# STAAD shorts-Generate structural model from DXF file || SET Z UP, PERFORM ROTATION || CAD to STAAD

Several times, complete or partial structural model is generated in a CAD or external software. We can reuse that model geometry for structural analysis and design by importing that file as a .dxf file in STAAD. But we need to adjust the axis orientation to align the structure correctly in STAAD.
in this video, I will discuss about few method of changing the axis orientation of STAAD and how to import any model from a DXF file generated in other software, whether that follows Y up or Z up configuration. These method includes SET Z UP, PERFORM ROTATION and rotate option. There are few problems with Z UP command, what are those and how to rectify the problems, that will be discussed in detail.

Staad is unable to add an opening enclosed by beams in parametric plate generation. Please sugest how to add an opening enclosed by beams?

Sir if i generate a staad file from tekla structure design,there is also this problem.and also there is already defined theload cases and their combination .So not only the member direction but also the axis if load cases to be change for the running. How it is possible

Tekla has a two way data interchange with STAAD using ISM. You can install ISM-Tekla plugin, generate an ISM file from Tekla and import that directly in STAAD. It will convert the axis orientation and along with geometry, property and specification will also be imported.

Tekla has a direct integration with Bentley products including STAAD using ISM. You need to generate an ISM file from STAAD, install ISM-Tekla plugin and import that ism file in Tekla.
