD model and I could have the OLED. Now, we can both play project zomboid on the couch while our son has the T.V on and toys.

I would argue its better than ever now! It is arguably the best value gaming PC, expecially where pretty much every other handheld is a windows handheld that could have copilot+ and thus microsoft recall that can spy on you without consent. Plus a lot of the criticism has been fixed with a 90hz OLED screen, Z1 extreme and offers battery life and also you can buy any of the LCD models refurbished. I would argue its much better of a reason now than before.
As someone who bought the most expensive 512gb first release at $650, over $700 with tax, I can say it was worth it at that price and at how much they are now it’s a steal. Hell, you can get them in great shape used for under $250. Totally worth it as I have over 1000games in my steam account from the past 15+ years.
Before Steam Deck i had never used a pc for games, always had a console but since my life got more busy compared to when i was younger i realized i never used said console, only played my 3ds (wich was the only handheld i owned) in bed at the end of the day when i had some spare time, so i decided, based on how much reviewers praised Steam Deck for its easy handling, to sell my console and games and buy a Steam Deck and i have not regretted this decision since, for somebody who was used to console's out of the box experience the Deck wasn't too much of a leap, it felt very familiar since day one and i slowly got to understand PC complexities at my own pace, the only thing i miss are some older Xbox titles not available on Steam or through emulation, that's why if Microsoft actually decides to make an Xbox handheld i might still be interested, but otherwise, with the Steam Deck i got all i wanted.
I love the Steam Deck OLED. It's like buying a new console that comes jailbroken. I have my GOG library in with my Steam games and with Emudeck I have something like 40,000 games. I have an SSD plugged into my dock with Batocera on it. It's loaded with arcade games I don't play portably because I want the full arcade experience like Light Gun, Racing, and Fighting games. Another plus is all my controllers, arcade stick and steering wheel connect to the Steam Deck with no issue. I know you can do all this stuff on a PC but the Steam Deck offers a console experience, and it's a handheld. This device will never be outdated for me.
I just bought a 64gb because it was under 300 and an SD card is cheap. I haven't had a PC in a long time, and only been gaming on my switch when I can.
Love my OLED one and that was upgraded from the original LCD versions. If you want a good handheld with god support then I personally wouldn't by from anyone else except from Valve.
I installed Windows on an SD card and it runs pretty well, other than the audio drivers... I need headphones to hear anything since the speakers won't work. It's probably not the best, but it is serviceable for the Windows games I play. I absolutely love the Steam Deck OLED screen and the console is really comfortable, so it's a trade off I was happy to make.
Here from the future yes the LCD has one ultimate advantage over competitors....battery life! a ROG Ally or LEGO can't even run Tomb Raider 2013 for longer than an hour.
I always recommend the Steam Deck to anyone who wants to get into PC gaming, I just temper their expectations with what games it can handle. As long as it’s a game that can run on Xbox One or PS4, everything will work fine. Even some games on XSX and PS5 can run if the graphics are set to low. If people are fine with a game on Switch, they’ll be really fine with it on Deck.
For the people outside the industry that think that Valve would feel the need to rush when the competition gets better...... Very clearly have no idea how Valve works..... Just as an example, their critically acclaimed game series Half Life has the entry Half Life 2: Episode 2 which was released back in 2007 and the events and story ended on a MAJOR cliffhanger...... Episode 3 was anticipated for years... Then that turned into a decade.... Then Half Life: Alyx was released..... Not episode 3, a prequel to Half Life 2, which also acknowledges the cliffhanger ending of Episode 2 which means Valve was well aware of the existance of their own game series.... And yet it took them 13 years to make this prequel with a semi-sequel-esk moment............. Valve is never and never will be in a rush to release new hardware just to catch up with the competition.... Lord Gaben is in his own pocket dimension with Valve and they're too busy making millions every other second to be even remotely bothered by what the other guys are doing with their own hardware.....
After PSN price increase i dumped the PlayStation platform. All sony games come to PC anyway. And if its two years delay. NO PROBLEM. I have TONS of backlog. I can wait.
Although it’s true, I look forward to death standing 2 and GTA vi which are PlayStation exclusives, and I don’t want to wait another couple of years for them to come out on PC

You can do so much outside of steam and with steam, yes there are certain restrictions and oddties (mainly due to linux) but you can work around them thanks to the community. if your wondering if you should get one. my LCD model is fun all be it needs to have a battery pack if i ever go traveling or if i play a high demand game. still worth
6:30 i could not get one of these competitors, as someone who owns a wiiU, i am well aware that thumbsticks at the top are the absolute peaks of controller layouts, especially for gamepads(wide and heavy controllers with a screen in the middle, like the current handheld, wii U, and switch), it's so much more natural for 3d games, and in the case of the steamdeck since the buttons are also at the top it doesn't get in the way for other games that only need heavy use of 1 stick, where as the switch and these competitors your hands are not symmetrical when using both sticks which causes cramping in the right hand
It's still an impressive handheld. The more powerful steam deck "killers" get lost and forgotten over time. It's basically a portable PS4 but fanboys of the other systems act like it's only good for switch and mobile type games which is ridiculous.
What makes the steam deck really good in my experience is very refined and fleshed out. What's holding it back so much is the lack of compatibility with games that rely more on a Windows client than a Linux client. Which I'm hoping will be fixed.
My biggest question (bevor watching the video, maybe i get a answer): Is it easy to get the xbox pass on the steam deck? This would be a big point for buying or not.
Without installing Windows the answer is no, you can setup X cloud so you can stream games but thats only available for Gamepass ultimate. If you want Gamepass games on a handheld directly like I did, get another device, I have a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme model, I like it but Asus have been pretty bad recently with RMA issues so check what ASUS are like in your country before considering buying anything from them.
Even then is still say go with steamdeck. Installing windows edge to play gamepass isn’t all that difficult, and there are step by step guides to get it done without any issues

I would never advise anyone getting a Steam Deck (I have one and its awesome but...), until Steam sells undefective units or allows iFixit to sell button/daughter boards. The bumpers stop working right after warrantee expires and they refuse to let you fix it yourself and if you just return it to Valve it will take months and they won't even send you back your same unit...no thanks.
I got a great deal on a used steam deck lcd. If I'm mainly going to be using it with Xreal Air 2 pro glasses, does it matter if its lcd or oled? Like is the output any different?
The factor that you want a Gaming P.C on the go? I mean, just have a controller with you with your phone or let alone a Nintendo Switch just for portability alone.
If Nintendo switch can stay with the same hardware for 7 years, Steam Deck is in no means of ever being pressure to release a new Steam Deck any time soon. If Steam Deck were to add the z1 Extreme, they are the favorites to win even if ASUS came out with a z2 extreme. Steam Deck OS is very stable and does not require much power vs Windows 11 OS which constant have issues due to updates or random BSOD.
God I want to get a different more powerful handheld just to get performance that’ll look closer to my pc at home. But as a diehard steam controller user I can’t give up mature well integrated: gyro, trackpads, and complex customisation
What a lot of reviewers leave out about windows vs Linux (SteamOS) is windows is demanding. Linux/SteamOS is a substantially lighter OS using less ram and not tracking everything single thing your doing. Also windows is doing so many things in the background.
Got a refurbished 64gb slapped in a 1tb drive all these other handhelds just can't hold a candle to ease of use and battery life! I can lock Fallout 4 to 40fps at 7 watts and get 4 hours of battery. Other Windows Handhelds can't even get past 2 hours

the reason i think the steam deck is the best is the support it gets and will keep getting

Just got my deck. Completely happy with my purchase. It's been great.
The console like nature of the SteamDeck is what makes it special
A console that allows you natively to use other stores, play online free, use emulators, still play games you bought 15 years ago, offers free online is just the best console ever

I believe that there is also a refurbished program that valve is doing on thier steam decks and the prices are super low. Like 280$
Yes but they are currently not in stock
Just wanted to drop a comment to say I went with the cheapest refurbished option and then just popped an 128gb SD card I had in there. They are only in stock for brief windows of time so you got to keep an eye on them. I was really impressed with the unit I got and it was it had no scrathes or anything. Unboxing was like a new product.
Got mine from gamestop for 280 & everything works great
Becuase of how Steam Deck is supported by Valve it's effectively a console that can play PC games while the Windows handhelds are just laptops with controllers attached to them instead of keyboards.
That’s why I bought a steam deck, the other ones have massive tech problems and horrible customer service.
thanks kevin i am contemplating buying my first steam deck and this video popped up in my feed! perfect timing!
Grabbed an LCD model on electronic bay for a significant discount. It works great and was well worth the money. I have been impressed with the quality of the product and definitely recommend it. I don't think anyone on the fence would regret going for it.

@@cyberyaya8483I’m assuming battery life and windows. Both dog💩 but the new ally x seemed like a good option as well. I like all the handhelds but I currently own an Oled deck and it’s amazing ngl. Is it as powerful as the others? No, but it’s a great system for most games.
@@cyberyaya8483 Lemme give you just one reason (while can think of at least 25). My SD got damaged due to my own fault. Valve repaired it at their repair center. Of course I had no warranty and had to pay 200€ for it. (big repair 200, small 136). Which I gladly did.

Nah you don't need the anti glare
Wow just my luck a video came out right before I bought one! Thank so much!
I’d say if you don’t have a pc and you want a handheld pc opposed to a laptop, go with the Asus ROG X when it releases later this Summer
just waiting for a possible sale in June for the 512gb OLED , come on brother Gabe
I play on PS5 and PC mostly, but dayum, my Steam Deck is my buddy for ANY type of flights or train rides. Just love this thing so much. It'll be fun for me for years to come. Thanks for the vid, man!
Without watching the video... Yes it is always a good time. Can't beat the price to performance and the community and official Valve support
Which games are you talking about? Just multiplayer games that have anti cheat? Or are you talking about something else?
In testing it’s hardly been called much more powerful than the steamdeck, a little more powerful, but you might be exaggerating a bit. It only really reached that point with the overlock mode, which kills the battery way too fast to be practical in many situations.
Edit: also, having the track pads are really nice. Some games benefit from them a ton
I recommend Dual booting with bazziteOS. It will make the Ally feel more deck like
So is the best time to buy a steam deck. I love playing with my big black deck. I love turning it on and stroking the controls.
sd is my primary console. love this thing to bits.
itd be great if the steamdeck shipped globally too
If Nintendo arent rushing to make a Switch 2, why would Valve try to reinvent the wheel so soon? Theres still time for tech to develop and to aid upcoming handhelds.
64gb on sale now for under $300. Just swap out 1tb ssd($50-eBay) very easy to do and well worth it.
Pretty much what I did. Also the 512 LCD same price as the 256 LCD. Pretty good deal regardless if you ask me
I'm not quite a day one adopter, mostly because I forgot about the preorder starting, so reserved my slot about a week late.
I second that, since getting mine I barely touch my PS5 and Switch. I'm just upset I didn't get one earlier
@@punch6482 My PC had just been collecting dust. I don’t care too much for multiplayer games anymore but to play a bunch of indies, emulators and ps4/xbox one era games is nothing short of amazing. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours too man!

Steam has the LCDs on sale on their website until the 25th. So tempted to grab the 512 GB for $336.75.
I went back and forth all day after wanting one for a while. I ended up buying the 512. Its a great deal right now.
The idea to buy a steam deck right now is great. I’ve got mine two month ago and I’m happy with it
I just bought a 64gb because it was under 300 and an SD card is cheap. I haven't had a PC in a long time, and only been gaming on my switch when I can.
Its definetly too late to buy a Switch now, but Steam Deck OLED should still be good for another 2- 3 years.
Love my OLED one and that was upgraded from the original LCD versions. If you want a good handheld with god support then I personally wouldn't by from anyone else except from Valve.
Dude I've been contemplating this for months, thanks for your input!
Did you pull the trigger yet? I've been mulling it over too. I want to sell my PS5 and Switch for this. Worth it?
Tbh selling the switch isnt a bad idea for this. The switch 2 should be coming late next year already@WaldoBagelTopper
Ah yes the steam deck I have one and it's absolutely mind blowing how you can carry your steam games on the go 😁
Here from the future yes the LCD has one ultimate advantage over competitors....battery life!
a ROG Ally or LEGO can't even run Tomb Raider 2013 for longer than an hour.
This Steam Deck generation is great for Retro gaming and Emulating.

Honestly a steam deck is the best option out there, whatever version you want.
I'm debating between the ROG Ally X or Steamdeck OLED.
The steamdeck oled is the better buy using Linux runs better over windows since it's not equipped for mobile plus it has issues weaker battery and currently asus may be under investigation for warranty issues so I'd say get the 1tb oled steamdeck

Ally X would be my choice unless you really want the Deck for specific things like using Steam only
@@animefrasier Battery should be better as it's 80whr vs 50whr. Deck LCD and OG Ally have very similar run times with the Deck being more efficient at 12w and under as they have the same size battery

In my region, the steam deck oled costs 300$ more than its original price. So, lcd is the only option
What game are you playing @ 1:49? Almost looks like Quake and Minecraft had a baby lol
It's still an impressive handheld. The more powerful steam deck "killers" get lost and forgotten over time. It's basically a portable PS4 but fanboys of the other systems act like it's only good for switch and mobile type games which is ridiculous.
Yeah I can’t with Better Help.

It takes 5 minutes to set it up through using edge browser and adding it to steam library. Only xcloud

It’s not, bought in February and enjoy it every day.
I just ordered the 1 TB OLED, but I plan to play the Sims 2 and a very highly modded Sims 4 on my steam deck.
The better viewing angle helps a lot when you're using the gyro aiming. I use gyro/touchpad a lot when I'm FPS gaming.
I have a nintendo switch always wanted to play pc games because i only have a ps5, and i always wanted to play cod zombies on the go so…
